Chapter 5:

Mika followed Koga back to the camp, where they were both welcomed by the sight of Inuyasha wolfing down the modern food that Kagome brought back with her for everyone. He held a bag of potato chips in one hand and a bowl of Ramen Noodles in the other. Poor Shippo was trying so hard to get one single chip out of the bag before they were all gone, but with no success against Inuyasha.

"Let me have one Inuyasha! It's not fair that you get to eat all the ninja food!" Shippo cried.

"You're small so you don't need to eat as much." Inuyasha grumbled through his full mouth. "When you get bigger then you'll get more food."

"Inuyasha! Share with him. He's only a child." Kagome told Inuyasha, who stopped chewing for a second to look at her, then huffed and handed the bag to Shippo, a bit of a growl leaving his lips as he did so.

"Yay!" Shippo cheered as he plopped down and started eating the last of the chips in the bag. Mika giggled at the sight, thinking that maybe there was a soft, not-so-annoying side to Inuyasha after all.

Kagome heard the giggle and looked up to see Mika and Koga walking over to everyone. "You're back! Was everything okay?" Kagome asked, concerned since they were both gone for so long.

"Nothing that I couldn't handle.." Koga sighed with a cocky smirk.

"Whatever..." Mika huffed as she rolled her eyes.

Suddenly Inuyasha sniffed the air. "Why do I smell human blood?" He got up a walked over to Mika. "You were hurt... What happened?" He glared at Koga.

"I saved her is what happened. She's lucky I went to make sure she was okay, or else a lizard demon would have had her for dinner!" Koga yelled sounding defensive.

"Are you okay Mika?" Kagome asked, starting to grab her first aid kit. "Let me see your wound."

"I'm fine Kagome, really." Mika grumbled, not wanting to feel babied at all. She watched as Inuyasha and Koga began to scrap with each other, not understand why they always had to fight. "It's no big deal.." She sighed as she walked over and sat by Miroku, wanting to get away from the drama.

Miroku just sat silently and took in the actions around him. He was munching on a lunch box that Kagome had given him. "Want one?" He asked, offering a pickle to Mika.

"Thanks." Mika replied as she accept the pickle. "Is it always like this when these 2 are together?"

"Pretty much." Miroku replied. "Inuyasha and Koga are so much alike that neither of them will back down.. Kagome will put an end to it eventually though."

"How will she do that?" Mika asked.

"SIT!" Kagome yelled just before everyone heard a loud thud. Mika looked over to see Inuyasha laying flat on the ground yelling at Kagome.

"Serves you right Muttface!" Koga cheered as he walked across Inuyasha's back to Kagome. "Thank you Kagome.. You're so strong."

"It's whatever! No big deal!" Kagome waved her hands around nervously.

"Hmph!" Mika stood. Miroku looked up, not understanding what was going on. "I'm going to bed."

Everyone watched, wondering what was going on as Mika stomped off to the bottom of a nearby tree and laid against it.

"Whats her problem...?" Koga asked, confused by Mika's actions.

"I'm not sure.. But we should all do the same and get some rest. We have a long day of traveling tomorrow if we are going to get Mika home." Kagome said. She walked over to her pack and took out her sleeping bag. She had an extra blanket in there too. Kagome took it out figuring Mika may need it, not being appropriately dressed for her situation. "Can you give this to Mika, please Koga?" Kagome handed the blanket to Koga.

Koga looked at the blanker in his hands. "Uhh.. Sure." He grumbled as he walked over to Mika with it.

Inuyasha walked up next to Kagome as soon as Koga was away. "Is Wolfbreath staying at camp with us tonight...?" Inuyasha growled.

"If he chooses to." Kagome answered. "It's not up to me."

Inuyasha huffed as he jumped up into the tree above Kagome, figuring he better get his spot first in case Koga decided to stay. No way was he letting Kagome out of his sights with the wolf there with them.

Koga brought the blanket over to Mika, who was shivering in the chilly air as she laid against a nearby tree. She didnt need to be around everyone and feel like the odd person out. She missed home and all her friends... Missed her family. And her date! Mika finally got a date with the hottest guy in school, and she was going to miss it. Where did everyone think she was? Were they worried and searching for her? Or was her time stopped and standing still. Everything ran through Mika's mind as tears started to well up in her eyes.

Koga smelt the salt in the air from Mika's tears. He hoped that she wasn't crying. He didn't what to do if she was. They she sniffled and let out a small whimper, the start of the crying. Koga nervously jumped, not knowing what to do in this situation. "Uhh.. Mika? I brought you a blanket?" He reached to hand the blanket to her, but then she just started to cry harder, tears falling down her face.

"I'm sorry..! I don't usually cry, I promise. I am just so confused and homesick!" Mika cried.

"There there! No need to cry!" Koga waved his arms nervously. "Everything is going to be okay!" Koga had no clue what to do. He didn't know anything about this girl, she was crying in front of him, everyone was a good distance away that they probably had clue what was going on... He didn't need this right now. But what kind of man would Kagome think he was if he just left Mika here crying... Koga took a deep breath and let it out before he knelt in front of Mika. He put a hand on her shoulder. "It's okay. We'll get you home soon."

"How? How am I supposed to get home when I don't even know how I got here?" Mika cried. Koga looked at her confused for a minute, no understanding her question. But then he was suddenly surprise when she leaned into him and started crying into his shoulder. "I'm sorry... I just don't know what I'm supposed to be doing."

Koga was a bit taken aback, but unfortunately he knew there was no way he could get up and walk away no. So he did the only think he thought he could. He reached an arm around her and laid himself against the tree with her laying against him. "It's okay..." he grumbled, not understanding why it was always him with this girl and not anyone else... This was not his responsibility... His priorities lied with finding and defeating Naraku and making Kagome see that she was the woman for him. Not comforting confused girls.. He sniffed the air. She does smell good though... he thought.

Mika clung a little tighter to Koga, not understanding why he was staying here with her, but willing to take any comfort she could get right now. She missed them terribly and worried about her family. Her thoughts were interrupted when she felt a blanket thrown over her shoulders. She opened her eyes and looked up at Koga, a look in her eyes wondering what she was doing.

"You're shivering..." Koga answered curtly, a pink blush spreading across his cheeks.

"Thank you." Mika said, beginning to pull away, and wrapping herself up in the blanket. She didn't need to lay against Koga anymore.. She was a bit embarrassed that she threw herself at him like that, but she needed a connection right now. Being alone was only going to make things worse.

"Well if you're okay, I think I'm going to-" Koga stopped getting up when he felt Mika grab his hand.

"Can you just stay here...? I don't want to be alone.." Mika asked looking up at Koga. She din't know what else to do. She didn't want to go to Kagome. They were never good friends back home, what was going to change that here?

Koga rolled his eyes, not really wanting to, but deciding to be a nice guy plopped down next to Mika. He let out a long sigh. "Thank you." Mika thanked him. She didn't ned to cuddle with him or hang on him, just know that he was there; that someone was there. Maybe she would feel a little more confident in the morning...
