Chapter 24: Sudden Death

"In breaking new, it has been reported that the private jet in which Ms. Higurashi Kagome and a few staffs onboard disappeared off the radar suddenly. Ms Higurashi was meant to have landed in San Diego earlier this evening but have been reported that the private jet was nowhere in sight after 5 hours of wait. Authorities have been alerted and search and rescue teams have been sent in hopes of finding the missing jet…"

The news hit the media loud and hard, shocking Tony when JARVIS alerted him of what happened. His heart sank with dread that it was perhaps his enemy that might have found out of his weak point or even someone pulling her out of the game, and it made him do his own search as he deployed out his suits and other resources to help with the search.

There were no signs of foul play and all that was indicated in the report was that the private jet went missing over the ocean on a long flight journey to San Diego for a meeting. The news it shattered the world around of him immediately as Tony made use of all his resources into locating the missing vessel that she was supposedly upon. His heart was racing so quickly it was a miracle that he was not having a heart attack at the moment as Tony gave orders to JARVIS to place trajectory location of the missing vessel. He had tried to search out the area by himself, but came up without any result like everyone else.

Kagome was not given the chance to say when her disappearance was to be but only to hurry with all her paper documents that needed to be settled face before her 'death'. Everything was set and staged, and now she was in one of the most luxurious island where the rich frolic and play everyday.

Monte Carlo, the playground of the rich most of the average people would dream of coming to, and to retire to as well, but that is if they had the funds to. They were certainly rich enough and more than well-able to buy just about anything and everything that they wanted without a care of the possible dent that it will do to their bank account. Every little thing, right down to the details were something that they are more than used to with the number of deaths that they had staged through their long-lived and almost immortal lives.

Her mind was filled with many thoughts and worry for the first time, her family did not know that this was a staged death on her part, the only few that knows about it are Sesshoumaru, Shippo and their ever few faithful generals that continue to lead in Sesshoumaru's army under his command. It was perhaps cruel and twisted in quite a few sense, however their long live was something that they cannot afford to make known to the humans that live around them. As she basked under the clear blue skies and warm sun of Monte Carlo, Kagome tried to force her mind to remain clear and not think of anything for now. Sesshoumaru will take care of everything for her.

"Signora Caro, a call for you," her housekeeper informed her as she glance at the middle aged woman that works for her.

Kagome (aka Ariana Caro) took the phone that was placed next to the table as she answered it in Italian, as she reached out for a cool drink under the heat.

Ariana Caro, the darling of the socialites in Monte Carlo was one of the alias that she had acquired over the years, along with it, she too took on the illusion of another female somewhat closely resembling her original self. Little was known about her except that she travels a lot but returns once in a while to keep up with appearance. It was somewhat tedious, but at least it gave her a few more alias to play with should she have to fake death again.

"Hello Sesshoumaru," Kagome replied with a purr in her voice, keeping up with appearance of Ariana until her housekeeper was out of hearing range.

The call was a short one, but with enough information that she would need to carry on the next few steps to be sure that everything will continue on as though nothing had happened. Kagome sighed as she hung up the phone, her mind lingering for a while longer of the things that she originally had, or nearly did. Now with her death as Kagome Higurashi, she began life again as Arianna Cora, one of the darlings of Monte Carlo's more shy socialites.

"Marianna, we're going to be having a party this weekend, please help me with the planning," Kagome spoke to her housekeeper in Italian when she saw her returning with a tray of snacks.

Her housekeeper smiled as she returned into the house to make the necessary call and no doubt begin preparation for dinner. Now as Ariana Cora, CEO of a flourishing biotech company, a woman who was clearly underestimated by her competitors with her appearance seemingly lack of an air of danger. Then again who could blame them, there are not many women out there that would have gone down the same path as her, especially with the wealth of her 'family'. With this new life, it gave her opportunities to focus on other projects that she had been working on during her free time until the appearance of Tony in her life and that is where she began neglecting her other duties.

Tony Stark was devastated, he returned to drinking and sometimes the occasional drugs as well to keep him feeling somewhat stimulated in mind and away from the nightmares that were plaguing him again. He had exhausted all his resources and yet there was nothing at all to be found, not the plane, or any clue that she may have survived the plane crash. It was just so impossible that she was able to die when she was in much sense 'out of this world'.

Pepper had tried to many times to drag him out of his misery of drowning in drinks and loud parties that he would throw just about every other week. Pepper had tried many times to straighten his life back to how it was again, but picking up the pieces of him was proving to be difficult as compared to when he was having a break down after the New York incident or when he thought that he was going to die without a chance of survival. Now it was different, someone he had wanted to settle down with, have left his world without so much as a word or hide of her, and to make it worse, it was possible that she might have died in the plane crash.

He dreaded the later and had been continuously searching for her despite of what many news and people told him about her disappearance. Sesshoumaru was unreachable, and news of the stock market for Tesso Corps was dropping almost too drastically fast. With Kagome gone, it was likely that such things would happen as well as a rumor that was spreading around about Tesso Corps, though not many know from the source of it but said it was rather reliable. Tony scoffed at it as he down more scotch down his throat as it burned a path down to his stomach.

To think that back then they were just having the most mind-blowing act of love and now she was suspected dead as authorities and search groups are out trying to find her body and the black box. Tony was already at his wits end and have sunken back down to the simplest pleasures and means of distraction to take his mind off her from time to time, but never once did he lose hope in searching for her.

Everything was going well in Sesshoumaru's view despite of the drop in their company's stock, in fact now he could plan for a way to have Kagome return as Ariana Caro to buy up the stocks for her biotech firm, not that he was incapable of buying it himself or absorbing it back. It was just a means of expanding and keeping her a look out for her more closely with the 'death' of Kagome Higurashi as a means of excuse. Another thought creep into his mind on the possibility of Tony Stark meeting her should the new partnership with APOLLO, a biotech company that Kagome, the now Ariana Caro, runs successfully on her own.

Shippo was long notified of what was going on, and it was a good thing that he had finally calmed down from the rejection, but Sesshoumaru had placed on of his more skilled generals with him just in case things were to get out of hand again. Sesshoumaru made sure to have the warning imprinted into Shippo's mind that he was to stay a distance away from Kagome no matter of what alias or appearance she was in, and not to blow their already fabricated story to cover her 'death'.

Many potential investors and partners came pouring in at both Sesshoumaru and Shippo at the sudden news of her death and the deep drop of one of their stock, whilst Kagome was far away in Monte Carlo, already refining her charade as Ariana Caro. There were many things that needed to be done, and no longer than a few hours a day was Kagome given the chance to grieve or think about Tony.

"Hello Sesshoumaru, Ariana Caro speaking, I'm planning on a little get together in my villa in Monte Carlo, do join us this weekend for it," came her sly voice of glee, no doubt planning something whilst in the presence of others. It was a good news to him, to hear that she was now more used to the persona as Ariana Caro than that of Kagome Higurashi if not it will jeopardize her identity even with the illusion spell to make her more different than the original.

"We will accept this invite Ariana, expect us at your party," he replied monotonously before ending the phone call.

Kagome had a tired look upon her face as she turned with a smile to return to the gathering members of APOLLO's board members in the office conference room for their long overdue meeting.
