Klaus + Hayley (+ Gilijah): Church & Dreams
He could have done a lot of other things in his spare time, but he couldn't stop gazing at her. She would be sitting on the balcony with their daughter from time to time and he would stand a while, look at her and take in her beauty. She was always wearing the exact same thing. It was a light and white nightgown. Klaus would walk in on her in her room, twirling with their child. She was dancing and there was only happiness in her eyes when she looked at their child sleeping, or curling in her chest.
Hope was a heavy sleeper and she would make trouble for them during nighttime, but during daytime, she was happy to have her parents hold her, and she would nuzzle into their necks, breathing in and out, and closing her eyes, resting. Hayley didn't mind as much as he did, but she did have her moments when she just couldn't take it any longer. She was a young mother and Klaus was constantly reminding her that she would learn and get better at this without realizing it.
Now, he realized just what a big thing parenthood was, and how difficult it was for a child to be raised by two parents who were barely even speaking to one another. She was once again the broken girl he saw once, because of many, many things, but this time, he could not understand her pain. She had Hope in her arms again. He had told her that her pain would fade when that happened and it should have. As a hybrid, her heart was no longer beating, but he could feel it break into pieces. He tried speaking to her many times before to see what the problem was, but he couldn't not get angry at her for keeping her pain and sorrows a secret from him. He demanded to know what was going on so many times, and she just ended up pushing him away, telling him that it was none of his business.
The next couple of days, she barely spoke at all and one day, when she was out with Hope for a walk in the park, Klaus had begun putting the pieces together. With Esther and Mikael gone from this world and he city falling apart, it was time to sign a new treaty. Klaus stood up and walked towards his brother's room, when he heard a woman's moans. He stopped in his tracks and thought about whether he should enter Elijah's room or not. Her face came into his mind at that moment. Those hazel eyes and soft olive skin, the chocolate brown hair, which tumbled neatly on her shoulders, he grin, the genuine glow in her eyes, the glow he saw the night they made love, which resulted in the procreating of Hope. She has and would always be his little wolf. He couldn't see her, with any other man. He wouldn't let her be with another man. Anger plunged inside of him as he grabbed the door handle and burst inside.
Elijah was lying naked on the bed, kissing the neck of a girl…who was definitely not Hayley. The minute he saw his brother standing there in shock, Elijah and the girl pulled away and covered themselves up with their blanket as Klaus almost dropped the treaty from his hands. He could not believe what he was seeing. "Brother, what is going on with you? Please, do learn to knock next time." Elijah scolded him as Klaus looked at the girl who was blushing next to him. He recognized her as one of the girls from Marcel's vampire group, the lonely one, Gia. He had no idea that she and Elijah had something going on.
A smirk appeared on Klaus' face without him realizing before he cleared his throat and whispered, "My apologies, brother. I had no idea you were so wrapped up in other things. I suppose you do not mind if you sign this treaty, will you? It's done." Elijah read it and signed it at once. "Is there anything else?" Elijah asked, bitterly and Klaus stared curiously at him. It was not like his brother to just be annoyed over something like this. "I also suppose that you are not responsible for the way Hayley has been feeling lately, or maybe you are since…the common interest you two have shared with one another." Gia looked at Elijah for one moment and rubbed her hands on her legs, ready to leave the bed in silence but Elijah's hand stopped her and then he looked directly towards Klaus. "Niklaus, I would like to inform you that the common interest Hayley and I have had in one another no longer exists."
"That is the way you feel, but clearly not the way she does." Klaus muttered angrily under his breath before taking the treaty from his brother's hands and leaving the room without another word being said. Elijah sighed and sat back down, caressing Gia's arm softly. "Maybe this was a bad idea." She told him and was getting ready to leave but Elijah pulled her back and shook his head, whispering, "No. I don't want you to leave. Please, stay. My brother is…" "It's not that." "Is this still about Hayley? Please, understand that when I feel something for a moment, I would never choose to be or even think about being with anyone else." He bent over and gently kissed her lips. "What Hayley and I shared was something special, but we are not the same people anymore, nor will we ever be. It's you I want to be with. It's you I want in my future." Elijah told her explicitly and Gia smiled at him, resting her head on his shoulder as they both lay down in bed.
"Then why does Klaus think that you have upset Hayley by being with me?" Gia finally looked up into his eyes again as she asked him this question. Elijah sighed and said, "Because Niklaus has been overprotective of Hayley since he started caring about the child inside of her. Since then, from hatred and anger, all they have done was get closer and closer as my connection to Hayley faded. I chose to realize a little too late, that I would never truly be the one Hayley wants in her life. Even if neither one of them can't see it…Niklaus is the chosen one this time. And I am happy to be here with you, as I hope that these two people in my family will realize they can have a future together, if they gave each other a chance." No more was needed to be said as Gia silenced him with a passionate kiss.
Klaus stopped by the church after he had dropped off the new treaty. The factions were now forced to live in peace by their King, whether they liked it or not. He looked down at the signatures he received and noticed Jackson's signature as the representative of the werewolves of New Orleans. He started remembering how it used to be Hayley's signature on it. She had lost all her right to be Queen of that pack now, after everything that had happened…and it was all because of him. The church was peaceful and as he looked inside, he gaped at the one woman sitting there, with a stroller next to her. It was her.
His thoughts raced back to the moment he entered Elijah's room and saw him in bed with Gia. Was this her problem? Was she still hoping that things between her and Elijah would work out? Anger washed through him once again but he tried to maintain it, as he stepped forward and reached her. She would have smelled him out by now, if she had not been lost in her thoughts. Her eyes were glistering from all the tears and she looked up in shock at him, their eyes meeting for one silenced moment. Finally, he bent over and kissed the top of sleeping Hope's head, before he took a seat next to her mother. "What is your problem, little wolf?" he whispered to her and she looked at him, wiping away her tears. "Why do I think that I might have a problem?" she asked him and she started trying his patience. He would not have it with anyone and Hayley would be no exception.
"I know that you are upset about Elijah, but that gives you no right to shut me out and run over town with our daughter whenever you like. It has been days and I know nothing about what you've been doing in these days. I have barely seen you." Klaus told her and she smiled a little, shaking her head. "You're lying. I know you have been…watching me. I am a hybrid, now, Klaus. I can actually sense you…and I am not upset about Elijah." He stared at her for a moment before a smirk appeared on his face. "We are in church, love. You are not to lie to me about anything."
"What the hell do you want me to say?" Hayley hissed at him. "I want you to tell me why you have been avoiding me. We used to be partners. I made you a promise that we would raise Hope together as a family and you have neglected that for days. I want answers, little wolf." She looked at him for a moment and saw concern in his eyes. "If it is about him seeing Gia, I can perfectly understand…" he started saying but Hayley cut him off. "I know about him and Gia. I have known about them for a while now. It is you who have just found out." "And you are upset." "Klaus, I am not upset. I am happy for them." "Then this is about the Jackson fella, isn't it?" he asked her.
"I can't talk to you like this." Hayley angrily stood up and started walking away with Hope's stroller. "No, wait!" Klaus called out to her and stopped her. "Tell me what has upset you so much you wouldn't like to look at me in the eyes and confess it to me." His eyes were convincing and she knew that he was very eager to find out the truth about her. It was not Elijah and hell; it wasn't even Jackson or her position as Queen being taken from her. It was…her whole life. She took a seat back next to him and decided to tell him. He listened calmly, especially to some of the things she said.
"I haven't felt like myself since I became a hybrid and…my whole world has been falling apart. I have no one anymore but Hope." She said to him and a tear slid on her cheek, as he looked back to her. He rubbed his finger over her cheek to stop the tear from falling even further. He didn't want to do this anymore to her. She was hurting and he was pushing her into telling him how she felt about all the changes in their lives. "You told me that…when I would get Hope back, I would feel complete, right? You remember that you told me that." "I said you would no longer feel any sort of pain. It would fade." "It has not faded. It has not faded…because I still feel like something is missing in my life."
His hand was still resting on her cheek, brushing then slowly over her cheekbone, as she looked at him in the eyes intensely. "What is it, love?" he finally asked her, feeling like he would do anything to have happiness brought to her once again. "I wanted to get married…I wanted to have someone…" she slowly whispered and closed her mouth afterwards, not knowing how to continue. It was her dream, as a little girl, a dream that she would get married and have a happily ever after. Klaus sighed and pulled his hand away from her cheek, disappointing her completely. "I suppose you should call Jackson and…sort this issue out with him."
Klaus stood up, only to have Hayley stand up with him. He was surprised at her actions, especially when her hands cupped his cheeks and she told him, "It is not Jackson that I think about day and night and can't push him out. I am not ashamed of how I feel. I am more than sure of how I feel." His eyes showed how scared he was of her words. He felt it and she felt it too. Hayley bit her lip for a moment before gently leaning forward and caressing his lips with her own, until she pressed on gentle and very soft kiss on them, leaving him stunned…but he was also trembling. He was afraid this would happen…he was afraid of it happening…he couldn't have this happen between them. Pulling back, Klaus gently cupped her face and whispered, "Hayley…"
She intervened and stopped him before he had the chance to continue. "You don't have to say anything. I know…this is too early…but you wanted to know the truth, and I have shown it to you. I am not afraid to say or show that I am falling in love with you." He continued to brush his finger over her face, until they reached her lips, feeling them for a moment, the lips which willing met his. How could she fall in love with him? She bit her lip once more, pulling away and grabbing Hope's stroller, leading herself out of the church.
Klaus' eyes softened for a moment as he gently placed his fingers over his own lips and looked back at the she-wolf who has stolen his heart forever.
