Regina sat curled up in the couch in her study. Looking into the flames dancing in the fire place, her mind was elsewhere and anywhere. How would she tell Robin that she was carrying his child? A thought that frightened her even more was if Robin rejected her. She could feel her chest becoming heavy with the thought. Since her chat with Emma at the station, Regina had kept herself at home, wanting to figure out what to do. That chat was now almost a week ago. She had kept her promise to Henry and met him at the diner for their weekly lunch, and even called Grace from time to time letting her know she was fine. Regina did suspect that Grace knew something was up- usually they would meet almost every day, however, not this week. Her sister hadn't pushed Regina with nagging questions, which she was very grateful for.
Regina turned her head and glanced out the window; winter was coming. She stared up at the trees in her garden, who were not long ago covered in red and yellow leaves, but were now almost entirely bare. One single leaf was hanging by a thread, and finally lost its grip and slowly, but surely fell to the soft ground. Regina sighed, she could need someone to talk to, someone to just listen while she could lay all her current life problems upon them. As Regina wrapped a blanket around her, there were three soft knocks on the door, she could barely hear them. With another heavy sighed, she pushed herself off of her comfortable spot. She made her way to the door, considering not opening it, but she did so anyway. Rhea was standing at her door. She wore an outfit that could as easily have been one of Regina's own; a grey pencil skirt, with black stockings, and a dark blue blouse, and of course, high heeled boots. Rhea's long hair was put in an neat bun. «Hi Regina.»
«Hello Rhea.» Regina responded and stepped aside to let Rhea in. Without any words, Regina walked into her study and sat down again in the couch.
Rhea followed, «How are you my dear?»
«I'm fine.» Regina said simply, and once again stared into the flames.
Rhea took the liberty of approaching the couch, however Regina was sitting across it, taking all of its space. Rhea simply took a hold of Regina's ankles and lifted them up, sat down and placed her daughters' feet in her lap. Because Regina was bare feet, Rhea took a blanket for behind her and tucked her feet in, so she wouldn't be cold. «You just can't resist can you?» Regina said.
«What can't I resist?» Rhea asked as she placed her hands on top of Regina's now covered feet.
«All this fussing over me?» Regina stated with an raised eye brow.
Rhea chuckled, «Well, you are my child, my firstborn.»
Regina rolled her eyes.
«How are you?» Rhea said and changed the subject.
«As I said, I'm fine.»
«Alright, I gave you a chance to tell me.» Rhea paused, «You're pregnant aren't you?»
Regina's jaw dropped, how on earth did she know? «How..?» but then she closed her mouth and said, «Oh, let me guess, 'a mother knows'?»
Again, Rhea chuckled, «Actually, no.» she gave a quick pause, «Your face is a little pale, and,» she reached to put a soft hand on Regina's forehead, «your face is damp of sweat.» Rhea retracted her hand, «I had exactly the same while carrying you.»
Regina looked down, not wanting to meet Rhea's gaze. «Have you told Robin yet?» Seeing Regina's confused face, taking that she hadn't told her that Robin was the father, «Your father told me, that he had talked to you, and that you were going on a date.» Rhea paused, «I just made a rational calculation dear.»
«I'm meeting him later this afternoon.» Regina said, and continued, «Does Samuel know?»
Rhea shook her head, «No, but he will be over the moon when you tell him.»
«You won't tell him?» Regina asked.
«No, of course not, this is your news.» she paused, «I am so thrilled about this news that I can barely contain it. But I do, however, appreciate that this is difficult for you.» she finished. Regina didn't answer, and Rhea knew somehow that it was time for her to leave. She rose, and put Regina's legs down at the couch again. She took the blanket and put it over her daughter. Before she turned to leave, she leant down and kissed Regina's forehead, «If you want, let me know how it goes sweetheart.» she said and let herself out.
Although Regina would never admit it, she did like that Rhea fussed over her like she did, seeing that it was not something Regina was used to from Cora. She glanced at the clock, it was only an hour till she had to meet with Robin.
…
They had agreed upon meeting in the woods, not far from Robin's house, Regina didn't want anyone eavesdropping on them. She was there a minute early, standing, and staring into the darkness of the woods. Night was falling. She heard footsteps approach, and she was delighted to see it was Robin, «Hello, milady.» He said with a smiled as he approached her and gave her a soft kiss.
Regina smiled and kissed him back, «Hi.»
He pulled back and sighed happily, «So, why are we meeting out here?»
Regina looked at the ground, slightly nervous, and looked up at him again, «I have some news. I don't want risk anyone else finding out.» Robin looked at her puzzled, «I'm pregnant Robin.» Now Regina looked at him in anticipation, waiting for a response. Seconds passed, and Regina felt her heart racing, and gut twisting.
«I…» was all Robin could say.
Regina couldn't take the painful moments any longer, and disappeared in a purple puff of smoke. Bewildered by her emotions and shattered heart, she appeared at the front door of her family's house. With almost no strength, she knocked on the door. To her relief, Rhea opened the door. Regina could feel her knees trembling, «Mom..» she managed to say before collapsing into Rhea's arms in the family house. Regina could hear faint footsteps behind Rhea, presumedly Samuel's, and her sisters' and brother. Rhea held up a hand, signaling that this was something for her to handle. She put both of her arms around Regina and transported them into the living room where they would not be disturbed.
Regina was sobbing by now, feeling every emotion intensely. They were at the couch, and Regina's head in resting on her shoulder. Rhea pulled her daughter's head to her chest hand kissed her forehead, and stroked her hair. She did everything a mother could to comfort her child.
…
On the other side of town, Emma was still at the Sheriff's Station, finishing up. Her phone vibrated, indicating a new message, she pulled up her phone, and she saw she'd received a text from Grace, stating, I think he broke her heart, Regina's not good. Emma didn't have to wonder what she was referring to, Robin hadn't handled the news well, to her own surprise. Emma couldn't help to feel guilty, it was after all she who had urged Regina to telling Robin about the baby.
Not really thinking, she went to her car and drove to Robin's house. When she arrived, she pounded at his door until he opened, «What the hell are you thinking?» she demanded of him.
Robin looked at her puzzled, «Excuse me?»
Emma inched closed, «Oh, I think you know what I'm talking about.»
She took a step back, and let him consider. She could see him realizing what she was getting at. «She didn't get the chance to respond!» Robin defended himself.
«She disappeared before I could even let the news sink in.»
Emma studied his face, it was genuine, he did want to be with Regina.
«I will do everything to get her to listen to me, I want her, I want this child.» He paused, «I am in love with her.»
«You better be.» Emma turned and left.
