Severus Snape's POV
He stood there staring at the familiar young girl. He remembered her from Malfoy's party. At the party she was known by many as an intelligent young girl who has quite a bit of potential, yet he knew what she was and it seemed he was right. The girl's lips curved to a clever smile as her familiar voice rang in his ear,
"Why? Too afraid to say something in front of a little girl?"
He peered at her as his sneer turned into a grimace. She was clever like Black but there was something off about her.
"...So you are the girl?...You're nothing more that a child...A bumbling belligerent kid who believes she can do anything, just because of what one person may say. I'm sure Black has sugar coated his words with praises but what I see is..."
"Oh and I suppose you know everything about me? About what I've done and who I may be?"
"I don't need to, I can clearly see for myself that you're just another stuck up child who has her head up in the clouds."
"Don't you dare underestimate anyone, for looks are deceiving…You would know of course."
Severus glared at the girl as he was about to say something but Black jumped in and yells out,
"Why you git!
Sirius grabbed Severus by the collar as their faces were inches apart,
"How dare you say that to her! She has sacrificed more than you could imagine, unlike you!"
"Sirius!"
Severus swiftly took out his wand and pressed it against Black's chest and casted a nonverbal spell, making the man fly back and hit the wall. He heard the man give out a groan as Severus was about to put his wand away he saw a flurry of hair rush to him shove him back. He felt the impact against his back. He looked to see harsh amber eyes of the large beast looking into his as it gave out a growl.
"Valiant! DOWN!"
He heard the girl's voice give out the command as the beast release it's hold and walked over to it's master. It sat next to her but had it's eyes on him at all times. The girl looked at Severus as he noticed her eyes flicked to a strange color of green for a split moment. Sirius was back on his feet as he stood next to the girl while Dumbledore held his hand out,
"Enough! We have not come here to start a battle but to prevent a war! My dear, could you go to your room while I discuss with these gentlemen about your situation."
The girl nodded her head and gave a little curtsy before leaving the room with her mutt following after her. The large wolf gave Severus a death glare but something else was bothering him until it hit him. He looked at Sirius Black and said slowly,
"...That mutt...Was the same one that attacked me in the shack wasn't it…"
"What keen observation you have Snevillus-"
"Sirius! Enough already...Let us get back to business."
Dumbledore sat by the fire as he calmly explained to Sirius why Severus was needed. Severus was the only one in the school that could not only train Serenity but monitor any movement of Voldemort. As Severus listened to the elderly wizard his eyes wandered around the images of the Black family tree. He gave a small mental smirk when he saw Sirius' face burned away. As his eyes moved it stopped on one particular portrait. He gripped the arm of his armchair til his knuckles went white as he saw green eyes looking back at him.
The drawing caught her air of calmness yet her eyes were those of a noble. She had a gentle smile as golden hair surrounded her fair skinned face, like sun ribbon below the portrait was elegantly around her as it said in elegant black letters her name. He didn't expect to see her portrait but then he remembered that she's Sirius Black's niece. Suddenly things started to piece in his head as he remembered Dumbledore told him the girl's full name in the hospital.
" The B. in her name. What does it stand for?"
"...I trust you will tell no one of this...Her full name is Serenity Alice Black Aragon…"
Severus suddenly felt something was wrong as he heard Dumbledore speak to him.
"Severus, I would like to speak to Sirius alone for a moment...If you could step out of the room for a few minutes."
Severus glanced at Sirius who returned his look with a glare. He nodded his head as she silently stood up and walked out of the room. Once he stepped out he could hear Black hissing and huffing while Albus was trying to calm the damn fool.
For heaven sakes it's just a girl…
As he slowly walked around the house he noticed it was quite dirty from being vacant for so long. He heard a low mumbling sound as he glanced to see a house elf mopping the floors quite poorly.
"...Mistress...Kreacher feels so ashamed...Mistress is gone but new heir has arrived...One that would make old Mistress cry…"
He didn't understand what the creature was muttering about as he walked up the stairs to look at the various portraits and photos of the Black family. Even rare antiques that have great value, when Severus took a glance. He looked up and had to do a double take as down the hall the girl stood staring at a painting before turning her body to enter into one of the rooms. He was quiet enough to walk without a sound, despite the house being so old. He glanced into the room to find her sitting on a chair, curled up with a book open. She didn't look up as she just said,
"Would you like to come in? Or you don't want to associate yourself with a child."
He snorted derisively as he entered the room. It was simply furnished with antique items and arranged neatly. Books on the bookshelf looked old but some looked recently bought like the one she had in her hand. He noticed a trunk next to the bed, but besides that everything seemed normal. He looked around but his eyes moved back to the girl,
"Hm...Nothing but a brat aren't you?"
"'There is a stubbornness about me that never can bear to be frightened at the will of others. My courage always rises at every attempt to intimidate me.'"
His eyebrow raised as he peered at her. Slowly the girl moved her head up to look back at his as he noticed some kind of change in her, an air as she tilted her head and gave a small smile. She raised the book she was reading, a muggle book called Pride and Prejudice. He has never read it before but never had an interest in it as the girl rose and placed the book on the bookshelf. She turned her body slightly as for a moment he thought the colors of her eyes changed but it was back to normal.
He gave a look of suspicion as he looked at the fire to see the sparks couldn't look at her for he knew this familiar feeling arise from within himself. The girl walked over next to him, looking at the flames as well as he asked,
"...You said I shouldn't dare underestimate anyone, for looks are deceiving and you said I've already experienced such thing...Why do you say that?"
"Because you gave yourself to the devil and in return had your heart shattered. You thought they were your friends, these death eaters, and instead turned you into an empty shell. You, Professor, have no heart, for the woman you once loved is gone and now you have the task of watching over her son. One who looks just like his father…"
Severus looked at the fire as his mind wandered to Lily for a moment, thinking about how beautiful she was when they were younger. But the image he saw in the flames changed as his mind wandered to a different girl. How her golden hair shined in the day and her smiles brightened up any dark pathway. She not only brought the best out of people but spark their full potential without even trying.
"...What you say it true but you don't know everything about me...How do you know about all of this?"
"I just know...As I said before during dinner at Malfoy Manor, I'm a seer. Everyone has their secrets, and sometimes I just stumble upon them…"
"I see...So how much have you sacrificed in your life? For it seems like Black believes you have given quite a bit."
"I've done enough to get this far but I know I'll end up losing more...For every step I take down this path of mine, the salvation of our world goes up. I want to protect the ones I love."
"Yet you evade the question of what have you done to show you have sacrificed the most?"
"...I died…"
He turned to look to see the girl staring back at him.
"...You little twit, you're not dead, you're standing right here"
"But who I was before is gone, for now I have gone to the shadows to do my work… If you allow it, I would like you to train me for any situation that may come upon me."
"Such as?"
"Such as Defense Against the Dark Arts or Potions. Like a private tutor to train me up to your standards, which I've heard you're quite a formidable opponent."
Severus looked at the girl. She looked very well to be bright but something was hidden behind those grey eyes of hers, something of her past. Though she was young she seemed to be smart enough to handle her own.
"I have also heard from Dumbledore you would like to be trained like an Auror."
"Yes...I would like to prepare myself for anything."
"Hmmm…Strange how you're doing all of this for people you say you love, yet your story from the ball suggest the main person in your life was your mother, who is dead. Also you said you found out about Black as your father not that long ago so you are either hiding something from me, or you lying to me...Who are you really, Alice Black? Or is that even your real name...Because I know for a fact that name belonged to Miss Serenity Alice Black Aragon...Who are you really?"
He notice the girl stiffen for a moment as she flickered her eyes at him. That's when he noticed her eyes changed. They weren't grey anymore but green. It felt like time went still until suddenly both of them had their wands in hand, ready for a duel until Albus came in.
"Severus! Stop this at once, and you too young lady!"
They both lowered their wands as he turned to look at Albus with Sirius Black next to him.
"Severus I told you there was also something else that was important about this girl."
"She's not who she says she is."
"...You are correct, just give us a moment...Please reveal yourself my dear."
The girl looked extremely hesitant for a moment as she looked up at Sirius who gave a nod to her. She nodded back as she placed her wand away. She took a breathe as Severus watched to see the girl he met at a party disappear to expose a forgotten memory.
Her black silk hair changed like the night to the sun, as golden soft locks of hair fall around her face. Her face was removed of these sharp facial features to become soft like an angels as the green in her eyes were pure as they once were. She became a bit smaller, more petite as her once pale skin turn into one that was in a beautiful fair color of health. That familiar feeling he had earlier now arose to the surface, as the shell he created when he saw her lifeless body on the bed cracked away. He stared at her as she flickered her eyes up at him and said in a soft voice,
"...I told you...I died…"
