'Yes I understand but given my personal reasons isn't there somebody else who could do this?'.
Caroline snapped as she paced back and forth in the garden as she spoke to Olivia.
'Caroline, Helena is running a business and she has left me in charge.
Now I could call her while she is on her honeymoon and tell her that you are refusing to work for a client'.
'I'm not refusing'.
Caroline cut in but Olivia clearly wasn't finished.
'A client who personally requested you due to the fact that a long time ago you dated her son and things ended badly.
I don't think she'd be impressed do you, now I'm sorry that once upon a time you went out with her son and he broke your heart but this isn't high school it's your job'.
Caroline let out a frustrated sigh as she listened to Olivia's patronising voice.
'Fine'.
'I'm glad we've understood each other'.
She could also imagine Olivia's smug face smiling as she said that.
'I'm going to email her now with your contact information, I'm sure she can't wait to hear from you'.
'Can you please include in the email that I will be unavailable until the 8th, I am on holiday even though you seemed to have forgotten that'.
Caroline reminded her for the fourth time she since she called her asking her, when she was planning on contacting Carol Lockwood.
'I'm so sorry but we have to get a move on with this account working with Mrs Lockwood is only going to bring us such much needed publicity but I will be sure to inform her not to contact you until you return from your trip'.
'Thank you'.
Caroline replied hanging up before Olivia had a chance to say anything else.
Running her hands through her hair, sighing as she turned around to find Rebekah standing behind her with two cups of coffee, handing one to Caroline who smiled.
'Thank you, I need this'.
She smiled as they walked over to the table and sat down.
'Who was on the phone'.
Rebekah asked taking a sip of her coffee.
'Olivia, our favourite person'.
She replied with a look of disgust which made Rebekah laugh.
'Oh what did she want?'.
'To remind me that she's in charge while Helena is on honeymoon and that I am no longer in high school'.
'Trouble at work I take it?'.
'Understatement, Carol Lockwood requested me to plan a party for her'.
Caroline replied looking at as Rebekah looked at her in shock.
'Carol Lockwood'.
'Yes the mother of my ex who once hated me and now wants to work with me, I can't get out if it, I don't know what I'm supposed to do'.
Caroline looked down shaking her head and then looked up to find Rebekah smiling at her.
'I'm sorry my work drama amuses you'.
'It doesn't amuse me but Caroline you are on holiday, your not supposed to be stressed about work especially when you don't have to face work for another 18 days when you're on holiday, so my suggestion to you is let Carol Lockwood be your problem in 18 days and right now enjoy your time with your family'.
She told Caroline who smiled and nodded.
'Your right, I have 18 days to live a Carol Lockwood free life and then when I don't, you are going to pour the biggest glass of red wine and tell me that I'm doing this for my career'.
Rebekah nodded and laughed.
'I'll pour you two'.
"The most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or touched, they are felt with the heart."
Klaus had come to the nursery to get Lydia ready for the day but had stopped when he saw that Lexi had dragged a giant cushion through from the room she shared with her sister into the babies' nursery and was reading the little prince to Lydia who gazed at her cousin with a smile on her lips as she clapped at Lexi's voice.
It was a surprise to be hearing Lexi reading out loud, it was normal for her to go shy if asked to reading anything but to hear her reading to Lydia, he smiled at the sound of her voice softer than Alexa's but he could hear the changes in her voice as she read as a different character, he still couldn't believe that she was 5.
When she came to the end of the chapter she was reading and closed the book, Klaus applauded her from the doorway and she looked at him, embarrassment in her eyes.
She had always been a shy child even when she was as young as Lydia while Alexa was more adventurous, Lexi was cautious almost uncertain.
When they started kindergarten it had been a very difficult time, Lexi practically clung to Stefan's when he had to take them in while Alexa ran off to join the other children, Lexi would cry it became so hard that sometimes they would collect her half way through the day.
As she got older, she did start to come out of her shell more but when he and Caroline had taken Lexi and Alexa roller-skating.
Lexi had slipped while trying to skate to Klaus and had fallen cutting her knee, he had seen the same look in her eyes now that he saw that day when he came to her side to check her cuts and she had looked at him, her top lip trembling as tears rolled down her red cheeks.
'Lexi, you read beautifully'.
He told her as she stood up ready to run back into her room but he had stopped her with his words and smile.
'I heard her crying, she likes when I read to her'.
She whispered looking at Lydia who still had her eyes on Lexi.
'I can see that'.
'Do you like the little prince?'.
He asked Lexi as he picked up Lydia, kissing her cheek as he smoothed her curls and then looking back at Lexi who nodded.
'What do you like the most?'.
She shrugged, biting her lip.
'I like the prince the most, he's has questions like me'.
She said softly and Klaus chuckled.
'I thought he would be, have you brought any other books with you?'.
She shook her head.
'I wanted to bring Narnia but mummy said it was too many books and that I should bring my favourite'.
'Lexi, why aren't you dressed?'.
Rebekah asked as she walked into the nursery from the girls room and looked at her daughter.
'It's my fault I was talking to her, Lexi why don't you go get ready, okay sweetheart'.
Lexi looked at him and nodded before walking past Rebekah into the room.
'Rebekah, I was wondering if I could take Lexi for the day?'.
Rebekah looked at her brother.
'You don't have to ask to spend the day with your niece, you know she loves when she gets to spend the day with her uncle Nikklaus especially when Lydia is with you, she loves this little one'.
She told him touching Lydia's cheek.
'Just thought I'd ask I know Bethany has been taking them out I don't want to disrupt whatever she has planned for them'.
'Oh don't worry about that today was a dance class and I honestly don't think Lexi was that into as her sister, I'll go get her ready for then I won't tell her that you're taking her for the day, that can be your surprise'.
Klaus smiled kissing his sisters cheek.
'Thank you'.
'I wish you were here, I miss you'.
Elena said softly as she sat outside her childhood home on the porch swing.
She had come home after Katherine had arrived unexpectedly at the house, all tanned with news that
Jenna and Alaric were engaged.
Knowing that Katherine was likely to be heading back to Mystic Falls, Elena had decided to make the trip with her not only to celebrate with her family but to get away from the secret she had been made to keep from Elijah.
'I miss you too, how is Jenna?'.
'Delighted after the Logan Fell affair, we thought she would be sworn of men but Alaric is perfect for her and all I really want is for her to have nothing but happiness, so how is London without me?'.
She asked.
'As well as can be expected, I have spoken to my Grandfather's nurses who seem to be under the impression that my mother has power of attorney when it comes to his health which is why I have a meeting with Henry's lawyer'.
'So you've been seeing your mother?'.
'Not recently but she has asked or more demanded that we all join her for dinner before we depart but at the moment Nikklaus and Rebekah both refuse to step foot into her home, so I don't intend to push the matter with them'.
'I'm sorry'.
'For?'.
She smiled as she heard him sigh.
'Your mother she doesn't like to make your lives easy'.
'Esther isn't one for the easy life no'.
He chuckled as she yawned.
'I let you get back to sleep'.
'Hey I'm the one that called you remember'.
She reminded him as she yawned again.
'I'll see you in a couple of days, I love you'.
She smiled at his words.
'I love you, too'.
'Alexa?'.
Klaus could hear Lexi calling out for Rebekah or Alexa upstairs as she walked out of her room and into the parent's room opposite her own to fine it empty.
While she had been getting ready, Bethany had come for Alexa who had been told not to say a word to her sister before she left and Rebekah had already set out with Caroline.
'Hello'.
She called out as she walked downstairs where Klaus was waiting for her by the front door with Lydia who had fallen asleep in his arms, her small hands resting on either side of his neck.
'Has Alexa gone to dance class?'.
She asked softly and Klaus nodded.
'Bethany forgot me?'
She told him looking down and then back at him.
'No she didn't, Bethany didn't forget you because I'm taking you out today?'.
He told her watching as a huge smiled appeared on her face and excitement lit up her eyes.
'Where are we going?'.
She asked practically skipping in her place and he smiled.
'First we are going to get lunch and then we can do whatever you want to do, okay?'.
'Okay'.
She nodded back passing him to open the door and he laughed ruffling her hair as he followed her out.
'There she is'.
Caroline looked as Rebekah pointed over to a table where Charlotte sat with two friends.
'Aunt Charlotte getting the party started without us, I see'.
Charlotte laughed in delight as she turned to find Rebekah standing behind her with Caroline.
'Ladies, you remember my beautiful niece'.
The two ladies nodded and waved at Rebekah.
'I certainly do, I also remember your handsome brother Nikklaus'.
One of them replied which made both Rebekah and Charlotte laugh while Caroline looked at the women who was old enough to be Klaus's mum.
'Grace, this stunning young lady is Caroline, his wife'.
Grace looked at Caroline who gave her a small wave as she sat next to Rebekah.
'Sorry'.
Caroline told her while Charlotte looked at her friend.
'Yes Grace I'm also sorry, sorry that my27 year old nephew isn't available to become your next husband'.
Grace rolled her eyes and looked at Caroline.
'Tell me something is he as good looking as I remember'.
'Grace, you're terrible'.
Sophie chuckled while Grace waited for a response from Caroline.
'He is maybe even more so, I'll tell you asked'.
Caroline replied which made Grace laugh.
'You should Rebekah's husband, if I wasn't married and 20 years younger'.
Charlotte told Grace as she poured two glasses of wine for Caroline and Rebekah.
'If you were 20 years younger, we'd have quite the fight on our hands'.
Rebekah told her aunt who chuckled as Rebekah sat down at the table as Caroline sat next to Grace who poured her a glass of wine.
'Thank you, so Rebekah you're married too, any children?'.
Sophie asked.
'They are both far too young to have children?'.
Grace exclaimed and Rebekah and Caroline exchanged glances.
'Actually I have two beautiful twin girls, Lexi and Alexa'.
'Twins, my girl you're a trooper, having had twins myself I know how painful labour must have been for you'.
Grace told her as she took a sip of her wine.
'The pain was worth it in the end, I've been blessed with two beautiful girls and I couldn't ask for anything more'.
Charlotte smiled at her as Grace looked at Caroline.
'Please tell you me you and Nikklaus haven't had a child too'.
'We do, her name's Lydia, she is adorable and the sparkle in her father's eye'.
Grace faked a faint at Caroline's words which made all of the ladies laugh.
'He's a father too, why am I not 20 years younger'.
'See I wish I had one but no I married a man with a desire to have a football team, thankfully we stopped after number 5'.
Sophie said which made both Rebekah and Caroline laugh.
'A football team?'.
Caroline questioned and Grace nodded.
'Yes, the thing is he isn't the one who has to carry the child for nine months and then give birth, no see that's my problem with men they are for having a baby because they get to enjoy the process of making a baby, they don't have to deal the body changes or the emotions'.
Rebekah laughed at Sophie's words which made her look at her.
'Sorry, it's just Caroline here has aspirations of a big family for her and my brother'.
Caroline looked at Rebekah who smiled back at her sister in law, Charlotte smiled at the moment between the two.
'Well I can hardly blame her, if I was her I would never let him leave the bedroom'.
A smirk on Grace's face as she raised her glass to Caroline who raised her own as Charlotte chuckled.
'Let's change the subject from Nikklaus before Grace here decides to leave her husband'.
Jenna was in the kitchen her head resting on the side when Elena and Katherine finally stumbled out of their beds and downstairs both their heads pounding from the amount of wine they had drank the night before clearly they thought they would get a head start on the bachelorette party that had yet to be planned.
'Your mother is so judging me right now'.
Jenna mumbled as she lifted her head up to look at Elena and Katherine.
'We are both over 21 year, I don't think she'd be judging and didn't you used to say that you learned how to sneak out of the house from mum'.
Katherine asked as she poured herself a mug of coffee while Elena took a bite from an apple and smiled at Jenna.
'That is true, your mother was the teacher I was the student'.
She chuckled and then clutched her head.
'Whose brilliant idea was it for us to go through almost 5 bottles of wine last night'?
She asked looking at both girls pointed back at her.
'Yours'.
'And you agreed?'.
Jenna asked and Elena nodded.
'Who are we to disagree with the soon to be bride, you never say no to the bride'.
Elena said with a laugh.
'Well next time I suggest drinking so much wine you tell me no, agreed'.
Katherine and Elena nodded.
'Good, well I'm going back to bed'.
Jenna smiled at them both as she walked out of the kitchen.
'So while Jenna sleeps off her hangover, what are you going to do?'.
Elena asked as Katherine made herself comfortable on the kitchen side.
'I was thinking of surprising the older Salvatore brother'.
Elena laughed.
'Oh really?'.
'Yes really, it's our thing remember whenever I'm in town'.
'Yes I know but don't you want to settle down with him one day'.
Katherine shrugged as she played with a stray curl.
'I don't know I like the unpredictability of my life right now and while you want that whole white picket fence with the two perfect children.
I'm not sure I ever will want that'.
Katherine smiled at Elena as she slipped down from the side and walked towards her sister, pausing to rest her hand on Elena's shoulder before heading upstairs.
'Dada'.
Klaus looked at Lydia who had two strawberries in her hands and was smiling at him before putting on in her mouth.
He laughed softly looking down at Lydia who was laying on her stomach, head resting in hand as she turned the page with the other.
He had taken Lexi to lunch just by the river before asking her what she wanted to do and wasn't at all surprised when she had mentioned the national British library where they spent almost 3 hours not that he minded.
He was glad to see her happy and being somewhere she enjoyed while most children that had been brought to the library that day seemed to have been forced by their parents
She was one of a few that was genuinely excited to be there.
He could see it in her eyes that she didn't want to live but Lydia had started to become restless but Klaus promised her that they could come again before they go home.
They had walked from the library to Hyde Park stopping on the way to get a milkshake as they had walked Klaus pointed out places to Lexi that Rebekah used to love as well as the others.
As soon as they had arrived in the park Lexi pulled out one of the new books that Klaus had brought for her and started to read while Klaus watched Lydia who was eating strawberries on a blanket.
'Did you have fun?'.
Klaus asked Lexi as they sat in Hyde Park under a tree watching the people on the boats in the lake.
Lexi turned to look at him and nodded as she sat up to face him.
'Yes, thank you Uncle Nik?'.
'Thank you for keeping me and Lydia company, she can't say it yet but she really likes when you spend the day at our house'.
'I like it too'.
She replied looking back at her book as his phone started to ring, he pulled the phone out of his pocket and looked at the number on his screen before answering.
'Hello?'.
He answered.
'Hello'.
A women replied.
'Who is this?'.
He asked as he looked at Lydia who was now moving onto her second strawberry.
'This is Carol Lockwood, I'm trying to reach Caroline Mikaelson.
Klaus paused for a moment before he replied not sure why Carol was trying to get through to Caroline.
'Sorry Carol its Klaus, how did you get this number?'.
'From Olivia, she told me that if I couldn't reach Caroline on her phone I should call this number, is she around?'.
'Not at the moment, I can pass on a message too her'.
'Great could you tell her that we need to start planning the engagement party as soon as possible, it's not every day your son gets married and I want everyone in Mystic Falls to remember this party'.
'I will sure to be pass on the message'.
He replied while trying to keep his voice as even as possible.
'Thank you Klaus, speak soon'.
She hang up before he could respond and he stared at his phone before slipping it back into his pocket.
'Your home'.
Rebekah exclaimed as she found Stefan sitting in the study with a whiskey by his side as he read a book which he closed as he saw Rebekah who was clearly slightly intoxicated while Caroline waved at him.
'I told you it would only be for 24 hours, was it really that unbearable without me?'.
He asked as he pulled her into his lap and she sighed as brushed her hair away from her face.
'24 hours is too long for me to be without you'.
She whispered placing a peck on his lips and he smiled.
'Where are the girls, I was surprised not to be welcomed by them?'.
'Bethany took Alexa to dance class and then dropped her off at Ava's for the sleepover and Nik should be on his way back with Lexi as we speak'.
Stefan chuckled as he heard the front door open and the sound of Lexi's small footsteps as she passed the study stopping when she saw Stefan sitting there with Rebekah, dropping her bag on the floor as Stefan stood up to greet his daughter with open arms lifting her into the air which made her laugh before bringing her down to kiss her cheek.
'Hey Kiddo, you have fun with your uncle Klaus?'.
He asked he to which she nodded.
'I did, I got new books'.
She told Stefan which made Rebekah look at her brother.
'New books, I think when we go home someone will be getting a room of their own for herself and her books'.
She said playfully smoothing out Lexi's hair and Stefan looked at her
'You know it would be a good idea, I think their old enough now to have rooms of their own, what do you think Lex do you think your older enough to have your own room'.
Lexi looked at her parents and nodded.
'Do I get to pick the colour'?
Rebekah laughed kissing her daughter's hair.
'Yes, your choice'.
Lexi smiled before looking at Stefan who put Lexi down so that she could ran over to Klaus who leaned down to pick he up as she threw her arms over his shoulder and kissed his cheek.
'Love you, Uncle Klaus'.
He smiled as he gave her a small squeeze and kissed her temple.
'Love you too, Lex'.
Caroline had changed out of her clothes and was sitting on the bed with her glasses on she heard Klaus walk into the nursery with Lydia before he walked into their own bedroom closing the door behind him.
She watched as he took of his jacket and hung it on the back of the door before sitting on the end of the bed to take off his shoes.
'You're quiet?'.
She questioned and he nodded as he felt her moving to the edge of the bed, her hands resting on his shoulders.
'Did something happen?'.
She whispered as he nodded again and looked over his shoulder at her.
'Is there something you need to tell me?'.
He asked her.
'No'.
She replied without even thinking about it and he narrowed his eyes.
'Are you sure because I got a call from Carol Lockwood today, she was trying to reach you but for some reason she called me?'.
Caroline looked at him.
'That bitch, I told her not to give Carol my number so she gave her yours'.
'So you're working for Carol Lockwood now?'.
He asked and she nodded.
'Yes, it's just one small party that's all'.
'Caroline, she wants you to plan an engagement party for Tyler'.
'He's engaged'.
She whispered before looking at Klaus.
'I didn't know, I didn't even want this I begged Olivia to assign the job to someone else but she refused because Carol requested me personally'.
'Well I'd say I'm surprised but I'm not, I don't think she could ever get over your breaking up with her precious son'.
She could hear the bitterness in his tone.
'Klaus, I won't do it and I know Helena will be pissed at me for losing the account but I'd rather her be mad at me than you'.
'I'm not mad at you love, I am a little because you lied to me instead of telling me the truth but you and I have been together 8 years, the same amount of time you and Tyler ceased being you and Tyler.
I'm not mad at you but I'm not thrilled that you will be working closely with him'.
Caroline sighed as he stood up to face her while she got up on her knees and put her hand on his chest.
'You don't need to feel threatened by Tyler'.
'I'm not threatened by Tyler, love'.
She looked at him with a raised eyebrow.
'Klaus you don't have to prove you're the alpha male'.
'But I am the Alpha Male'.
She laughed softly as he put his hand on her waist.
'Yes you are the Alpha male, your all the male I am ever going to need'.
He nodded as he leaned forwards his nose brushing against.
'I can't stand the thought of him being around you'.
'I don't either but I'm hoping that he can be mature enough to work with me without dragging up the past and the same goes for his mother I doubt she has grown to tolerate me yet'.
She said with a soft laugh as he placed both hands on her face as he leaned into kiss her.
'I'm going to try and not let this get to me but Caroline I can't help the way I feel about him'.
'I know but it doesn't matter what Tyler was to me.
You are my last love it doesn't matter if he was my first your all that matters now'.
Sorry for the long wait for this chapter.
I lost my grandmother two months ago and I was in no mood to write but now I am in better place and will continue this story as I intended to.
I know there was a lack of a few characters but as I am going to be closing the door on the London stage of the story they will be brought back into the fold especially with what I have planned for the next couple of chapters.
Again sorry for the wait and be sure to review, follow or favourite if you like what you read.
