I deeply apologize to my readers. I know that it has been a really long time since I last updated this, but my life has been a bit crazy since the beginning of the year seeing as I moved to a different state, moved into a new apartment and have been working full time hours at my new job. So i am giving you the chapter I have been working on for all that time.
Love you,
O.S. Hamlin
As I paced around the living room as I thought about all the things that had gone on since I had found out I was only Sookie and Jason's half sister. We had gone to Dallas to 'assist' Eric and a nest there. I had met a vampire older than Eric and came to understand that, though vampires were in fact killers and such, that some of them with time wish to atone for what they have done. I had also told Sookie about the fact that I was also a werewolf. It had seemed important, to me for her to know so know she did. I took a deep breath and headed outside to help Sookie with getting blood out of one of the rugs from inside the house. Apparently a werewolf came into the house to attack and get Sookie when I had been out getting somethings together. Though I didn't like it, I was thankful that Eric had been there and that Sookie had a gun on hand. I knelt down beside her and started to scrub. Then I heard a man walking toward the house. Not only his thoughts but his steps too.
That must be her. The other one must be the sister. He was thinking. I wanted to get Sookie in the house and away from whoever it was.
Sookie slowly get up and go into the house and don't move again until I get you. Now. I thought at her quickly. Thankfully she listened.
Blonde and pretty no wonder the girls a magnet for trouble. He continued.
I continued scrubbing then sat up a bit. I took a look behind me and squeaked/screamed. He was bigger than I had anticipated so I quickly got up and ran to get into the house. But he seemed to be a bit faster. Stupid long legged men.
"Hey hold on." He said while getting onto the porch and to the door.
"Get your hands off of me." I said as his arms firmly gripped around me easily, though I still struggled.
"Hold still I ain't tryin' to hurt you." He said.
"I know your a werewolf, I've been around vampires. I'll kick your ass." I yelled and he laughed. LAUGHED.
"Listen Eric Northman's the one who sent me." He said. I stopped a bit and looked at him surprised. "My name is Alcide Herveaux, I'm here to look after you."
I stayed silent for a moment and looked at the ground before looking back up into his eyes.
"Will you let go of me now?" I asked him.
"Are you going to try to hit me?" He asked in return.
"I maybe small but I'm not stupid." I said to him. "Besides I think it's Sook you are here to look after, not me."
He let me go but his eyes didn't leave me. Then he sniffed the air a bit.
"I hope you don't do that around normal people, because it makes you seem like well a dog." I said.
"You aren't like your sister are you?" He asked.
"No I'm not. Speaking of my little sister." I said. Sook, it's safe Eric sent him. I thought directly at her.
Not long after Sookie came from upstairs and she ushered us into the kitchen. Alcide sat down and I stood by the sink watching him while Sookie made herself and Alcide something to drink since I didn't want anything.
"You know I would have liked to know that you were planing some kind of suicide mission Sookie. I also wish Eric hadn't gone to lengths to gets you an over-sized body guard." I said. No matter how sexy he is. I thought after. "I am plenty capable of protecting you, seeing as I am also a werewolf."
Sookie chuckled a bit at my thought's before speaking.
"I didn't know he was going to send anyone. I just told him I wanted to got to Jackson to look for Bill."
"I really wish you wouldn't Sook. Vampires are bad news, especially for us." I told her. But she seemed to ignore me.
"The house is in no shape for guests I know, it's a long story." She said to Alcide as she placed a cup in front of him. "I'll tell you about it in the car."
I hear you read minds. That true. He thought as he looked at Sookie.
"Yes it is." She said.
"Same here giant man." I said raising my hand.
Son of a bitch! So we could have a whole conversation sitin' here with me calm shut. He thought as Sookie sat down across from him.
"Kind of rude with just the three of us." She said.
"But in a room full of strangers it might come in handy." I continued.
"I'll keep that in mind." He said looking a bit unsettled.
"Listen I know it's a bit, well out there but you and I can change into freaking animals." I told him. He looked at me and nodded a little.
"What I don't understand is, if you've had Eric's blood and all, why can't he look after you himself?" He asked.
"It's not like that. I'm not his." She told him. Then he looked at me.
"Oh no no no. Vampires are a no area for me. I only put up with the few Sookie knows. I ignore all others or kill them if they try to put their fangs in me." I said.
Then I walked over and took a seat at the table watching Alcide closely. If I hadn't have know about werewolves or been one myself, I still would have believed whoever told me he was one. Clearly he was strong and built.
Probably really good in bed. I thought forgetting about Sookie for a moment. That was until she sent a mental kick my way.
"So how'd he rope you into taking us to Jackson?" She asked him. She knew that wherever she went I was going so there was no sense in her trying to get around it in anyway.
"My old man, he's got a construction company in Cado Parish. Came up a little short on a project. Went to Northman for a loan." He said.
"Wouldn't be my first choice." Sookie said.
"Mine either, but sometimes things just need to be done." I said.
"Ya take what you can get. The only reason I'm here is to help him get out of debt." He said. "I don't do favors for vamps, plus I know the pack who's sniffin' around. You ain't getin' no where without an in."
"You friends with them." Sookie said.
"Just because he knows them doesn't mean their friends Sook. That's like saying because I know Eric he's my friend. Which he isn't." I said lightly.
"Wouldn't call them friends, exactly." He said. "My ex is bangin' their leader."
I looked at him wide eyed as I saw the vulnerable side of him. That bitch! I thought to myself.
"Sorry." Sookie and I said at the same time.
"That pack is a cancer to our kind." He said looking at me, before looking at Sookie again. "Weres have lived in Jackson for almost two hundreds years, without a single human knowin' it. Now these son-a-bitches come into town, there's a crime strike a mile wide. Not to say the rest of us are above violence but you shut the barn door behind you."
"One of them came after me last night. In here." Sookie said.
"Northman mentioned that. Looks like one hell of a fight. You gonna be ready for more of that in Jackson?" He asked.
"They took someone I love from me. I don't know about you but I was raised to fight back." Sookie said and I sighed.
"Great you'll be getting all of us killed." He said before taking a drink of his beverage.
"She won't be very useful when it comes to fightin'. So if it comes to it. I'm the bait for whatever. My adoptive father is a packmaster, he made sure I would never be defenseless." I said.
"I'll pack light." She said.
"And I'll pack my bat." I told them. Sookie looked at me hard for a moment. "What it works on wolves, trust me I used to have to use it when I lived in Rayville."
I got up and Sookie did the same, but she headed straight up stairs and I stayed in the kitchen until I heard her going threw her drawers. Then I quickly grabbed Alcides' wrist and pulled a bit to get him out of his seat and to follow me outside. Once I closed the door I looked up at him as he looked down at me somewhat confused.
"Listen I know you are going to do what you said you would do but, Sookie is my responsibility. I haven't been around for pretty much all of her life, so I'm compensating for it seeing as I have the ability to." I said to him. "So you can just be the handsome mass of muscle you know you are and just stay there."
"Handsome mass of muscle?" He questioned.
"Yes. If you have actually looked at me and into a mirror, you would notice I'm much smaller than your average female werewolf and you are a very large man. Who happens to be handsome." I said. "Now I'm going to get my things together before I dig myself into an even deeper hole."
I quickly went back inside and ran up the stairs and threw myself on my bed.
"Why did Eric have to send him?" I asked myself into my pillow. "Must not think about him. I have to be around for Sookie."
I got off my bed and moved around my room quickly grabbing clothes, underwear, lingerie as well as several other things and changed. I had been to a certain Bar in Jackson when my Papa had business there and I was sure that was where these 'cancerous' werewolves hung out. Once I finished I zipped up the bag and grabbed my silver bat. Then I headed down the stairs and headed outside and walked to the vehicle were Alcide was and climbed into the front seat. I looked at Alcide from the corner of my eye as we waited for Sookie. I didn't speak to him, mostly because I was afraid of saying something stupid, which was not a common occurrence for me, especially around men. Finally after what seemed like centuries Sookie joined us. Thankfully she filled the drive with enough chatter for both of us and I silently looked out the window as he drove. I did sort threw his thoughts suppress a chuckle every now and then, but other than that I kept his thoughts to myself. I could feel him look at me every so often but I only smiled to myself and didn't acknowledge it any other way.
It had only taken a handful of hours to get to Jackson, and Sookie wanted to jump right into finding Bill. So even with reluctance Alcide took us to Lou Pine's and though I told her she should change, Sookie remained in the cute white top and short jean skirt she was wearing. I shook my head as we walked into the bar. Once we did I subconsciously moved closer to Alcide. There were a lot of werewolf men here and even though I had only just recently met him I trusted Alcide more than them.
"It may not look like much but Lou Pines is the oldest were bar in Mississippi." Alcide said more for Sookie's sake than mine.
"Alcide." The bouncer, I guess you could call him, Hobbs said. Before giving him a friendly greeting. "It's nice to see a face from the old pack. And Milla, I didn't know your father was in town."
"He isn't." I said quickly not wanting to have people staring at me.
"You still haven't dyed that hair of yours?" He somewhat asked.
"Oh trusted me I've tried." I said giving him a chuckle and a smile as I continued to stick close to Alcide.
"I figured the new wolves were drinkin' enough for all of us." Alcide said after noting how close I was standing to him.
Then Hobbs' eyes moved to Sookie and he smile fell a bit.
"Who's the civilian?" He asked.
"She's good. She's a friend." Alcide said. I didn't add that she was my sister because that would likely just cause some issues.
"Am I not dressed properly?" Sookie asked.
I groaned and rested my head on Alcide's bicep, which was huge by the way. Now you're worried about what you're wearing even though I told you that you should change. I thought at her angrily. However she ignored me.
"You look like dinner." Hobbs replied to her.
"She does, because she doesn't listen." I said quietly, but I knew Hobbs had heard me.
"I'll keep an eye on her Hobbs." Alcide told him before letting Sookie and myself walk past Hobbs in front of him.
Once we were at the corner of the bar the three of us stopped.
"We're gonna have to split off." Alcide said. "They see you with me they ain't gonna talk."
"Or me. I'm a foreign wolf to them, they don't like that." I said to her.
"Where you goin' to be?" Sookie asked.
"With my guys. Well be watchin' you." Alcide said.
"I'm going to be wherever he is." I said nodding toward Alcide. There was no way I was getting anywhere near those other wolves, especially the male ones. No one was claiming me tonight, not if I had anything to say about it. Alcide nodded at me basically saying alright.
"You need to make it quick. For your own sake." He told her before he placed his hand gently on the middle of my back and guided my toward his guys.
All of whom looked at me with wide eyes. I sat down next to Alcide and looked around the bar, however keeping my focus on what Sookie was doing. Alcide got me a gin and tonic, and though it was not my favorite I was thankful for it.
"So why didn't you actually go with her?" He asked me, as I took a sip of my beverage. "Cuz you know as well as I do they would probably be more willin' to talk with you next to her."
"Well I don't trust werewolf men or any werewolves other than the ones I personally know or grew up with. They make me very uncomfortable and most of the time when they look at me it makes my skin crawl." I told him truthfully.
"Really?"
"Yep. I never really learned why, but I just kind of accepted it as a defense mechanism." I said.
"So your skin crawls when I look at you." He said. I never felt my heart stop faster in my life.
"No It doesn't." I said to him. "Not all wolves are like you. Your a gentleman, them not so much."
"So I'm not intimidating?" He asked. I sighed.
"Your making this difficult intentionally aren't you?" I asked narrowing my eyes at him a bit. "Trust me you are plenty intimidating. Like I said hours ago, your huge, but I trust that you aren't going to try to harm me or my sister."
He nods before taking a drink of his beer and focusing on something else. During that time I was bombarded with questions from his friends, who like Alcide, I was comfortable with, though maybe not as much. After a small amount of time my ears perked at thoughts I was hearing. Some of which had me out of my stool and heading to a back room before the scream left my sisters mouth.
"Hey jackass, keep your grime-y paws off my sister." I said after entering the room.
"On look another one. You can wait your turn honey." He said.
"Not another one, big man. The dangerous one." I said and started to bolt toward him before pausing and smiling evilly.
Then Alcide came barreling in and took things into his own hands. It wasn't too long until Alcide and the creepy guys fight moved into the main bar. I pulled Sookie along with me after I was sure that she was okay and once we followed I let go of her and walked over to the two men. I quickly found creepy guys scruff and gripped him by it digging my nails in deep. He growled in pain but since his focus was moved from Alcide it gave me the opportunity to get him off the large man who had brought my sister and my sister to this bar. I threw him away and then knelt down in front of Alcide to check his wounds.
"Milla!" Was the only thing I heard a couple of moments later. It had been Hobbs who said it and when he did I quickly turned around, my snow white hair fanning out as I did so, before everything went back while pain erupted in my skull.
I didn't know how long I had been out before I came around groaning. My hand went to my forehead and rubbed it a bit. It felt like I had been hit with a steel bat. After opening my eyes and taking in my surroundings, I heard Sookie and from the sound of it she was on the phone crying. Then there was a tap on the door and standing there was Alcide who was lacking a shirt.
"I came to grab a shirt." He said.
After a moment I nodded and he walked into the room and walked to the dresser and pulled out a clean shirt.
"I'm going to kill that vampire." I said darkly as I continued to listen to my sister on the phone.
"You really are going to protect her, aren't you." He said.
I looked back at him again with darkness and protection radiating from my small fame.
"I will protect her with my life if I must. Her and Jason are the only blood family that I have left." I told him.
"You are going to get yourself killed for someone you haven't known your whole life."
"I don't care. I'm her sister, its my duty to protect her."
"Even if it means losing yourself in the process?" He asked.
I paused and looked away before climbing out of the bed and walking over to stand in front of him.
"You don't know anything about me. But if losing myself means she stays safe then yes." I said. "I'm going to take a walk. Make sure she stays in the apartment."
With that I walked out of the room and quickly walked out of the apartment to find then men connected to the one who decided to attack Sookie.
There we go.
