... Well, I'm back. Hello. Don't shoot me? Even though I deserve it. Here's the chapter. Hopefully, I'll keep updating this and it won't just drift off again. I have a lot of inspiration for this story, just no drive, I guess. Anyway, I don't own Supernatural or Hetalia and I never will. Enjoy.
Sam woke up to loud music playing from the radio beside the bed. He glanced over and saw Dean already standing, dressed and packing guns into his bag which was resting on the table. The younger brother sat up and looked around. "Why didn't you wake me up already?"
"Because you seemed to be sleeping well, so…" Dean shrugged, not looking at his little brother. "Antonio called me. He wants us to meet him at their hotel in a few minutes. They're right across the street. Room twenty-six. Get dressed. Hurry."
"I wouldn't have to rush if you'd woke me up on time, Dean." Sam muttered under his breath before standing up and going to the bathroom to get dressed. He reemerged a few minutes later and packed his own weapons into a bag. Dean was already walking out the door. Sam hurried to catch up, looking at his brother confused. Dean never forgot to wake him up, and he definitely never walked out without him. They were a team; they worked together. Dean was acting strangely, probably offset by meeting up with Lovino again. The little Italian boy had a knack for causing his brother to stress more than necessary. When the two got in the Impala, a third voice caused both to whirl around in surprise.
"Hello, Dean." Castiel sat in the backseat, trench coat hanging in tatters off his shoulders from the last case they'd worked. "I see you've met with Lovino again. How is he?"
"Well, he doesn't seem to be doing too well, Cas. I don't know that he's as well off with Antonio as we first thought he was." Sam said. Dean was silent, staring at the other before turning around and starting the engine. Sam continued, "We're going to try to work this case with him to see if we can help him, but I don't know if he'll even go for it."
"I see…" the angel muttered.
"Is Antonio in love with him?" Dean suddenly asked. The entire car went silent for a moment, no one actually speaking.
Sam was basically in shock that Dean had actually asked that. Besides the fact that Dean had never really been a fan of relationships, and had always shown discomfort at the mention of same-sex relationships. Sam had a theory that his brother might be bisexual, but nothing had ever explicably confirmed that. Nothing had refuted it, either.
"I don't know, Dean." Castiel murmured. "You'd have to ask him that. But, I do know that he cares for him. He wouldn't have stuck around if he didn't, right? That's the way humans are. They stay with the ones they care about, no matter what. Like you two. You always stick together."
"Don't count yourself out of that Cas. You're part of this family, too." Dean turned around in his seat to look at the angel. Sam turned and looked out the window, feeling he was eavesdropping on an incredibly private moment. He stared out the window, waiting for the two to snap out of it.
Eventually, the car pulled out of the parking space and over toward the other motel across the street. Dean found a parking spot beside the familiar fiery red Ferrari and immediately stepped out of the vehicle. Sam watched as his brother walked towards the motel. He looked behind him and saw Castiel still sitting still in the back, making no move to follow.
"Hey? Aren't you coming in with us?" Sam asked, opening the door.
"Yes, of course." Cas muttered. Sam watched him disappear only to reappear beside him. The two walked toward the room together. After a few steps, Cas asked, "Sam, can I ask you a question?"
"Sure…" Sam said, pausing and looking over at his angelic friend.
"I'm not sure how to word this, but I feel Dean has been acting strangely lately. He's been quieter around me and I keep getting this strange sensation around him. I don't know exactly how to explain it, but… I feel that he feels it too and that's why he's acting different whenever I'm around."
"He hasn't really been himself lately, I agree with you. But Cas, I don't know if it has anything to do with you."
Sam thought for a moment. Dean had seemed more uncomfortable and fidgety ever since they'd left Kearny a few weeks ago. Sam had left him alone while looking around in a supposedly haunted house and when he came back, Cas was there and Dean was very embarrassed. Sam had no clue what had gone down in there, but something most certainly had. So maybe Cas said something to him. He didn't know, but one thing he was certain of was that they had more to worry about then Dean's less than heterosexual tendencies toward the angel.
Castiel sighed. "I'll try to talk to him later. I'll meet all of you tonight back in your hotel."
Sam wasn't given a chance to reply before the angel disappeared again. Sighing, the tall man followed his brother's path into the hotel room. Lovino was sitting at the table, sharpening a knife. Antonio was standing beside him, packing their bag full of salt cartridges and whatever else the two might need. Dean was standing with his arms crossed, looking a bit impatient.
"Thanks for joining us, Sammy." he growled out, then turned to Antonio. "What did you want from us, exactly? Are you two staying to work with us or not?"
"Yes." Antonio said, smiling at him, unaware of his harsh tone. "I convinced Lovi this morning that working together was in all of our best interests."
"For the millionth time today, that is not my fucking name." Lovino said, true to his petulant character. "And, I'm doing it for Antonio, not for you guys. I could care less what happens to you, and I'm not putting my ass on the line to save yours. Got it?"
Sam nodded slightly. "I guess we can understand that, Lovino."
"Well, you're going to have to. Or else no deal." He frowned slightly, then nodded to Antonio. "Alright, tell them what we found out this morning."
"Okay!" Antonio looked over at them before picking up a newspaper and showing them the cover. "There was another death late last night. It was completely normal heart attack, like every other time. The person was a young man, about thirty with no prior health problems. They brought the body to the morgue. I called the doctor there and she said the body hasn't shown any strange indications so far, but she's worried because they usually don't start waking up until nightfall. So, she wants us to come down and examine the body ourselves."
"So, most likely it will rise up and start walking around tonight?" Dean asked, crossing his arms.
"Yes," Lovino said. "then we can stay overnight and try to bring the creature down again."
"We're also forgetting that there is a body still up and wandering around somewhere else." Antonio added. "They never found the last one. It disappeared after killing its family."
"So, we need to find that body, too?" Sam asked. "I feel like that's pretty important, in case it, you know, kills again. If we could trap the other, then we can look around for that one until we find the one that's running around. I feel like it's more of a threat."
"I don't think so, Sammy. It's been a few days since the last incident, and the body hasn't shown up again. The one in the morgue will probably wake up tonight and try to kill people. I say, we go there first. After we take that one out, then we can go looking for the other body."
"I see your point Dean, but…"
"I agree with Sam." Antonio suddenly piped in. "The one on the loose poses more of a threat than the one in the morgue. We can tie it up while it's still dead, then go looking for the one that's walking around freely. There's woods all around this area. It could be anywhere. We need to go after it."
"Obviously we can't just pretend it doesn't exist." Lovino said. "But it hasn't done anything yet, so why should we go chasing it down, when we could get some answers from this body? Besides, tying it up isn't going to do anything. It'll break out of that easily."
"We could always just split up." Dean suggested, shrugging slightly. "Obviously, there needs to be someone at the morgue tonight, but Sammy's right. We need to get rid of the other one before it kills again."
Sam looked over at his brother a bit surprised, then nodded in agreement. When he looked at Lovino again, however, he realized how angry the little Italian looked. He glared at Dean, face going a bit red before he slowly stood up.
"You expect me to send my partner away with one of you, again?"
Sam immediately looked to Dean again, who also stood, stepping forward and glaring down at the younger boy. "Yes. If you'll remember correctly, we were all there when he died, so I wouldn't be placing blame on any specific person."
"Feliciano and me shouldn't have been there in the first place. If you'll remember, you dragged us into it."
"Who's Feliciano…?" Antonio suddenly asked, his voice quiet compared to the other two bickering hunters.
Lovino turned around and looked at him, then shook his head. "You don't need to worry about that." He then looked back at Dean again. "Alright. We'll do it your way. I'll go with you, and Antonio will go with Sam. Sound good?"
Dean nodded and looked over at Sam. "You alright with that?"
Sam nodded, watching Antonio for a moment. The man looked incredibly confused, like he wanted to ask more questions but didn't know the best way to broach the subject. Eventually, the Spaniard sighed and looked at Sam. He smiled ever so slightly at him, then mumbled his consent as well.
"Good." Dean muttered, before heading out of the hotel. Antonio started to follow him, until Lovino grabbed his arm.
"Hey, bastardo. You be careful out there, alright? Don't do anything stupid." the Italian ordered.
Antonio stared at him, a little bit surprised. "Alright, Lovi. I promise. You be careful, too."
The two stared at each other for a moment, and for the second time that day Sam felt the need to look away from what appeared to be an exceedingly private moment. When they finally broke away, Sam followed the two outside, shutting the door behind him. Dean was already in the Impala, waiting on them. He appeared to be in such a rush recently, but Sam didn't give this much thought.
Lovino stared at him for a moment before turning to Sam and handing him a set of keys. He scowled threateningly as he said, "If you wreck my car, I will kill you."
Sam didn't doubt this for a second. "I've been driving for a long time, I think I can handle it."
"I'm just saying, be careful with her."
"Where'd you get this car, anyway?" Sam questioned. "Surely you didn't buy it yourself."
"It was my grandfather's. He bought it two weeks before he died."
Sam nodded in understanding, then took the keys. He and Antonio slipped into the Ferrari just as Dean and Lovino drove away. Antonio stared forward for a moment as Sam started the engine. As they started down the road, Antonio turned to him.
"Who is Feliciano?"
Sam glanced at him for a moment before turning his eyes back to the road. He hesitated for a moment before deciding to answer the man's questions. "He was Lovino's brother. We all worked a case together about a month ago, but it didn't end well. Feliciano died. It was our fault really. We pulled them into the case, and if we had possibly been a little smarter, things might have worked out better for all of us."
"That…" Antonio trailed off, slumping down in the seat. "That explains so much."
Sam didn't offer any more information, the car falling into silence as they sped down the road. Finally, Sam broke it again. "Do you have the address of the last murders?"
"Yes…" Antonio opened the glove box and dug around a bit, before pulling out a piece of paper with some writing scrawled on it. He read off the address to the driver and Sam stepped on the gas. He drove toward their destination, hoping that his brother and Lovino would be safe.
