Chapter 21- A Shooting Star
Regina had just gotten out of bed, and was standing in her kitchen waiting for the water to boil. It was a cold winter morning and snow was lying like a heavy veil over the landscape. It was quite early, only about 7.45, but the snow made it seem lighter outside. The water started boiling and Regina quickly removed the kettle from the stove. She poured the hot water into her favorite teacup and watched as the dried peppermint leaves from her own garden sink to the bottom. No one else was up, Robin and Roland had stayed over, like they had quite frequently lately. Oh, how she loved having her house filled with the people she loved the most. Henry was there too, it was his week here, he would go to Emma's next week.
Even though Regina was standing completely by herself in the slightly chilly kitchen, clutching both her teacup and her robe, she was perfectly content. Her son was there, the man she loved was there, and his son was there. She had come to love Roland as her own, and there was no doubt in her mind that Roland appreciated having a mother-figure in his life. As she became lost in her own thoughts, staring outside, she felt a pair of arms slide around her waist from behind, and hands finding their final resting place on her slightly swollen stomach. «Good morning my love.» Robin said affectionately.
Regina turned around in his arms and faced him. She didn't say anything, just pressed a soft kiss to his lips, she smiled. «Good morning dear.» she hummed. As she turned around again to face the window she said, «It's such a beautiful morning.»
Robin walked over to the stove and reheated the water, «Indeed it is.» Neither of them said anything for a couple of minutes, but it was fine, mornings were for sharing simple sentences and enjoying the silence.
«Let me take you out for a date tonight.» Robin said silently as he turned to look at her.
Regina smiled softly, «That would be nice dear, but you are aware that we are already in a relationship right?»
Robin chuckled and took her hands, «Yes, I know, and I am the luckiest man in the universe. But I mean to take you on a proper date.»
«Alright, but nothing too grand. Just you and me.»
Robin smiled, «Just you and me, milady.»
…..
The had passed rather quickly, but it had been a nice one, Regina had thought. She had spent the day with Henry and Roland, mostly inside. Henry was such a sweetheart, he was so good with Roland, and she was so proud. She didn't know that she could possibly love her son more, but now she did. She would indeed move heaven and earth to ensure his safety.
Henry was so creative, she was surprised; he had gathered supply for a scrap book from Regina's office and started making a storybook with Roland. Thus they had spend the whole afternoon drawing and glueing pictures into that book. At one point, Regina had to prepare some lunch, and the kids had continued their work, she hadn't seen the finished result yet. Both Henry and Roland wanted it to be a surprise.
Robin had been gone most of the day, preparing for their 'proper date'. Regina chuckled at the idea; he was a true gentleman.
Henry had offered to stay home for the night with Roland until Regina and Robin returned. It seemed he too would move heaven and earth to ensure Regina's happiness.
Regina had accepted his offer with a kiss to his forehead; the forehead to which she no longer needed to bend down to. He was growing so big.
She started getting ready for the date, Robin had only informed her that the date was going to be outside, so there was no chance for a pencil dress tonight.
When Robin arrived, he had white lilies in his hands, 'to match with the snow' he said. They said good night to Henry and Roland, and then they were out the door.
Robin had grabbed her hand from exiting the mansion, and kept holding it close to him.
«Are you going to tell me where we are going? It's strangely feeling like deja vu.» Regina asked curiously.
Robin chuckled, «Deja vu? We've done this before?»
«On one of our first dates I didn't know where we were going.» She smiled.
«Well, you will see soon enough.» Robin said and raised Regina's hand to his mouth and kissed the outside of the glove.
Oh, he had sure chosen the right evening for this date. It was the clearest night in a long time, and the moonlight completely illuminated the hills and woods covered in snow. The stars were glistering in the cold, dark blue, winter sky. Every time either of them exhaled, frozen damp traveled in the sky for a couple of moments. It was winter indeed.
After walking for a little while on a clear path, while talking, and Robin constantly checking if Regina was ok, they reached a small path that led into the woods. Robin took a stronger grip on Regina's hand, and led her in front of him. They continued on the same path for merely a few minutes, and a fantastic clearing emerged out of nowhere; Regina couldn't believe that she had not seen this open space before. Just at the edge of the forest, Robin had prepared a fire, and some wooden benches. A bag packed with blankets and other useful things was standing next to it. «Oh, Robin, this is amazing.»
He led her to the spot and put some of the blankets on the bench, and ushered Regina to sit down. He then took another blanket and tucked it tightly around her. He crouched down and lit the fire. When he was content that it would survive, he went to sit next to Regina. He gently lifted Regina's blanket from her right side, and put his arm around her and fixed the blanket around them both. They were positioned in such a way that they had a perfect view of the rest of the clearing, and the stars and moon in the sky. «You planned this well, dear.» Regina whispered almost; afraid to disturb the perfect silence of the outside nature.
«Of course I did, all for you my love.» he answered in the same whisper as Regina. They shared the silence for a few moments, until Regina dared to break it a bit; «Robin,» she said as she turned towards him, «Would you and Roland consider to move in with us?» When Robin stayed silent for a second, Regina started again, «You are already at the mansion quite a lot, and Henry seems to enjoy the company as well.» Before Regina got explain her reasons any further, Robin pressed his lips to hers, soft kisses, feeling exactly right. «We would love nothing more.» He said and gave her another kiss. When they parted, Regina put her head on his shoulder, and they looked at the sky. A minute passed, and Regina raised her head again; «Look, a shooting star.» she whispered, «You should make a wish.»
As Regina looked up, she felt Robin's arm around her waist tighten, as he sighed contently, «I already have all I wish for.»
