I passed off my finals to Emmett, and he put them in his bag.

"Done. I'm done. I officially have five weeks to myself without schoolwork, or a baby."

I had wanted to be done sooner, but considering everything that had happened, I would take what I could get.

'Not quite done. Remember you have to check in with my mom at the end of the week, to see if you passed everything.'

"I'm positive I passed."

'You still have to check in.'

"I don't feel like checking in counts as school. She mostly throws in school information while we're talking about something else. I still say I'm done."

He grinned slightly and kissed me. 'I'm glad you two are getting along so well, now.'

"Me, too. Could you imagine the lifetime of awkwardness ahead of us if she still didn't like me?"

He wrinkled his nose. 'I can imagine it. 'Why didn't you ever find a deaf girl?' Mom, we have a ten year old daughter.'

"Son."

'Daughter.'

"When I'm right, I'm going to mock you for it for the rest of our lives."

'The rest of our lives? You promise?'

I smiled slightly. "I do."

'Well, when I'm right, I'm going to be polite about it, seeing as you will have just been through labor. Just a simple I told you so.'

"Oh, just a simple one, huh?"

'Yeah. The doctor will say, 'It's a girl!', and I'll be very discreet about it. 'A girl, Bay, a girl.' And you'll know forever more that I was right, and you were wrong.'

"In your dreams."

'Exactly.'

I rolled my eyes, but the smile never once left my face. "Go to school. You're going to be late. Unlike some people, you're not done."

He rolled his eyes and gave me a final peck before leaving the room.

Once he was gone, I found myself at a loss of what to do. My schoolwork was all done. The nursery was done. I had gone so long without painting, that only drawing held no appeal. If I was going to do art, I wanted to be able to paint. Daphne and Toby were at school, Regina at work, Kathryn at some kind of meeting, and Angelo no longer lived here. I was actually alone in the house for the first time in a long time.

"Well, not completely alone, am I, Luke?"

On queue, the baby kicked. How was I going to do five weeks of this?

...

'How do you feel?'

"I'm fine, Melody, thanks."

We were at Regina's, sitting at the table. Regina was pouring herself a cup of coffee before coming over to join us.

'When's your next appointment?'

"In two days."

'Four weeks.'

"I know. I'm freaking out."

Regina nodded. "So was I."

Melody grinned slightly. 'Me, too.'

Regina fell silent for a moment before seeming to nod to herself. "Ok, so, I was thinking. You and Emmett and the baby, you're going to be your own family now. And Angelo and I are doing... really well. Better than I think we've ever been, really. So I was thinking that it might be a good idea for me to move in with Angelo. I've talked to Daphne about it already, and she could move into the main house, and then you three could live... here. Have kind of your own house and space without needing to worry about the big stuff. What do you think?"

That wasn't what I had expected her to say. "What?"

"It could give you your own place, where you could kind of start to make your own family rules, but you would still have help just a few feet away whenever you needed it."

"That... That would be... Are you sure?"

"Yeah, I am. If you want to."

"I... I mean, I do. That would be... Amazing. I'll tell Emmett. Thank you."

"I'm just glad I can help out. And I'll still be coming around a lot. It'll be like I never left."

"Thank you, Regina. Really."

"Of course. Now, Melody has something for you, too."

I raised my eyebrows and turned to her.

'You passed with flying colors. You have successfully completed the year. Congratulations.'

I smiled widely, and though I had been pretty sure I had passed, it was nice to get confirmation. "Thank you."

It didn't take long for us to turn to other topics, nothing else serious brought up again.

It was strange to think that I had made my way into the mom club.

...

I couldn't focus this appointment. I sat perched at the edge of my seat, just waiting to be called. Emmett rubbed small circles in the small of my back, an amused look in his eyes.

"We're getting so close. Four weeks, Emmett. Four weeks."

'I know.'

"I feel like you don't really know. In four weeks, I get to see my feet. I know they're down there. But I'll get to see them. And our baby. We'll get to see our baby."

'Are you trying to tell me you aren't nervous?'

"I'm trying not to focus on that part. I'm choosing to be excited. Are you not excited?"

'I am. I'm also nervous, though. And someone has to make sure you don't get too carried away.'

"Says the man with the baby clothes addiction."

'She's going to need something to wear!'

"He has stuff to wear. That doesn't stop you. At all. I think at this rate, he could get away with never wearing anything twice."

'I don't know, my mom has told me plenty of baby horror stories.'

"Which we can worry about in four weeks."

He grinned slightly and shook his head.

"Kennish?"

I pointed and Emmett got up, helping to pull me up. That was another thing. Soon, I would be able to get up on my own.

Every appointment ran pretty much the same, and I mostly just looked forward to talking to Natalie about the baby.

"How is everyone feeling today?" she asked when she came in.

"Tired. But good. Four more weeks."

"This time next month, you might not be pregnant."

"Those are magical words."

I automatically laid back and pulled up my shirt, and she started her exam.

"Any changes?"

"No, not really. He's not kicking so much as kind of squirming, I think. But that makes sense, right?"

"Absolutely. Baby's pretty much out of room in there, no space to kick... Feels like they're getting into position nicely."

"Good. Way to go, little guy."

The appointment went on as usual, and as always, Natalie asked us if we had any questions. I shook my head, but Emmett raised his hands.

'What happens if she goes into labor in the middle of the night?'

I interpreted, the thought making me take pause. I hadn't even thought of that as a possibility.

"I'll be on call for you guys. Bay has my number, so when she goes into labor, make sure they get it. They'll call me, and I'll be on my way immediately. Alright?"

He nodded slightly. 'Thank you.'

"Anything else?"

"I... don't think so?" I looked at Emmett and he shook his head. "Nope. Thank you."

"I'll see you next week."

Grinning, I went out to schedule the appointment.
