Chapter 16
Jake was in such a frantic that he jumped out of the car before Wyatt had parked the car. When he got inside he spotted his mom sitting down in a chair with her face in her hands.
"Mom, where's Sam?" Jake asked as he kneeled down in front of her.
"This way," Maxine said getting up.
"Is she alright?" Jake asked as he followed his mom.
"Yes, she's just been asking for you is all."
"And the baby?"
Maxine didn't say anything else as she led Jake to Sam's room. When he got there he rushed in and grabbed Sam's hand before sitting down next to her. She was asleep, but a small smile spread on her lips as Jake squeezed her hand.
"Jake?" Sam whispered waking up.
"I'm right here Brat."
"I'm sorry," she said before she winced.
"Mrs. Ely," the doctor said coming into the room, "I'm glad to tell you that your baby is fine, however, you can't overwork yourself. Therefore I want you to be on bed rest until the baby is born. As for your ankle it looks like you fractured it when you fell."
"Can she come home today?" Jake asked.
"I want her to stay the night just to make sure that there are no internal injuries."
"Can Jake stay with me?" Sam asked.
"Sure."
The next day Sam huffed as Jake carried her up to their bedroom. She was mad that the hospital didn't give her crutches to use since she was supposed to be on bed rest. Jake just groaned as she crossed her arms. The doctor told her that she wasn't allowed to do anything except rest. Sam started to ask if that meant no cooking or going anywhere by herself.
"Sam just calm down, and think about how nice it will be to have everyone wait on you for the next three months," Jake said.
"But that means I can't interact with the horses," Sam pouted.
"Just be glad that both you and the baby are fine," he said kissing her head.
"You're right, but I'm really hungry."
Jake tucked her into their bed before asking, "What do you want?"
"Well, I'm in the mood for some tacos, or and chocolate pudding," Sam said clapping her hands.
"I'll go make you some."
"Wait you forgot something," Sam whined.
"What?" Jake asked walking back over to her.
"This?" Sam said and gripped his shirt pulling him to her to kiss him.
Jake rolled his eyes at her before kissing her again. As he was making the tacos he heard a thump come from upstairs. He turned the stove off before heading up the stairs. When he walked into the room he saw Sam on the floor.
"What happened?" he asked picking her up.
Sam's face reddened into a deep blush as she said, "I have to pee, and thought I could possibly get there on my own. I didn't realize how hard it would be though."
"That's why you're supposed to be on bed rest." Jake said as he took her inside the bathroom.
"This is so embarrassing."
"It's not as if I haven't seen it before."
"Will you just wait for me outside the bathroom?"
He did what she asked and waited for her to give him the okay to come back in. Sam was still blushing as he carried her back to their bed. This time however she didn't let go. Tears were streaming down her face as she clung to Jake. Sighing, Jake shifted her so that she was sitting in his lap.
"What is it Brat?" he whispered kissing her hair.
"I just can't believe I did this," she cried. "If only I was more careful none of this would have happened."
"Hey, it's okay. And no matter what could have happened I would still love you."
"I love you too," Sam said before she kissed him.
