Chapter Twenty-one

It was Saturday and the team was having a day off. He was having a lot of fun with his family. Christy and Jack had built a tent under the table. JJ was already making breakfast for her family. His phone began to ring and he answered few minutes later he left. The team and Detective Bainbridge were waiting for Ashley to arrive outside the bank.

"It's definitely them. I only saw the King and the Jack but I figured the Queen's inside too." Erik said as they started walking.

The media had been calling them the Face Cards. Seven bank robberies in seven months and killed one person in each robbery. A single gunshot and each victim has bled out. Emily asked why where they only hearing about them till that moment. Hotch answered that Headquarters always characterized them as robber's first killers second. Hotch disagreed with the original assessment but he was overruled. The reason they had called them was because Crisis Negotiation was overseas. They were organized, efficient and each strike lasted about two minutes.

"Well, they got to be scouting the banks in advance. Why haven't we been able to ID them off of surveillance footage?" Morgan asked as they entered the truck and saw Garcia working in the computer already.

They hack the security feeds and turning off and on the cameras during the initial canvass and during the robbery until the masks come back. They were also using the hostages as human shields. The team wanted to know what had gone wrong.

Hotch sent Ashley, Reid and Emily back to the BAU to look at past robberies that was going to be their victimology and if they had to pull another analyst if they needed. Dave was going to handle negotiations while Morgan was going to strategize tactical options with MPD. The King and Queen had been killing more hostages and the King had asked for the officer who had killed his brother.

"No you're not. We are going in." Hotch said and they all walked outside the truck.

Morgan, Ashley, Hotch and Emily were standing up behind a police car when they noticed that Erik was walking towards the bank. Emily and Morgan struggled to stop Ashley from stopping Erik but they managed and they heard two gunshots. They all walked inside the truck again and discussed about it.

"Ashley, is too risky. We don't have eyes there anymore." Morgan stated.

"Aaron." Ashley said looking at him straight to the eye.

"Let's go in." Hotch answered.

As Ashley, Morgan and Emily prepared to enter they heard a loud explosion. Hotch was talking to the police officers about what they needed to see and asked Garcia if they had a positive ID on the woman. Garcia answered that she didn't. They needed more agents. Homeland Security had just arrived. Garcia was worried. She had already seen Ashley and Morgan but not Emily. It was driving him crazy not having any leads on the woman. His phone rang. It was JJ. He explained the situation.

Hotch gave the profile to the police officers while Rossi gave it to the media. Hotch and Reid checked the map and found out that her strategic exit was outside the perimeter. Both Hotch and Reid walked back inside the truck and checked the surveillance camera of the bank before they got cuff off when they shot Erik. They had Erik with them. They knew DC was the setting. They were not in anyone's list.

Strauss wanted to know how they were going to find them. They needed to find the common denominators between all 14 robberies and go from there. She was the only answer for the time being. Emily was going to call Clyde to get more information. After a few more minutes Emily walked back inside with information the woman knew how to build bombs.

Rossi and Ashley left when they were notified of a dead paramedic. After watching the surveillance video fast forward, Emily noticed that the woman's partner was inside the bank the whole time. Hotch and the team called Rossi to let them know that the real woman partner was Matthew Downs. Ashley noticed that Erik's driver license was missing and they knew where they lived. They headed over there.

They began to look for past bombings and noticed that one of them was in a train station. There was one that fit their description and needed someone with clear entrance. That's why they needed Erik. Hotch got a phone call about an accident involving a federal SVU. Hotch, Morgan and Reid headed over there. Erik had caused the accident in an effort to stop their plans. Matthew shot Hotch in the arm. Morgan shot Matthew in the head. Reid called for an ambulance for Hotch. Morgan checked Erik's vital signs and he shook his head. Hotch got his phone out and called Rossi.

"There's bad news and not so easy to tell by phone." Aaron said. "Erik made everything possible to ruin their plans."

"I understand."

Hotch hung up as the ambulance was getting closer. Reid was going with Hotch in the ambulance. He was in pain. Few minutes later they arrived at the hospital. The doctor checked him. He was waiting impatiently when JJ walked inside the room. She had been crying. Hotch removed his arm sling.

"I'm okay. They just need another X-Ray." He said as he gave her a hug. "Don't cry."

"Ask me again."

"What?"

"Ask me." JJ answered.

"Jennifer Jareau, will you marry me?"

"Yes."

"There's a chapel here. Let's do it. Let's get married."

"No. I'm not the one who's supposed to wear a gown." Hotch answered.

"Save a date in your calendar. We have a date at the courthouse." She said and kissed him.

The Nurse entered to tell him they were ready to do the X-Ray. JJ and Hotch followed the nurse. After a while they left home.

"Daddy!"

Hotch reaffirm Christy that he was going to be okay. JJ reminded her to breathe normally. The kids were preoccupied for him. Christy's phone began to ring and Rena didn't want her to leave. Christy asked her if she wanted to go with her and she said yes. JJ's phone started ringing.

"Hey Ashley."

"I know Erik would want this. We want to celebrate his life. I would want you and your family to join us."

"Yes of course where and when?" JJ asked.

"Tomorrow night at Rossi's place. It's big enough to have something small."

"We'll be there."

An hour later Christy and Rena came back home. They began to get ready for bed. She checked up on the twins and made sure they were okay and then they headed to Henry and Rena's rooms to put them to sleep. The following morning the kids woke them up. They were hungry. They had no other option but to get up. Christy was in charge of the coffee while Hotch and the kids would set up the table. After breakfast and cleaning up the kids wanted to go to the pool. JJ and Christy got them ready. Before they knew it, it was time to get ready to head out to Rossi's place.

"Hey someone knows how to throw a party." She said as she was giving him a hug. "You don't mess around."

"What can I tell you I'm the host with the most."

"No kidding."

"Hey look who's here."

"Mom. Ok what's going on?"

"We couldn't marry without your Mom."

"Someone might have overheard a proposal yesterday."

"I couldn't wait till Monday."

"So this is why everyone is so dressed up huh?" She asked Henry.

He nodded with his head.

"Yes and so will you. I brought something borrowed."

"Mom is that your dress?"

"Let's go see if it's still fits."

They walked inside the home to get ready. She knew Christy was in on it too. She couldn't even believe it. After her Mom helped her dress herself they headed down. Henry was the ring bearer.

"They say good things happen to good people." David said getting up raising his glass. "Today is one of those days and these two are one of those people. We love you."

They all raised their glasses.

"I have an announcement to make." JJ said. "We're pregnant."

Hotch choked in his drink.

"No wonder why Rena has been acting differently lately." Christy said.

"Thank you." JJ said.

"I know Erik would have loved that. He wouldn't have wanted us to be sad." Ashley said holding baby Benjamin. "Erik and I made a deal when Ben was born. I know what he did was to protect us and he knew we could find out about their plans."

"I understand that." JJ said remembering Will's death. "It makes it so much harder on how to explain it to a little person who doesn't understand that part of life."

"I don't know how I would explain it to him when he starts questioning about his dad."

"By telling him that his dad loved him so much." JJ replied.

"How did you do it?" Ashley asked.

"After I got out of the hospital I couldn't enter the apartment we shared. The team after knowing our history they voted for Aaron to take care of me. I stayed with him."

"I'm not ready for that." Ashley said.

"Ash, you don't have to do something you're not ready. I think you're braver than me but if you can't handle staying at your place you can join us. I know someone who would like to help you out."

Ashley said she would call her. After a few more minutes the whole team started leaving saying goodbye to Rossi.
