Riley POV/chapter three

I heard someone enter the front door, and figured that it was Maya, I exited the bathroom and I started to walk down the stairs and then saw Maya making a bee line towards the fridge.

"Hey Maya," I said while walking down the stairs. "How'd it go?"

"Hmm?" She muttered. "W-What do you mean?" She asked with an odd sounding voice, it was almost like she was nervous.

"You know, the fake date. Did that jerk Ryan get really jealous?" 'I hope he did,' I thought to myself. Maya smiled, signalling that they did in fact make Ryan jealous.

"Um kind of I guess." She replied a little awkwardly. I wasn't sure why she was being so vague, but I was sure that she was just tired.

"Well that's good." I said with a slight smile. I yawned a little, and stretched. I looked over at Maya with a guilty expression; I didn't want to ruin our night by going to sleep early.

"Sorry, guess I'm kind of tired," I apologized, "you going to spend the night here?" I wasn't sure why I was asking that question because I knew the answer. Maya always would stay over at our house; she was like a member of our family.

"No, I think I'm going to head home," she replied without any hesitation which shocked me, as she had been staying with us for the last two weeks.

"Ok, well, my mum or dad could drive you if you want?" I asked her.

"Yep sure I feel like a drive, I'll be two ticks." My mum said while walking up the stairs, I assumed she wanted to get ready.

"Okay," Maya smiled, but it didn't look like her natural smile, she looked different. "So what are you doing tomorrow?" She asked me nonchalantly.

"I'm going on a date with Lucas. He said it was a surprise, I hope we make it official," I stated with a lot of excitement. I was really excited about our date, I had been crushing on Lucas for so long, and for a while it felt like nothing was going to happen, but when he asked me out for the second date I knew that we could be something special. I looked over to face Maya and saw that she looked quite upset about something.

"Maya?" I asked uncertainly, then I tried to read the emotions that were fitted across Maya's face, I didn't know what exactly she was feeling, but I could tell that she was upset about something, maybe it had something to do with Lucas or Ryan.

"I'm fine Riley," Maya mumbled almost robotically.

"Okay," I replied and went to hug her. Although I still thought something was upsetting her, I felt like she needed a hug.

"Are you ready to go now Maya?" My mum asked Maya while walking down the stairs.

"Yep," she pulled away from our hug.

"Are you sure you don't want to stay?" I asked, hoping that she'd consider it.

"Yeah I really need to go home and do some stuff. But I'll see you tomorrow okay?"

"Yay," I replied pleasantly. "I have my date with Lucas around midday, so we can hang out before or after that?"

"Aha um okay," she stated with a really tense deep breath, making me secretly suspicious again. 'What's with Maya tonight?' I thought to myself 'what really happened on their fake date?'

"Okay well bye," I said while smiling.

"Catcha later!" She responded with a really perky tone. My mum and I eyed each other with puzzled expressions then we looked back at Maya. Maya wasn't acting like herself and I knew she was hiding something because she only ever acted like that when she felt awkward or guilty about something. My mum opened the front door and they exited the house. I closed the door after them and shook my head slightly, stretching my arms over my head and contemplating what to do about what was going on with Maya. I decided that I was going to get to the bottom of Maya's weird mood, and I was determined to find out what it was no matter what. I wasn't exactly sure how but I knew I could get it out of Lucas.
