I have no idea where this came from, well actually I think I do but that's not the point.

The point is, I wasn't even thinking about this kind of stuff when it came to me. It didn't come slowly, I didn't get on the topic and then have it slowly come to me. No I was thinking about video games or something else completely different and this whole idea came to me all at once.

It's a thing, a short thing, I just thought I should post it for some reason.

Disclaimer: I don't own RWBY.

Just one thing that could go on behind a smile

He's 15, he's at the highschool.

First class, science.

Normal class, paying attention at usual.

He's quiet, he stays out of the way, but everyone knows him.

Everyone knows him by the name he goes by, it's too easy to remember.

Everyone knows AJ.

He does nothing but have a simple name and anyone could point him out, funny how that works. Getting off topic though.

Get told to pick a partner, lucky him there's an odd number of students, he has no partner, better that way.

One duo is an actual couple, he glances at them and feels things come back to him, he ignores them the best he can and works on the assignment.

He can't completely ignore how he feels though, not that you can tell.

He just has a focused face, he could hide behind a smile, but that takes too much effort and there is nothing to smile about at the moment.

Next class, on the way he sees a couple holding hands, he doesn't notice that his expression ever so slightly changes to a glare, and unnoticeable one. He continues walking to class, quickly forgetting them as roll call starts.

"Here."

Break now, got a couple minutes of peace, see friends, smile.

It's actually a real smile, a smile that falters for a moment seeing a couple out in the distance.

He smiles again, a fake smile, it becomes a real one again by the end of break.

Hanging out with friends is the only good thing here… at all.

Next class, eventful, given big test.

Everyone else stresses, not him. He never had trouble with tests.

He smiles in accomplishment as he hands in his test, confident he did just fine.

"I did terrible on that test, I'm sure of it!" A girl complained.

A boy care by and grabbed her hand and she smiled at him, he returned the smile.

He was confident he was fine with the test, but now his smile was gone.

Next class… P.E.

Most guys showing off to the girls, running fast, playing basketball…

He just sits with his one friend and looks around as they talk about stuff, anything to just smile and ignore everyone else, at least that was the point for him. Not sure about his friend.

He sees a boy and girl in the corner and completely loses his smile, he notices too late that he looks away from his friend and glares at them.

"Hey, you ok?" His friend asks.

"Yeah, I'm fine." He answers with a fake smile.

Everyone knows him… but no one knows what really goes on with him, in his mind.

"It's like this is Valentine's day or something…" He grumbled to himself as lunch started.

He was on the way to the spot his friends hung out at, the one place he could smile at this school.

Another couple, this one in a secluded area of the grass, making out. Upon closer inspection there were two more couples, he grumbled to himself as he went to join his friends.

They never noticed that at random points throughout lunch his smile was fake, as his mind wandered.

Lunch is over, pass another two couples on the way.

Geometry, he gave up on the class, he simply couldn't do it.

"Just take notes." The girl behind him says.

"You don't understand." He says back.

Strange how nice she is to a stranger, doesn't want him to fail. But he knows his limit, he simply can't do anything in this class, he barely kept up at the start, and now he can't at all.

So he rests his head here, waiting for class to end. He has one friend here, seated pretty close to him but they have no chance to talk in this class.

And then the final part, a girl in a nearby class that he's pretty sure he has a crush on, walking holding hands with a tall boy.

They had been going out for a month or more, he knew this already, he wasn't gonna try anyway. He never was going to try, he was just going to go through his classes each day.

He didn't need to be in love, he tells himself, no matter how much he wants it, he doesn't need it.

It's not like he'll ever find love anyway. And even if he does it won't be the love he wants and it won't work out.

Then he wakes up.

He's 17, in Beacon.

"Goodmorning AJ!"

And he does have love, and it is exactly the kind he wants.

He's happy here, just from the love he wanted to have so badly he's willing to leave all he had back on Earth.

His friends will find their own loves and continue just fine without him.

And now he has a real smile again.

One person in this world, not even his own world, this world, actually understands him, and what goes on in his mind.

Not sure this is something you really "enjoy" but I wrote it anyway. Don't really care for your opinion on this one, just more personal stuff I really just shouldn't have posted… meh.

Have a great week.
