What Do I do When I Am So In Love With You?
Everyone knew it was no longer fall, winter had arrived and had brought the crisp cold air and a fresh dusting of snow.
Parents made sure their children where wrapped up warmly from the winter chill while others scrapped ice from their windshields.
Some children excited by the snow where happily making snow men or throwing snowballs at their parents who soon joined in on the fun.
'Morning Klaus'.
Klaus waved at his neighbour Chris who was building a snowman with his daughter who waved at Klaus as he collected the mail before heading back into the warmth of his house and to the warmth of his bed where Caroline lay.
'Good morning beautiful'.
He whispered as he kissed the tip of her nose.
'Hey you'.
She replied as she opened her eyes.
'I'm sorry I missed our date'.
He told her as he climbed into the bed beside her, smiling as she moved closer to him as close as her stomach would allow.
'It's okay, I was worried about you, you didn't call and you usually call'.
'Sorry I was with Kol, he needed someone to talk to'.
'Is he okay'.
Klaus shrugged.
'He moved out of the house, I guess things between him and Bonnie haven't been getting better'.
'I don't understand I know Bonnie is upset but I expected them to work it out not for Kol to just give up'.
Klaus shook his head at her words.
'He didn't give up'.
'Hey little man'.
Kol said to Noah who crawled towards him fully dressed as he opened the front door, Bonnie looked at him as he walked in and smiled as Kol kissed his son and then looked at her which made her look away.
'I've packed his bag with enough nappies for the day, two changes of clothes, three bottles, finger food and two jars of food for him'.
'You didn't need to do that I have all that stuff at the apartment'.
'I wasn't sure so I just thought just in case you didn't have anything I'd be prepared, what are you going to do with him?'.
'I thought I'd take him down to the park feed some ducks, let him see his 1st ever snow, I even got him this little snow suit when I was shopping with Klaus for things for the twins'.
'That's cute, could you send me pictures'.
'Sure, do you want me to bring him back at a certain time or are you coming to pick him up'.
Bonnie could hear the sadness in his tone and it broke her heart to see how much Kol missed Noah even though he gets to see him every day at night when he puts Noah down he goes back to his apartment where he greeted by silence while she can hear their sons gentle sleeping breaths through the baby monitor.
It's not what either of them had expected or wanted but ever since they told her grams they were engaged something had changed and it wasn't Kol fault.
It was her own, she had let herself be affected by what had been said and then finding out that her mother had started a whole new family after leaving behind other family it made it worse at first she was fine after she found out but then she started to push Kol away until that night.
'What are you doing?'.
She asked as she walked into their room to find him packing a bag.
'I can't do this Bonnie, it's clear you don't want me around, we're supposed to be engaged planning our wedding but whenever I bring it up you change the subject or make any excuse to get away from me'.
'It's not like that I'm just busy with Noah or I'm tired'.
'Don't use him as an excuse, just be honest with me when I try and be close to you, you push me away'.
'Is this about sex?'.
She asks and he shakes his head at her.
'Partly yes but I want you to be honest with me'.
'I am being honest with you, you go to work and leave me with him for most of the day and when you come home.
You get to play with him while I cook, you bath him while I clean and then when you put him down to sleep I am too tired to do anything let alone talk about a wedding or be with you'.
He stares at her for the longest time silence falls between them and even as he stares at her she avoids his gaze and he sighs wearily looking at his bag and then he zips it closed as he puts it on his shoulder and walks over to her.
'I love you Bonnie but something is broken here and I want us to be us again but I don't think right now.
Maybe your grams was right we rushed into this to fast from dating to parents to being engaged it was too much for us, for you'.
So I'm going back to my apartment but I'll be back in the morning for when Noah wakes up we need to keep the routine for him you know babies can sense change'.
She nodded at him.
'You don't need to go Kol, I want to be your wife I do'.
Kol chuckled but it was full of sadness.
'You're not wearing your ring'.
He replies as he leans into kiss her, his lips lingering against hers, she can feel the wetness on his cheek and then he walks away.
'You should keep him for the night, I know you come home but he missed at night he hasn't been sleeping through the night last few days I've had to bring him into our bed, I mean bed with me'.
'Okay, thanks'.
'One black coffee with two extra shots'.
Elena looked up from the table as Liam placed a cup of coffee in front of her.
'Thank you I'm dead on my feet, I can't wait to go home and sleep'.
'Hey we've all been there but it was an experience right being here in the midst of it all'.
Elena nodded.
'Yeah it was I mean getting to experience everything during the day it's different but at night this place it's so surreal I can't even describe it'.
Liam nodded as he took a sip of his own coffee.
'Well enjoy while it last once you become a fully-fledged doctor you'll long for the days you were a simple mid student'.
Elena smiled as she felt her phone start to vibrate in her bag.
'The real world calls excuse me'.
Liam nodded as she took her phone out of bag and walked away from the table.
'Hey Bonnie what's up?'.
Elena asked with a smile.
'Hey sorry I know you practically just finished a night shift but I was hoping you would join me on a trip to Charlotte'.
'You found your mum?'.
Elena asked.
'Yeah can you believe it this whole time she's only been a 4 hour car ride away'.
'No I can't but of course I'll come with you, you didn't even need to ask, I'm going to head home shower put gas in my car and then I'll be over'.
'Great thanks Elena you're a good friend'.
Elena smiled at Bonnie's words.
'I'll see you soon'.
Elena ended the call and then turned back to the table where Liam was just finishing up a call of his own.
'You okay?'.
He asked as she sat back at the table.
'Yeah looks like my plans to sleep have to wait until later I'm heading to Charlotte'.
'What's in Charlotte?'.
'Somebody I used to know'.
'That is the last box of her stuff'.
Caroline announced as she walked downstairs with a box of Lydia's toy which Klaus took from her once she neared the bottom of the stairs.
'So 4 rooms down 2 go'.
He said as he placed the box with the other which Lydia was trying to unpack them before giving up and going back to playing with her bricks.
'I can't believe that by this time Saturday we will be in our new house'.
'Yes we will, I almost forgot we haven't measured you yet'.
Klaus said as he took her hand and led her into the living room where a large sheet of paper had been tacked to the wall.
'Stand right there'.
He told her as he grabbed the tape measure and a pen from the hallway.
She smiled as he kneeled down in front of her, gazing up at her and then looking at the wall as he traced the outline of her stomach onto the paper and wrote 5 months above it.
'5 months'.
He whispered and she smiled.
'Do you think they are happy in there?'.
She asked him
'Hey little ones are you happy in there?'.
His voice soft as he spoke to her stomach and then rested his head against it and smile.
'They said they are very happy and that they love you very much'.
He told her as she played with his curls.
'I love them too'.
She replied back as he wrapped the tape measure around her stomach.
'Wow 36 inches'.
He wrote the number against the line and then stood up to smile at her as she looked at the chart.
'I can't wait to meet them'.
'Thanks for doing this Elena, I don't think I could have done this on my own'.
Bonnie told Elena as she drove and Elena nodded.
'Did you tell Kol?'.
'No, it's still weird between us I love him that's never going to change but I pushed him away.
I can't be mad that he moved out I might as well have packed his bags for him but I miss him'.
'Then why don't you ask him to come home'.
'I can't not until I speak to her and then I'll figure out where to go from there'.
Elena nodded as Bonnie looked out onto the unfamiliar streets they had been driving for the last 4 hours had arrived in Charlotte just after 1, the snow that fell in Virginia seemed to have passed over Charlotte as the sun was high in the sky.
As Elena parked the car and then looked at Bonnie who was staring at a woman walking hand in hand with a man while he pushed along a stroller an easy smile on his face.
'What are you smiling about Miss Bennett?'.
Kol asked as Bonnie held his hand as he pushed the stroller while Noah slept and she shrugged.
'I'm happy'.
Kol smiled stopping to kiss her hand.
'Here's a secret I'm happy too'.
Elena didn't miss the tear the rolled down her friend's cheek and sighed softly as Bonnie looked at her.
'I want that back'.
Elena nodded as she took Bonnie's hand.
'I know'.
'Lydia is that uncle Kol'.
Klaus asked as he played outside in the snow with Lydia who was fascinated with it and had taken to rolling in it while Caroline sat on the steps with a blanket wrapped around her and a cup of hot chocolate in her hands.
Lydia smiled and waved her hands excitedly as Kol walked over to her.
'Is it me or is your daughter getting more beautiful'.
Kol asked looking at Lydia who was staring at Noah the two of them babbling away at each other in a conversation that none of the adults understood and Klaus nodded.
'It is true she gets more beautiful every time I look at her but then she gets that from her mother'.
He replied winking at Caroline who blushed.
'What brings you round?'.
Klaus asked Kol as he watched Lydia placed her small hands on Noah's face and kissed his nose.
She had become very affectionate lately and was kissing everyone.
'Well he just woke up from a nap and I'm heading over to the park, I thought you'd both like to join us unless you have plans already'.
Kol told Klaus as he sat beside Caroline who had her resting on his shoulder.
'That sounds like a good idea but how about you and Lydia join Kol and Noah while I start to packing our clothes I mean we have too many clothes'.
'You mean you have too many clothes'.
Klaus commented which made Kol chuckle and Caroline nodded.
'Fine I have to many clothes and not a lot of time before we move, so you go have fun at the park and call me when you're on way back and I'll order dinner, Kol that means to you too'.
Kol nodded as Klaus stood up and scooped Lydia into his arms much to her delight.
'Let me change her and we'll be ready to go'.
'So he told me you moved out of the house, I'm sorry Kol'.
Kol shook his head as he sat beside her and looked at Noah who smiled at him as Kol touched his feet.
'It's okay'.
'Do you miss her?'.
Kol looked at her and nodded.
'Of course I miss her, I miss them both you know.
I wake up at night and she's not beside me I can't go across the hall and check on this one because he's not there, I'm alone'.
'You are never alone Kol and I'm sure Bonnie misses you too, she's crazy about you but she's clearly going through something right now that we really don't understand and I know she stopped wearing her ring but Kol trust me all she could talk about before all of this craziness was how much she couldn't wait to be your wife so you need to remember that because she does want to be your wife even if it doesn't seem like it right now she does'.
'What am I doing here?'.
Bonnie asked as her and Elena sat outside a small restaurant.
'You wanted to see your mum'.
Elena reminded her.
'Exactly I wanted to see my mum, the woman who walked out of my life and has made no effort to be a part of my life but here I am.
She walks out on my life and I'm seeking her out, she should be the one who should come to me not the other way round.
I'm her daughter not her mother'.
'I thought you wanted answers'.
Elena questioned and she nodded.
'I do want answers but are these answer worth me ruining what I have with Kol ever since my Grams and I had that argument.
I've been questioning everything I do and in doubting myself I pushed Kol away so much that he couldn't even stand to be in the same house as me and I didn't even attempt to stop him even though I wanted to I thought it would be better if he was gone but it's not been better'.
'Why didn't you stop him?'.
Elena asked and she shrugged.
'I don't know but I miss him so much, this morning when he came over for Noah and he asked me when he should bring Noah back I felt so bad Elena, I made him like he has scheduled time with his son and I never wanted him to feel that way, I'm selfish I don't deserve him'.
'You need to be telling him all of this Bonnie, he's been a crazy about you for years and when he finally got you he stepped messing around.
He's made all these choice because he wants to be with you and right now I think he needs to know how you feel because pushing him away like you have won't make it any better, so it's up to you we can stay here and you can go and talk to your mum about why she left or we can finish are meal and go home so you can save your own relationship, it's up to you'.
Caroline stared at the boxes of clothes that now filled her bedroom, she had been working hard to clear out the closet leaving only a few clothes for both her and Klaus for the next few days.
Half the clothes she had ended up boxing where clothes she hadn't even got around to wearing and hard marked those boxes as her post pregnancy wardrobe, one box had been dedicated to clothes she wanted to pass on to Lydia including her prom dress and Miss Mystic Falls dress.
She only hoped that when Lydia reached that age she would want to compete in Miss Mystic Falls not that she would put that pressure on her daughter.
Her wedding dress was hanging on the back of the door along with Klaus's wedding suit.
She couldn't believe how close their 2nd anniversary was and laughed at how ironic it was that she would be pregnant on the date of their 2nd anniversary.
Looking over at the bedside table at their wedding photo.
All the photos had been taken expect for one of the happy couple on their own
'If you could stand just there'
The photograph instructed but Klaus stared at his wife, Caroline Forbes was no longer his girlfriend or fiancée.
No she was now Caroline Forbes Mikaelson his wife.
'Do you think you can stand for a few more photos?'.
Klaus asked as he kissed her on the cheek.
'I'd say yes but I'd be lying'.
Klaus smiled kissing her again before talking off his jacket and laying it on the floor beside the tree they stood beneath.
'Could you give us a minute?'.
He said looking at the photographer who nodded.
'What are you doing?'.
Caroline asked as he took her hand.
'Making the right adjustment so that my wife is comfortable in our 1st photo as husband and wife'.
'Your wife'.
She smiled at the sound as he helped her sit down her back resting against his chest as his head rested on her shoulder, one hand on her stomach while she held her flowers gazing up at him as he held her other hand in his own.
They didn't even realise the photographer had been taking their photos too lost in each other.
'I love you my husband'.
She whispered and he smiled as he raised their entwined hands to his lips.
'As I love you my love, my wife'.
'Thanks for joining me today Nik I needed it time with my son'.
Klaus nodded as Kol pulled up behind his car.
'Anytime brother, I am always here for you'.
He replied.
'Do you think you'll work it out?'.
'I hope so I love her but it's not up to me it's up to her and right now I don't what she wants'.
Klaus nodded as he looked at the house and saw the delivery driver standing at the door.
'She's must have fallen asleep?'.
He commented as he got out of the car and unbuckled Lydia from her car seat and took her out of the car holding her hand as he walked towards the delivery guy while Kol followed behind with Noah who patted his face.
'How much do I owe you?'.
Klaus asked the driver who handed him two bags while Kol took hold of Lydia's hand.
'$28.50'.
Klaus handed him a few notes and the guy looked at the money then back at him.
'Thanks'.
He walked away while Klaus opened the front door and walked into the house.
Putting the bags of food into the kitchen while Kol got Noah out of his snowsuit and put him down where he started to crawl after Lydia who wandered into the living room.
'I'm going to wake her up'.
Kol nodded as Klaus headed upstairs.
'Caroline didn't you hear the door?'.
He asked as he walked into their bedroom to find Caroline.
'Caroline'.
He rushed to her side.
'Caroline can you hear me'.
His voice panicked as he got on response from her seeing her phone resting on the bed he picked it up quickly.
'I need an ambulance'.
Bonnie stared at the familiar streets as Elena drove through Mystic Falls.
When she heard her phone ringing and looked at it.
'It's Kol'.
She said and Elena smiled.
'Hey Kol'.
Bonnie answered with a smile which slowly faded.
'When, is she okay?, I'm with Elena were on our way'.
She ended the call and looked at Elena.
'What's wrong?'.
'It's Caroline she's in the hospital'.
Klaus didn't know how long he had spent pacing back and forth waiting for news on Caroline on their babies.
Caroline had remained unconscious when ambulance arrived and once they got to the hospital she was rushed away from him leaving him alone.
Seeing her lying on the floor like that was an image that would never leave his mind, it was clear from how he found her see had tried to protect her stomach during the fall.
'Klaus'.
He turned around to find Elena standing behind him and then he was embracing her.
'Kol called and told me and Bonnie what happened I just dropped her off at the house
What happened is she okay?'.
She asked and Klaus shook his head.
'I don't know what happened I was with Kol and we came back from the park and I just found her on the floor.
Nobody has told me anything, I can't lose her Elena, I can't'.
Elena embraced him again as he started to cry.
''Mr Mikaelson'.
Klaus looked up as a doctor approached him and Elena.
'Is my wife okay?'.
He asked and the doctor nodded.
'She's fine and is doing very well as your son and daughter'.
'Son and daughter?'.
The doctor looked at Klaus realising his mistake
'I'm sorry'.
Klaus shook his head.
'What happened?'.
'She fainted which isn't unusual during pregnancy usually caused by vertigo, I have told your wife that she must be on bed rest for the next few days'.
'She will be'.
Klaus replied as the doctor patted his arm.
'You can go see her now'.
He told him before walking away and Klaus looked at Elena.
'Go, I'll let Kol and Bonnie know'.
'That's great thanks Elena'.
Bonnie ended the call and looked at Kol who returned to the room after finally getting Lydia to sleep after she spent a good 40 minutes crying for her mum
'Caroline and the twins are perfectly fine there all going to be okay'.
She told him as her voice broke and he hugged instinctively.
'I'm sorry'.
'You're worried about your best friend you have nothing to be sorry for'.
He told her as she looked at him.
'Not for this but for letting you leave that night, I'm sorry for not letting you in and for making you doubt whether I wanted to be with you because I do Kol more than anything.
I want to be your wife if you still want me too'.
Kol looked at her wiping a tear away with his thumb.
'That's all I've wanted but promise me anytime you feel like it's too much you'll talk to me I don't care how stupid you think it is just talk to me don't shut me out again'.
Bonnie nodded as she kissed his hand.
'Promise'.
'Open your eyes sweetheart'.
She felt the familiar touch on her cheek, she opened her eyes squinting at the florescent light and then she saw him sitting next her stroking her face as he stroked her stomach with the other hand.
'How are you feeling?',
He asked as he kissed her his forehead resting against hers.
'Okay, are the babies okay?'.
She asked tears in her eyes and he nodded.
'Our son and daughter are perfect'.
'What'.
She her voice soft as a tear rolled down her cheek.
'We're having a boy and a girl Caroline, I love you so much'.
'I love you too, I'm sorry for scaring you'.
Klaus shook his head as he kissed her forehead.
'It's okay just don't do it again, I don't know what I'd do if I lost you'.
'I'm not going anywhere'.
A boy and a girl how cute is that.
So a simple chapter and no this wasn't the sadness I was talking about you'll know that when it comes.
So now you know what Caroline and Klaus are having are you happy with the choice as for names I have a few choices that in mind but in the next chapter Klaus and Caroline will be discussing potential names and Henry and Liz will met for the 1st so until next time enjoy.
