Chapter 3: We Were Warned

Cammie's P.O.V.

I woke up the next morning to the sound of Bex's alarm clock.

I groaned and turned over in my bed, my eyes glued shut. "Bex, can you turn that off?"

The alarm clock continued to make noise and I sighed before looking over at her bed. "Bex?"

I lifted my head and saw that her bed was empty.

"Macey, Liz wake up," I demanded as I stumbled out of bed.

They both got out of bed and stood next to me. "She's gone."

We stood there for another 5 minutes in complete silence, unsure of what to do.

"W-w-we have to do something," Liz stuttered.

"How?" I asked. "We don't know anything and the only person that does won't tell us anything."

"There has to be a way," Macey insisted.

I nodded and walked up to Bex's bed and took off the sheets, searching for anything that'd give clue to her whereabouts. After a minute or so of searching, I saw a piece of paper that was perfectly folded into a small square.

"Guys," I called Liz and Macey to where I was standing. "There's a piece of paper."

"Open it," Liz demanded.

I hesitated before unfolding the piece of paper only to find a vague three word message. "You were warned. –S" I read out loud.

Macey and Liz glanced at each other, worried expressions each of their faces. I looked up from the paper, a new fire lit within me. "We need to find Zach."

It passed hours till it was finally midnight. Macey, Liz, and I left our room quickly and rushed down the halls with urgency.

We kept an eye out for Zach until after 15 minutes, Macey stopped. "Ok, this never works. We have to wait for him to come to us."

"You don't have to wait any longer," I heard a voice say. All three of us turned around to find the one and only Zachary Goode.

"Zach, we need to know more," I begged.

He leaned against the wall, his eyes dark, as if he didn't have a care in the world. "Why?"

"Bex is gone." I informed him.

He chuckled lightly as he shook his head. "I warned you."

A chill ran down my back at those three words and I gulped. "You have to help."

He walked closer to me, still shaking his head. "You just don't get it. It's not my mess."

"What's that supposed to mean?" Macey asked.

"You're on your own. It's your problem." He spat out.

"Zach, she could die," I muttered.

"Listen Gallagher girl," his eyes burned with anger and I fight myself shrink under his stare. "I told you to not tell anyone, but, like always, you didn't listen. All I ever do is try to protect you, but you keep getting tangled up in trouble. This is your problem. I can't and I won't help you."

By the end of the sentence, his voice has lowered to a low whisper.

"She's in danger," Liz reiterated.

"And whose fault is that?" he snapped.

I frowned at the statement and I turned my back to Zach, choosing to leave before he got the chance to disappear.

The next morning we sat quietly during breakfast. The day passed by quickly and none of us had said a word.

When it was dark we didn't even try to find Zach. We knew he wouldn't help.

"We can't sit here and do nothing," Macey exclaimed.

"Then what do we do? We don't know a thing. The one person that does won't tell us because he doesn't want to get involved," I groaned.

Liz chuckled a bit. "Oh please, Zachary Goode not wanting to be involved. That's like us ever being able to have a normal life. He's obviously keeping a secret."

"The thing is, what is it?" I asked.

Macey suddenly stood up and said, "I'm not going to wait to find out. Let's go."

We found Zach easily that time. He turned around knowing we would be there.

"Zach, you know what we want," I said.

I looked him in the eyes, expecting the same anger as the other day, but instead I saw worry.

"Fine," he shrugged.

"What happened to not being involved?" Macey questioned.

His jaw tightened at the question and he shoved his hands into his pockets. "Jonas. He's been captured."

"So you're going by yourself?" I asked.

"No," he answered.

Once the word left his lips I noticed a body behind him.

"Who's there?" I asked.

Suddenly, Grant stepped out of the shadows.

"That's it. You're just going to run off on this big mission?" I asked.

Zach's face suddenly became stone cold and he stepped forward before saying, "If you want to come I won't stop you. I don't care about not getting involved anymore. It's personal now."

I nodded. "What's your plan then?"

"I'm going to get my friend back. It's as simple as that. So, are you coming?"
