Hell is Around The Corner & the Devil isn't invited

'Stefan, come in'.

Stefan smiled at Eric as he walked into the house he shared with Charlotte who he could hear talking with Ava in the living room.

'Eric, how are you?'

Stefan asked as Eric turned to him once he had closed the front door and he shrugged a questioning look on his face.

'I'm well considering, how are you I know Rebekah is stressed about having Esther into your home but how do you feel about meeting Esther?'.

Stefan looked at Eric he hadn't really been thinking about himself he had been making sure that Rebekah was as relaxed as possible and the girls where happy.

He hadn't been thinking of Esther at all because honestly he had no feelings towards he knew no to judge someone so easily but he had could see the damage she had done to her own children.

'Tonight isn't about me making a judgement, tonight I am going to support my wife as she introduces our children to their grandmother.

While I hold on judgement, if she makes Rebekah or Klaus feel in anyway threatened in their home I will ask her to leave'.

Eric looked at Stefan his expression changing into an easy smile as he nodded.

'I understand, she is my wife's sister but I can't stand being in her company for more than a few minutes especially when she is with that man but at least he knows his presences isn't welcome'.

Stefan nodded in agreement and then smiled as he saw Rebekah out of the living room.

She had heard his voice as he walked through the door and had gone to greet him but had stopped when she heard what he had said to Eric and smiled.

When she walked out of the living room, she sighed at the sight of him and practically ran into his awaiting embrace.

As soon as his arms closed around her she let out a soft sigh of content.

She had missed and now she was back in his arms.

Eric looked at the pair and smiled as he walked away.

She felt Stefan's lips in her hair and titled her head back to look at him.

'Hi'.

She whispered as he kissed her once and smiled as he ran his fingers through her hair.

'Hey beautiful'.

He whispered back as she reached up to kiss her hair hands running through his hair.

She felt him smiling against her lips and leaned back to see him smiling at her dropping a kiss to her forehead as he stepped back from the embrace, taking her hands in his and she smiled.

'I've missed you'.

She told him once they were outside, sitting by the edge of the lake her feet dipping into the water as he sat beside her, arm slung around her as she rested her head against his shoulder their hands still interlocked.

'I missed you, I guess I know what it's like'.

He chuckled as she smiled.

'It's not nice, have the girls been okay?'.

She asked and he nodded.

'Perfect Alexa is now wants to be Selena Gomez'.

Rebekah chuckled.

'Of course she does, wasn't it Katy Perry last week'.

'Yes and it will be Miley Cyrus by tomorrow'.

Stefan replied with a laugh.

'How's Lexi?'.'.

'She's perfect too, we she wants to learn Italian'.

He told her she could hear how proud he was that she wanted to learn a language that he could teach her.

'Are you going to teach her, I know your Italian isn't the best but you could teach her and re learn at the same time and you know she'd love it, her daddy who she adores teaching her Italian'.

Stefan nodded just seeing Lexi's eyes in his mind lighting up as he tells her, he couldn't imagine why he would say no.

'I actually have something I need to tell you?'.

Rebekah sat up looking at him as he looked out at the lake and played with her fingers.

'What?'.

She questioned and he smiled.

'You know how I've been working while we've been here?'.

She nodded.

'Yes because your editor is a huge thorn in our lives'.

She commented and he laughed.

'Yeah well, what if I was to tell you that when I went to New York, it wasn't for work but to meet up with the Penguin group, the publishers because they want to work with me'.

'What?'.

He could tell that Rebekah was trying to figure out what he was trying to tell her.

'Yesterday I emailed my editor my last piece for the magazine because I no longer work for them and that as of yesterday afternoon I became one of the Penguin groups newest authors'.

He should have seen it coming but he laughed anyway as Rebekah pulled him into a kiss before laughing.

'You're going to be home'.

He nodded at her question.

'Yeah, well that's if you can do with having me around'.

'We always need you around, baby'.

She told him kissing him again and smiling.

'Have you told the girls?'.

'Not yet I thought I should give you something to smile about first before dinner'.

'I'm so proud Stefan'.

He brushed his lips against hers and she smiled touching his cheek with soft fingers.

'I love you'.

Caroline had come home after leaving Cami's quietly which she is pretty certain, Camille wasn't expecting considering she had boldly claimed that Klaus was still in love with her when he left London but Caroline hadn't reacted she didn't know how to but she knew if stayed there with Camille for a moment longer she would have done something she would have regretted.

Before returning to the house, she had picked up flowers to bring life to the dining room and had then got a cab back to the house.

She put the flowers in the kitchen and headed upstairs to find that Lydia was taking a nap on her bed with Klaus beside her clutching his finger tightly even in sleep.

Her small body against his chest and Caroline smiled at the sight of her husband and daughter, this was her life no matter what Cami claimed this was her life and not the life Camille was supposed to have with him.

She removed her shoes and had joined them on the bed lying behind Lydia who shuffled but then settled back into her slumber.

Caroline played with her curls and looked at Klaus as she let out a small yawn and fell asleep with them.

'Smells good in here?'.

Elijah smiled as Elena walked into the kitchen.

'You look stunning'.

He whispered kissing her cheek as she stood behind him and smiled.

'Thank you, I didn't think it was going to be a casual affair, you should start getting ready I can watch this'.

He smiled as he adjusted the strap on her dress, dropping a kiss to her shoulder.

'I left your suit on the bed'.

'Thank you'.

He kissed her before walking out the kitchen looking back to see her getting out the wine glasses from the cupboard and putting them onto a tray.

'Mummy, does grandma make you sad?'.

Lexi asked Rebekah as she braided the front of hair into a waterfall braid.

'No, sweetie why do you think that?'.

'You were sad when Uncle Elijah said she was coming here for dinner, then you went away'.

Lexi turned to look at Rebekah who smiled.

'I was upset with her but not anymore I promise, I'm sorry I went away I missed you'.

Lexi smiled as Rebekah smoothed her hair.

'I missed you, so did Alex but daddy missed you the most'.

Rebekah smiled kissing the tip of Lexi's nose as Stefan walked into the room with Alexa.

'Why don't you and your sister go downstairs and help Aunty Elena with the flowers'.

Rebekah suggested looking at Stefan and then at Alexa who nodded with a smile.

'Yes, mum'.

Alexa turned to leave with Lexi following but she turned back to Rebekah and hugged her.

'Love you, mummy'.

Rebekah gave her a small squeeze as she looked at her daughter.

'Mummy loves you back'.

Lexi smiled as she kissed Rebekah's cheek and then disappeared out of the door.

'You ready?'.

Stefan asked as he walked over to Rebekah who nodded distracting herself by playing with her bracelet and he took her hand, entwining their fingers as he smiled.

'One night, she leaves we got to bed and tomorrow when we wake up it will be a new day it's just one night'.

She nodded kissing him.

'One night'.

Caroline walked out of the closet to find Klaus fussing over his tie before throwing it to the ground in frustration.

'Hey'.

She whispered as she picked up the tie and then put her hand on his shoulder as she looked at their reflection in the mirror as she started to do his tie and he watched with a small smile as she fixed the collar of his shirt and then came in front of him to make a final adjustment to the tie.

'There it just needed a women's touch'.

'What would I do without you?'.

He asked and she gave a small shrug.

'It's a good thing you'll never have to know'.

She replied as he looked at him, the Camille issue could be another day's problem, tonight she didn't need to torture him with his memories of the past.

She could see it in his eyes everything he had said to her that morning had been a front, he had said it was one night but it was the first night in years that he would be in the same room as the women he called mother and the women who watched as her child was out into the darkness by his father.

She wasn't sure how she would be able to compose herself, the first time meeting his mother wasn't exactly going to be the best moment of her life but she would smile at Esther, tell her how lovely she looks and introduce her to Lydia and do her part as a supportive wife even though in the back of her mind a voice will be screaming at her that Esther has no right to meet their child after everything she had done.

Esther approached the white three story, classic style home and stood there for a moment impressed and saddened by the life that her children had made for themselves that allowed them to be afford such a beautiful home.

Children's toys scattered on the lawn, the house was clearly full of love and laughter that she could hear as she heard laughing as she took the few final steps up to the porch.

'They are beautiful girls'.

Ava told Stefan as who looked over adoringly Lexi sat on a chair beside Henry while Alexa sat on his knee and was showing them pictures of Rebekah from when she was younger.

'That's all Rebekah'.

He replied with a smile as he heard the door bell.

'Excuse me'.

Ava smiled and went over to join her sister who was talking with Elena as Stefan went to answer the door.

He opened the door with a smile and stared at the women he recognised his smile faltering for a moment.

'Stefan who is it?'.

He turned around and looked at Rebekah as she walked out of the kitchen and stared at the women in the doorway.

'Mother'.

She looked at Stefan as Esther stepped inside and looked back at her daughter as she slowly walked over to her and stood beside Stefan who placed his hand on her lower back.

'Rebekah aren't you going to introduce me?'.
Esther asked and Rebekah looked at her for a moment longer before looking at Stefan.

'Mother this is Stefan my husband, Stefan this is my mother Esther'.

Esther looked at Stefan whose gaze was on Rebekah before he looked back at her and smiled.

'Esther it's a pleasure to meet you, welcome to our home'.

Stefan smiled politely doing his role as loving husband.

'Thank you, Stefan'.

'Come through everyone is in the dining room'.

Rebekah slipped her hand into Stefan's as Esther followed them into the dining room.

Elijah turned when he heard the approaching footsteps and looked at Rebekah as he saw Esther come into view.

'Elijah'.

She greeted him as he walked over to her and kissed his mother on the cheek much to her surprise but she smiled regardless as Stefan motioned for Alexa and Lexi to come to him.

Rebekah watched as Alexa and Lexi came over to her, Lexi looking at Esther and then at Rebekah going to her mother's side and holding her hand while Alexa stood beside Stefan and stared at Esther curiously.

'Mother I would like you to meet your granddaughters Alexa and Lexi, girls this your grandmother Esther'.

Rebekah told her daughters who looked at her and then back at Esther who smiled at them both, Alexa was the first one of them to speak.

'Hello grandma I'm Alexa Jade Salvatore'.

She said proudly smiling at Esther who stared back at the young girl, recognising so much of her own daughter in her at the age and she smiled and then looked over at Lexi who stared back at her of what to do and looked at Rebekah again for assurance who nodded at Lexi fixing a strand of her hair.

'It's okay'.

Lexi looked at Stefan and then smiled at Esther.

'I'm Lexi Grace Salvatore, it's nice to meet you'.

Esther smiled at Lexi and Alexa.

'Alexa and Lexi what pretty names for such beautiful girls, it's my pleasure to finally meet you both, you remind me of your mother when she was your age'.

'Why is it that she doesn't put up a fuss when you get her dressed?'.

Caroline asked as she watched Klaus fix Lydia's dress and then picked her up turning to look at Caroline with a smile and she sighed.

'It's going to be okay, you have me and her by your side'.

Klaus nodded and then looked at Elena as she appeared behind Caroline waving at Lydia who waved back.

'Hey cutie, Elijah wanted me to tell you that your Mum is downstairs'.

Elena and Caroline looked at Klaus who nodded at Elena.

'We'll be down in a moment'.

He told her and she smiled before leaving.

Klaus looked at Lydia who stared back at him with her bright blue eyes and a wide toothy smile and then he felt Caroline beside him, her hand on his cheek and he looked at her.

'I have nothing to worry about?',

He asked her and she nodded pressing her lips to his cheek.

'You have nothing to worry about'.

She replied as he put an arm around her waist, kissing the side of her head.

Henry watched as Klaus walked into the dining room, his eyes meeting Elijah who nodded once at his brother as he walked over to Esther who was sitting with Rebekah with the Alexa and Lexi talking about the girls.

'Nik'.

Rebekah looked at her brother with a smile and he smiled back as Esther turned slowly to look at him.

Her eyes going from Lydia to Caroline who stood supportively by Klaus's side and then she looked at her son.

'Nikklaus'.

She said his name softly as she stood up and looked at him.

Everyone in the room seemed to be watching this reunion with varied expressions from hopeful to concern.

'Mother I would like you to introduce you to my wife Caroline and our daughter Lydia'.

Caroline looked at Esther.

'Esther it's nice to meet you'.

Esther nodded.

'As it is you Caroline'.

Esther then looked at Lydia who was staring at Klaus adoringly and then Klaus looked at his mother.

'Would you like to hold her?'.

He offered much to everyone's surprise and Esther looked at him without answering before nodding as Lydia finally looked at her.

Klaus eased Lydia into his mother's arms knowing that his daughter had a habit of crying when somebody new held her but Lydia made no fuss and simply stared at the older women.

The dinner had gone smoothly, Esther had sat close to Rebekah and Klaus who while both found it difficult to be normal with her did their best and remained civil and polite with her throughout the meal.

While everyone had moved from the dining room into the living room, Elena had started to clear away the dishes from dining room when Esther entered and started to help her.

'Thank you Elena for keeping my secret'.

Esther told Elena as she followed her into the kitchen and Elena turned to face her as she threw the empty wine bottles away.

'It's not my place to tell them, it should come from you'.

'I know that but I think them not knowing is for the best you leave soon and will return to your normal lives, I don't want their last days in this city to be ones that I ruin'.

'Who is it better for not Klaus he has a right to know who is father is, he believes that a man who has spent more time hating him than loving him is his father and we both know that it isn't true, after everything he has been through you owe him the truth'.

Elena told her and then smiled as Elijah walked through carrying the plates and looked between the two women.

'Is everything alright?'.

He questioned looking at Elena and then Esther who smiled.

'Yes I was just telling Elena that I'm proud to see you all so happy in your lives'.

Elijah smiled at her words and then looked at Elena.

'We are all happy, Kol and Bonnie have just arrived if you want to meet your grandson before Bonnie puts him down for the evening'.

Esther nodded and smiled at Elena before walking out of the room.

'You have been very patient with her this evening, thank you for that'.

Elijah told Elena as she started to load the dishwasher and she sighed.

'Tonight has been about her getting to know her family, my patience for her comes from my love for you and my caring for my friends'.

Elijah nodded.

'I didn't believe her before when she claimed to want Nikklaus's forgiveness but seeing her with him tonight, I believe her intentions towards him to be true'.

'Do you think Klaus would be willing to forgive her after all this time?'.

Elena asked as she closed the dishwasher.

'It's my brother's decision but I think it would take more than one evening in her company for him to forgive her'.

'She's seems lovely Kol'.

Esther told her son as they sat together, she was clearly taken with Noah who Bonnie had taken upstairs to put to bed.

'She changed me'.

Kol told her looking at his mother like his siblings he couldn't forgive her for her part in what Mikael had done to Klaus but Kol did miss his mother.

'It's nice to see you and your brother have moved on with your lives'.

Kol looked at her.

There had been one point in his life when a girl had almost come between him and Klaus, Tatia.

Tatia had been a women, to call her a girl would have been an insult.

She wasn't very nice to anyone especially not to him but he was crazy about her as where most guys she was seductive and beautiful and had line of guys wanting to be with her and for some reason she decided that she wanted not one but two Mikaelson boys not that either himself or Klaus knew this at the time.

She had lured her way into Kol's heart at the same time she had lured her way into Klaus's bed.

She was the reason Kol would go on to have meaningless flings until Bonnie, when he discovered that she had been sleeping with his older brother behind his back.

His first instinct was to believe everything that Mikael claimed Klaus to be but Kol knew better than that.

So instead of lashing out, he continued with the relationship until he used her own tricks against her and lured her to his home where he wasn't alone.

Tatia walked into the house expecting to find Kol but instead found Kol waiting for her with Klaus who silently dismissed her before walking out leaving her to face Kol alone and he could have listened to her lies that Klaus had been pursuing her but he knew the truth more to the fact he knew his brother would never do that to him.

'You're not supposed to be here Mikael'.

Rebekah heard Charlotte snap as she walked downstairs, she had left Stefan to read the girls a story before they went to bed and found her father standing in the foyer arguing in a low voice with Charlotte.

'What are you doing here?'.

Rebekah asked surprising Charlotte who didn't even know Rebekah was behind her but Rebekah was looking directly at her father.

'I have every right to be here, Rebekah my family is here'.

Rebekah scoffed at his words.

'Your family maybe here but that doesn't mean we want you here'.

'After all this time you still see me as the bad guy'.

'You tormented my brother, you still do even though you're not part of our lives, and somehow you still manage to bring fear to Nikklaus, your son what kind of father does that'.

'Son, that bastard is no child of mine'.

'Look still so cruel, he's better off without you'.

Charlotte commented and Mikael ignored her looking back at Rebekah.

'Do you truly believe that I would have treated Nikklaus the way I did if he was my own, look at the way I treated Fin, Elijah, Kol and Henrik.

I treated them as sons because they are my children as are you but Nikklaus he is the cause of your mother's disloyalty to me, if you don't believe me ask her yourself better yet why don't I?'.

'Mikael don't you dare'.

Klaus froze at the sound of Charlotte's raised voice and turned to find Mikael storming into the living room, a sinister smirk on his face as he glanced at him cruelly and then looked at Henry.

'What are you doing here?'.

Henry demanded.

'Did you really think you could keep me away from my family, Henry she is my wife just as much as she is your daughter and these are my children well three of them have the right to call me a father, isn't that right Esther?'.

'Mikael this isn't the time or place for this'.

She told him looking at Klaus a sleeping Lydia in his arms staring from her to Mikael.

'I think it's the perfect time'.

He told her harshly as he stepped closer to Klaus who instinctively took a step back but Mikael didn't come closer to him but stood a few feet away, his eyes then going to Lydia and then back at Klaus as he shifted Lydia in his arms to protect her from Mikael.

'I would never harm a baby, you think so low of me'.

'You've had a women rid me of a child before so yes I do think so lowly of you, father'.

Mikael looked at him almost impressed for a moment.

'Father, you have no right to call me that, you're not my child Nikklaus you never have been.

You see once upon a time your mother was a slut who lay in another man's bed and conceived you'.

Mikael told him wickedly.

'Don't call her that'.

'What a slut but it's fitting for a women that tried to lie to me about you, who stood by and watched me beat her son like an animal, so quickly you defend her now?'.

Klaus felt Mikael's words stinging in his chest and then he saw her standing behind Mikael.

'Caroline please take our daughter upstairs'.

Caroline looked at him and shook her head but Klaus's eyes pleaded with her and she walked around Mikael looking at him with disgust as Klaus passed Lydia to her.

Elijah quietly asked Charlotte and Ava to leave them room with Henry joining them.

'Elena would you go with them please take them through to the garden'.

Elena nodded but Mikael looked at her and she knew from the look on his face that he knew that Esther had confided in her and smirked.

'Elijah you may want her to stay would you believe that she has known all about your mother's dirty little secret'.

Elijah looked at Elena surprised but when she couldn't look in his eyes he knew but he looked back at his father and nodded.

'I know she keeps no secrets from me now, Elena please'.

Elena nodded as she followed Ava, Charlotte and Henry out but she couldn't avoid the looks she received from Kol or Rebekah as she passed them.

'What satisfaction do you get out of this?'.

Elijah demanded from Mikael as Elena closed the door.

'I get the satisfaction of looking on Nikklaus's face as he realise everything he knew to be true has been a lie, you have no father'.

'If I had no father then why did you keep me in your home, raise me as your own if it was never so'.

'I did so to put you in your place, I would never raise a hand to my blood but I beat you within an inch of your life to teach you that I would never love you even though you clung to the thought that one day I would embrace you as I did my boys and your sister.

Maybe I would have tried harder but you took Henrik from us and I can't forgive you for that'.

'I DIDN'T KILL HIM'.

Klaus yelled his body shaking.

'You may as well have held him under the water yourself and watched him drown, his death will always be your fault'.

Klaus was taken back to that moment he was pulled Henrik out of the water.

His body seemed so much smaller in those moments, his small body shaking in Klaus's warmth as he tried to stay awake.

'It's cold'.

Henrik whispered as Klaus tried in vain to warm him up.

'It's okay buddy, help is coming'.

He told his little brother as he turned his head.

'ELIJAH'.

He called his brother's name again and again.

Looking back at Henrik who was shaking terribly in his arms.

'It's so cold, Nik'.

Klaus nodded as he removed his jumper and wrapped it around Henrik with his coat and scarf.

Trying in vain to keep Henrik awake shivering as the cold air whipped past him.

'Save your strength I can hear Elijah coming'.

He rubbed Henrik's hands between his, ignoring that the tips of his fingers showed no signs of warmth but remained blue and cold.

'ELIJAH, PLEASE'.

Klaus called out again his voice breaking from tears as he looked at Henrik who was drifting in and out of consciousness

'Henrik, you stay with me okay'.

He pleaded with his baby brother but part of him knew that it was too late but still he held him close hoping that his body heat would be enough that Elijah would come into view and they would get Henrik to safety.

'Nik'.

He heard Henrik gasp and looked at his brother who gave him a small smile.

'Thank you'.

He whispered his voice a low tremble in the wind as he smiled again before taking what would be his final breath.

'No, Henrik, no come on'.

He lay his brother on the ground and started to give him CPR but nothing was working.

'Henrik, please'.

He sobbed as he continued in desperation to revive his brother.

'Nikklaus'.

He turned and looked as Elijah appeared behind him.

'He's gone'.

Elijah could barely hear what Klaus had said until he realised that Klaus was cradling a small body in his arms and dropped to his knees beside Klaus and looked at his little brother.

'I couldn't save him'.

Elijah looked at Klaus seeing that the same torment in his eyes that he saw in them when he found Klaus and Henrik and looked at Mikael.

'Stop it, he doesn't need this not here, not now'.

'He doesn't need it, well he shouldn't have taken Henrik from us, he ruined our family, he is nothing but poison to our lives when are you going to see that'.

'The only poison in our lives has been you, you still belittle him, making him feel worthless and for what he isn't your son you've said that yourself so explain to me.

Mikael what satisfaction do you get from ridiculing my brother, he may not be your family but he is mine and yes you maybe my father but I didn't learn a thing from you if anything we all learned to be better than the man you are'.

Elijah told Mikael as Klaus stood beside him, trembling as all he could see was Henrik.

'Better than me, he will never be better than me, he is an abomination on lives, I look him and all I see is a reminder that I lost a son for this pathetic excuse for person'.

'Are you seriously going to sit back and watch him tear Nikklaus apart again, what is wrong with you

You're supposed to be our mother but you're not doing anything.

Tell him he's wrong that Nikklaus doesn't deserve the blame for Henrik.

It was accident it could have happened to anyone of us but you're not going to do anything are you'.

Esther met Rebekah's watery gaze but she found no words to say to her daughter that would ease her pain so instead she looked away and Rebekah laughed coldly.

'My god, you make me sick, I thought maybe you had changed that I could have my mother back in my life after all this time but I was delusional because you haven't changed you continue to sit back as he bullies your son, you have no right to be anyone's mother because you don't know how to be one'.

The tears flowed freely down Rebekah's face as she then turned her anger on her father.

'You are nothing more than a bully, a weak pathetic man who beat the kindness out of him for years and all he wanted was to be accepted by you, all my photo's I have of us, Nik was excluded told to take the picture but never be in front of the lens, he is my family.

He tried to stay strong through it but I could hear him crying, I watched him try to hide his latest bruise from prying eyes and it killed me that my big brother who loved so much was hurting because of you.

I hate for you did to him and I will never forgive you.

Henrik died and I'm glad because he didn't have to witness your cruelty to Klaus, Henrik loved him the most and it would kill him to see what you did to him'.

Rebekah didn't even wait for Mikael to respond as she stormed out of the room almost colliding with Henry as he heard the living room door slam shut and saw Rebekah standing there tears rolling down her face as she looked at him and then at Stefan who saw his wife crying and then she was out of the door before he had a chance to stop her.

'You need to leave'.

Kol looked at Esther.

'Kol please let me explain'.

Kol shook his head at her.

'No I don't want to hear what you have to say because I won't believe it, I'm glad you got to meet your grandchildren I am but that's it you will never get the chance to be in their lives because you don't deserve it'

'That's not fair'.

She replied and he shrugged.

'I don't care if it isn't fair to you, it's fair to my son and to my nieces that they never know you because they deserve better.

'Now leave both of you'.

Kol snapped turning his eyes to Mikael who remained unmoving.

'You heard what he said'.

It was Stefan who finally made Mikael turn.

'Stefan my son in law, if I was you I'd watch yourself boy'.

Stefan didn't respond but instead stepped closer to Mikael.

'I know who you are or should I say what you are and I will not tolerate you in my home any longer and giving this choice once you can either save face not that you have much to save or I can throw you out because trust I've heard the stories about you and I have no problem with the second.

Now get out'.

Mikael looked at Stefan with a deadly glare but Stefan he didn't back down motioning toward the door with his hand.

Mikael with Esther headed for the door.

'Wait?'.

Everyone looked at Klaus as he walked towards his mother and Mikael.

His looked at Esther taking her hand which made her smile sadly.

'You wanted my forgiveness and you can have it but know that my forgiveness comes with the fact that I want to forget you.

Live your life as if I never existed and I will do the same because my mother died the moment she turned her back on me.

His eyes then went to Mikael.

'You can't make me feel any worse about Henrik than I already do he will always be my most but know this while you've called me every name under the sun, beat me till I was on my knees.

Your right I was like a dog begging for scraps of your attention but that was because I feared you and that's our difference you get your power from my fear of you but I wouldn't do that to a child whether they be or mine or someone else's.

I still may be afraid of you the monster of my nightmares but I'm strong than in the fact the people in my life love me instead of fearing me'.

'Do you feel proud of yourself with that little speech, boy'.

'I do I'm proud of every choice I have made in my life, now Mikael if you're going to leave please do so because I can't stand looking at you'.

It felt like an eternity waiting for everyone to leave.

Henry was the last to leave taking a moment to talk with Elijah privately before making his departure.

'So much for home sweet home'.

Kol sighed as Bonnie came to join him in the living room.

'You okay?'.

'Can we just go back to Paris?'.

'Afraid not our family needs us now'.

'I know, so much for telling them our news'.

'It's okay, we help them first and then we tell them okay?'.

He nodded as he kissed her hand and then her.

'Elijah I need to explain?'.

Elena put the book down as he walked into their bedroom, closing the door as he removed his suit jacket.

'Not now'.

'Yes now please'.

Elijah stopped and looked at her.

'When did she tell you?'.

'Two weeks ago and I begged her to tell you I did but I never thought it would come out this way'.

'Elena we made a promise to always be honest to each other and you've been keeping this secret from me, the promise clearly meant more to you than it did to me'.

He told her.

'No it's not like that how was I supposed to tell you something like that I didn't even know why she told me but she I wish she didn't.

I didn't want anyone especially Klaus to be hurt by this but what didn't want has happened and all I want to do is fix it, please I'm so sorry'.

'We should talk about this in the morning, I'm tired'.

He turned away from her much to her surprise.

'Elijah'.

'In the morning, Elena'.

He didn't say another word as he walked into the bathroom.

'Can I do anything?'.

Caroline asked as she walked outside and sat beside Klaus on the front step and he shrugged.

'No there is nothing you can do?'.

He replied not even looking at her as she put her hand on her knee.

'Klaus please I just want to help?'.

'I know you do but I don't want help I just'.

'You want to be alone'.

She told him completing his sentence and he looked at her and nodded.

'I'm sorry I just can't do this now'.

He stood up and she copied him.

'Where are you going to go?'.

She asked as he toyed with his car keys.

'I'm just going to go for a drive, I'll come back'.

He promised kissing her once before touching her cheek affectionately with his hand, she sighed as he pulled his hand back.

'Klaus I love you'.

He smiled but it wasn't the right small it was a fractured smile.

'You too'.

Stefan was pacing back and forth in their bedroom when his phone rang, he didn't even look at the caller i.d as he answered.

'Rebekah'.

'Hey I'm sorry for just walking out like that'.

'It's fine are you okay, where are you?'.

She sighed.

'Yeah I'm better, I'm at an old friends place I'm just going to crash here tonight'.

'Rebekah, I don't want you to be alone'.

'I'm not alone, look I have to go but I'll be back tomorrow'.

'I love you'.

She sighed softly down the phone.

'I love you too, goodnight'.

'Night'.

Marcel watched as she walked back and inside and handed her a drink as she sat back down on his couch and sighed.

'You okay?'.

He asked as he sat beside her and she looked at him, even though she had been mad at Marcel for sleeping with Cami all those years ago out of all the people she knew in London he was the only one she knew wouldn't turn her away.

'Ask me that in the morning?'.

She replied as she downed her drink and then passed the glass back to him.

'Is drinking really going to solve your problems?'.

'No but it helps ease the pain'.

Well Mikael what can I say he's a dick.

The next chapter will be around hopefully by this evening just changing a few details here and there but as I said before it's going to be very Klaus and Caroline centric with many flashbacks including many of their firsts and has a very happy ending which will bring our characters together to celebrate.
