Ch 40: Come and Play
"You- Your eyes!" Mitch realizes, jogging down the stairs with Jerome and the others.
"I thought the GameMaster took away your powers!" Ian exclaims with confusion in his eyes. I nod. "So then how-"
"You guys didn't think I'd give up my powers for good, did you?" I ask.
"You still have your powers!?" my fathers voice screams in my head, and I wince.
"Sky? What's wrong?" Seto asks, sitting down next to me.
"I-It's nothing, it's just- well, my dad is sort of raging telepathically at me right now."
"That's not nothing!" Jason protests, hugging me tightly, and I have to wonder if he's being overly concerned just to try to take his mind off-
No. Not thinking about that.
"It doesn't matter," I say with a low tone. "What matters is that I have my powers back now."
"Are you going to-"
"Avenge Ty?" I ask, smiling in a way that makes Jason take a step back. "Yes, yes I am."
"Wait, you aren't actually going to-" Jerome starts.
"He deserves it," I growl as tears prick at my eyes. "He deserves it for hurting my Ty." They exchange glances.
In silent approval, they nod.
"Yeah," Seto agrees quietly. "Yeah, he does."
"Well, what are we waiting for?" Ian asks excitedly, grabbing my hand and pulling me to my feet.
"Nothing at all." I grin, starting toward the staircase.
"I won't let you hurt William."
"Augh!" I groan, falling to my knees and holding my head.
"Sky! Sky, what's wrong, what's going on? Are you okay?" my friends worry.
"I-I'm fine," I stammer, still clutching my head. "I- It's my father, he's – oh Notch – he's not happy about us going after the GameMaster, they – ugh – they have some kind of past together."
"How'd you get rid of Him last time, after the dinner?" Jason asks.
"I-" I begin. Then I freeze as I remember the actual reason, and tears brim in my eyes. "Ty. Ty hugged me, and- and my dad's voice went away."
Jason takes in a shuddering breath and then hugs me tightly, whispering. "I'm sorry. I miss him, too, and he's only been gone for ten minutes. But you have to be strong, okay? You have to fight your dad so we can avenge Ty."
"I don't t-think I can-"
"For him, okay? For Ty."
I nod. "For Ty."
Jason helps me to my feet, and I mentally dare my father to try that stunt one more time. He doesn't seem to be in my head anymore, though – I can't feel his presence like I usually can.
Is he... gone?
"A-Alright," I say determinedly. "Let's go."
I run ahead of them up the staircase and out of my room, willing myself not to look in the direction of the room that used to be Ty's. I will murder William. He will die today.
I take a deep breath and open the door to the Living Quarters, raising an eyebrow at the eerie silence and atmosphere. There is no wind. There are no animals or insects. The only light comes from my eyes. I take off my sunglasses so they'll shine a little brighter.
"Hmm, you know what? Maybe it would be better if we owned that guy over here, instead of in the Challenge Room. You know, just so... just so we wouldn't have to walk all the way over there," I suggest. And so we won't have to see Ty's body again. Ty's pierced, bloody, broken body.
I will murder William.
He will die today.
"But how can we get him to come out here-" Quentin begins.
"Shut up," I say bluntly, holding up a hand to stop him. "You're making your aura harder to get around."
"My aura- what?"
"Shut up," I growl, and then I decide to just ignore them all and focus on my goal.
Finding the GameMaster's aura.
If I close my eyes and think really hard, I can see them, all the auras around me, all the souls. They come in different colors, different shapes. I remember seeing one shaped like half of a broken heart once. That person's girlfriend had recently died.
I wonder if my aura looks like half a broken heart?
Focus, I'm focusing. The auras of my friends blur around me, because they're close, and, despite my orders, they are talking. Ian's aura blares the loudest and brightest right now. I think he's telling Quentin to stop talking. Hypocrite. But if I dig a little deeper, try a little harder, I should be able to reach the auras in the Challenge Room.
I can feel them getting closer – or, rather, I can feel my mind getting closer to them.
Wait.
What-
What is that?
A small squeak of pain and confusion escapes my mouth as my mind encounters a mass of auras near the Spawn Area. Either the GameMaster has a multi-colored blob of an aura, or there are a bunch of people trapped in something near the Spawn Area. Or possibly just a bunch of souls.
I squeeze my eyes shut tighter as if that will help me concentrate, and then I continue forward despite how much harder this is than I thought it would be, because, Notch, imagine how shocked he'll be!
Finally, I get past the blur of auras at the Spawn Area and push into the Challenge Room, where-
Oh my Notch.
"He's there," I breathe, opening my eyes. My breath starts to come more quickly, more quickly than it should. "H-He's there, He's in the Challenge Room, He's here!"
Seto and Jason, who were standing closest to me, move forward to steady me and look me in the eyes. They both quickly look down, squinting from the temporary blindness. Whoops, my bad. "Sky, what's wrong? Who's there?" Jason asks.
Seto closes his eyes, and I guess he's a lot better at picking out auras than I am (he can do that even without his powers, and therefore he has been practicing since before he even developed them), because he's only in his head for a half second before he's opening his eyes again and spitting out the word "Herobrine."
"Be brave," Jason says quietly.
I nod, closing my eyes again. This time I find their auras sooner, picking out my dad's in particular. "Why don't you come and play, Daddy?" I send to his mind.
The reply is almost instantaneous. "I would love to."
