Klaus & Hayley: Road Trip

"Klaus, have you seen Elijah? There is something that I need to tell both of you." Hayley called out to him desperately. Their eyes met for one moment as he walked past her and he couldn't hide the feeling of anger that she was once again asking for Elijah to come to her. "You can tell me on the way." He simply told her as he was ready to walk out the double doors and out of the compound. Hayley looked confused. "What? Where are we going?" she asked him. He looked back and noticed her confused expression.

A certain light was glowing on her from the outside of the compound, making her look radiant as she was standing there, before him, searching for an answer. "To see our daughter." Klaus finally managed to whisper and Hayley's breathing hitched as he said that. She had been waiting for this day to come since forever but as days passed, she wondered if it was just a wish that would never come true. They continued staring at once another before Klaus turned around and walked out of the compound. Hayley was high on his heels.

The two of them entered the car and the engine started running as Hayley strapped on her seatbelt and looked at him as he was already making another phone call. "We are coming over there right now, Rebekah. Keep Elijah in line and make sure he does not do anything he will later regret. Hayley and I will be there soon." "Okay, but please hurry." Hayley could hear Rebekah's voice from the other line and Klaus ended the phone call, starting to drive with full speed. It was no problem for them. If a cop stopped them, they could easily compel themselves out of the situation. Hayley understood that this was indeed for a good cause. Their daughter was in trouble…and all this time, all she had been caring about was her pack and how she was now going to marry Jackson for real.

He was not looking at her as he was driving. Hayley was wondering if she had said or done something that had made him stop paying any attention to her. "What is going on? Is she okay?" Hayley finally whispered with concern. Klaus gripped the steering wheel harder and whispered, "Esther had found them. That is the reason Elijah is with Rebekah and Hope right now. We need to get there and figure out a place where we can hide Hope." "The only place where we can hide her is with us." Hayley murmured and Klaus shook his head. "That is not going to happen, Hayley. Can you not see that as long as she is with us, she's in danger?" "And as long as she is not with us, she is in even more danger. She has parents who love her and can protect her and you're sitting here, telling me that you want to push her further away from us! I have spent months missing her. I am not going to miss any more time with her."

"I can understand your pain, Hayley but I do not wish to fight you on this now. We will discuss more of the problem when we have reached Rebekah and Elijah." Klaus told her, his eyes not leaving the road. Hayley sighed and looked back out the window. She could barely see anything as they were speeding by like lightning, as fast as this car could go. "What did you mean when you told Rebekah to keep Elijah in line? Can he not take care of himself?" Klaus smirked at that and whispered, "I can assure you that Elijah can handle himself quite fine…when he is not possessed by my mother." "What are you talking about?" "Apparently, the spell that my mother had cast on him had made him more vulnerable than he should be. He could be considering accepting my mother's offer to put him in another body. The same offer that she handed over to you, as you well remember." Klaus' eyes met hers at last and she looked away, not wanting to debate the subject of his mother's gifts any longer. Hayley had thought about accepting Esther's proposition, had she not shown that she could be cruel and vindictive towards her children.

"Why don't you tell me what you wanted to tell me before this all happened?" Klaus asked her and Hayley could finally look at him with a bit of sadness in her eyes. She noticed how busy he was and how he was always the one having to worry about most things. She used to believe that it was Elijah who was to be considered the Family Patriot or the Family Protector but now she could see that she was wrong. It was Klaus who was sacrificing everything for his family and especially for his daughter. She was making some pretty big sacrifices as well and marrying Jackson was one of them. She was risking her chance at being happy forever. She always had her life pictured in her head: Having a man she loved and who loved her, they get married and have a child together. She pictured the whole fairy tale. But as time went by, Hayley learned that life was no fairy tale. She was forced to do things now that she was considered to be Queen, for the good of her people.

"I have been looking through a notebook of Jackson's. When your father was alive and well…" At the mention of Ansel, Klaus once again looked away from her and his knuckles became white as he gripped the steering wheel harder. Hayley was noticing the great effect the mention of his father had on him and she didn't want to make him hurt like this. She placed her hand on one of the hands that was on the steering wheel and she could feel him relaxing at once. She smiled at that and continued talking, "There were some notes in that notebook from your father about some rituals that he had witnessed. Jackson and I talked about one ritual in particular which unifies our pack through marriage. I am planning on doing that." Klaus' mouth opened slightly and he looked over at her for one moment as she looked straight ahead down the road. "Our parents wanted us to get married when we were children. Now, it is for a good cause and I am going to do it. I am going to marry Jackson."

The breaks were hit at once and Hayley gasped as she felt herself going forward but thank God that she had put on her seatbelt or she would have flied right out of that car through the window. What had gotten into him? Hayley stared back at Klaus whose face showed nothing but pure shock. "What?" he whispered and Hayley rubbed her forehead, sitting back in her chair and she looked away. Klaus continued to stare at her for a couple of minutes before starting the car again and going down the road. This time, he didn't go on full speed. Hayley could finally look up at him and the horrifying look he had on his face. "When did you decide to make such a decision?" he asked her in a whisper. "Today, right after I came over to you. I wanted to tell both you and Elijah, hoping that you would understand. I guess from your reaction, that you don't." "What do you expect me to understand? You have made this decision without consulting me." Hayley stared at him in shock. "Consulting you? Who are you? Are you the one controlling my life or am I?" "When it comes to our child, you should have asked me before you made this ridiculous decision to marry the lad." Hayley gaped at him.

"You were expecting me to ask your permission to marry Jackson? Klaus, I knew that you were going to react badly at the news but this is just taking it too far. You can't tell me who I should and who I shouldn't marry. Forget it! I am sorry that I even told you." Klaus stopped the car once again which annoyed Hayley. "What are you doing? Rebekah asked us to be there as soon as possible. Stopping the car is not going to make me change my mind, Klaus." "No, but it will give me time to talk some sense into you, love." Klaus responded. "Nothing is going to change my mind. Klaus, please start the car again." Hayley whispered to him, grabbing her forehead again. She was tired and she had to go through a lot today. She was risking a lot but it was the greater good. Klaus started driving again and she sighed in relief that he had not gotten out of the car or something like that. Hope was more important now.

But they hadn't been driving for long. "We need to go up this hill and we're there." Klaus whispered and got out of the car. Hayley got out after him. This was exactly what she was hoping she could avoid. The awkward silencing walk of theirs. Before she could take more steps, he grabbed her arm and held her still as he looked into her deep and hazel eyes. "What now?" Hayley whispered. "You didn't think of how this marriage is going to affect Hope?" "How is it going to affect her? It is fine, Klaus. I am still her mother. It's not like she needs for her parents to get married to grow up with a normal childhood." Klaus opened his mouth to say something but then started walking once more. Hayley sighed and started walking again after him. She had begun to wonder, as they approached the little house in the meadow if whether or not she was making the right choice. What if Klaus was right? What if she was making a mistake?

A/N: Just a short of how I think the Klayley road trip to Hope is going to be. I tried to make it as realistic as possible and it didn't really have that Klayley vibe that I wanted to write in. Hope you enjoyed it and I will be writing more one shots with what you asked me soon.

And if you do have any more suggestions, feel free to tell me.
