Oh geez, this is what sleep deprivation does to me. -_-
"And here we are. I know it's nothing special but please make yourself at home." Haruhi said as she guided Faith through the door. Kyoya had explained everything to Haruhi, or at least most of it. You never did know with Kyoya. They all had urged Haruhi to take Faith in for the first couple of nights, or weeks depending on how things went. As Kyoya put it, it was "Important for Faith to talk with another girl so she can express her emotion." Everyone agreed and Faith was sent over with Haruhi, not that she minded. She had actually wanted to get Faith alone so that she could ask her about everything.
"Our house is pretty small so we will have to share my room. I hope you don't mind." Haruhi said gently. Faith continued to stare at her feet, completely unresponsive. Haruhi let out a sigh and looked up at the ceiling. It was actually painful to look at Faith. She didn't look devastated, sad, or even angry. She just looked lost. Haruhi painted on a smile the best she could and walked up to Faith.
"Follow me to my room and I will help you unpack." Haruhi said with a false tone of cheer. She wanted to say something meaningful but she couldn't think of anything. There was nothing to say at a time like this. What the heck did Tamaki and the others think she could do? Haruhi shook her head. It didn't matter if she couldn't do anything, she would at least try. Haruhi got to her door before realizing that Faith wasn't behind her. She walked back only to find Faith standing in the exact same spot, in the exact same position.
"Faith." She whispered. Seeing Faith standing there looking so distraught honestly broke her heart. Suddenly, she felt a slight surge of anger towards Mercy. Did she even know what she was doing to her? Haruhi jerked from a sudden brush on her arm. Faith had walked right past her and was slowly making her way to Haruhi's room. Haruhi followed quietly only to watch Faith throw her belongings onto the floor and collapse against the wall. She fell against the same spot that she had been in a long time ago.
"S-since I only have one bed, I was thinking that we could share it." Haruhi offered gently. Faith's shoulders just seemed to slump lower and her head fell against her knees.
"O-or you can use it! I can just sleep on the floor! My back has been hurting anyway so the floor might be a better idea for me. Really." Haruhi added nervously. She knew that the bed wasn't the problem but she didn't know what else to say. Faith slowly lifted her head but kept her gaze down in front of her. It was becoming apparent that Faith had no intention of replying, or moving for that matter.
"Faith?" Haruhi asked attentively, taking a few timid steps towards her. Faith was becoming noticeably more uncomfortable as Haruhi drew nearer.
"I'm fine." Faith sputtered out after a moments delay. Speaking pained her but she somehow managed to force out the words. "I am tired. I wanna rest." They were nothing more than sentence fragments but they were better than nothing. Haruhi, feeling slightly relieved, hesitantly stepped out of the room. She closed the door behind her, leaving it open just a crack, and sighed. She absolutely hated feeling so useless. Before she even had time to sulk, her dad jumped out from behind her and grabbed her by the shoulders.
"Ahhh! What do you think you're doing?! Why were you hiding under the table?!" Haruhi jumped, struggling to keep her voice down as she remembered that Faith was trying to rest.
"I-is she here?" Ranka stuttered nervously as he coward behind his daughter.
"Who? Faith? Ya, she's here." Haruhi confirmed casually. By now she was accustomed to her father's unusual antics. Ranka clutched onto her tighter.
"S-she's not going to hit me with a frying pan again, is she?" He whimpered.
"No…well, probably not." Haruhi replied.
"I see." Without another word, Ranka released his grip on her and disappeared.
"That was…..odd. Even for him." Haruhi thought out loud. 30 minutes had passed and she hadn't heard anything from Faith. Last time she checked, Faith had curled up against the wall and was fast asleep. Haruhi found herself sitting at the table, staring at the clock as she wondered what to do.
'Poor Faith…no. I need to stop doing that. Feeling bad for her isn't going to solve anything. It will probably only end up making her feel worse. I need to come up with a plan or at least a solution for her living arrangements. I mean, there's no way we can just move her from house-to-house every so often. If only there was a way to-' Haruhi's train of thought was disturbed by a shadow lurking behind her. She jumped out of the chair and turned around only to come face-to-face with her father once again. She had seen him dressed in all sorts of dresses and frilly outfits but this was defiantly new. For the first time that she could remember, he was actually wearing pillows. Pillows of all colors and sizes had been duck taped onto him. Noticing her staring, Ranka spun around as if to show it off.
"Do you like it? It's practical and resourceful. I made it just in case that cute little jungle girl decides to attack."
"She's not a jungle girl. You better not wear that when she comes out…..if she ever comes out, that is." Haruhi mumbled the last part to herself.
"You bet I will. Don't worry, I'll make you one later but for now I need your help with something." Ranka said enthusiastically.
"And what would that be?" Haruhi replied slowly, desperately trying to get the image of father-daughter pillow suits out of her mind.
"This." He said, grabbing her arm and taking her over to the front door. "Tada!"
"What is this?" Haruhi asked blankly, staring at the rugged planks of wood that was piled outside the door.
"This is for the windows. We can't have her jumping out of them again, can we? Then again, if that's what makes her comfortable should we really take it away from her? She's been through so much as it is, what if taking this away pushes her over the edge? I'd better make a stronger suit of armor just to be sure. Unless of course we just let her jump out the windows. Even if it is a weird and life threatening habit. Maybe I should make her a pillow suit too, that way she'd have a better chance at surviving the fall." Ranka rambled on for a while until Haruhi had enough and cut him off.
"Don't you dare make her a pillow suit. That's just plain cruel and she's suffered enough. Even the thought of barricading the windows with wooden planks is kind of extreme, don't you thi-" She cut herself off. An image of Faith hurtling herself out the window made Haruhi reconsider. "Actually, wood is good. Wood is very good. Pillows….not so much." She agreed as she picked up a hammer and prepared in her mission to eliminate all windows. Hours passed and before Haruhi knew it, it was passed 11pm. She finished getting ready for bed and slowly crept into her room. Faith had grabbed the blanket off Haruhi's bed and used it to roll herself into a sausage onto the floor. Haruhi debated between waking her up or just leaving her there, but decided on the later. Faith was tightly wrapped up into the blanket and Haruhi didn't want to disturb her. She instead just crawled into her bed and slept through the night without a blanket.
'Maybe things will get better or maybe they will get worse. I really have no clue what will happen or how I can help. I still don't know about everything that's happened and I can't just ask her about it. Not when she's like this.' Haruhi's mind wandered before she drifted to sleep. Faith on the other hand was shivering from the cold as she walked down the long, deserted road.
'Almost there…..almost….there.' She thought to herself as she forced her legs to keep going. Her body was moving but on the inside it felt hollow. She didn't even feel guilty about wrapping the blanket around a pillow so that it looked like it was her. She didn't worry about the possibility that Haruhi might notice. She didn't think about anything and just let her body walk down the dark road alone. Faith had no idea how long it was that she had been walking until she realized where she was. It was her and Mercy's old 'home.' Home. That word felt foreign. She wandered inside of whatever remained and sat down next to the undisturbed mess. She stared at the sky for a while, wondering why she had come here. It's not like she expected Mercy to be here or anything. Faith didn't cry or make any expression at all. Instead she just took a deep breath and closed her eyes.
AUTHORS NOTE: And done. I have a feeling that I probably made a lot of mistakes but reading this on my computer make my eyes freak out. Of course, things are moving kinda slowly again but I plan to have things pick up pace soon. Thank you so much for your comments and suggestions. Please leave a review for it is the only thing that actually motavates me to write this. So thanks once again and I will see you (write you?) later.
