Past Meets Present

First of all I want to say Happy New Year.

Second this chapter has been redone over 7 times, I wanted to make it right before I put it out there and I'm finally happy with this version and I hope you all will be too.

So Enjoy.

He sat at the bar waiting, it had been a long time since Klaus had seen the person he was waiting for and honestly he had planned on avoiding anyone from his old life for the duration of his families trip to London.

But he had only been in London for 3 days and his return along with his families hadn't gone unnoticed especially by those he wanted to keep away

'Nikklaus Mikaelson, I heard the rumours couldn't believe it was true until I got your call'.

He turned to face the familiar voice that he had heard in almost 9 years to find that person wasn't alone but with two other men that he had never seen before.

'Marcel it's good to see you again'.

He replied rising from his chair with a smile to embrace him.

'You know if I knew that you would be back in town, I would have thrown you a welcome home party'.

Marcel told Klaus as they sat at a table with his two friends who didn't introduce themselves but just stared at Klaus like they where waiting for something.

Under normal circumstances Klaus would have been uncomfortable with their stares but he knew what this was.

Marcel used to be one of them once upon time back when Klaus was the one doing all the talking.

'I'm not staying, I'm here with my family to see my grandfather and other family and then I'm heading on back'.

'It's shame, London hasn't been the same without you, but life goes on speaking of how is life?'

Marcel asked as he took a sip of his drink.

'Life is good, I got married and I have a daughter'.

'Married with a kid that was unexpected I didn't think you would trust another women after the number that you got pulled on you'.

'I certainly didn't plan on getting married after what she did but I met a someone special and she changed everything'.

Marcel chuckled.

'I'm glad to hear that Silas will be glad to hear that too, you should know that he was offended that you didn't contact him and let him know that your back, the legend returns after 9 years'.

'I'm sure you'll tell him that I meant him no offence'.

'Of course, still can't believe your here I learned all my best tricks from you, you know your names legend amongst the likes of these two, the stories they've heard about you that's why I brought em along to meet the legend in person'.

He looked the two guys that had followed him and Klaus looked at them.

'He don't seem like much of a legend to me, just another married man'.

'Excuse me'.

Klaus snapped at the one who spoke and Marcel put his hand on Klaus's shoulder.

'Ignore him, his mouth gets him into more trouble than he's worth, get out of here both of you'.

The man nodded as he stood up looking at Klaus who stared coldly at the man who looked away uncomfortably as he walked away.

'So your still working for Silas after all this time, thought you would have got out opened that club you always wanted'.

'I got my club abattoir and then I bought another one opening night is in a couple of weeks, you should come by bring the wife I'd love to meet her I can only imagine how stunning she must be'.

Marcel paused looking at Klaus had tensed in his seat at Marcel's words.

'Calm down, I was only joking trust me I learned not to get on your bad side years ago and as for Silas I don't work for him anymore I help him out from time to time and vice versa, it's a mutually beneficial partnership besides I was never his favourite that was always you'.

Stefan sat in the Lydia and Noah's room reading to the little princess to Lydia as she sucked her thumb contently staring up at him as he read to her, while Noah slept peacefully in his cot.

When he heard the doorbell ring, closing the book as he picked up Lydia glancing at Noah to make sure the noise hadn't woken.

Turning on the baby monitor before leaving the room, heading downstairs to open the door.

He opened the door to find a women standing there.

'You must be Stefan'.

She asked and he nodded.

'I am, sorry have we met?'.

She laughed and shook her head.

'No but Rebekah mentioned how handsome you are, honestly she didn't do you enough justice, I'm her aunt Charlotte'.

'Oh, it's nice to meet you, come in sorry'.

He stepped aside to let her into the house and she smiled warmly at him as he turned to face her after closing the door.

'I'm sorry Rebekah isn't here, she's out shopping'.

Charlotte nodded.

'That's fine is Elijah here'.

Stefan nodded and was about to call out for Elijah when he walked out of the study and smiled at his aunt.

'Charlotte'.

He walked over to her and embraced her warmly chuckling as he did.

'I expected you to visit on our first day here'.

He told her as he stepped back and smiled.

'I thought it be best I leave you to settle in before I arrive, it's so good to see you, it's been too long'.

Elijah nodded.

'It has, unfortunately Rebekah,Kol and Nikklaus aren't here'.

'Well I'll be seeing them tonight but I need to talk to you but first of all would this sweet girl be Nikklaus's daughter'.

Elijah nodded as Charlotte touched Lydia's cheek much to her delight as she let out a small laugh which made Charlotte and Stefan laugh.

'She's beautiful'.

'She gets that from her mother'.

Elijah replied.

'Can I get you a drink?'.

Elijah asked as Charlotte followed him and Stefan into the living room who sat down with Lydia.

'No I'm fine, I can't stay long I have to make sure everything is perfect for tonight, it's my father's 80th birthday'.

'Always the perfectionist, so what is that you want to discuss'.

He asked as he sat down next to her.

'I thought I should warn you that Mikael and Esther will be gracing my father with their presences tonight.

She called Ava who wasn't best pleased and with your own history with your parents I thought it best I warn for Klaus sake most of all I know how despicable my sister and that man where towards him and I don't wish to cause him any further pain or the rest of you'.

Stefan looked at Charlotte as she sighed and took Elijah's hand as he didn't say a word.

'Ava and myself would understand if you don't want to attend tonight's celebrations, I wouldn't blame you, my father would understand too'.

Elijah shook his head at her words.

'No the reason we are here is him, we will not miss his birthday party because of them we have missed too much already, I refuse to let their attendance stop us being their for him, I will inform my siblings and tonight we will do our best to keep Mikael especially away from Nikklaus'.

Charlotte nodded and then looked towards Lydia.

'That child doesn't need her father to lose himself again'.

'Nikklaus is stronger because of her and Caroline'.

'I'm so glad to hear that, I'll leave you now but tonight I hope to meet the special lady in your life'.

Elijah nodded and smiled as Charlotte.

'I look forward to introducing her too'.

'Stefan it was a pleasure hopefully we will get the chance to talk more later this evening'.

Charlotte said to Stefan who smiled.

'I hope so too'.

She kissed his cheek and Lydia's before walking out of the living room with Elijah behind who.

Embracing her once more as he opened the door for her, watching as she walked to her car and then he closed the door.

Rejoining Stefan in the leaving room who put Lydia down on her play mat.

'Your worried?'.

Elijah nodded as his niece crawled in his direction and he picked her up and looking at her.

'Yes Mikael still effects him to this day, when he found out Caroline was pregnant he came to me concerned that he wouldn't be good enough father to his child.

That he would treat his own child the same way Mikael treated him, it was and will always be his biggest fear that he will become our father'.

'Rebekah told me how he used to treat him, I could never understand why he would treat Klaus so differently to the rest of you.

Our role as parents is love our child regardless not to break them down at any given moment'.

Elijah nodded in agreement.

'Nikklaus could never do anything right by Mikael, he was always trying to seek his approval.

My brother was always so loving and all he wanted was for Mikael to love him but he was incapable of showing love towards him nothing that Nikklaus did was ever good enough.

The only time Nikklaus was safe was when he was with Henrik, Mikael never raised his hand to him when Henrik was around but he would to the rest of us and after Henrik died it was the beatings and the abuse became unbearable.

Rebekah would turn her music up louder to block out the sounds of his screams and Kol would stay away just to avoid it and I was in university I couldn't do anything when Rebekah would call me in tears while in the background I could hear him pleading for Mikael to stop'.

Rebekah had never told Stefan about this part of her life before.

'What was the breaking point for you?'.

'The breaking point for me was the evening my first week home after Henrik's death, I came home to an empty house.

Mikael wasn't home but the evidence that he had been was obvious'.

Elijah passed his brother's room, he heard the sound of winching and crying.

He paused putting his bag down and knocked the door, turning the handle to find the door was locked from the inside.

'Nikklaus'.

He knocked calling his brother's name, he heard movement from the other side of the door as Klaus unlocked the door and then turned away as Elijah opened the door to find the room bathed in darkness.

'Nikklaus'.

He asked turning the light on as Klaus turned away from it pulling a hood over his head as if to hide his face.

Elijah approached him and put his hand on his shoulder only for Klaus to flinch away from his touch.

'Brother what has happened?'.

Elijah asked as Klaus turned to face him looking down at the floor, it was then Elijah noticed the bloodstained t-shirt that Klaus had tried to hide and he forced his brother to look at him.

'His face was bruised like nothing I had ever seen before and it broke me to see him like that.

I called Charlotte and I told her what had happened she came immediately for Klaus and took him to our grandfather's and I waited for Kol and Rebekah to return and told them to pack up and they did without question and they went to join Nikklaus at our grandfather's.

While I waited for our parents to return and when they did I lashed out and punched Mikael and then turned to my mother and asked how she could stand by and let Mikael do that to Klaus and she didn't respond and I couldn't see that she didn't care but she showed concern when I told her that Rebekah and Kol wouldn't be returning, that was the breaking point for me.

I put my study on hold to be close to my brother to protect him but he pushed us away, he became lost to this dark place, he would stay out for hours and come home with bruises on his face or blood on his hands, nobody asked questions but it was hard to watch my brother fall apart.

I would wake up at night and hear him screaming for Mikael to stop, it was torture to be in the house and he must have realised that because he started staying home less and less until we had no idea where he spent most of his nights'.

Stefan never having heard this side to his friends life, now found himself deeply worried.

'Do you thinking seeing your parents will send him back to that place?'.

Elijah sighed his eyes focusing on Lydia who was staring at her uncle, tears had developed in her eyes as if she knew that something was going to happen and he wiped away a tear as he rolled down her cheek.

'I hope not for her sake'.

'Bonnie Bennett look at you'.

Caroline said as Bonnie walked into the store Caroline and Rebekah had been shopping with Elena.

Bonnie smiled running her hand through her shorter hair and smiled.

'Thanks, I hope Kol likes it'.

'Likes it, he's going to love it you look hot and speaking of hot I may have found you the sexiest dress ever'.

Caroline told her friend with a smile and Bonnie looked as Caroline handed her a dress while pushing her in the direction of the changing room where Rebekah was standing waiting for Elena to come out.

'Come on Elena let me see it?'.

Rebekah called out to Elena while tapping her foot against the floor.

'Give me a minute I'm having trouble with the zip'.

Elena called back as she finally got the zip to pull up and then pulled back the curtain to reveal herself to her friends.

'Speaking of hot, Elena you look incredible'.

Bonnie exclaimed as Elena looked at herself in the full length mirror smoothing out the material of the dress.

'I'm not sure do you think Elijah will like it?'.

She asked looking at her friends who stared back at her as if she was insane.

'He's not going to know what hit him when he sees you in this'.

Rebekah told her and Elena looked at her reflection again.

'I just really want him to like it'.

Caroline smiled at her friends nervousness.

'He will speaking of people liking dress Bonnie get in there'.

'Fine'.

Bonnie stuck her tongue out at Caroline as she slipped in the dressing room next to Elena's as Elena walked back into get changed.

While Rebekah and Caroline went back out into the boutique.

Caroline was looking at other dresses with her own choice draped over her arm while Rebekah was staring at a ring.

When she felt someone staring at her and looked up to find herself looking back at someone she didn't want to see.

'Rebekah Mikaelson'.

'Sage I'd say I'm happy to see you but we both know I'd be lying'.

'Sweetie we are practically family'.

'Finn is not my family and neither are you'.

Sage rolled her eyes at Rebekah.

'Still as bitchy as ever I see'.

Neither of them spoke as Caroline approached and stood by Rebekah looking at Sage who stared back at her.

'Rebekah is everything okay?'.

She asked and Rebekah nodded.

'Fine, Caroline this is Sage my brother Finn's wife unfortunately that makes her our sister in law'.

Sage looked at Caroline.

'Our sister in law, let me guess your Kol's wife he always had a thing for the dumb pretty ones'.

Caroline scoffed at Sage's words.

'For your information I'm not dumb, I graduated 1st in my class and secondly I'm married to Klaus not Kol'.

Sage's eyes widen at Caroline's words as a smirk crossed her lips.

'Your married to Klaus, that I didn't expect well I guess I will be seeing you both tonight and Klaus'.

'Your not coming to my grandfather's party?.

Rebekah sounded almost disgusted at the thought while Sage nodded.

'Of course he's my family too, it would be rude not to attend'.

Without another word she walked out of the boutique leaving Rebekah stunned as Caroline looked after retreating form and then back at Rebekah.

'I don't like her'.

'Nobody likes her well expect Finn but then he never did have the best taste in women'.

Klaus was heading upstairs when Elijah walked out of the living and called to his brother.

'Can I have a word?'.

Klaus nodded as he turned around to join his brother who closed the door behind them.

'Elijah you seem stressed'.

Klaus told him as he sat down.

'Charlotte came by, Esther and Mikael will be at the party tonight'.

Elijah watched as fear crept into Klaus's eyes.

He didn't speak silently rising from his seat and walked over to the bar to pour himself a drink.

Elijah would have said something but under the circumstances he knew better than to question his brother especially at that moment.

With his back turned to the concerned eyes of his brother.

As he picked up a decanter, he could feel the tremor in his hand and closed his eyes.

'Nikklaus"

Mikael yelled as he stormed into Klaus's room, his breath strong with alcohol.

Klaus stood up surprised by his father and quickly closed his sketchbook but it was too late as Mikael grabbed the book from his hands and opened it scoffing as he tore page after page out.

'Father please'.

Klaus yelled as Mikael continued to destroy his work only stopping when he came to a drawing Klaus had done of himself and his siblings.

'Out of all my children you will remain my biggest disappointment'.

Mikael yelled as he stormed over to Klaus and shoved him violently against his desk, his back hitting the edge making him wince in pain not that Mikael cared as he pulled him to his feet.

'Tell me why exactly I let you live in this house'.

'I'm your son'.

Klaus responded he knew he shouldn't have answered but he did and that earned him a smile and then a punch to the stomach and then another.

He lost count of the punches until Mikael walked out of the room leaving him trembling on the floor as he gathered up his torn drawings, smoothing them out to stare at them.

He heard footsteps and quickly gathered up the pages as the footsteps got closer to his room.

Shoving the pages under his mattress as the door opened.

Looking up to find Rebekah staring at him as tears freely rolled down his face, she stepped into the room as he started to wipe the tears away, there was always the likeliness that Mikael would come back and he beat him more when he cried.

He could see the sadness in Rebekah's eyes as she came to join him on the floor looking at the evidence of Mikael's destruction and took his hand.

'Nik'.

'Nikklaus'.

Klaus shook his head and opened his eyes turning to face Elijah.

'Are you okay?'.

'I'm fine, I have to get ready'.

He silently walked out of the room and upstairs not evening noticing Stefan as he passed him.

'Bonnie Bennett, I must you look stunning'.

Kol told Bonnie as turned around to look at him.

'You don't look to bad yourself Mr Mikaelson'.

She told him as she wrapped her arms around his neck, staring into his eyes.

Smiling as he leaned into kiss her, sighing softly against his lips as he ran his hands down her sides.

He pulled back his eyes running down her body, hers doing the same to his.

They hadn't been together in so long and now all they wanted to do was be together.

'Kol'.

She whispered his name softly as he brought his lips back to hers.

As she ran her hand down his chest unbuttoning his shirt, her hand running across his chest as his lips moved to her neck.

He gazed down at her as he ran his fingers across her skin, his fingers trailing across her ribs as if he was playing piano.

His hand finding hers as he pressed his lips to hers, a soft moan in his ears as he held her leg against his hip.

'I love you'

Before Bonnie, Kol's relationships where a string of meaningless flings and one night stands.

He never saw Bonnie than anything more than his little sisters friend but then she went to college and when she came back she wasn't the same girl he remembered and all thoughts of meaningless flings left his mind.

It took him a while to prove to her that he had changed but when he did finally prove himself to her.

She still wouldn't let herself get close to him scared that he would see her as nothing more than a fling but he didn't see her that way.

Being with her was different it meant something to him, he had always said that he would never get tied down to one woman but Bonnie had changed that.

He only wanted to be with her.

'Can you help me?'.

Elena asked turning to look at Elijah holding her necklace out to him and he nodded as he took the necklace from her, watching as she twisted her hair up holding it up so that he could do her necklace.

Pressing a kiss to the nape of neck as he smoothed out the necklace and she smiled as she turned to face him.

'Why is the 20's loved but most of your family Klaus,Rebekah and grandfather'.

'Rebekah and Nikklaus's love for the 20's comes from my grandfather, it was the decade he was born and while he was child for most of the 20's, he used to tell us about the parties his parents used to the throw in the height of prohibition.

Charles William Master and Louise Lydia Brooks Masters, my great grandparents loved a party which is how they first met.

Louise caught Charles attention one evening at a party she shouldn't have been attending but then she was never one to do as expected of her.

She was a wild one even as she got older, she was loving and vibrant women'.

He smiled fondly which Elena noticed.

'Sadly she is no longer with us but she lived a her life, she had four children who she encouraged to live their lives the way wanted.

Words she repeated to myself and Finn, I was four at the time with no understanding of death all I remember at the time was that one day she was no longer with us and then Charles followed after her a year later a month after Nikklaus was born'.

He went quiet for a moment composing his thoughts and then he looked at her.

'She would have adored you'.

'I doubt that Katherine is the wild one, she doesn't do the expected'.

'You underestimate yourself Elena, your not the wallflower you think you are well at least not to me'.

He placed a peck to her lips as he picked up his jacket smoothing it out before putting it on.

Caroline walked out of the room to find Klaus staring at nothing.

'How do I look?'.

She asked staring at him but he didn't even look at her.

'I'm not wearing underwear'.

She said to him thinking it would get his attention but he didn't even glance towards her.

She bit her lip as she sat beside him putting her hand on his leg which made him jump as he finally looked at her.

'What's going on?'.

She asked him and he didn't answer but looked away from her and all she could do was stare at him as he closed his eyes tightly and let out a deep breath.

She could feel his leg shaking and she squeezed his hand.

'Klaus'.

She moved so that she was in front of him and put her hands on his face making him look at her.

'Have I done something wrong?'.

She asked and he shook his head at her.

'No,sorry I'm distracted you look beautiful'.

She smiled but still knows something going on with him.

'Tell me what's wrong?'.

He looked at her and sighed.

'My parents are going to be at the party tonight, I haven't seen them or thought about them in years and tonight they will be there, he will be there, he will be near you'.

His voice was low.

'Okay, if you see them I want you to focus on me and only me and I'll make you forget they are there, I'll be your beautiful distraction for the night'.

She smiled and he couldn't help but smile back.

'Your more than a distraction to me'.

'I know but tonight I want to be the only thing in the room you notice not them because they aren't worth it not now, not ever.

Your better than both of them and you don't need them in your life and I know your scared but I won't let him get to you, I love you too much to let him hurt you again, okay'.

Klaus nodded as he leaned into kiss her, his hand on her waist as she moved closer to him, her hands on his face.

'I love you'.

He whispers as he pulls back.

'Love you back'.

She smiles kissing him again.

Rebekah watched as Stefan tucked the girls into bed and kissed them goodnight closing the door behind him as he looked at his wife.

'You look nervous?'.

She told him as she fixed his tie.

'I'm not nervous, are you okay with seeing your parents again'.

'No but tonight isn't about them, tonight I want to celebrate my grandfather's life with my family and dance with the man I love, I know my mum wants us to forgive and forget to rebuild those bridges she burnt down along time ago but I can't let her back in I hate her for what she did to my brother and I will never forgive her, honestly I want to forget them'.

She smiled as she tapped his chest and then laughing as Kol and Bonnie walked out of their room noticing how dishevelled Kol's hair was.

'I take you liked the dress?'.

She asked with an raised eyebrow while Bonnie looked down embarrassed.

'I liked a lot more than the dress'.'.

He replied with a smirk as he kissed Bonnie's cheek while Stefan and Rebekah laughed.

'The cars are here'.

Elijah called from downstairs as Caroline and Klaus walked out of their room hand in hand, looking back at their family and friends.

'Nik'.

Klaus smiled at his sister as she embraced him and smiled.

'You okay?'.

She whispered and he nodded glancing at Caroline and smiled.

'I'm okay'.

The next chapter will take place at the party and what is a party without a punch being thrown, a love declaration and dash of smut.

Until next time enjoy, review, favourite and read.
