Time seemed to fly by, and soon it was the morning of the 16th. I had my suitcase packed, and Daphne came over for breakfast.
"Are you excited?"
"I have no idea."
"This is going to be so fun. They emailed me what we're going to be doing yesterday."
"A spa weekend and I don't even need to make decisions? This is wonderful already."
She laughed, and we soon finished eating. We were gone soon after, on our way to the spa.
...
When we got there, people were standing outside. I don't know if they were waiting for us specifically, or if they always stood there, but when we pulled up they instantly came to get our bags. Another man was a valet, and soon the car was driving away. We went inside, and Daphne went to the front desk.
"Hi, I'm Daphne Vasquez, and this is Bay Kennish. We're here to check in."
"Alright..." The woman at the computer typed a few things before she smiled and handed each of us key cards. "You're in rooms 107 and 108. They're adjoining rooms. Someone will be up in about a half hour to get you for your first massage."
"Thank you." Daphne took the key cards and handed me mine.
"Thanks."
"When are you due?"
"Almost 8 weeks." I had gotten used to the questions, and though they were still annoying, I comforted myself with the fact that I was soon going to give birth and no longer be pregnant. Then again, I guess that meant a lifetime of other questions.
"That's really close! Are you nervous?"
"Yeah. It's a baby. Who wouldn't be nervous?"
She laughed and smiled. "That's true. Is it a boy or a girl?"
I shrugged slightly. "I don't know. We decided we wanted it to be a surprise."
She looked between me and Daphne. "We?"
"No! No, she's my sister. My boyfriend's back home."
Something in her brain seemed to break a little bit. "Your... boyfriend?"
"Yeah. Boyfriend. Not married. Is that a prob-"
"Ok, Bay, I think we should let these guys put down our bags, let's go." She had to drag me away from the desk and to our rooms. "It is our relaxation weekend. No fighting. You're having a baby in 8 weeks."
"Yeah, yeah..." I mumbled. She wasn't facing me anyway, so clearly didn't care for my response.
We got to our rooms, and separated. I went into the room and smiled slightly. In the center in the room was a large, plush looking bed. There was a large television against the wall, sitting on top of a dresser. There was a small kitchen area, with a microwave, a small fridge, and a sink.
"Could you put my bag on the bed, please?"
"Of course, Miss." He set it down and left the room, gently shutting the door behind him.
I wasted no time in unpacking, putting clothes in various drawers, supplies in the bathroom, and scattering stuff over every available surface. I might have packed more than I needed.
With that done, I laid back on the bed and groaned slightly. Though I normally liked my bed at home, with my pregnant body, this bed felt about ten times better.
There was a knock on my door, and I reluctantly got up to open it. A woman stood, smiling in front of me. "It's time for your first massage. If you could get Miss Vasquez, please?"
I nodded and went back into my room, opening the adjoining door. I looked around to see Daphne sitting on her own bed. She had also unpacked, and her room was much tidier than my own. She probably hadn't packed too much.
I waved my arm to get her attention and pointed at her door.
"Time for the massage?"
"Exactly."
She stood, and I shut the door between our rooms before going out into the hallway.
...
"Oh, my god, that feels amazing."
Massages were officially my favorite thing in the world.
Every ache and pain in my back that had been untouchable for months seemed to be gone all at once. I didn't know if every massage felt like that, or if these people just knew exactly where to hit with the maternity massage. At first, when I walked into the room, I figured maternity massage just meant 'giant hole in the table'. Did it count more as a hole, or a dip? My belly fit comfortably in it, either way.
After the massage, we were sent into a sauna.
"What did you think?" Daphne asked.
"I want to live here."
She laughed. "Me, too."
"So, hey. Emmett and I thought of a middle name for a girl. If you like it."
"If I like it?"
"Yeah. We were thinking, maybe... Daphne."
She looked at me wide eyed for a moment. "Seriously?"
"Well, yeah. I mean, if not for you... None of this would have happened. We owe a lot to you. And, you know, we love you."
"I... Bay, I would be honored."
"Ok. Great. Then we have Daphne Bledsoe, so far. If it's a girl. And I still think I'm having a boy."
"When you say it by itself it sounds weird. What if it's a boy?"
"Oh, we actually have a first name for a boy! Luke."
"Ohh, little nephew Luke. I like it. It seems fitting, somehow."
"Doesn't it? Luke Bledsoe. Just no middle name."
"You still have 8 weeks to think of it."
...
For the entire weekend, we were completely pampered. We had various different massages, a mud bath, manicures and pedicures, anything you could think of. The dining room had mass meals served, and the food was always absolutely delicious. If I didn't have to leave, I never would.
I got into the car feeling light and carefree. Having a baby in 8 weeks? No problem, I can take it. Raising that baby for the next 18 years? Bring it on. I felt relaxed down to my very bones.
"Have I said thank you yet?"
"About a half hour ago. And every hour before that."
"That's because I really mean it. I needed this badly."
"And it's pretty much your last chance for awhile."
"Then I needed this extra badly."
"I'm... not sure that was grammatically correct."
"That's not my concern."
She laughed and turned up the music.
...
We got to my appointment right on time. I frowned slightly when Emmett wasn't there, but figured he may have forgotten it was today. It wasn't that big of a deal. I was only going to be here for maybe 15 minutes anyway.
It wasn't long until I was called back, and I motioned Daphne to follow me.
When Natalie came in, she paused slightly at the new person, but smiled. "Where's Emmett?"
"I don't know. Busy, maybe? This is my sister, Daphne."
"The famous Daphne! It's nice to meet you."
"We just got back from a spa weekend."
"How do you feel?"
"Completely wonderful."
"And the baby?"
"Active. I think he sees April getting closer."
She hummed, and took her measurements. As predicted, it didn't take long, and I had my next appointment scheduled.
Daphne and I made our way down to the car.
"I'm famous, am I?"
"She makes small talk at awkward times. So I talked about the switch."
She laughed and we got in, making our way home.
Brace yourselves.
