Some Kind of Miracle
Chapter Two
"It would start raining," Sayuri said as rain poured heavily over them. She smiled when she saw Ultimo coming towards them. Suddenly one of the evil dôji in ultimate form came at him from the side and stabbed him through the side; went in through one side and out the other. She heard a faint crack. She watched in horror as the dôji pulled free and left. Ultimo floated there for a few seconds then he descended like a rock. Sayuri felt tears in her eyes, "ULTIMO…!"
"Sayuri wait, don't," Regula told her as her energy swirled around her; it was too late; in a blink of an eye she was gone. "Damn it," He flew after her.
"Ultimo," Sayuri screamed with tears flowing rapidly when she found him. She collapsed beside him and saw his chest ripped open; she saw that his Spirit Sphere was cracked; the light was struggling to stay aglow. He stared at nothing with lifeless eyes. "Ultimo, Ultimo," She shook him gently. He didn't respond. "Oh God no…"
"Sayuri," Regula landed, "Sayuri what the hell are you thinking taking off like that?"
"Ultimo's hurt, Regula!"
"I see that. I'm not blind, I saw what happened. What I meant was what were you thinking taking off on you own like that?"
"Is there any way to save him Regula?" She looked at the bald dôji.
Regula shook his head, "No…"
A shockwave vibrated off Sayuri's heart when it finally shattered and rushed through her body. She looked at Ultimo, "You can't die, you can't…I need you." She peered at his Spirit Sphere; the light was still fighting to stay alit. She slipped her hands into his chest and held the Sphere gently in her hands. She took a deep breath, "This may not work," She thought, "But I have to try…" Sayuri began to concentrate her energy. Her hands got warm then the energy swirled gently around the Spirit Sphere. "Please Ulti, I need you…" A tear slipped off her cheek and plopped onto Ultimo's Spirit Sphere. The energy began to swirl faster. Sayuri began to become nervous, "Stay calm, stay calm. Focus on the task at hand," She told herself.
"What happened?" Pardonner found them, "Ultimo, no!" He came up and kneeled beside Sayuri.
"What are you doing Sayuri?" Regula had to shield his eyes from the bright light casted by her energy.
"I have to save him, I have to," Sayuri felt his Spirit Sphere beginning to get warm; the glow was glowing stronger. "Ulti," She realized that it was working, "Take him under your wing, become his salvation and deliver him from the jagged claws of demise; Incantation thirty-nine; Angel of the fiery dawn."
The small group was consumed in a blinding light then the force sent them flying back. Pardonner was slammed into a tree. Regula was consumed in the branches. Sayuri rolled into a tree and then everything went black…
"Sayuri-chan," A faint voice called her name. She felt a soft touch against her skin. Her vision was blurry, but she could see someone above her, then she realized that someone was holding her. "Sayuri-chan," She heard the voice again.
Sayuri's vision cleared, she was now on her feet. She broke down in happy tears and threw her arms around his neck, "ULTI!"
Pardonner and Regula stood nearby. Ultimo chuckled and hugged her. Sayuri pulled away and looked at him. "It's okay Sayuri-chan, everything's okay," He told her.
"I thought…I thought…" She swallowed and forced her tears to stop. She stood. She squealed in pain and dropped to the ground.
"Sayuri-chan," Ultimo kneeled by her, "What's wrong?"
Sayuri panted as she held her side. She looked at him then her side and she removed her hand to reveal that her side was bleeding and her hand was covered with blood. Sayuri looked at him,
"Ulti…it…hurts…" She fell forward against his body.
"I'm going to go get Shakujii-sensei," Pardonner flew off.
Ultimo leaned Sayuri against his body to support her. Regula growled in frustration, "Sayuri I thought you used your energy to heal yourself!"
"Don't yell at her!" Ulti snarled at him.
Sayuri grabbed Ultimo's shirt, "It okay Ulti. I was Regula, but I used it on healing Ulti. My wellbeing shouldn't be of any concern right now." She whimpered in pain.
"Are you crazy? You might bleed to death."
"That's just fine with me," Sayuri rested her head against Ultimo's shoulder.
"Why are you talking like this," Ultimo looked at her surprised.
"The amount of blood lose is making her delirious," Regula said.
Sayuri's breathing became ragged and shallow, she was almost to that point; she couldn't hold on much longer. She was out of physical strength but her feeble grip on Ultimo's sheet remained. "Sayuri-dear, my God," Dr. Koun ran up with Pardonner flying beside him.
"Dr. Koun," Ultimo looked at him.
Dr. Koun inspected her wound, "I have to perform emergency surgery in order to save her, but unfortunately I do not have the necessary tools and, of course, this place is…"
"Shakujii-sensei, excuse me for interrupting, but," Pardonner said, "Me and Ultimo can fly you two to your clinic. It's not too far from here, correct?"
"I hate to break it to you Pardonner, but you guys won't be able to fly out of here, it's a full-out
war out here." Regula said.
"Then we'll have to run," Ultimo stood with Sayuri cradled in his arms. He became drenched in her blood.
"Yes," Pardonner nodded.
"Ulti…forget me…I'm not…worth it…" Sayuri struggled to speak.
"No," Ultimo said firmly. "I'm not going to let you die," His voice softened.
"Let's go," Pardonner said with the doctor on his back.
"Yes," Ultimo nodded. A hurricane-like gust of wind blew through the trees when they took off. They were running so fast that they were invisible to human eyes. Ultimo peered down at Sayuri; she was unconscious. Her bleeding hadn't slowed down at all. They ran even faster, if they didn't hurry she would definitely bleed out.
"We're here," Pardonner ran through a closed door, not bothering to open it first. Ultimo ran in after him.
"Just place her on the table," Dr. Koun told Ultimo as he and Pardonner rushed around gathering the necessary tools.
Ultimo did what he was told, "Just hang on Sayuri-chan, please…for me…I love you…" He whispered to her. Ultimo had to step out when the doctor began the emergency procedure with Pardonner as his assistant. He couldn't stand to see him cut into her. An hour had passed and the doctor still wasn't done. Ultimo looked up when the club walked in. "What…it's over?"
"Yes," Jealousy nodded beside Rune, "We killed the masters, except for the child," He gestured to Hana unconscious in Hiroshi's arms, "And destroyed the evil dôji's' Spirit Spheres."
"Even Vice's?"
"No," Regula shook his head, "He got away, but K is dead, we made sure of it. Chances are he'll come after Sayuri again."
Ultimo sat down then he sighed and leaned his head back against the wall. He popped up when the door rolled open. The doctor looked at all of them then at Ultimo then he smiled, "She's going to be just fine. Several weeks of rest should do it."
Ultimo felt a tear slid down his cheek; he exhaled a big sigh of relief. "She wants to see you," Pardonner told him.
Ultimo looked at the doctor, who nodded, "Just don't make any unnecessary noise, she needs her rest." He said.
Ultimo nodded then went into the room. She turned her head slowly then smiled at him weakly, "Hey," She said softly. Ultimo smiled and went to her. He hugged her gently. Sayuri hugged him back with the strength she could muster, which wasn't much.
"I thought that you were gonna…," Ultimo caressed her cheek.
"I'm not going anywhere Ulti. I'll always be with you even if I did die." Sayuri said. She was about to say something else but Ultimo pressed his lips against hers. She kissed him back.
"I'm glad that you didn't die," Ultimo told her.
"I am too."
