Chapter 2: First to Leave
Cammie's P.O.V.
I found myself shaking my head as I took a couple steps closer to Zach. "I don't understand."
"Young spies have been disappearing," he answered.
"So you're saying that people are after all of us… again?" I asked.
"I guess. At first I suspected the teachers, but I did my own investigation and they aren't involved," he revealed.
"So that's why you're roaming the halls of the Gallagher Academy? Shouldn't you be at Blackthorne?" I asked.
"It doesn't matter," he shrugged. "It's not like they notice. It's not like they care."
"It's dangerous," I replied. "How did you get in by yourself anyways?"
"Who said I was on my own?" he smirked.
"There are more people here?" I asked.
"Not here exactly, but yes," he answered.
I raised an eyebrow at this and gestured for him to continue. "Who?"
"Not important. All that matters is that you watch your back and that you don't tell anyone," he insisted.
And then in the blink of an eye, he disappeared, leaving me standing in the empty halls alone.

The next day I woke up with a bad feeling in the pit of my stomach. I shook my head, ignoring my better intuition and I got ready for class before leaving my room with Bex, Macey, and Liz.
"Cammie, are you ok?" Bex asked, taking notice of my unstable demeanor.
"I'm fine," I shrugged. "Why wouldn't I be?"
"You've been acting kind of weird," Liz pointed out.
"Well…" I began. "There is one small thing."
"What's going on?" all three of them asked.
"The last few nights I've sort of been meeting up with Zach-," I began.
"Zach! Of course it has something to do with him," Macey interrupted.
I sighed, my shoulders slumping in defeat. "People have been disappearing." I revealed.
"Who?" Liz asked.
"Young spies," I answered.
"That's it?" Bex asked.
"That's all he told me," I nodded.
"Then we need to find out more," Bex declared.
"Do you know if Zach will be here tonight?" Macey asked.
I shook my head. "No, but there's a chance."
"Then we'll be waiting," Macey nodded before looking back at Liz and Bex. "He's going to give us answers."
"You think he'll actually tell us?" I asked.
Bex smirked and shrugged lightly. "He's sort of afraid of us."
"Let's get some breakfast," I said, looping my arms with Macey and Bex. "I really don't want to talk about this anymore."
They nodded in agreement and we walked to breakfast in silence.

After breakfast we followed our daily routine. However, I found it hard to concentrate in any of my classes, only catching slight phrases here and there.
"Trust is very important. It's also one of the hardest things. Not everyone is worth trusting. Sometimes the people you've known the most can't be trusted."
That's all I heard during my cove-ops lesson. Those four sentences repeated in my head all day until the sun set and we found ourselves preparing to find Zach.
We snuck out and split up, doing our best to locate the boy. After 20 minutes of walking I decided to give up and I spoke into my comms unit. "I'm calling it quits. Let's go."
I tugged at my lower lip with my teeth for a moment before turning to head back. That's when I turned to find Zach right behind me.
"What are you doing?" he asked.
I scoffed at this and folded my arms against my chest. "Looking for you. I want answers."
"I know, but I can't tell you anything. Also, tell your friends I know they're here so they can come out of their hiding spots," he added.
Bex, Macey, and Liz suddenly appeared from the darkness and they stood beside me.
"We know you know more," Macey told him.
"I would usually be intimidated right about now, but lately I've been encountering much more terrifying people," he revealed.
"Just tell us more," Bex demanded.
Zach shook his head. "I've told you all you need to know. We're handling it."
"Who's we?" Macey asked.
Zach's signature smirk suddenly appeared on his face. "Wouldn't you like to know?"
I took a step forward, my eyes boring into Zach's. "Answer the question."
Zach thought about it for a moment, before sighing. "Two other people."
"Grant and Jonas?" Macey guessed.
"Sure," Zach shrugged.
"Where are they?" I asked.
"I never said it was them, all I said was sure," he smirked.
"Zach, tell us," I pleaded.
He shook his head and slipped his hands into his pockets. "I told you already. Two other people."
"And who are those people?" Bex asked.
"So we're going to do this again?" Zach laughed. "You're wasting time."
"Zach," Bex narrowed her eyes at him.
Zach shrugged and raised his hands up in mock defense. "Fine. You want to know something, I'll tell you something. You're next."
Bex furrowed her brow at this and stepped forward. "What?"
"I told you to not tell anyone, but you didn't listen and now all of you are on the list. And you," he paused and pointed a finger at Bex. "You're next."
"You better be joking," Macey laughed a bit.
"You know me, do I ever joke?" he pointed out.
"Zach," His name left my lips in a whisper and a gulped before asking, "what's going to happen?"
He merely shook his head and began walking back. "I warned you. Now you're in and you know how impossible it is to get out."
I turned to look at my roommates and they all had the same look on their faces. Fright and confusion. When I turned back Zach was gone.
If Zach was right then we all had to watch our backs or else we'd be the first to leave.
