Hours later the command crew exited the Admirals offices from debriefing them on the events that occurred. Jim was going to have a hearing in 3 days to deal with the consequences of his actions, while he cleared Bones of any charges for helping so he wouldn't get in trouble.
A week later Jim found himself in a conference room with the Admirals, including Pike. It was before the ceremony that would make him Captain of the USS Enterprise but they wanted to talk to him before hand. They had spent the better portion of the hour he was in there going over the rules, and expectations of him as Captain and their first mission.
"Well Kirk, any questions before we get on with the ceremony and make it official?" Admiral Barnett asked him.
"No sir," Jim said immediately before quickly saying, "Well actually yes."
"And what's that Kirk?" Admiral Archer said leaning forward in his seat.
"Lieutenant Pace," Jim said slowly receiving a nod from the Admirals letting him know they understood whom he was talking about. "Her and I are together, I just want you to know now. I understand you can't be involved with a officer but, it won't effect our work and frankly our relationship is pretty low key right now."
"Kirk…"
"She's been my best friend since we were 10, and the only thing that has changed in our relationship is now I get to kiss her whenever I want, and I get to hold her when I want."
"And what about away missions?" one of the Admirals asked.
"If she was needed to go or wanted to, I'd allow it. I'm not going to stop her from going if she wanted. Trust me I'd be more scared of her then you all if that happen." Jim said causing them to laugh. "I'm not going to lie and say I wouldn't be protective of her but I'd do that even if we weren't together and she was just my best friend."
"Usually we don't recommend that Captains have relationships," Admiral Barnett said. "But given the fact that Pike gave her the position and your relationship has started before you are Captain and you've been best friends I don't see it being a problem, as long as you two both perform your jobs and duties."
"We can do that sir."
"Good."
"Jim." Pike said from his seat, "How serious is it?"
"Sophie and I?"
"Yeah. How serious?"
"Very sir." Jim said smiling and pulling out a little box from his pocket.
"I had it made and picked it up this morning." Jim said nervously as he fidgeted in his seat. "Don't tell her, because it won't happen for a while but I didn't know when we'd be back here."
"Congrats Jim. And we won't tell her." Pike said with the Admirals agreeing with him.
Sophie, Bones and the rest of the Enterprise crew sat together in the stands waiting for the ceremony to start. Soon enough they were all standing and Jim was up front with Admiral Barnett.
"This assembly calls Captain James. Tiberius Kirk." Admiral Barnett said for everyone to hear. "Your inspirational valor and supreme dedication to your comrades are in keeping with the highest traditions of service and reflect utmost credit to yourself, your crew, and the Federation. It's my honor to award you with a commendation."
The Admiral then presented him with a medal and pinned it on him.
"By Starfleet Order 28455, you are hereby directed to report to Admiral Pike, USS Enterprise, for duty as his relief."
Jim nods and turns to walk over to Pike who is sitting there in a wheel chair, the doctor's said he would be able to walk but it would take some time.
"I relieve you sir." Jim said smiling slightly.
"I am relieved." Pike said smiling.
"Thank you sir." Jim nodded smiling.
"Congratulations Captain." Pike said reaching his hand out to shake Jim's. "Your father would be proud."
"Hey!" Sophie said coming up with Jim and Bones to the rest of the bridge crew. "We're going out celebrating, you guys want to come?"
"Hell yeah!" Scotty exclaimed causing everyone to laugh.
So the trio, Scotty, Sulu, Chekov, Uhura, and even Spock made their way to the bar and ordered a round of shots and drinks. By mid-night the entire crew was laughing, dancing and having a good time. Chekvo and Scotty were singing completely drunk, Uhura and Spock were talking in low voices very close to each other, Bones and Sulu were chatting while Sophie and Jim were dancing on the dance floor. Neither of them were too drunk but definitely feeling the drinks and shots they took. Grabbing Jim's hand she pulled him away from the dance floor and towards the table again, and picked her purse up.
"Wanna get out of here?" Sophie whispered into Jim's ear while he wrapped his arms around her waist.
"Hell yes." He said kissing her quickly leaving her wanting more before turning to everyone else. "Hey we're heading out."
Bones looked up from his conversation, "Our place?"
Jim nodded leaning in to Bones while Sophie said goodbye to Uhura, "You can come back, we won't be doing anything."
"And why is that? Usually you can't wait." Bones said curious.
"Because she's different. I don't want to rush this Bones. She's my best-friend, I love her I don't want to mess this up."
Bones cocked his head to the side studying his best friend. "She's changed you."
Jim smiled, "For the better I hope. I'll see you back there. Come on Soph." he said taking her hand and leading her out of the bar.
The walk back to Jim and Bone's dorm wasn't long at all and before Sophie knew it they were there.
"You know we aren't going to have sex tonight right?" Jim said softly as they lay down on his bed, she had changed into a shirt of his while he left his boxers and t-shirt on.
"I know." She said just as softly turning to face him. "Now tell me why you don't want to James?"
"You're different." He said throwing an arm around her pulling her close. "I want to take this slow because I want this to work. I want to spend the rest of my life with you and frankly sex can wait if I have you forever."
"Forever?" she asked looking up at him as he nodded, "I like the sound of that."
"Me too." He mumbled leaning down and capturing his lips with hers. While one of his hands was in her hair the other traveled down to her butt, landing on and grabbing hold of it to pull her closer. Sophie smiled against his lips and ran her hands over his chest. The two of them kiss for a while longer enjoying each other before pulling away for a breath of air.
Jim kept his hand on her butt while kissing her head softly, "Night Soph."
"Night." She mumbled kissing his jaw before resting her head on his chest and falling asleep.
Waking up Sophie found herself on her side with a heavy arm over her keeping her warm while her back was pressed up against a warm body. Sighing she turned around in the arms and faced Jim and snuggled further into him.
"Morning." Jim said softly with a sleepy voice.
"Hi." She whispered back kissing his jaw making him open his eyes finally and look down at her smiling a smile he reserved only for her.
"I ever tell you how beautiful you are?" he asked making sure not to wake Bones who was sleeping.
"Mhmm…I don't think so." She teased.
"Oh well then ok."
"Jim!" she said playfully as he flipped them so now he was on top.
"Beautiful," he said kissing her forehead, "Stunning," kiss to the nose, "Gorgeous," kiss to the cheeks, "Sexy," he whispered kissing her ear before hovering over he lips. "I love you." He said.
"I love you too." She replied pulling him down so that they could kiss.
"So," Sophie said a while later after they finished their make-out session and were lying in bed still. "What is our first mission Captain?"
"Captain? I like the sound of that." Jim said grinning at her. "But our first assignment is classified Lieutenant Pace."
"Aw, but Captain," Sophie said moving her hand over his bare chest. "You can't even tell me?"
"Soph," Jim said with slight groan stopping her hand movement. "You're going to be the death of me one day."
"And you wouldn't have it any other way." She said teasing him as she looked up into his crystal clear blue eyes.
"No I guess I wouldn't." he said returning her smile.
Sophie sat at her console waiting patiently for Jim to come on board. She saw Bones come and stand in front of her console as she checked things over. It had been 3 weeks since Jim was made Captain and they had to wait that long only because the ship was still being prepared, but today they finally got to leave.
"Maneuvering thrusters and impulse engines," Sulu said.
"Weapons systems and shields on standby." Chekov said from his station.
"Dock control reports ready, Captain." Uhura said when the doors swooshed open again and she found her boyfriend, Captain James T. Kirk standing there in his yellow Captain's shirt smirking. He spotted Sophie and Bones and his smirk turned into a grin before walking towards Bones.
"Buckle up Bones." Jim said smacking his back at Bones rolled his eyes.
Jim quickly made a detour at Sophie station kissing her quickly on the lips smiling before going to take his seat in the Captain's chair.
"Scotty how we doin'?" Jim asked him from his seat on the intercom.
"Dilithium chamber at maximum, Captain." He replied.
"Mr. Sulu prepare to engage thrusters." Jim told him right as the doors to the bridge opened again revealing Spock.
"Permission to come on board Captain?" Spock said with his hands behind his back.
"Permission granted." Jim replied getting up out of his chair.
"As you have yet to select a first officer, respectfully, I would like to submit my candidacy. Should you desire, I can provide character references." He said walking forwards towards Jim.
" It would be my honor, Commander." Jim told him before Spock went to sit down next to Uhura at his station. "Maneuvering thrusters, Mr. Sulu."
"Thrusters on standby."
"Take us out." Jim said smiling.
"Aye. Aye Captain."
