Sorry it took so long to get this chapter out. I had some difficulty with the babies being born but I hope I wrote to your liking. It was an emotional chapter for me. It might not be for you but it was for me. I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it. Sincerely, KimVaughan
Soul Mates
Chapter 41
Will and Sonny had decided to sit in the waiting room to wait for Gabi to come out of surgery instead of in the viewing room.
Will was still sitting in Sonny's lap asleep when the doctor finally came out to them. "Will and Sonny Horton-Kiriakis." He called out their names, looking for them. Will stood up immediately and they walked over to the doctor.
"We're Will and Sonny. How is Gabi doing? And the twins?" Sonny asked.
"Ms. Fallon is doing just great. She lost quite a bit of blood but she's going to be just fine. As for the twins, they are both very small but they were far enough along that they're not too small. Would you like to go see your son and daughter?" the doctor asked Sonny and he started to cry.
"My husband and I would love to go see our twins." Will answered for Sonny. "Doc, how long will they have to stay in the hospital?"
"We'll play it by ear and see how fast they improve. It could be anywhere from several to several months. Are the twins your first children?" asked the doctor.
"No, sir. We have a daughter as well. She's almost a year and a half. Actually, Gabi is her mom too."
"So you've use Ms. Fallon as a surrogate before?"
"Not really. Before Sonny and I got together, Gabi and I conceived Arianna. When we got married, she allowed Sonny to adopt Ari so now we are her legal parents whereas Gabi and I are her biological parents."
"Well, one of the main ingredients in raising kids these days is love and it seems that the two of you have an abundance of love to give three children. Why don't we go see you twins?" the doctor led them to where the twins had been taken as soon as they were born.
The second Will saw them, he saw that they both had dark chocolate brown hair and he knew almost immediately that Sonny was their biological dad but he kept his thoughts to himself.
"They are so gorgeous. Aren't they gorgeous Will?" Sonny asked, drawing him out of his thoughts.
"Yes, they are." Will pulled Sonny in close for a kiss right there in front of the doctor, not letting what the doctor thought bother him.
"Would y'all like to hold your son and daughter?"
"Yes."
"Do you have names for them?" the nurse asked as she got Sonny ready to hold their son.
"Yes. His name is Jackson Robert and her name is Sophie Caroline."
"Those are beautiful names. You'll have to hold them inside this bubble because they're not quite able to breathe completely on their own yet. Give them a couple of weeks and you'll be holding them in your arms with nothing between you and them."
"Thank you." Sonny walked up their son, slid his arms inside the sleeves and picked up his fragile little boy. "Hello there big man. You don't know how blessed you and your sister have made your daddy and me. I haven't talked to daddy about it but I kind of want to call you JR. I know that sounds like we're calling you junior but your initials are J and R. you don't look like a Jack or a Robert so I think JR is the perfect name for you. And in a way, you are a junior. You're a Jackson Junior and a Robert Junior. We'll discuss it at a later date, like when you come home." Sonny could hear laughter coming from behind him.
He looked over his shoulder as his husband who was standing there holding their daughter while listening to him talk to their son. "What are you laughing at?" he asked.
"Baby, I don't think JR can understand you right now. He's like five hours old. As long as you keep him changed, fed and held, I don't think he cares what we call him."
"Having the perfect name for your child is important even if they are only five hours old."
"Fine. We'll call him JR. we don't have to wait for his permission. Did you really want people to call you Sonny?"
"No. my own parents didn't want to call me Sonny. Mom called me Jackson until I begged her to stop. Then she tried called me Steven but that just didn't work. It's rough when you're named after your two uncles, Jack and Steve."
"Don't worry about it. JR will like his name, I promise. Are we going to call this little bundle of sunshine, Sophie or Caroline or both?"
"I don't know. I'll leave that up to you. Whatever you decide, I'll support your decision."
"Since we already have a live Caroline, why don't we call her Sophie? Do you think that would bother Uncle Victor?"
"I don't think so. I think he would be honored to have his great-great-niece going by his mom's name."
"Okay daddies, it's time to let the little ones rest. Being born is hard work, even if it's done by C-section. They need as much rest as possible."
Will and Sonny place JR and Sophie back in their cribs and started to walk out of the room. They decided to go see Gabi and thank her for giving them three of the most beautiful children in the world.
They walked into Gabi's room hand in hand, smiling from ear to ear. As soon as she heard them walk into the room, she turned to look at them.
"Have you seen them?" she asked. Will could tell that she was tired from giving birth.
"Yes, we have. We won't stay long because we know you're tired. We just wanted to say thank you Gabi."
"You don't have to thank me." She started crying.
"What's wrong?"
"Joey was in here earlier and I told him that I want to get pregnant as soon as the doctor gives me the okay. Having the twins for you has made me want to have a family."
"Gabriella Hernandez, you already have a family. What are we? You have three beautiful children and their daddies."
"Arianna's not mine any more than those two little ones I just gave birth too. Ari was yours and Sonny's from the get go and I'm okay with that. I wasn't able to be a mom to her. Not mentally or physically. That's why I'm glad Sonny stepped up and took my place. He loves her more than his own life. Now he has two more precious bundles of joy that he would lay down his life for. I can't be a part of something when it's already complete."
"What do you mean Gabi?"
"I think you know what I'm saying Will. You, Sonny, Ari and the twins are a family. There's no room for me. Y'all are complete. You don't need me now. You have the family that you wanted and I am happy that I was able to give it to you. Raise them with love and don't ever let someone like my ex-husband tell you that it's wrong to love someone. Thank you for letting me be a small part of the making of the Horton-Kiriakis family. It was my honor."
By this time, all three of them were crying because it felt like Gabi was saying goodbye and Will didn't know if he could say goodbye to his best friend.
"I will always love you Gabriella Hernandez. Sonny might be my soul mate and my other half but you are my best friend in the entire world and I will never forget you. Every time I look at our children, I will say a thank you and a bless you to you for everything you did for me and Sonny." Will leaned down and kissed her on the lips.
"Thank you Gabi. That's really all I can say to the woman who gave me my family." Sonny leaned down and hugged her neck. "Now it's your turn for happiness." Sonny grabbed Will's hand and led him out of her hospital room.
