One Year later
"Captain." Uhura said from her station. "We have an incoming transmission from Admiral Archer."
"Archer?" Jim said spinning around in his position at Sophie's consol with Bones.
"Yes sir."
"Alright put it up." Jim replied walking over and taking a seat in his chair, while Bones stood by Sophie's consol with her.
"Kirk. Good to see you again." Archer said coming on the screen.
"You too sir. How many I help you?" Jim asked.
"You have a new assignment Kirk." Archer told him. "Where are you headed right now?"
"Going in for parts and supplies at Starbase 11 sir."
"I want you to head to Starbase 134 instead Kirk."
"What for Admiral?"
"You'll be picking up two new passengers." He replied.
"Sulu."
"On it sir." Sulu replied changing their course.
"Where are we taking them sir?" Jim asked the Admiral.
"Nowhere." Archer replied to which Jim raised his eyebrows.
"New additions to the crew?"
"Nope. You are to protect them."
"Protect them? From who?"
"Governor Kodos of Tarsus is back." Archer told Jim who's eyes went wide and looked at Sophie who looked pale and ready to faint as she gripped her consol.
"He's...can't be. He's dead sir." Jim said his voice gone tight and his body tense and ridged but the only one to notice this change was Bones and Sophie, she had been looking at him instead of the screen.
"We thought so too until 2 weeks ago when he resurfaced and was found leaving the planet of Seros. He had been apparently hiding there and we now suspect he is out for revenge on the Nine survivors of Tarsus."
"And what makes you suspect that sir?" Jim asked his body getting more and more tense.
"2 days ago we found the bodies of 3 of the Nine." Archer reported without any emotion in voice.
"3?" Jim replied getting up out of his chair and looking at Sophie who was now watching him with pained eyes. "Who…Who were the 3 sir?"
"I can't tell you Kirk."
"Why not?" Jim said more harshly then he intended too causing the Admiral to cock his head to the side.
"I'm not allowed to reveal that information Kirk. You're not cleared."
"I am more than you think." Jim muttered for the bridge to hear but the Admiral before speaking out loud. "What about the other 5? What about them?"
"3 of them are fine and seeing as you will picking up 2 of them at Starbase 134. The other one is safe but I can't tell you where at. Two of the Nine we can't find and haven't been able too since they left the hospital 12 years ago." Archer told the Captain and crew. "It seems JT and Fee are very good at not being found and we have no last names for them. We just know them as JT and Fee. Nothing more, but we're still looking for them."
"Admiral," Spock started when he noticed Jim was looking at Sophie and she at him. "What is it you plan on having us do with our new guests."
"I would like the Enterprise to go patrol the Bajoran system until we can get Kodos into custody and then we will have you bring them back for the trial."
"Very well Admiral." Spock replied.
"Captain. We're arriving at Starbase 134 in 15 minutes." Sulu said cutting into the silent air that had seem to engulf the bridge.
"Thank you Sulu." Jim said once again tense, breaking eye contact with Sophie to face the Admiral. "Anything else Admiral?"
"No Kirk. I'll send you file and all the information I can give you." Archer said. "I would like to warn you though. These two who are coming aboard are very emotionally damaged, they might not show it but they are. So be care…"
"I get it Admiral." Jim snapped looking at the Admiral while everyone on the bridge stared at him with shocked looks, everyone except Sophie and Bones that is. Sophie was too concentrated on not fainting as she was having trouble breathing and Bones was too concerned with keeping an eye on Sophie and Jim, he had moved to stand next to Sophie at this point putting a calming hand on her shoulder.
"Breathe." Bones said softly noticing her breathing. "Breathe Sophie." Sophie nodded trying hard to concentrate on her breathing.
The Admiral just nodded slightly confused at the tone Jim had taken with him but shrugged it off easily before continuing, "I also have one more thing to show you before I leave. I'm showing this to all the Captains and their bridge officers, just so they know exactly what Kodo's is capable of. This video was found after the Starfleet had rescued the Nine. Lieutenant if you would hit play."
Uhura nodded at the Admiral and hit the play button. On the screen the video came up and what they saw would give anyone shivers. It appeared to be a dark lit room with no furniture in it, and a girl around the age of 12 or 13 in the room pacing back and forth. A few seconds into the video there was a terribly scream that let loose and sent chills down everyone's spine as the screaming wouldn't stop. The girl in the room went to the corner of the room and slides down the wall and curled into a ball shaking.
The bridge was completely silent as they watched the video. Jim stood in the middle of the bridge staring at the video as well, his body tense and his face pale while he watched. He was so consumed by the video that he didn't notice Sophie. Sophie couldn't turn her face away from the video as tears started to form in her eyes while her hands and body started to tremble. Jim was only pulled away from the video when he heard a small sob on the bridge, he torn his gaze from the video and found it was Sophie who had covered her mouth with her hand and was shaking.
"Lieutenant Uhura turn it off." Jim ordered sharply keeping his eyes on Sophie who couldn't tear her eyes from the screen. Uhura quickly turned it off noting the tension on the bridge and frankly because she didn't want to watch it anymore either. Jim then turned to the Admiral who was still on screen. "Admiral, I honestly don't know why you would show that to anyone. It's horrifying and frankly it's a private thing that no one should have ever seen. If we are done here then I have things to attend to before my new guests arrive." Jim finished telling the Admiral rather harshly.
Admiral merely nodded taking a look around the bridge. "Were done Kirk. Keep them safe." And with those last words the Admiral was gone off the screen and the transmission done.
The bridge remained silent as Jim kept his eyes on the screen. He furious that Admiral Archer not only told him that Kodo's was back but showed that video. He also couldn't believe that Kodo's was back, a man who he believed was dead. Jim took a deep breath trying to steady his voice, knowing all eyes were on him and Sophie.
"Lieutenant Pace go wait for me in my ready room." Jim said his voice very thick, but after getting no responds from her he turned to Sophie and realized she was still staring at the screen. "Pace…Sophie…Sophie Elaina Pace!"
Sophie snapped her head towards Jim at hearing her full name and let the tears fall silently down her face. "Go to my ready room and wait for me." Jim repeated to her only to have her shake her head at him.
Jim was at her side in an instant and she was in his arms as he hugged her tightly to him. His crew, his ship, everything was forgotten as Sophie buried her face in his neck and him in her hair trying to block out the world.
"He's back JT." Sophie whispered. "He's back."
"I know Fee. I know." Jim mumbled back before pulling back from her and wiping her tears. He then looked to Bones, "Bones take her to my ready room. I'll be right behind you Soph."
Bones nodded and placed a hand on Sophie's shoulder. "Come on Soph."
Jim watched Bones and Sophie walk to his ready room, which was located right off the bridge, before turning to face his crew that was watching him intently.
"Mr. Sulu, how long until we dock?" Jim asked back in his Captain voice.
"Coming up on docking right now." Sulu replied.
"Take her in then Mr. Sulu." Jim said taking a seat in his chair not making eye contact with anyone.
"Captain we've docked." Sulu reported a few minutes later.
"Very good Mr. Sulu." Jim told him before pressing his intercom button to make a ship wide message. "Captain Kirk here, we've just docked at Starbase 134, having just got off with Admiral Archer to changed our plans. Here we will gather our supplies and parts that we need to repair before heading on to the Bajoran system to do patrol. We won't be here more than a few hours. Kirk out."
"Captain." Spock said drawing Jim's attention.
"Spock. Have Scotty and whomever else he needs beam down and get the supplies and parts we need."
"Yes sir. But Captain…" Spock started to say.
"You have the Conn Spock. I'll be in my ready room and alert me when our visitors beam up and bring them to the bridge." Said Jim firmly cutting him off, leaving no room for question before retreating back to his ready room, leaving everyone in the room stunned.
