Jim woke up in a cramped space with not a lot of room to move around in and a heavy object on top of him, weighing down on him. Blinking his eyes a few times he noticed it was Sophie on top of him, her face buried in his chest and he sighed wrapping his arms around her trying to remember what happened. It was then that everything hit him, Spock and his argument and the Vulcan pinch but what he couldn't figure out was why Sophie was there with him.
"Computer where are we?" Jim asked quietly trying not to wake her just yet.
"Location Delta Vega. Class M planet, unsafe. There is a Starfleet Outpost 14 kilometers to the northwest. Remain in your…" the computer said as Jim interrupted it at the end.
"You gotta be kidding me." He said.
"Sorry Jimmy." Sophie mumbled moving a little.
"Soph what the hell happened? Why are you here?" Jim asked trying to see her face.
"I couldn't let him just maroon you on some planet Jim. So I kinda…talked back to Spock, more like argued, argued is a good word for it." Sophie said looking at him. "He told me that I needed to chose between Starfleet and you and well…you know the answer."
"Jesus Soph." Jim said.
"Bones agreed with me." She said softly. "I know it was illogically or whatever bullshit Spock would say but it was the right thing to do… to come with you I think."
"I…thank you Soph." he said kissing her forehead. "Now come on, let's get out of here and change into something warm."
The two then found a bag full of 2 snow pants, 2 sets of boots, and 2 heavy winter coats what went to their knees, so they decided to climb up the wall of ice and snow and then change up there.
"You go up first Soph." Jim said slinging the bag over his back.
"What?" Sophie said turning around to face him. "Why me?"
He let out a laugh before leaning in close to her, "So I can catch you if you fall." Jim whispered.
Sophie smiled and rolled her eyes before starting to climb up the wall. Together it took them 15 minutes to climb the wall before reaching the top where they stood up and took a look around the planet they landed on. The planet they were stranded on was covered completely in ice and snow with no signs of life anywhere seen. She saw Jim kick the snow in anger and let out a scream of frustration.
Sophie shivered as a big wind came through sending chills through her enough body. She then bent down and started to pull out the clothes to put on.
"Jim, here." Sophie said tossing him a pair of snow pants.
The two of them then spend the next 10 minutes putting on their snow pants, boots and winter coats and gloves. Sophie shivered again putting her gloves on when she felt hands on the hood of her coat. Looking up she saw it was Jim who was putting the hood of her coat up, making sure it was firmly in place and keeping her warm, before hugging her close to his body.
"You ready?" Jim asked pulling back so he could see her face.
"If we must." She replied smiling leaning in close to him before he stopped her causing her to frown.
"After we get off this damn planet, I promise." He whispered kissing her neck lightly a few times. "I promise."
Sophie nodded as she grinned and the two of them took across the ice and snow.
Hours later Sophie and Jim were still walking across the ice and snow; the only difference now was there was a massive snowstorm that had hit. Neither of them were saying anything but walking in comfortable silence as they held hands, so as not to drift to far apart in the wind. Sophie suddenly stopped pulling on Jim's hand and holding on tighter.
"Jim…" she said turning around.
"What?" he asked turning around as well only to find a huge black shape coming closer ad closer to him. Jim froze and realized it was a creature charging them. Jim turned, keeping a hold of her hand, and started to run as fast as they could away from the creature.
The two keep running, falling and tripping before they felt something crash through the surface, knocking them to the ground. They glanced behind each other to find a larger creature had come up from under the ground and snapped the smaller creature in half before turning towards them.
"Oh my…" Sophie started before Jim tugged her up and they started to run again, faster then before. They were running so fast that they weren't watching were they were going and started to fall down the side of a mountain, tumbling down together with the creature falling down behind them as well. They finally slipped to the bottom and fell on the ice and snow next to each other.
"Soph you ok?" Jim said watching the creature fall towards them still.
"Yeah you?"
"Yeah come on!" Jim yelled to her, running off with her again before the creature fell where they were.
He steered them towards a cave opening. The two kept running as he pushed her in first and followed her in as they ran with all their strength left. The cave however did not stop the creature from following them in, it busted through the ice and snow and followed them in before opening it's mouth and stuck out its tongue and latching on to Jim's leg making him scream.
"JIM!" Sophie screamed turning around grabbing his arms trying to pull him free.
The creature pulled Jim forward a slightly with Sophie still holding on to Jim before a man with a torch came out of no where towards the creature, waving the torch and effectively having it let go of Jim. Sophie knelt down next to Jim from behind and hugged him around the neck as the creature left the cave.
"You ok?" she whispered in his ear, as they watched the man turn around.
"I'm fine. You ok?"
"Yeah." She said noticing the man was just staring them now and he was not just a human but a Vulcan.
"James T. Kirk." the Vulcan said softly after a minute, "And Sophie Kirk."
"Excuse me?" Jim said confused voicing Sophie's exact words, after hearing him call her Sophie Kirk.
"How did you find me?" the Vulcan asked ignoring Jim's words.
"How do you know my name?" Jim said getting up to stand next to Sophie closely. "And her name is Sophie Pace, not Kirk."
"I have, and always shall be your friend." He replied. "And you are not Kirk? Mhmm…my apologies."
Jim sighed and chuckled. "I…I don't know you."
"I am Spock."
Jim and Sophie stared at the Vulcan completely confused as they looked at him then at each other then back to him. Jim's face got real serious before he said, "Bullshit."
"Come. Let go us get a fire started and get the two of you warm." 'Spock' said before taking off further into the cave leaving Sophie and Jim just standing there.
"Jim I know you don't believe him right now and neither do I but I'm freezing." Sophie said. "Let's go get warm and hear him out."
"Alright." Jim replied after a moment before he wrapped his arm around her waist and the two set off after the Vulcan.
By the time the two of them showed up he had started a fire so Sophie knelt by the fire and tried to get warm while Jim squatted next to her as well across from the Vulcan who was sitting on a rock of snow.
"It is remarkable pleasing to see you again old friends, especially after the events of day." 'Spock' told Jim.
"I…um…sir. I appreciate what you did for us today." Jim started while standing up. "But if-if you were Spock you'd know we're not friends, at all! You hate me, you marooned me for mutiny and then sent Sophie with me because she was trying to stop you for shipping me off."
"Mutiny?" 'Spock replied surprised.
"Yes."
"I argued Jim…argued." Sophie chimed in still getting warm, making Jim look at her. "What? I'm just saying."
"You are not the Captain?" 'Spock' asked.
Jim rolled his eyes at Sophie before sighing, "No, no that… you're the Captain. Pike was taken hostage."
"By Nero." He concluded.
At this statement both Jim and Sophie looked at each quite confused. They couldn't figure out how this person knew about Nero. Sophie slowly got up and walked over to Jim and stood next to him as he looked at 'Spock' trying to figure him out.
"What do you know about him?" Jim asked.
"He is a particular troubled Romulan. Please allow me." 'Spock' said getting up and walking over towards the two. "It will be easier"
At this he stuck out his hand towards Jim's face causing Jim to back up and Sophie to grab Jim's arm. "Whoa whoa…what're you doing?" Jim exclaimed.
"Our minds, one and together. Sophie you will see too, if you hold onto him." 'Spock' said before placing his hands on Jim's face.
"125 years from now, a star will explode and threaten to destroy the galaxy. That is where I am from, the future." 'Spock' explained and then all three minds connected. Jim and Sophie then started to see flashes of images from 'Spock' memory, as his voice became distorted.
The star went into supernova and consumed everything in its path. I promised the Romulans that I would save their planet. We outfitted our fastest ship. Using red matter, I would create a black hole, which would absorb the exploding star. I was on route when the unthinkable happened… The supernova destroyed Romulus. I had little time. I had to extract the red matter and shoot it into the supernova. As I began my return trip, I was intercepted. He called himself Nero. In my attempt to escape I pulled us both into the black hole… Nero went through first; he was the first to arrive and waited 25 years for my arrival… But what was years for Nero, was only seconds for me. I went through the black hole and Nero was waiting for me. He held me responsible for the loss of his world. He captured my vessel and spared my life for only one reason; so that I could know his pain. He beamed me here so I can observe his vengeance. As he was helpless to save his planet, so was I to help mine. Millions of lives… lost. Because of me Jim, because I failed.
Jim and Sophie broke from Spock's hand gasping for air while clinging to each other. Jim turns them around to stare at Spock, still holding onto Sophie. He now realizes the man in front of them is indeed Spock.
"Forgive me... emotional transference is an effect of the mind meld." Spock Prime told him.
"So you do feel." Jim more or less stated.
"Yes."
"Going back in time you changed all our lives." Jim stated looking at Sophie then at Spock Prime.
Yet Spock Prime did not respond to that statement but merely stood there before speaking. "Come we must go Jim…Sophie. There is an Starfleet outpost not far from here." He told them starting to leave the cave.
"Wait." Jim said standing there holding Sophie's hand as the two had finally regained their breaths. "Where you come from…did I know my father?"
Sophie sighed and squeezed Jim's hand, trying to let him know she was still there no matter what.
Spock Prime slowly turned around to study Jim and Sophie before answering. "Yes. You often spoke of him as being your inspiration for joining Starfleet. He proudly lived to see you become Captain of the Enterprise."
"Captain." Jim spoke as though he couldn't believe it.
"Yes a ship we must get you back to. Your father also lived to see you and Sophie to get married. He even walked her down the aisle considering her father was gone." Spock Prime continued.
"Married?" Sophie questioned very shocked. "That's why you called me Sophie Kirk isn't it?"
"Yes. I assumed you two were married in this reality. I am sorry for the confusion."
Sophie was too scared to look at Jim's face, afraid of what she might find. The two had been best friends since they were 10, and had been through more then normal kid had been through, they shared everything together and now she couldn't even face him. Jim on the other hand was feeling the same thing, he was too nervous to look at her because he realized he wanted to be with her and knowing that in another life they were together, that gave him hope. So be coming the fearless man that didn't believe in no-win scenarios.
"Maybe someday…" Jim whispered in her ear as Spock Prime turned leaves the cave.
She looked up at him with a little hope and nervousness in her eyes. Jim smiled at her before leaning down and kissing her head softly making her smiled while he rested his forehead on hers.
"After this is all over, we'll talk about everything. I promise." Jim said softly.
"I'm holding you too that James." She said in the same voice before she kissed his cheek softly and stepped back. Sophie grabbed his hand and the two then began to follow Spock Prime out of the cave, in hopes of finding the Starfleet outpost.
