Author's Note: Heyy guys! I'm back! But sadly not for long. I just wanted you guys to know that, no, I did not give up on the story. Yeah, this school work is keeping me busy, so I' m sorry I can't update as much as I would like, but here I made this for you guys:
Disclaimer: I don't own Naruto.
Hinata
"What are you doing here?" I rubbed my eyes as I held the door open. "What? Can't a guy miss you?" He smirked in the doorway with flowers in his hands. I had fallen asleep late last night in the midst of all my research, so yeah maybe I was a little rude due to the fact I barely slept.
What does Sakura have to do with Father?
Oh, yeah. That's the burning question on my mind. Did Naruto know?
But I couldn't lie to myself, I did sort of miss him. He let himself in, and set the flowers on the table. Roses. Honestly, how cheesy, and cliche. I shut the door behind me, and walked over to the cabinet to grab a vase for the flowers.
"Look about that fight we had, I'm sorry, Hinata. I really am." I looked at him suddenly as the memory rushed back to me. With everything that had happened yesterday I completely forgot about the fight. I sighed when I set the roses in the vase filled halfway with water. I left it next to the sink as I walked over to where he sat at the table. I leaned in close, very boldly, to be honest, and kissed him. "It's fine, I'm sorry, too." I whispered against his lips. I caught a slight smirk before he pulled me into kiss him again. What are you doing, Hinata? How could you do this? He could be working with Sakura. He could be pretending to love you, all for Sakura.
I pulled away suddenly, but gave him a small smile so he wouldn't be suspicious. "Do you have anywhere to be?" He asked. Of course I did. I had to go get more information on connections with Sakura and Father, and visit Mom and Neji. But I sure as hell wasn't gonna let him know that. "Just gotta give my report to Lady Tsunade, and maybe some checkups." I didn't act like it was some secret that I was sick. I saw Naruto flinch a little as he was reminded of it.
I walked over to the fridge to look for something to eat for breakfast. He followed me, and leaned against the refridgerator door. "You didn't go too far did you?"
"If I said 'no' would that make you feel better?" I asked as I got food.
"Hinata." I looked him in the eye when he said my name. I stood my ground, but I couldn't help but blush a little. He looked like he genuinely cared. He's so dense, he probably doesn't even know what Sakura's up to. "No." I answered honestly. I couldn't help it anymore. Don't tell me you still love him.
He gave a small sigh of relief, and the smile reappeared on his face. "Go out with me."
I nearly laughed.
"What do you call all of this then?" I asked.
"Well it was never official, and I just wanted to hear you say 'yes'."
"You're such an idiot."
"Is that a 'yes'?" His smile was even wider. "Uh, no, I don't think it was." I answered with a smile, and undoubtedly, a blush. He retaliated by kissing me, even rougher than last time. But I also responded, even rougher than last time. I wrapped my legs around his waist as he held me up. He backed me into the wall before he started trailing down my neck, attacking it with kisses. "Say it." He growled against my neck.
"It." I answered with a smirk on my face. I started giggling. Me. Even I had forgotten the sound. He smiled against my neck, "Something funny?"
"Just your desperate attempts." I retaliated, but that doesn't mean I could hold back the blush rushing to my cheeks.
I wanted this.
I wanted you.
And nothing has changed.
"Yes." I seemed to blurt out. I heard him chuckle before he stood up straight. "So it's official." He said.
"Hey, that means almost nothing."
"It means I get to kiss you whenever I feel like it." He smirked, "Like now." And he did.
I blushed, but I managed to retort, "Like you didn't do that anyway."
Happy memories. Just like Mom wanted.
Naruto
I didn't expect her to say it, but she said it. "Yes." That's what she said to me. It was almost better than hearing 'I love you.' But she hasn't said that to me in years. To me, this is one step closer to hearing her say it again. Because even now as I lay next to her in her bed, and her by my side. With clothes littering the floor from the passion that occurred just minutes ago. I want to say it to her. 'I love you.' It's on the tip of my tongue, but the fear makes me swallow the words. So I lay here watching the back of her head with my arm around her, silent for the longest time.
"Oh, shit! Is that the time?" I jumped when the sudden silence was broken, and watched her trying to get her clothes back on. I sat up, "What's wrong?"
"I have a check up today, and I gotta run a bunch of errands. I'm not going to be home all day, so don't wait for me." She rushed, and I continued to watch as she quickly tied her hair in a ponytail.
"Uh, yeah. I'll probably just take a shower, and be on my way." I told her. She nodded, and started getting her things together. Probably the mission report. I got out of the bed with nothing but my boxers. I saw my pants on the ground, and quickly moved to put them on. "Bye," she quickly said before turning to leave. "Hey! Don't forget.." I quickly grabbed her arm, and she turned to look at me. I smirked before giving her another kiss.
"Idiot." I heard her mutter, but that didn't hide the blush on her cheeks.
After my shower, I decided I would hang around for a while, and probably see Sakura when she got off work. Which was in about an hour, and she was probably worried why I hadn't been home yet. I tried to occupy myself, and that's how I ended up looking through Hinata's stuff. And, no, I'm not being a perv (though I did stumble upon her underwear drawer). I found some old children books, and I figured that this was from the times Hinata spent reading to the younger kids at the Academy. I opened a couple, and saw the name Harue Hyuga. Isn't that Hinata's late mom? I began opening all the books to find they all belonged to her. When I got to the last book, The Tale of Despereaux, a message was written inside:
To my sweet Hinata:
I know you love these books, so I've decided to give them to you. This one is personally a favorite of mine. It showed me small people can achieve great things. I have faith you will, too.
Take good care of them for me, okay?
With love,
Mom
I read it over again a couple of times. It did sound a little corny, but she was young when she got this. It probably still meant a lot to her now. I closed the book, and put the rest back where they belong. I decided it was probably time for me to leave. Hopefully Hinata would let me spend the night. I don't want to leave her alone anymore. She's been that way long enough.
"Naruto! OH MY GOD! The rumors were true all along!" Ino had ran up to me, and started busting my eardrums. The fight I had with her and her teammates had eventually died away. And everything was good between us, cause, you know….friendship.
"What is it, Ino?" I asked but I didn't care. Ino backed down, and I watched her eyes widened, "You don't know?"
"Know what?" I asked again. She avoided my eye contact for a brief second. "Sakura…"
"Sakura what? Is she okay?" I quickly went into defense mode. Was she in trouble?
"No, no. She's not in trouble. It's just that..she's getting..married." I was shocked when I heard the words come out of Ino's mouth.
"Married? Is it Sasuke? I knew he loved her I just never imagined he had the actual guts to ask for marriage before a date. The nerv—"
"It's not Sasuke! It's..um..Hiashi..Hiashi Hyuga." Hiashi Hyuga? The person Sakura had allegedly cheated on me with? Hiashi Hyuga? Hinata's dad?
"You're kidding me right?" I choked out. Did I feel..betrayed?
"It's all here." Ino handed me the tabloid. The front cover, a picture of Sakura in a wedding dress. The top story across the cover, 'The Lovely Sakura Haruno is Engaged...to an Older Man?" It did sound like the perfect scandal to run. But Sakura and I weren't together anymore, and it shouldn't matter. But it did, because this involved Hinata.
"Sakura, what is this?" She was at my house, wearing my clothes, as if she still needed to be here. I threw the tabloid on the coffee table, and she looked up at me. "I'm getting married?"
"I got that part. But to him!?"
"I was going to tell you. Besides you're not my boyfriend anymore you can't tell me what to do." She retaliated calmly. She continued to read the book in her hands, and ignore me.
"Is that what you think I'm doing? That's Hinata's father!"
She looked up from her book. "I don't ever remember you caring about her before!" Her eyes were getting watery, but I didn't care.
"So it's true? The entire time our relationship was a lie? Everything the tabloids used to say, everything I ignored because I trusted you, there all true?!" I was practically yelling at her. I wanted to throw something.
"Is that what you think? I love you, Naruto! I still love you, even as you pretend to love Hinata! You still love me I know you do!"
Pretend.
Pretend…
to be happy?
Sakura kept talking, "I know you love me." Her voice was softer. "You've loved me all your life. I'm willing to be yours. Just stop lying to Hinata; stop leading her on. This wedding...it's not something I can stop. I have to go through with this wedding, Naruto. But, if you stay by my side, I'm willing to take care of Hinata. As her new mother, I will take care of her, Naruto. All you have to do is be by my side."
Hinata
My hands were shaking. I could feel it. This only happened when I was about to faint, or about to scream. Honestly, I couldn't figure out which it was. I tried to get them to stop, but my eyes were glued to the words that started it. 'The Lovely Sakura Haruno is Engaged...to an Older Man?' That was the stupid title they went with. Hiashi Hyuga. The was the name of the man.
"Y-You're kidding me right?" I managed out, but it sounded a little shaky. I looked up at Hanabi, who found me at the hospital, and invited me out to coffee. Told me she needed to tell me something. "I'm sorry, Hinata, it isn't." she said with confidence, but I'm sure this was tearing away at her too.
"How long has this been going on?" I almost yelled at her, but I managed to keep it together. She looked away for a brief second. "About six months before the war." This is it. This is how she killed his targets. He wanted her.
"Rumor has it she's pregnant, and that's why things are being rushed." She continued, "If she gives him a son, he'll be heir to the company, to this household."
"You think I don't know that? I made sure Father would make you heir, because that's what you wanted. I gave up everything, and I'm not about to let it go to waste. I won't go through with this."
"Hinata, thank you." Hanabi said out of the blue. "I know you were disowned because of me. I know Mom died because of me. I know a lot of things happened to you because of me. You made so many sacrifices for me, and I haven't been able to repay you. Thank you so much."
"Hanabi...this isn't your fault. I didn't know Father would try to marry me away, or disown me when I gave up. You told me you wanted to be heir. I've seen you. You are more than capable of running the Hyuga clan by yourself. Don't put yourself down. Mom wouldn't like that."
I left twenty minutes after that, and headed home. A little earlier than I expected because Hanabi tied it all together for me. I hadn't talked to her in years, and I just wish the first words I heard weren't about that. Hanabi deserves to be heir. I gave it up, but that didn't mean I wanted to leave. I wanted Father to be like an actual father, and understand.
I got home, but Naruto was no where to be found. Not that I was expecting him, or anything. I sighed to no one in particular, and decided I would make myself some tea. My thoughts were running mad with everything that was going on. Why Sakura? Why is it always Sakura? How many things must you take away from me?
I gave a last, quick glance at the tea before I opened my cabinet, and pulled out a bottle of vodka. What better way to clear my mind? I acknowledged the shot glasses next to it, but ignored them. I'm going to need a lot.
Naruto
"Hinata! Hinata!" I showed up to Hinata's apartment once again. After Sakura's offer, I left. You could almost see her haunting smirk, because she knew I was considering her offer. I need to protect Hinata. If I stay by Hinata's side, will Sakura try to hurt her? Is my only choice, to stay by Sakura's side? Will Hinata hate me, again?
"NNaa—rruutooo." Hinata had finally answered the door, after five minutes of me knocking. Her cheeks were red, and she slurred. Was she drunk?
"Hinata, are you drunk?" I asked her. She leaned against the door a little, and batted her eyelashes, "Noo, can't I just be happy to see you?" She giggled.
I walked in, and saw a near empty bottle of vodka on the table. "What's this?" I asked her, even when I knew the answer. She giggled as she walked towards me, and hugged me from behind, "Have a drink with me, yeah?" I was slightly surprised when she hugged me, and my cheeks felt hot. I managed to turn around and face her. Her cheeks were puffy, like she was crying not to long ago. "Are you okay, Hinata?"
She pouted, and looked up at me, "Don't ask me questions like that Naruto, I don't remember what it's like to be okay anymore."
"Then what do you remember? Why are you drinking?"
"IItt'ss celeebratory! Make way for the happy couple! The woman you love, and the father who abandoned me! What's not to celebrate? NNaarruttoo, just have one little drink! Please? Drink with me! It's a happy occasion!"
But even her drunkenness couldn't hide the tears starting to stream down her face again. She already knows. I felt her let go of me, and reach for the bottle. I tried to grab it from her, but she pivoted, and pressed the bottle to her lips before leaning her head back. "Hey! Hinata, stop!" I reached over to grab it from her, but she moved again. Muttering that it was 'a special occasion'.
I managed to hold on to her wrist, but she tried to pull away. "It's a celebration, Naruto! Stop!"
"Stop drinking, Hinata!" I pulled at her wrist, but she continued to try and pull away. She finally got out of my grip before throwing the glass bottle at the wall, shattering it, and started screaming. She held her hands up to her head as she screamed. I panicked before pulling her into a hug, she tried to push me away at first, but I only hugged her tighter. When she finally managed to stop screaming I sat there, and watched her slowly slip into an unconscious state. I sighed a long sigh of relief.
When I finally decided to get up I held Hinata, and placed her in her bed. I left the room to go clean up the broken glass. Afterwards, I kissed Hinata's forehead that was cold with sweat, and slipped into bed with her. The decision was clear, and I knew what I had to do.
Author's Note: And there you go! I hope it wasn't too disappointing. But hopefully I can update soon, and as always thanks for reading!
Like it? Hate it? Let me know!
Thank you, again!
