Emmett couldn't be trusted.

At least, not out on his own. No matter what, he somehow managed to find himself in a baby store. He could leave to get me pudding, and he would come back with pudding, don't get me wrong. I finally had someone willing to get my junk food, much to both my mothers' irritation. However, he would always come back with pudding, plus something else. Usually, some kind of baby onesie, with some kind of cute saying on it. I loved almost every one that he got... not that I told him that.

The first time, it was 'Did 9 months hard time, now I'm doing 18 years parole'. I barely managed to stifle my giggle and fixed a glare on him. "What did you do?"

'He's gonna need something to wear.'

"Yeah, in 27 weeks. He wears me right now."

He pouted, but Kathryn took it with a smile. "I'll put it away."

It was several times after this before I found the stash of baby clothes. There was a room at the end of a hall, the same hall my room was in, that was empty. It had always been used for storage, though it mostly looked cleaned out. There was still a couple boxes of Christmas decorations sitting in the corner, with a few various others. On a shelf, sat the carefully folded clothes, about 10 onesies. With a soft sigh, I slowly went through them, laughing at a choice few. Evidently, Daphne had added to the collection, as one read, 'My Auntie doesn't spoil me, she is just very accommodating.'

There was one that brought me to tears, though, and I was glad no one had seen me. 'I'm cute, my mom's cute, and my dad is lucky' it read. I lightly stroked the words before my hand fell to my belly. For all his faults, Emmett really did love us. It was almost overwhelming sometimes. It was like when you stand outside, and everything is calm, and then the wind blows so hard in your face it's difficult to take a breath.

I carefully folded the clothes and placed them back on the shelf before slowly looking around the room. I didn't know who had deemed this should be the baby's room-probably Mom-but I agreed with them. She had probably started clearing the room out when we were at school. The walls were a very pale blue, and I liked it. I went to the windows and pulled open the curtains, opening the window. The room lit up and I went to the wall across from the window, pressing my palm against it. I slowly began tracing a pattern with my finger before turning and walking back to my own room, grabbing a few pencils and nearly jogging back. I pulled out my phone and started some music before I turned to the wall, quickly beginning my sketch.

By the time someone knocked on the door, the light outside was fading. I turned, eyes wide, where Kathryn stood with an amused grin. "I see you found my hiding place."

"I did."

"You don't want to paint the walls?"

"No. I mean, I do. With this. But I like the blue."

"What if it's a girl?"

"I'm a girl and I like blue." I shrugged and stepped back, looking at my handiwork. In the center, there was a teddy bear in overalls, a rose tucked in his pocket. He sat in a patch of grass, a bee flying by, and a couple of ladybugs in the grass. I wasn't sure what else I wanted to put on, maybe clouds, more flowers, more bugs, whatever came to mind. I set my pencils back in their case and went to the window, shutting it and the curtains.

"So, Miss Painting the Wall, you feel like you might stop giving Emmett grief about clothes? I mean, after all, it's not like the baby's going to be looking at the wall for another... what, 26 weeks?"

I snorted slightly and went out in to the hallway, and she followed close behind. "Yeah, yeah, I guess..." I muttered.

"Good, because he got more."

"More what?"

"There's toys in the closet."

"He started this a week ago, how does he have time for all this?"

Mom blushed lightly. "Ok, so it's not just him. I get some stuff, too. And Daphne. And Regina. I think even your brother got something."

"Am I seriously the last one?"

She laughed, shaking her head slightly. "Food's almost done. Could you get Emmett for me?"

"Yeah, sure." I went to my room to put the pencils away before going to Emmett's room. He left his door open most of the time, and it was the case tonight. I reached in and flickered his lights for his attention.

He looked up from his laptop, quickly closing it. 'What's up?'

"Mom wanted me to tell you that dinner was almost done. But... Can we talk?"

He was instantly concerned, sitting up straighter. I stepped inside, closing the door behind me. I stopped a couple feet from the bed, thinking over my words. I wasn't good at admitting when I was wrong.

"Um... The baby clothes... We should probably put those off." Emmett raised his hands, ready to argue, but I held a hand up. "I mean, until we get the... the bigger stuff. Like a crib, and a changing table. We should have the room set up first, I think. Then get the clothes."

He smiled widely, and relaxed back against the bed. 'Ok. I think I can live with that.'

"This weekend we could... I don't know, we could start looking at stuff. Make a list of what we like, and look at the reviews, I guess? See if they're any good. Make sure we don't get a brand that breaks a lot."

'Absolutely.'

"And don't forget we have an appointment in two weeks."

'I'm definitely not forgetting that.'

"Ok. Ok, good. So, um... Dinner will be ready soon." I quickly turned and left the room, making sure the door was open. I hadn't wanted to get anything, yet, figuring it was too soon. I was only 14 weeks along, after all, which didn't seem very far at all. Until I heard it compared to trimesters, or time remaining. Barely done with the first trimester, 26 weeks to go. That didn't sound like it was very far off. It was hard to wrap my mind around. A lot of the time, I decided not to wrap my mind around it at all, and instead focused on school work. I had also heard about a pilot program to Carlton. I was trying to get in, but hadn't bothered telling anyone, knowing it would get Emmett's hopes up.

I wasn't sure if I would be admitted. It was kind of a weird time for me to try to get in, but I would feel better knowing I was closer to Emmett. Purely because of the baby, of course. No other reason. Not at all.

I watched as Emmett passed my door and I figured it could be 'soon' enough for food. I shut off my light and made my way downstairs.
