He stands there, then walks away
My God, if I could only say
I'm holding every breath for you
"Here we are." He murmured, pulling up outside the red brick building. To be honest, he had said it so quietly, I almost didn't hear him. He had been quiet for most of the journey, not at all like the Tom I knew, the one that talked and talked without even pausing to think about what he was going to say next. I assumed that it was because of Sofie, but when I'd tried to bring it up, he dismissed her, almost as if she were a one night stand, no one important at all.
"So.." I started, and he gave me a slight smile. "You sure you're alright?" I pressed one last time, but he just nodded.
"Promise, babe. I'll get over it, I'll maybe even get over this girl that's been driving me insane." He didn't look like he meant any of that, but I nodded anyway. "You better get in, you'll be late." The engine came to a stop. "I'll be a gentleman and walk you to the door." He offered, but I shook my head.
"You don't have-"
"Yeah, but I want to." He insisted, and relenting, I grabbed my bag and got out the car.
He took my bag from my shoulder and took my hand. Glancing down at our intertwined fingers, it took all my strength to keep walking. He didn't seem to notice the expression on my face. Either that or he didn't care what he was doing to me. After what seemed like an eternity, we stopped outside the doors to the studio, and he turned to me.
"I'll pick you up tonight, alright?" It was more of a statement that a question, but I answered "OK" all the same. Placing my bag over my shoulder, I stared into his eyes, and for a moment it seemed like it was only us in the secluded car park.
"Have fun today, alright?" He practically whispered, and I nodded, mesmerised by his deep dark eyes. "Don't worry about me, I'll be fine. Promise." Again, I nodded, and he kissed me on the forehead, his lips feeling soft against my skin. I almost moved my head so our lips touched, but I couldn't do it. I had suddenly become so aware of my surroundings, that I let go of his hand and turned towards the door.
"I better..." I started.
"Yeah, you better. See you in a few hours." He replied, turning towards the car, and I watched him get in before heading through the doors, wishing that I could tell him what I wanted to. That I held my breath when he spoke to me, hoping that he would say one of the things I was longing to hear. That he would tell me that girl that was "driving him crazy" was me and that he was going to stop being such a player and be with me forever.
But I knew it was crazy, and that's why I couldn't tell him that.
