A/N: So I decided that I'm not updating this nearly enough...from now on I'm going to try and update EVERY Monday. If I can't think of an idea, I'm going to put my iTunes on shuffle so a random song comes on, and then write a one-shot based on the lyrics. Small warning; my iTunes has the oddest mix of songs ever...
Anyway, putting my iTunes on shuffle...
Chapter Twenty-Four: Head Over Heels, by Hit The Lights
I count my lucky stars
I thank God I've seen a smile like yours
But don't take it as a compliment
Just know it's straight from the heart
24. Head Over Heels
As they crossed the school parking lot, Jasper felt a twinge of jealousy coming from his wife. Turning, he examined her face for a clue to explain the emotion. She was biting her lip and looking across at Jessica Stanley, leaning against her car bonnet and flicking her extension-filled hair over her shoulder whilst giggling delicately at something Mike Newton had just said.
"Do you think I should get extensions?" Alice asked, fingering her short spiky hair with an odd look on her face.
"Why would you want to do that?" Jasper asked. The world of hair and make-up and clothes was not one that Jasper visited very often. He wouldn't at all if it wasn't for Alice, who tending to throw that world upon everyone she could. Plus, he couldn't imagine any reason why Alice would want to change her hair, or anything else for that matter. She was perfect as she was.
"Because long hair is pretty." Alice mused.
"You're pretty." Jasper reasoned.
"Not as pretty as Jessica Stanley." Alice said under her breath.
"Ten times prettier. A million times prettier." Jasper told her. All it earned him was an eye roll.
"Long hair is more girly." Alice said, "More elegant and more pretty."
"I like your hair." Jasper said, gently tugging at a strand, "It's cute."
"Cute?!" Alice asked, outraged, "I don't want to be cute Jasper! I want to look like she does."
Jasper followed Alice's pointed finger to where Jessica was standing. He didn't get the big deal. She was pretty, he'd give her that. Probably one of the prettiest girls at the school. But she was nothing compared to his Alice. Jessica was pretty; Alice was gorgeous.
They looked quite similar, actually. If you stood them side by side, they could even be sisters. But Alice was just...more. Prettier, classier, nicer. It was like Alice was the glossy, airbrushed model version of Jessica. Except this wasn't the cover of a magazine, and Alice's beauty was real and standing right in front of him.
It wasn't just her physical beauty that set Alice above Jessica. Alice was kinder, bubblier, friendlier. She smiled at everyone she saw, befriended everyone she met. She was on first name terms with almost every shop assistant in the state, and had the personal mobile of several restaurant waitresses. She didn't even need to go to restaurants!
Overall, Alice was just a better person than Jessica. That was why Jasper just couldn't understand Alice's obsession with wanting to look more like Jessica.
"Darlin', you are be-autiful." Jasper said, dragging out the word for a long time until Alice laughed and playfully hit him on the chest. "Honestly, you are. Your eyes are gorgeous, your smile is unlike anything else, and I thank God that I get to see it every day. I'm head over heels in love with you. Not Jessica, not anyone else; you."
Alice smiled, "Save your compliments, I-"
"They aren't compliments." Jasper interrupted, "They're just the truth. How I feel, straight from my heart."
As Alice stood on tip toes and kissed Jasper lightly, whispering to him that she loved him, Jessica Stanley watched from across the car park.
"I think I might cut my hair short." She said to Mike, "It's much prettier."
She'd said it casually, but she watched Mike's reaction carefully. She so desperately wanted him to like her. Not just like her, she wanted what Alice and Jasper had. They were a strange pair; the tall, quiet one and the small, bubbly one. They didn't show huge amounts of affection in public, save for hand holding and the odd kiss here and there, but there was something about them. Even Jessica could see that what they had was more than a high school relationship. She could see that they really were head over heels in love with each other.
A/N: Kinda short but hope you liked it. :) Let me know what you think of the iTunes idea...I'm not totally sure if it'll work or not, but worth a try, right?!
So yeah, the similarity between Jessica and Alice...anyone else notice that the actresses in the films are like identical? Thought I'd play on that ;) Hope you liked it! :)
Thanks for all the reviews, as always! Keep them coming :)
