Inuyasha crossover Iron Man
Chapter 22: Silent Insecurities

Her rejection rang in his head, and it made him wonder if this was what it felt like when he rejected every single woman that had tried to take their one night stand even further into that of a relationship. Perhaps not, but maybe this was how hurt and pained Pepper had felt with him, disappointed, hollow, a little scared, but most of all hurt.

He could not understand the grounds on which she was rejecting him, and now he was scared of contacting her for the time being as he became absorbed in heavily drinking and partying away just about every night. Never once did Kagome ever called him back or worry about him (again), and it made him wonder, was he being treated the same way as he had done so with the many other women before Pepper and her.

Rrrriinnnngggggg

"Kagome?!" Tony anxiously called out into the phone the first thing he did after making a scramble to answer his phone.

"No, it's Pepper, Tony are you alright?" worried evident in her voice, so typical Pepper, but the one person he wants calling him was Kagome.

"What do you want Pepper," Tony practically scowled into the phone as he wandered about his lab tossing things out of his way as he tried to keep his mind from wandering.

"Tony is everything alright?" she asked again, suddenly worried, panicky at the tone that he was taking with her that usually meant something else.

"Get to the point Pep, I'm busy,"

"Right, about the deal with Mr. Taisho, it did not go well, we've been rejected, and there's another meeting about the Stark Expo as well as the meeting with Rodney about an idea that the army would like to discuss with you about," She listed, worry still hanging onto her tone of voice. There had been distance placed between them, and things had been awkward since the day that they broke up.

"You settle it all Pepper, and no to Rodney or the Army, let them deal with it," Tony said hanging up the phone immediately as he threw his phone onto the table.

He let out a frustrated sigh, trying to figure out what it was that they could do to make their relationship work, or marriage work out. This was something that Tony was very sure of himself, more than anything if possible. If it meant that he would have to give up everything that he has to be with her, he would gladly do so as well, and not missed what he had already missed out on with Pepper.

"JARVIS, where is she now," Tony asked warily, his sadness in his voice.

"Sir, there has been no record found, the apartment in which she was staying in has now turned over in ownership to another, is there anything else Sir?" asked the AI in its almost robotically programmed voice as Tony dropped the spanner that he was holding on in his hand, suddenly his mind blank.

"Track her down JARVIS, exhaust all means to do it," he practically shouted his demands, frantically reaching for his phone as he dialed for his pilot to ready the private jet, finally unable to bear it, being away from her and not knowing any more.

Kagome had her penthouse cleaned out and have it ready for the new tenants that she was renting it out to via her estate agent. She was set to start travelling soon, it was about time that she gets away from this place, travel anywhere just to be away from Tony. At first she had thought that it was perhaps possible the relationship between them, but then it started to scare her. His life is so much shorter in span than hers and she is almost eternal. Even more so, she was frightened of the bad that might happen to him, especially if he was dragged into a war that was never meant to be his to fight.

She knows Tony well enough that he will be the type to disagree with what she had thought and try to put her at ease, however there was so much more than that. He has enough nightmares, a little more heartache was better than her adding onto his nightmares, and hers. Kagome looked around her temporal new lodging, not liking the emptiness, but knows well that Sesshoumaru had it swept clean of possible bugs, and most of all, it was far away from where Shippo stays and his other properties. Everything was just about ready in this house, Kagome walked about the new unit for a while, looking at it's new content before she turned to leave it.

A fresh new start (again) was what she needed, but she would just have to make do with it, and keep herself occupied whilst trying to forget about Tony. She exited the building, to be picked up by Sesshoumaru's chauffer as she slide into the leather interior, her eyes closed in rest as she tried clearing the myriad of thoughts that were running through it. It was at least a good thing though somewhat disappointing that Tony did not contact her, but in a way it helps somewhat in reminding her that he is a busy man and well in demand as well.

"No! I'm not leaving this place until I see Kagome!" a frustrated male told the staff who just as frustrated as him, trying to get him to leave with strict orders from Sesshoumaru.

Kagome almost froze on the spot, not sure if she should feel glad, excited or scared of his appearance. Either way, she needed to get some work done before she started training again to regain her body strength and condition to how it originally was. Her coat were immediately taken by the staff who were not 'entertaining' Tony, "Let him stay for 10 minutes,"

"Kagome,"

"Hello Mr. Stark," she said in greeting, walking past him as she went up the stairs to the room that she was currently occupying to grab a few things.

"Kagome, I will be loyal to you, truly and solely, let's get married," he started, practically begging her to accept the proposal.

"We can't, didn't you already hear what I told you from the last time," Kagome said as she gathered her items before heading out, not wanting to be in the same room as him least her heart and body decide to betray her should he try doing something.

"I did!" he replied her loudly as he took a few step closer to her, wanting to reach out to grab hold of her and shaking her hard.

"Then you have your answer," Kagome said passing keeping a certain distance away from him so that they will not touch or be too close a proximity. And still she gave him the opening to grab a hold of her hand as he held her back from exiting the room.

"I refuse to accept it," he growled out, pulling her back against him as he slammed her room door shut with his feet.

"You have to, it's for your own good,"

"Why is it for my own good," he demanded, "You're good for me! I refuse to accept your decision," he decided on his own, similar to what Kagome had already done for him.

"To…"

"Don't try to patronize me, you've been fighting and running away from me with every step! I want no one else but you! Don't you get it?" He threw it out in frustration, tiredness entering into his voice at the end of it his tight grip on her wrist loosened slightly.

It was this that she was afraid of, the vulnerable side of him that little has seen and it just sparked something in her. Kagome stood where she was, body stiffening, unsure of how she should react to this, or in this case, how to not react like she usually would when he gets like that. It almost always never failed in making her vulnerable to him when he opened up so much to her.

"Tony…We just can't…" she trailed, drawing her hand away as she avoided looking at Tony in the face.

"I'll give anything and everything in exchange for you," his voice begged her as she looked out the window of her room. The silence between them was a long tensed one before words flew out of her mouths, cutting words that were intended to hurt.

"It's impossible, you who will wither and die away with age, whilst I will forever remain looking the same, not aging a single day." She said, pausing for a moment, already feeling the tension between them thickening, "And you," she swallowed thickly, "Will not last 10 minutes with our kinds," Kagome said, her eyes still looking out of the window.

"I can prove you wrong, make the impossible possible, there are too many possibilities for us to be together,"

"And so little time for you to come up with the possibilities that will not get you killed earlier." she told him, swallowing the lump in her throat as she moved away from him. "Or be killed by one of our many enemies,"

"That's not going to happen, I will make sure o-" he said, but was cut mid way through when she raised her voice a little more than she had expected.

"Do not make promises of it when one cannot perceive what our enemies might have in mind next, or even be killed by them or by the experiments," she began. Her tone cold and hostile as Kagome tried once again to gather her bearing and composure, a hand tightly clutched into a fist as her nails dug into the palm of her hands.

"Then let them come, I'll fend them off," Tony insisted as he grabbed hold of her fisted hand, trying to relax it as his thumb drew circles upon the hand.

"No Tony," she said shaking her head as Kagome, "You won't always be able to," there were so much more that she wanted to say.

The knocking on the door stopped her from saying any more as a staff called from beyond the door informing her that Sesshoumaru was expecting her down in the dojo. There were things that she had originally wanted to do, but with his appearance, it had messed up her sense of timing. Something that her self-induced coma was enough to help in messing with time, but did nothing much to her.

"Please leave, and forget about me,"

"No, please, I really mean everything that I say,"

"I'm sorry Tony, goodbye," she said, constantly avoided looking at him as she exited her room as fast as she could, dodging his hand that reached out to grab hers as she disappeared to the dojo where Sesshoumaru awaited for her.

"It's going to get a lot easier once we're far away and won't see him for a long time," Kagome told herself in comfort, and false conviction. At least she has the training session to help keep her mind off him.

Tony was left in her room, dismissed as he turned on his heel to hurry on after her on instinct. She moves fast, disappearing almost instantly had he not been keeping his eyes on where she went, mainly her. Many times he hesitated and either she got away, or ran away, the same as to what she was now doing to him now, again.

"Kagome!" Tony called after her, following down the path that she went in, but was blocked by one of the household staff, a lean tall male with glasses who looked at him rather glaringly.

"Sorry Mr. Stark, but you are not allowed beyond here without Mr. Taisho's permission,"

"I've something very important to speak to Ms. Higurashi about," Tony told him expectantly waiting for him to move aside.

"Well," Tony demanded again, waiting for him to move aside, he sighed out in frustration, rolling his eyes as he pushed passed the male "Look, this is an emergency," instead of just letting Tony to go past, the young male held him back by placing a pressured hand upon his shoulder.

"Don't touch me," Tony said, annoyed at the action as he turned to face the male that did so. "Mr. Stark, please turn and leave or we will have you escorted out,"

"Again, do not touch me," Tony said again, pronounce and elongating each of his words in annoyance as he waited for the other to take his hand off.

"Please turn back Mr. Stark," he said calmly, blocking a punch that was thrown at him from Tony.

"Mr. Stark, please turn around," he said again so calmly that it annoyed Tony as he kept dodging it with ease like swatting a fly but they both freeze when they felt a foreboding shadow and mainly the dangerously loud growling.

A/N:

To the Readers
Hello all of you! A big Happy New Year shout out to everyone! Not too sure how many of you are still reading this, but thank you for all of your continuous support for this fan fic. So this fan fic I thought that would be ending earlier, but guess it will be prolonged a little more, and I hope that al of your enjoy it and stay tune! Take care and have a great year!

To Spastic Freak
I've been thinking on that as well, and various other possibilities that might help make it work out in a different light, though guess I'm rather stagnant in that area at the moment as well using what has been tried and proven. I'll look forward to seeing your two Harry Potter fan fic posted up. =]

Haha I'm glad for an outlet, if not these stories are going to keep floating in my head and haunting me in my dreams as well. I so agree, I usually almost always revert back to reading on instead of Wattpad or any other website as well. Maybe cause this is also a form of base that's already been established and I'm more used to it. These days, it's been nothing but my laptop for me, good too, if not I'm going to be squinting without knowing it when I am on my handphone.

I love sarcasm and cynicism, sadly am not always that good in putting it into words as well. I stick to Inuyasha base crossover, my only niche and comfort zone I guess. Anything else, I fear I might not have the confidence to. I've yet to read it, though it will be in my reading list now that I've seen it, but it does sound very appealing. Always been a fan of a Sess/Kagome pairing myself, and maybe the occasional Miroku/Kagome and Naraku/Kagome pairing as well.

Hmmm, I'm rambling, hahaha.

I wish that you have a great New Year as well, not too sure if it is holiday for you still though.
