Chapter Nineteen
Hotch noticed that Rossi was distracted and he knew why. He explained to Dave that the team was already there waiting for them. Dave told Hotch that they didn't have to be there but Hotch added that they wanted to be there with him.
"I am Supervisory Special Agent Rossi. These are SSA's Bainbridge, Prentiss, Hotchner and Morgan. This is Dr. Spencer Reid. And on keyboards today we have our technical analyst Ms. Penelope Garcia."
"Hi." Garcia said.
"Now in simple terms at the BAU we use behavioral science, research, casework and training to hunt down monsters, rapists, terrorists, pedophiles and our specialty serial killers." Rossi said and walked back to his place.
"Does anybody here know exactly what a serial killer is?" Morgan asked.
"Someone who's committed more than one murder." A student asked.
"That's very good. By statue, three is the magic number. But actually it's more qualitative than quantitative for us." Morgan stated.
"And today, we're going to talk about how some serial killers get made." Rossi said.
They gave information about this particular UnSub first two victims.
"One thing you should understand is that no two killers are the same. They each occupy their own point on the behavioral spectrum. Uh, genetics, brain chemistry, psychology, and environment are all factors."
"But we believe that this particular killer he grew up in an environment so adverse that he never had a chance." Hotch said
"He endured years of cruel and abject physical abuse." Prentiss added.
"As well as horribly profound psychological abuse." Hotch commented
"When he wasn't being ignored, he was being humilitated." Morgan stated.
"Now let me be clear most abused kids do not turn into killers. Not even all psychopaths become killers. But this particular unknown subject, or UnSub, suffered extreme abuse. And it has everything to do with the way he does what he does." Rossi said.
"Now these are some of his victims. He kidnapped them, restrained them and he starved them for days." Morgan said.
"Then he killed them by mutilating their reproductive organs. Right now we know there are at least 40 of them."
"But we believe that he may eventually claim over 100 victims." Hotch added.
"Now we chose this case for today because we've been discovering bodies up and down the west coast since 1992. For lack of a better word, it's a classic. This UnSub's entire childhood was a crucible and in it, a psychotic killer was forged." Rossi said.
The team continued to talk about the profile of psychotics UnSub's and how the victims gave them clues about the UnSub. Meanwhile Hotch noticed that Rossi had gotten a phone call. He talked to Hotch and Hotch made some calls for him.
"In the meantime Agent Rossi retired, but the BAU grew. We trained more profilers, hired tech analysts, press liasions, and we even got our own resident genius." Morgan said.
"Thank you." Garcia and Reid said at the same time.
Zimmerman asked Rossi why he had retired. Rossi answered that he needed a change as he was working on his third divorce and Zimmerman interrupted for the second time and wanted to know if his new hobby helped him and Rossi answered that for a time it did.
"How come I've never heard of this guy?" Zimmerman asked.
"Have you ever heard of Efren Saldivar?"
"No."
"David Parker Ray? How about John Edward Robinson?"
"See at any given time we have at least 25 open cases. Every year we're able to close around 15, yet new ones still seem to pop up. There are more serial killers out there than you may think."
They finished their lesson and said their goodbyes.
"You really don't want us to go with you?"
"No trouble at all." Reid added.
"No it's okay." Rossi replied.
"Rossi it's like two hours away." Ashley said.
"Come on I can drive, I'll get us there in less than an hour." Morgan said.
"I'm good really." Rossi added.
"We'll see you tomorrow."
"You bet."

When Aaron arrived home JJ noticed that he looked preoccupied about something.
"What happened?" Christy asked.
Hotch explained what was going on with Dave.
"Daddy, you shouldn't have let him go alone." Christy said.
"He didn't want us to go with him." Hotch replied.
Christy got her phone out and dialed a number.
"Uncle Dave I'm inviting you to have dinner with us."
JJ noticed that she made a face.
"I don't take a no for an answer. I'm expecting you here."
"We only have enough for us." JJ stated.
"I've got an idea." Christy said and started texting someone.
Thirty minutes later, Rossi arrived home.
"Happy birthday Uncle Dave." Jack and Christy said showing off their artwork done with little time.
Rossi smiled. Christy excused herself to talk on the phone as her phone started ringing. Few minutes later she came back. The doorbell rang and she walked to the door to open it.
"Happy birthday!" the rest of the team exclaimed.
He looked at Christy.
"I know you were the mastermind of all of this."
"Yeah. I didn't want that UnSub to have the last word and not give him what he wanted."
"She has a point." Reid said.
"Thank you." Rossi said.
The team had brought food and cake for Rossi. They had dinner and shared some cake and where sitting down in the living room talking. JJ noticed that Ashley kept massaging her belly.
"I should get going." Ashley said.
"Ash, is something wrong?" JJ asked.
"It hurts. Please take me to the hospital."
"I'll take you." Emily said.
Morgan carried Ashley to Emily's car. Christy and Garcia were left behind to take care of the kids. They had texted Erik and let him know that they were taking Ashley to the hospital. They had just gotten there when Erik arrived at the hospital.
"Hey." He said to her and grabbed her hand.
They were called. The team waited in the waiting room for news while Ashley and Erik went to see the Doctor. They were all nervous. Ashley had just turned 7 months. It had been close to one hour when Erik finally showed up. He was wearing scrubs.
"What happened?" JJ asked.
"She was having contractions. The doctor did a sonogram and noticed that the baby didn't have enough water and had to do an Emergency C-Section. Ashley is doing well. They're passing her to her room and the baby was put in an incubator until she learns how to breathe on her own. You should all go and rest."
"Come on guys let's go." JJ said. "It's past visiting hours and she won't be awake till much later."
They said their goodbyes to Erik and left the hospital. JJ texted Christy and let her know what was happening and to tell Garcia. Few minutes later they arrived home.
"Garcia, she's not alone. Erik is with her."
"You can visit her tomorrow Garcia." Hotch said.
"She needs that time with Erik. Let them work their situation at the moment." JJ said. "Where's Christy?"
Just as Garcia answered Christy came out of the room.
"She didn't want to go to sleep but she finally did."
"Goodnight." Garcia said and walked towards the door.
Christy's phone began to ring.
"Hey." She said and walked towards her room.
"Aaron, it's going strong."
"Yeah I've noticed. He seems to be a good young man."
"Yes. We should get ready to go to bed."
"I'm right behind you."
