Everything seemed to moving faster around her as she stood in the midst of watching as the party she had been planning came together.
'Earth to Caroline'.
It took her a few seconds to realise that Elena was standing beside her until her voice broke her out of her daydream and she turned to look at her friend.
'Sorry my mind was somewhere else'.
Caroline said as Elena smiled.
'That's okay I just wanted to know how everything went with the scan'.
She asked her voice low.
'The scan'.
Caroline repeated she had gone for her scan a couple of hours before where her and Klaus had got news neither was expecting.
'Fine the scan went fine'.
She replied.
'Mrs Mikaelson'.
'Yes'.
Caroline and Elena both looked at the man that approached them.
'There seems to be a problem with the champagne order, on the inventory list it states that you order 20 bottles of champagne but we have received 20 bottles of prosecco and the delivery driver has already left'.
'Are you kidding me did nobody bother to check the order before letting him leave'.
She snapped and the guy shook his head.
'We didn't feel it necessary'.
'Of course it's necessary, the guests can't toast the engagement with prosecco'.
'Caroline this can be easily fixed you okay'.
Elena said placing a hand on her friends arm as she looked at the man.
'Can you give us a minute?'.
The man nodded as he stepped away from the two of them as Elena looked at Caroline.
'Are you okay?'.
'I'm fine I just apparently have the most incompetent waiting staff in history working this job and I need this party to go well'.
'It will okay but as your friend who knows your current condition I think you should go home and relax.
I can handle this but you don't need the added pressure right now'.
'I can't Elena if something goes wrong it's not just on me it's on the company'.
'Nothing is going to go wrong, you'll be back in a few hours so please go home and rest before I call Klaus and tell him that you are working yourself into a frenzy'.
Caroline sighed as she looked at Elena and nodded.
'Fine but promise me you'll make sure nothing else goes wrong'.
Elena laughed.
'Of course I will put my Caroline Forbes hat on and whip this lot into shape before tonight'.
Caroline smiled as she embraced Elena and then turned to leave.
'So about that champagne mishap'.
Elena said as she walked over to man.
'I'm going to hope that you have a car because I have stay here and make sure nothing else goes wrong for the sanity of my best friend and I can't go and pick up 20 bottles of champagne, so tell me that you have a car'.
The man nodded and Elena gave him a small smile.
'Great I'm going to give you an address and you are going to go there and pick up champagne'.
She quickly wrote an address on a piece of paper and handed it to the man who stared at it and then back at her.
'This is a bar'.
'I know exactly what it is but it happens to be one of the best stocked bars, so when you get there ask for Kol and tell him that Caroline urgently needs champagne for tonight'
She smiled at him once more before he turned and walked away.
'They loved the story'.
Stefan said as he walked into the bedroom with a wide smile.
'I knew they would what's not to love about your writing'.
Rebekah told him as she walked out of the closet, hanging his suit on the back of the door as she lay two dress on the bed.
'Your bias you love everything I write'.
He told her as he stood beside her and kissed her.
'True, so can I ask you a fashion question?'.
She asked as he looked at her and nodded.
'Ask away'.
'Which dress do you prefer?'.
He stared down at the two dresses before him.
'I like them both'.
He commented which made her roll her eyes.
'I know that but which one should I wear tonight, I don't want to upstage the bride to be but I don't want to look like a frumpy married women either'.
'First of all you're going to upstage the bride anyway and second of all frumpy is not the word I'd use to describe you.
You are more of a sexy married women'.
He told her making her smile as he leaned into kiss him.
'Oh you are so good now no stop distracting me and pick one'.
He chuckled in her ear.
'Fine I think you should wear that dress you bought in London, you know the one I picked out'.
'Oh I know the one'.
She turned away from him disappearing into the closet only to reappear with a long black strapless dress with front split.
'Now that is perfect for you to wear, it's classy and sexy just like you'.
'Thank you for you help love, I'm going to pick up a gift for the happy couple do you want to join me'.
Stefan looked at her for a moment and nodded.
'I loved to join you'.
'Mum are you home'.
Caroline called out as she walked into her childhood home with Lydia holding her hand as she walked beside her.
'Hey sweetie I thought that April was dropping of Lydia'.
'Change of plans, I thought I'd bring her over'.
Caroline said with a smile as Liz hugged her daughter and then leaned down to kiss Lydia who smiled warmly at her.
'She looks more and more like you every day'.
Liz commented as they sat outside in the garden while Lydia played with her toys on the grass.
'I see more of Klaus in her especially when she smiles those dimples are all his'.
Caroline replied as she took a sip of her tea.
'Speaking of Klaus how is my son in law, I rarely get to see him these days'.
'I know he's been saying that he hasn't seen you in a while too but he's good just busy with the gallery.
He's actually been offered a chance to teach at few art classes at Whitmore but I don't know if he's going to take it'.
'That's great news'.
'I know it is but he's not sure but whatever he decides he knows I support him 100%'.
'So I've seen Tyler's fiancée she's very pretty'.
'She is, I actually like her she is the opposite of what I expected but at the same time I feel sorry for her.
She's getting Carol Lockwood as her mother in law'.
'We currently live in a 3 bedroom but my wife is expecting, so we would like to find something before she her third trimester, 5 bedrooms would be the ideal'.
Klaus paused as he looked at his computer screen, he had various browser pages opened on potential homes for himself and Caroline.
'What is your current price range Mr Mikaelson?'.
The Realtor asked as Klaus
'No more than 600'.
'That's reasonable, obviously you are looking to sell your current home or have you and your wife not made any decisions'.
'We are looking to sell but not until we have found something new and have moved in, it would be too stressful to sell our current house, while moving into a new home I just want to have my wife settled'.
'That is perfectly understandable, considering you have told us what you are looking for and your price range, I'm sure we can find something that suits both yours and wife's needs and will be perfect for your expanding family'.
'That's good to hear, thank you Linda'.
'You're welcome Mr Mikaelson have a good day and I will be in touch'.
'Elena, your champagne saviour is here'.
Elena smiled as Kol placed a crate of champagne on the counter.
'You're a lifesaver and by lifesaver you saved Caroline from going into complete melt down'.
'Well I couldn't have my dear sister in law going into complete and utter meltdown now could I, speaking of where is Caroline'.
'I had to send her home, she was working herself into a frenzy so now it's up to me to make sure everything is up to her level of perfection'
Bonnie was walking through the two square with Noah who was observing everything that went past and cooing.
'Bonnie'.
She looked up as her grams approached her.
'Hey grams'.
She said softly.
'I haven't heard from you in a while'.
'Are you surprised you told me you could see me leaving Kol and Noah like my own mum did to me and dad.
You told Kol that you don't believe in us and I'm guessing your feelings on our engagement haven't changed'.
'They haven't but that doesn't mean I don't still care about you'.
'Why can't you accept that Kol and I are in love and we are going to get married?
'I accepted that your mother and father where in love and look what happened she was too young for marriage, she didn't understand the responsibilities that came from becoming a wife or a mother'.
'I am not my mother, I am still here for my son and the man I love'.
'You're here now'.
Shelia stated.
'You know what I'm not doing this I have to go'.
'Bonnie please just consider what I'm saying'.
'No I won't consider what you're saying because I AM NOT HER'.
She yelled making Noah burst into tears at the loudness of her voice.
She didn't even look at her grams as she focused her attention on Noah who was whimpering.
'It's okay baby, mama didn't mean to scare you okay'.
She leaned into the stroller to kiss his cheeks which made him smile a toothless grin as he held on her fingers.
'Bonnie'.
Her grams pleading voice behind her as she turned to look at her.
'I can't do this right now I need to get him home'.
Klaus walked through the front door to silence, noticing Caroline's bag hang on the banister.
He headed upstairs to their bedroom to find her sleeping.
He walked in further and knelt down beside her, smoothing her hair back from her face as he placed a kiss to her cheek which caused her to stir from her slumber.
'Klaus'.
She murmured sleepily.
'Hey love'.
He replied in a whisper.
'Did you just get back?'.
'Yeah'.
Klaus nodded, running a thumb over her cheek.
'How are you feeling?.
He asked
'Still trying to get my head around everything I guess, this changes everything'.
'I know but we can do this more to the point you can do this'.
He told her as she sat up carefully and looked at him.
'Can I do this?'.
She said touching her stomach, sighing as he placed his hand over her own.
'You can do this and at any moment you think that you can't I will be here to remind you that you can'.
He told her sweetly.
'It was easier before with Lydia but now there are so many risks and complications that could happen I don't know how I'd cope if something happened to'.
She couldn't find the words and he knew.
'Nothing is going to happen, I promise you that'.
'You can't'.
'Caroline, I may have no control over what is happening but I can do everything within my power to keep you safe no matter what I will always keep you and our family safe'.
He stared at her, seeing the mix of emotions in her eyes
'Hey'.
He placed his hand on her cheek as she met his gaze.
'I love you'.
She nodded as she moved her lips to kiss his palm.
'I know'.
'Starting on the strong stuff a little early'.
Kol joked as he walked into the kitchen to find that Bonnie drinking scotch.
She looked at him and he noticed the look in her eyes.
'Hey, what happened'.
He asked as he walked over to her putting his arm around her.
'I ran into my grams and words were exchanged'.
Kol sighed as she took a sip of the drink.
'I'm so sorry Bonnie I wish there was something I could do to make this situation with you and your grams better'.
'There isn't anything you can do, she's made her feelings on us perfectly clear and we all have to live with that'.
She looked at him and smiled.
'Are we okay?'.
She asked and he nodded.
'We are more than okay'.
He smiled kissing her noticing now she was already dressed up.
'Wow Bonnie Bennett I must say you look incredible'.
She did a small spin and smiled.
'Thanks, I thought I'd make a good impression you know how judgemental Carol Lockwood can be'.
'Don't we all know it how Caroline is even working with her I will never know'.
'She loves her job that's how she copes with her'.
'Elena'.
Elena turned around to find Elijah standing behind her hall looking impeccable in black 3 piece suit, garment bag hanging over his arm.
'What are you doing here?'.
She asked as he walked over to her and kissed her on the cheek.
'I didn't think you'd have time to come home to get ready so I brought your dress to you'.
She looked at her watch noticing the time.
'Is that the time already, I've been making sure the last little details have been perfect'.
'Well from where I'm standing everything looks beyond perfect Caroline may have outdone herself, speaking of where is she?'.
'I sent her home, she looked exhausted and was getting stressed which is not good for her or the baby, have you spoken to Klaus today'.
'No why?'.
'When I asked Caroline how the scan went earlier she seemed distracted she told it went fine but you know Caroline when she was pregnant with Lydia she couldn't wait to show me the scan photo'.
'I'm sure she had a lot on her mind, but I will speak to Nikklaus this evening now you go and get ready and I'll keep my eye on everything out here'.
'Thank you'.
She took the garment bag from his arm, brushing her lips against his.
'People we know'.
Bonnie said as she saw Elena and Elijah at the bar where Elena seemed to be in the midst of giving instructions to one of the bar staff.
Kol chuckled as he stood beside his brother who looked at him.
'It's seems all this time with Caroline is rubbing of on her'.
Kol commented which made Elijah chuckle.
'Bonnie, you look beautiful'.
'Thank you Elijah'.
'Sorry about that Caroline didn't want any champagne to be given out until the toasts are made and apparently the bar staff thought that meant they could help themselves to a few bottles'.
'Good thing I threw in a few extras'.
'Trust me it's not I had to send 4 waitress home because they couldn't handle their drink'.
'Well apart from the boozy waitress situation, I must say Caroline hasn't completely out done herself'.
Elena nodded at Bonnie's words it was true the amount of time and effort Caroline had put into this engagement party was amazing.
She had spent most of her nights in the hall working out every final detail it was no surprise that she had become so worn out over the last two days.
'She has I mean I found her asleep at the bar on Thursday evening, she really wanted to impress Carol'.
'Well if Carol isn't impressed she didn't deserve Caroline to plan this party, she had nothing to prove to her'.
Elijah said and Kol nodded in agreement.
'We all know that but you know Caroline she doesn't like when anyone under estimates her and most of her life that is all people have done is underestimate her, she wanted to prove herself with this and she's done that and beyond'.
'Well this is certainly over the top'.
Rebekah commented as her and Stefan made their way through the party, Stefan chuckled his hand resting on her lower back.
'Is that jealousy I hear'?
'Me jealous of Tyler Lockwood, never'.
'I'm not talking about Tyler, I'm talking about this engagement party, we never got to have one considering I asked you to marry me 3 months after we had the girls an engagement party would have been impossible to have'.
Stefan told her as they came to stop outside where a jazz band was in full swing, Rebekah looked around at her surroundings at all the strangers that then she stopped Tyler laughing with a few guys they used to school with and then she stopped Hayley standing to the side of the party making small talk with people she clearly didn't know.
'I'm not jealous of the party, I had all the people I loved around me when I got engaged I wouldn't want to trade places with her for the world.
Sure she has gotten this amazing engagement party but look at her Stefan, she's alone, where are her friends and her family'.
Stefan looked over to Hayley who was now standing by herself nervously fidgeting with her engagement ring.
'Well for the record if you wanted to have an engagement party I would throw you the fanciest party you have ever attended'.
She smiled as he put her arms around his neck.
'How about for are 10th anniversary we do just that but not an engagement party.
A party to celebrate the last 10 amazing and beyond years that we will have together'.
He nodded leaning into kiss her.
'Deal'.
He whispered.
'Stefan, Rebekah'.
Stefan pulled away from Rebekah as Tyler approached them with Hayley beside him.
'Hayley this Stefan and Rebekah Salvatore'.
Stefan shook Tyler's hand as Rebekah smiled at Hayley and kissed her on the cheek.
'Congratulations to the both of you, it's an amazing journey your about to start together'.
Stefan told them as Tyler looked at Hayley who smiled.
'Thank you, Tyler told me that you two have been together for 7 years'.
Rebekah nodded.
'That is true together for 7 years, married for 4'.
'That's amazing, I hope in a year's time we are as happy as you two are'.
Hayley told her with a smile.
'Trust me, are marriage hasn't be simple but no marriage is the key is to take each day as it comes'.
'I'm going to get a drink from the bar, can I get you anything'.
Elijah asked Elena as she sat at the table watching Bonnie dance with Kol and Stefan dance with Rebekah.
'White wine'.
Elijah nodded as he rose from his seat.
'I'll be back shortly'.
Elena smiled at him as he walked away and then returned to watch her friends with a smile.
Until someone walked in front of her blocking her view.
'That was quick'.
She commented looking up expecting to see Elijah but found herself staring at Matt.
'I thought it was you but I wasn't sure at first I thought you where you sister'.
Elena chuckled.
'Me and Katherine get that a lot, I didn't know you were back in town, when I last spoke to Jeremy he said you two had rented a place in San Diego, is Jeremy here too?'.
'No it's just me, so you and Elijah is that new'.
She knew what he was asking and she didn't want to lie to him.
'Not so new, we've been together almost 8 months'.
Matt looked at her and then away.
'Bonnie and Kol have a child and are engaged or so I've been told'.
'It's true they have a son called Noah and they got engaged 3 months ago in Paris'.
'Shame I wasn't a Mikaelson things may have turned out different'.
'Matt it's not like that okay, you being a Mikaelson wouldn't have changed anything, we'd been together since were 12, you must my 1st everything and over time we grew apart'.
'We didn't grow apart, you grew apart from me, I never stopped loving you Elena but you stopped loving me'.
'That's not fair when we broke up you said that you felt the same way I did, that we were just going through the motions but we weren't the same people that we used to be'.
'I said that because I knew it was what you wanted to hear but I never felt that way, I would have fought for us for you'.
'Am I interrupting?'.
Elena and Matt looked at Elijah at the same time as he placed the glass of wine in front of Elena who looked at him as he smiled at her and then at Matt with an extended hand.
'It's good to see you again Matt'.
Matt looked at his hand and then at Elena before walking away, Elijah put his hand in his pocket and looked at Elena as she rose from her chair.
'Just give me a minute'.
He nodded as she ran after Matt.
'Matt'.
She finally caught up with him grabbing his arm forcing him to stop.
'You know I came here tonight because I thought maybe there was a chance we could start over and Jeremy mentioned you and Elijah but I thought maybe things didn't work out there the age difference would have been too complicated for you'.
'Age doesn't matter for us, what me and you had was beautiful young love but me and Elijah we have something different but that doesn't mean that I stopped loving you Matt.
You were my first love and you always will be, I will always care about you as a friend but even if I was single I wouldn't have wanted to be with you because I'm not the same girl you feel in love with when you were 12 after my parents died I changed and you know that.
'Are you happy?'.
He asked looking at her and she nodded.
'I'm the happiest I've been in a long time'.
'Then that's all the matters Elena'.
'Caroline you look exquisite'.
Told his wife as she walked out of their bathroom in royal blue Grecian style one shoulder maxi dress, that fit her body like a glove but also revealed the bump of her stomach and he looked at her as she smiled at him.
'Are you sure?'.
He asked as he took her hand and she smiled.
'I don't want to keep this a secret anymore, I want our family to know'.
She looked into his eyes as he placed his hand on her stomach.
'What changed your mind?'.
'You, I saw how happy you were at the scan and I know how excited you are and I want you to be able to share that excitement'.
He stared at her as he walked over to her as she stand by the car, stopping to tuck a curl behind her ear before leaning into kiss her.
'Your nervous'
He whispered and she nodded.
'Don't be nervous'.
He told her as he kissed her again, his lips lingering for a moment and then he pulled away smiling warmly at her as he placed his hand in hers.
They made their way through the party making small conversation with people that approached them, well not even them more Klaus who they would stop to talk art with while Caroline stood by his side proud that people seemed to want his opinion.
They were at the bar when Caroline spotted Tyler approaching them.
'Klaus it's good to see you'.
Caroline wasn't sure how Klaus would react to seeing Tyler again so she watched him carefully as Tyler extended his hand to him which Klaus looked at for a moment and then shook.
'Tyler, congratulations I would congratulation your fiancée'.
'My mum stole her away'
He replied looking away from Klaus but at Caroline more at her stomach and he smiled.
'It seems I should be congratulating you two, another addition to your family'.
'I'm actually glad I ran into the two of you now, I owe both an apology for how I acted when the two of you started dating I was a dick and I know that now.
I had no right to judge what you had considering how I treated you Caroline and I am truly sorry for that and I hope that this can be a fresh start for all of us.
Hayley really likes you and I'm glad she made a friend here'.
Caroline looked at Tyler with a smile.
'I accept your apology, Hayley is special Tyler please don't screw what you have up'.
'Oh I won't she has 6 brothers who have already told me what will happen if I hurt there little sister'.
'Should my ears be burning?'.
Klaus looked past Tyler and towards the woman that approached.
'You must be Hayley'.
Klaus greeted her with a kiss on the cheek.
'Another accent now I don't feel so out of place'.
She said with a small laugh.
'Hayley this is my husband Klaus'.
'It's a pleasure to meet you'.
'You too, I'm sorry do you mind if I steal him away he's been talking to everyone most of the evening and he owes me several dances'.
Hayley asked looking at Tyler who smiled back at her.
'Of course not this is your night, enjoy it'.
'Here's where you've all been hiding'.
Klaus commented as he joined the others at the table they were sitting at outside.
'We haven't been hiding, we've been dancing'.
Rebekah told him with a small laugh.
'Where's the women that put this beautiful party together'.
'She's on her way over, she just had to make sure everything was perfection'.
'Always the perfectionist that wife of yours, is there any chance she may have of that perfection left to for Bonnie and I'.
'That would be telling brother but I do know she has something in mind for the two of you'.
He replied with a wink.
'Oh there she is'.
Rebekah commented noticing Caroline walking towards the table, Klaus watched his sisters face as she stared at Caroline and then she looked at him and then back at Caroline.
'Is she?'.
Rebekah whispered so only Klaus could hear and he looked at her with a smile.
Caroline walked behind Klaus who smiled up at her.
'So I'm glad you are all sitting together because we actually have some news, that we've been putting off sharing with you for a while'.
'Well from the expression on Nik's face and the smile on yours we can only assume its good news'.
Kol commented and Klaus nodded at his brother
'It's the best news, do you want to tell them or should I?'.
He asked looking at Caroline.
'I think its best we show them'.
'Show us, what exactly are we supposed to be looking for?'.
Stefan asked as Caroline moved from behind Klaus turning her body only slightly so that the small bump of her stomach was illuminated by the candle light.
'You're pregnant'.
Bonnie exclaimed standing up to embrace her friend along with Rebekah and Elena who winked at Caroline who winked back.
'Congratulations big brother, that baby has no idea how lucky they are'.
Kol told Klaus who nodded.
'It's babies actually not baby, we're expecting twins'.
'Twins'.
Rebekah asked as she pushed Klaus out of his chair so that Caroline could sit down.
'Yes twins, we only found out today'.
'That's why you seemed so distracted earlier'.
Elena asked Caroline who nodded.
'Yeah I was completely thrown when the doctor told us, I still am I guess I just didn't want to keep it secret from all of you anymore'.
Rebekah nodded in understanding.
'Well as someone who has been pregnant with twins, I am always here if you need advice but honestly I know how scary it seems now but once you see them all that fear will seem so worth it.
I can't describe the feeling I had when I looked at Alexa and Lexi for the first time it was like nothing I'd ever felt before'.
'It's Lydia I'm worried about I don't want her to feel any less loved by us because of the new babies, she will always be my baby girl, she's my first born the love I have for her will never change but she's so young and depends on us so much'.
'I don't think she will she loves Noah and he isn't even her siblings, she will love her new sisters or brothers or brother and sister.
I don't think that girl has unloving bone in her body'.
Bonnie told her friend squeezing her hand.
'Have you told your mum yet, she must be thrilled?'.
Elena asked.
'Not yet but next week she wants to have dinner with us so we'll tell her then'.
'She's going to be over the moon'.
'I know, I just wish my dad was here'.
Caroline admitted she rarely spoke about her dad but since she returned from London she had found herself thinking about him.
She felt Klaus squeeze her shoulders comfortingly.
'Home sweet home'.
Caroline said as she walked into the house, her heels in her hand as Klaus walked in behind her.
She opened her clutch taking out the personal check that Carol Lockwood had given her for her services.
'I think I'm going to frame this'.
She said as Klaus put his arms around her and chuckled in her ear.
'I'm so proud of you'.
'I'm proud of me too'.
She said letting out a small yawn.
'Go upstairs, I'll lock up down here and join you'.
He whispered dropping a kiss to her shoulder.
By time Klaus got upstairs, Caroline was already asleep, he smiled at the sight of her sleeping.
He changed out of his clothes throwing them into the hamper, along with her dress that she had left at the end of their bed.
He climbed into the bedside as she turned over to face him, he leaned into kiss her once before putting his arm around her.
Hearing her sigh as she instinctively moved closer to him her head resting against his shoulder.
'Goodnight sweetheart'.
He whispered as he stroked her hair.
'I love you'.
He heard her whisper staring at her to find her eyes closed but a small smile on her lips.
'Love you too'.
Sorry for the wait again but I will be updating this story every two weeks from now.
