By the Beat of a Heart
Tiger
By the beat of a heart
She comes running
By the beat of a heart
He comes listening
For the beat of her heart
Dove
She also listens
For his footsteps
That make marks in the mud
It is easy for her to see
It is easy for her to hear
The beat of his dark heart
She walks with him
On the border that marks the ancient feuds
That forbid them from seeing each other
She doesn't understand
The beating of his heart is for blood
Tiger
He smiles
She smiles back
By the beating of their hearts
Falling rhythmically
Between them
She thinks this all a lie
But he says it's not
He says their love goes deeper and deeper
By every beat of a heart
Every beat draws them closer
Every cat pulls them back
Him and her
Shadow and thunder
His heart thumps with every beat
Out of his chest it seems to go
Can she hear it?
He thinks she can
For his love goes far
Dove
She says it can't be
She says I am the dove
And you are the tiger
How can we love?
Tiger
He says it's possible
You are my dove
We can love
My beautiful dove
Neutral
They walk
Not seeming to notice the glares at each other
She can only think about him
He can only think about her
Together their tails intertwine
By the beating of their hearts
