AN: I was given the prompt 'Lily telling James she's pregnant' and this is what came out of it. Enjoy.

"I'm just saying that if he's going to try and park it on a roof, he should at least aim for a flat one," said Lily, kicking off her shoes upon entering her home.

"And all I'm saying," said James, locking the front door behind them, "is that you're not his mother. It's not your job to worry about him."

"This is the second time we've come home from St. Mungo's after midnight because he's almost killed himself."

James led the way to the kitchen.

"I just don't want you to get worked up over it," said James, taking two mugs from the cupboard. "It's not like he can't take care of himself."

"Yes, I suppose he can," she murmured.

As James faffed around with the teabags, Lily sat herself down at the kitchen table, bringing her knees up to her chin.

"Anyway I think we're missing the point of the evening," said James, seemingly unaware that his wife was hardly listening. "If we hadn't had to go to the hospital to put Sirius' knee back in place, we'd never have seen the man whose face was more wart that skin. I mean, I've seen drawings…" he trailed off as he turned to see Lily's head buried in her knees. "You alright?"

Her lack of reply caused James to assume she had fallen asleep. It had, after all, been a very long night. However, when James arrived at the table with a mug of tea in each hand, he noticed she was fiddling with her socks.

"Lily?" he said.

She looked up suddenly, her eyes unnaturally red. "Sorry, what?" she asked. "Oh, tea. How lovely."

James watched her cautiously as he set down the mugs and took his seat opposite her. Lily didn't say another word until what was left of her tea went cold.

"James," she said slowly, "would it be okay if I told you something?"

"It would be highly encouraged. Why? What's wrong?" he asked, not particularly excelling in hiding his concern.

She shook her head. "No, it's not like that."

"What is it like?"

Despite the tea, Lily's mouth went very dry.

"Lily?" he prompted.

"It's just," she paused. "I'm having trouble finding the words."

"Sorry, take your time."

Lily sighed, staring very hard at the inside of her mug. "Okay," she said. "Okay, here's the thing."

James leaned forwards and took Lily's hands in his own.

"Okay," she said again, looking up to meet James' eye directly. "We're having a baby."
