Chapter 5: Distractions are a Big Part of being a Spy
Cammie's P.O.V.
I stood frozen, my eyes unable to look anywhere except at the man in front of me.
"What are-," Zach began as he caught up to me. He stopped dead in his tracks upon spotting the man pointing the gun at me.
"I suggest you stay still if you want your little girlfriend to live," the man advised.
Zach raised his hands up in surrender, but the gesture didn't quite reach his face. He smirked and shot back, "are you sure she's the one that's going to get hurt?"
The man's expression didn't change. Instead, he scoffed at the comment. "I've known you too long to be afraid of you, Zachary Goode."
Zach's smirk widened and he nodded his head to the wall behind the man. "You sure? Turn around."
The man narrowed his eyes at Zach and he did as he was told, turning to find Macey and Grant.
"You're a bunch of kids," he exclaimed.
"Think again," Macey replied.
The man immediately turned back to find only me standing there, Zach nowhere in sight.
"I don't like games, Goode," he practically growled.
"Then turn around," Zach replied.
He turned back one final time to see only Zach. The teen grabbed his arm and forced his body to twist, before taking his gun.
"Who sent you?" Zach asked.
The man remained quiet, his eyes now fixated on the sky. He no longer looked worried. He actually looked relieved. "You're too late."
That was when I heard it, the heavy hum of a vehicle approaching. The wind blew violently and the leaves swirled around as a helicopter hovered over us.
I looked up into the night sky and saw another man. Behind him stood two other figures, one of which threw a ladder down to the ground.
The man Zach was holding reached out and grabbed it, pushing Zach away from him. "Too bad. You were so close."
The helicopter immediately pulled him up and he was soon out of sight.
Zach sighed before running a hand through his hair and walking back into the crowd. I glanced at Macey, searching for some sort of explanation, but she looked as confused as me. That was when I decided to turn to Grant, but like Zach he had run off and disappeared into the crowd.

When we got to the hotel we immediately told Liz everything that had happened.
"What do you think he meant by 'I've known you too long to be afraid of you, Zachary Goode'?" I asked.
"I don't know," Macey shrugged. "The only thing that I do know is that he's keeping secrets. Both of them."
"Then we should find them," Liz suggested. "They both left their rooms."
"Are you saying we should look through their things?" I asked.
"That's exactly what I'm saying," Liz nodded.
Macey smirked and she jumped up from her seat. "Let's do it."
"I'll stay here and alert you if they come back to their room," Liz offered.
Macey and I nodded before leaving our hotel room. We walked down the hall to the boys' room which was completely vacated.
Macey eyed the door carefully before placing her hand on the doorknob and pushing it open. "It's unlocked."
I brushed off the bad feeling that suddenly filled my stomach and I followed Macey into the room. We flipped the light switch upon entering and exchanged a quick look before we both started to rummage through bags and drawers.

I stood in the hall a few doors away from the boys' room. I sighed and leaned back against the wall, regretting my decision to be look out.
"How long have they been in there?" I asked myself as I glanced down at my watch.
Suddenly, I heard footsteps coming from down the hall. I immediately perked up and glanced in the direction of the noise to find Grant. My eyes widened and I stepped away from the wall, making my presence known to him. "Grant."
"Hey Liz," he greeted me briefly and tried to side step me but I blocked his path.
He furrowed his brow at my actions and crossed his arms against his chest. "I need to go to my room."
"You can't," I blurted out.
He raised an eyebrow at the statement. "Why?"
"Umm…" I hesitated and searched my brain for an answer. "That's a good question."
"Liz?" He called me to attention and my eyes shot back to him. "What's going on?"
"Things," I chuckled nervously, instinctively pushing loose strands of hair behind my ear.
Grant sighed and his arms dropped to his side. "Why can't I go to my room?"
I couldn't think of anything else to say in response, so I did the only thing that came to mind. I kissed him.
My lips crashed against him in a flash and I felt Grant stumble back at the force. It lasted for only a few seconds, Grant unresponsive for all of them, before I pulled away.
"I'm so sorry," I apologized immediately, heat rising to my cheeks. "I should go."
I turned and attempted to walk back to my hotel room, but before I could Grant took hold of my wrist and he pulled me back.
He stared at me for a moment, his eyes searching for something that I wasn't quite sure of, before his lips were on me again. This time Grant was all in. One hand was wrapped around my waist, pulling me closer, and the other was on the side of my face, cupping my cheek.
I didn't quite understand what was happening or why it was happening or even if what was happening was happening correctly. I had never kissed a boy before, though if I had known it was going to be like that, all passion and fire and a warmth filling my entire body, I probably would've done it a lot earlier.
Grant suddenly pulled away, his forehead resting against mine and his warm breath hitting my face.
"Umm, I," Grant tried to find words to say, but nothing was coming out.
"Bye," I waved at Grant and immediately turned my back to him and ran away, giving him no opportunity to call me back.
I kept running until I reached my hotel room where I stopped in front of the door and tried to catch my breath. I sighed and let my fingers graze my lips, missing the feel of Grant's lips and tongue on mine.

Macey and I made it out of their room safely. We retreated to our room immediately and upon entering, saw that Liz wasn't there.
"Where do you think Liz is?" I asked.
"Don't know," Macey shrugged.
We sighed and sat down on our beds, deciding to wait for Liz before discussing what we had found. After 12 minutes Liz entered the room.
"Where were you?" I asked.
"I had to distract Grant from getting to his room and it lasted longer than I thought," Liz answered.
"What did you do?" Macey asked.
"Doesn't matter," Liz quickly dismissed the question. "Did you find anything?"
"We found absolutely nothing which honestly is a lot more odd than finding something. It's almost like they knew we were going to search through everything," I explained.
"Maybe they just have no secrets," Liz suggested.
"Or they hid them pretty well," Macey offered.
"Doesn't matter," I shrugged. "It was all for nothing."
"We should go to sleep. I don't know about you but I kind of want to forget about today," Liz advised.
She reached over to her nightstand and turned off the lights before we all fell asleep.

We woke up the next morning to the sound of a heavy knock on the door. I stood up, yawned, and opened it to see Zach. His smirk appeared on his face and he said, "Time for our next destination, Egypt."
