Hi everyone! My most sincere apologies that it has taken me so long to update this story, I am trying to find some new inspiration though. Thus, I have made a little twist in this chapter, nothing permanent, just offering a little crime shift, Emma is the Sheriff after all right? I would love hearing from you to let me know what you think!

Thank you for the wonderful responses of this story, I'll try to keep it up!

XOXO

Chapter 19 - THE ONE WITH THE X-FILE

Regina had just passed the two month mark of her pregnancy. She could now, finally, after all the years that had passed, feel that she was headed towards a better future; filled with more happiness, joy and love. She and Robin had agreed they would continue dating as if there was no child on its way. It would only seem natural that they followed a path that would allow them to get to know each other properly, and not jump into a full-blown relationship, or marriage. Even though Regina thought that they were doing what was for the best, she still felt that she knew Robin as well as she could.

She sighed as she stared out the window, any moment now, snow would fall. Mindlessly she put a hand on her stomach, that was now just a small swell. Whenever she was alone with Robin, he would take any change he could to touch her belly. Regina found it little uncomfortable at first, but had started to enjoy it. She smiled at the thought of his gentle touch.

She had no plans for the day, other than maybe getting some work done, however, there was no rush. Regina cleared her throat as she turned around to make her way to the living room. She plunked down in the couch and exhaled deeply. The soft pillows offered comfortable support to her back and neck, and she shut her eyes for a couple of seconds. As she was about to drift into sleep, her phone vibrated; it was Emma.

«Miss Swan.» Regina said in her usual way.

«Hey Regina. Could you come down to the station please? I need you to see something.»

Regina sighed as she leaned forward in the sofa, «Can't you just tell me over the phone?»

«Something weird is going on here Regina.» Emma stated.

As Regina shook her head, she answered; «Need I remind you Miss Swan, we do live in Storybrooke- weird is its middle name.»

Emma chuckled, «No, but seriously, this is beyond anything I've ever seen.» she paused; «Please?»

«Alright, I'll be there in 10 minutes.» Regina hung up the phone and rose, feeling cold from leaving the soft pillows. In stead of wearing her usual stilettos, she chose a pair of boots. On top of her chosen outfit, which was a skirt and lose shirt, she threw on a black trench coat, and a deep read scarf.

As she drove to the Sheriff's station, she had to swallow down a wave of nausea that hit her without warning. Finally arriving, she parked her car right outside of the entrance; there had to be some advantages to the title Mayor, right?

Regina walked into the Station and made a curve into Emma's office; who rose to greet her.

«Hey Regina, thanks for dropping by.»

She nodded in acknowledgement; «You didn't leave me much of a choice did you dear?»

Emma chuckled and approached her, «Ok, lets go.»

Regina followed as Emma explained, «I don't you if anyone told you, but a body was found about two days ago.»
Stopping in her tracks, Regina exclaimed, «What!?»

«Yeah, you're mirroring my initial reaction. But the guy's at the morgue.» Emma said as she stopped in front of the door leading to the east wing of the Sheriff's Station, which held the autopsy room. Emma swung the door open, and they approached a one-way window, they couldn't see anything through it. Emma rolled a button, and the window now revealed a slab with a dead man. Regina gagged, «Oh, Emma!? A little warning would suffice!» she still held her hand over her mouth and nose, even thought there was no smell in the room they were standing.

«Sorry, but you can't see anything, he's all covered.» Emma said as she crossed her arms. «But it's just what I wanted to show you; the guy's got no brain.» She turned around and faced an X-ray, and flipped the light on. «See?» She paused until she saw Regina's shifted attention towards her, «This is an X-ray of a normal brain,» she gestured with her fingers, «you see the skull and brain matter right?»

Regina nodded.

Emma quickly changed x-rays; «And this one is the dead guy's. You can clearly see his skull, but it's empty, there's no brain matter!» Emma exclaimed and turned off the x-ray; «And here's the kicker: there are no needle or puncture marks. I mean, what magical sick son of a bitch would do this?» she paused again «I mean, this is like an X-file, I could really need Mulder and Scully on this.» Emma joked.

«Language dear.» Regina commented as she finally let her hands down, «I haven't heard of this kind of magic, I must admit. If there even is such a way to do it.» she paused, «Not even Rumplestiltskin I believe. However, he might know something.»

As they walked back to Emma's office Regina asked, «Who are Mulder and Scully?»

Emma chuckled, «You really don't know do you?»

They continued walking and Emma put a hand on Regina's back, «I'm sorry I had to show you that Regina. But I felt I had no choice, this all just got me baffled.»

«It's all right dear. You should talk to Mr. Gold, I will accompany you if you like.»

Emma sighed, «Thanks, but I can go by myself, I already dragged you into this, I don't want to you worry about it.»

Regina smiled, «Ok, if that's what you want.» she was about to leave, but turned around, «And Emma, if you want to stop by for a chat and something to drink, you are more than welcome.»

Emma smiled widely, «Thanks, I might just do that, and I'll let you know how this goes.» She paused briefly, «And then I'm gonna introduce you to the X-Files and my two good friends Fox Mulder and Dana Scully.»

…..

Regina sat down in her car and drove home, and was sincerely hoping that Emma would figure this out.

As she pulled up the car in her drive way, she noticed the kitchen light was on, and she specifically remembered that she had turned it off when she left.

She walked in the front door and noticed two pairs familiar walking boots in the hallway, they were Roland and Robin's. A strong smell of garlic filled her nostrils. When she entered the kitchen, her favorite sight evolved before her; Robin in an apron, Henry slicing vegetables, and Roland helping his dad stir in the pot. Roland noticed her and exclaimed, «Gina!» and he ran towards her, and Regina crouched and let the little boy into her arms. «Hi sweetie. What are you doing?» Roland who was now sitting in her knee answered; «We are making dinner, and papa's making my favorite food! Spaghetti!»

Regina laughed as she rose, «Is that so?» she approached Henry and placed a kiss on his forehead, «Hi sweetheart.»

«Hi mom.» he smiled and continued what he was doing.

At last Regina met Robin, she chuckled, «The apron suits you dear.»

Robin chuckled as well and placed a kiss on her lips, «Hi.» he whispered softly.

In the midst of it all, Regina could not think of anything else, this, what she had right now, she wanted. The beautiful family they now were, Henry was happy, Roland was happy, Robin was happy. She was happy.

…..

I know this was a different chapter, but I just felt the need to make a little twist- don't worry, I am NOT going to let this interfere with Regina's happiness, it's just some action on the side.. I have watched all of the X-Files, so I just couldn't help myself with the references, hahaha!

Have any thoughts about this? Let me know!
