Chapter 5: Disharmony

Kagome hated how unappetizing that they two males had made her late lunch turn out to be. Even with Shippo's many sarcastic and witty remarks and conversation that were directed towards Tony, the human male was not at all catching on fast. And to make him seem more dense or ignorant, Tony was perhaps one of the most arrogant and stubborn human, more so than Kagome herself, sometimes (a lot) ignoring some things. It was not often that Shippo find himself competing with a mere human male that thought he would be able to capture the hearts of his mother through his loud gestures and not so equally obvious attraction towards her, he was not at all abash of openly showing and declaring it.

However this time, it was worse with him, the male that was able to enter into Kagome's dream as though it was another normal dream, and yet able to retain his memories about it. Shippo was furiously jealous, no one else, not even him was ever able to share a dream with her. When he had told Sesshoumaru about this, the Daiyoukai merely raised a brow regarding to that new found information, but other wise did nothing else but to return his attention to the documents before his appearance. It was a clear sign of dismissal from the inu youkai, and Shippo did not bothered lingering, knowing well of how the other would react if he were to waste any more of his precious time over something as mundane as this.

During lunch, Shippo ignored the few times that Kagome had reached out for him to stop whatever he was doing, and it goaded Tony on, that Kagome herself would just let it pass. However much as Shippo understand that it was beneath him to stoop to the same level as another human younger than him by centuries, however he could not help but to tease and probe Tony in all the wrong manners, diverting Tony's attention onto himself than towards Kagome. Shippo was being fiercely possessive and his nature was showing the slight aggression from time to time if it were not for Kagome, it was only Tony who did not noticed it and had flippantly pointed an accusing fork towards Shippo as he complained to Kagome about how childish he was being.

In her view, they were both being taxingly childish and she could not eat her lunch properly. This was very much so different as compared to when Inuyasha and Shippo would get into one of their many senseless and petty arguments. However now even when Shippo has grown up, he was still not very much unlike how he used to be, only more mature, but he was still about the same at times. It brought to her a sense of nostalgia as Kagome ignored the two bantering male and tried to enjoy the remainder of her meal in calm indulgent silence while reminiscing on the past. It was as thought the whole adventure to the past was just yesterday, and how naïve she was back then as well, and untrained. However the opposite could be said about her now, and she has matured and grown into a fine young lady who forever remained looking like she is in the age of mid twenties to late twenties. It was most uncommon for a human to be able to gain immortality practically, but since the second time when the Shikon no Tama disappeared within her, it had transformed her in many ways than one and with that she too had changed and regained her full soul.

However such tale of old was something that she better keep as a memory than to tell others, they would no doubt think the she was insane or even worse. It was odd how humans could so easily dream up and thinking of many things, but if they were to be faced with what was thought to be fictional, it would be so much more different, their reaction. Take for example to attack on New York, if it were not for the Avengers that stepped in to save the world, one could imagine the worse and how far the human would fall. People such as Sesshoumaru, Shippo, her and the others that are still alive, would have no need to worry until such invasion happens to their own World, but who was to know of the World in which they occasionally live in. If it were not for the fact that she heard the other two boys calling out for her, Kagome would not have been brought out of her own reverie. They both held looks of worry, but Tony held more curiosity in his eyes as he looked at Kagome while sipping on his glass of wine, expectantly waiting for her to say something.

"I apologize," was all that she said before Kagome resumed eating the rest of her late lunch, trying to pay some attention to her two companions.

Their conversation was less than stimulating, if anything it was something that she would prefer to stay out of it, unless of course Shippo got out of hand with his off-hand remarks. Just as she was going to excuse herself to the washroom, her phone rang, it was good timing as Kagome left the two males to get over their ego competition and petty squabbles, leaving to answer her phone. And as expected, it was Sesshoumaru, no doubt having finally found the free time to call her up to check on what was the whole issue that had caused Tony Stark to make an appearance in one of their buildings. She took her time in explaining precisely what was the matter, and it seemed like Sesshoumaru accepted the explanation, but he left her with the task of settling the whole issue of Stark before hanging up. It was always like him to be so dismissive of anyone because of the time and work. To him, they are after all running a business despite the many years in which they have been doing so.

Tony Stark was going to be a problem, she sighed as Kagome pocketed her phone before entering the washroom. It would not harm to leave the two males at her table a little more whilst she took a little more time for herself. Thinking soon that she would have to settle the issue regarding to Tony, and fast, before he became a bother too much so that he will be a hassle to their companies. As Kagome washed her hands, she checked her appearance, reflected back was the day that she stopped aging. It was something that everyone would have wanted if they knew about her lack of aging in appearance, however for Kagome she did not have anyone could spend that eternity with her, perhaps except for her two youkai companions whose lifespan equalled to hers easily should they not be killed or fatally wounded to death. Just as she was exiting the washroom, Kagome accidentally bumped into Shippo, he caught her around her waist to prevent her potential fall to the ground.

"Thank you Shippo," she told him as Kagome steadied herself by using Shippo as a support.

His face softens visibly as he watched his Kagome, she has really grown to be such a fine lady and no matter with whom he slept with or dated, they would never be able to compare to Kagome. And whilst she was away, and his lack of attention to her over their late lunch, Shippo had given to Tony Stark a piece of his thoughts of the other's intention towards his mother. Shippo knows well that from the stubborn personality of Tony Stark. Shippo knows that he would not be able to scare this male off as how he did with the many other potential males that showed the slightest interest in Kagome. They were all easy, until Tony that is, now it was something else entirely. He of course find the challenge to be rather interesting, however he also hated the fact that Tony was also on another level, in the sense that, he could not control from seeing Kagome within the World of Dreams. If anything he would find ways to keep Tony busy, and continue to monopolize Kagome for himself.

Even after lunch that day, Tony continually set Shippo on edge as he found out that Kagome and Tony had been meeting without him and much to his annoyance. Work was also piling up as he too was kept busy with the many things that the company he was in-charged of needed. It was already nearing the end of the year, and the much paperwork that they have just keep piling up that Shippo was starting to feel more than just frustrated. Tony however was having a ball of a time in his own opinion, being able to stay closely to Kagome as he would more than often drag her about of Japan to join him in on meals and quite a few other things. Thanks to the likes of Tony Stark, she was backdated in her paperwork as she rushed through a few sleepless nights trying to get her work done.

He was really getting in the way, even in the way of her sleep, on one of the nights, Kagome found herself to be sleeping on Tony,having fallen asleep on the car ride. She was lucky though that she had not revealed to Tony of her staying locations or it would most definitely have been rather awkward on her part, especially if the media get wind of what is going on, or the lack of it. Tony found himself to be again enjoying her presence, and she made a really good listener, better than Bruce as he would more than often 'call' her out, asking her various questions that she would so expertly evade and avoid with vague replies in which he more than often not make anything out of. Even with the research that he had done, he realized that Kagome was being even more cautious than the last time in giving away anything, however Shippo on the other hand, had repeatedly annoyed him. Though these few days it was really peaceful and he had no need to worry that the other male disturb him on anything at all. There was something strangely odd about the other person whom he had come to see being with Kagome nearly as much as possible, something that was much more kinkier, if he has to say.

It is rare or near impossible aside from Pepper, but he had no impure designs on Kagome, instead he was thinking on something more long term. He was not sure if it was a rebound, but found himself to be thinking more and more about her instead of his former girlfriend. Kagome had tolerated him, did not care about the things he did beside or aside from meeting her and dragging her all over Tokyo, in fact she have yet to complain about anything. It would perhaps be good for him to find someone else he had thought, and not linger more on Pepper than he should have. He knows well that he will forever be unable to get Pepper back as a girlfriend. The thought itself appealed to him as Tony contemplated on the current situation.

New year was nearing and much as he hate to say it, but he was most definitely found himself to be filled with thoughts of Kagome, despite of her rather odd world when she sleep, he saw there was no harm to her. And another great thing was that she does not fawn over him or make advances at him just to have a share of fame. She is in a way his match, their lifestyle are similar if not just a few minor difference that he was sure they would be able to work out. There was also their businesses that they both each took charge of, and they are on the same wavelength as compared to most of the other female outside, and best of all, she listens to him and indulges in him over his whims. And aside from that, it is going to be the New Year soon and what better way to begin with it, but a fresh new start with another.

Thank you so much! I've somehow always this thinking that my writing are somewhat lacking in some ways. I've my own new year's resolution as well! As for my writings, I hope to at least finish up all the stories that I've started and to do it within this year. Stop eating fast food is good too, I used to eat a lot of it, but after I've watched the documentary of what goes into fast food, I stopped eating it now, except to buy drinks or ice cream from the fast food places.
