Author's notes

Hey guys so I was going to do Riley's POV for the date, and I did type a really long chapter of her POV, but when I went to upload it from word I realised that the file had been deleted somehow. I had been looking for a backup for hours, but decided to give up on it. I would have wanted to do another POV but I didn't really feel like doing another one because 1, I don't have the time, 2, I really liked the one I did and I feel like the second attempt would be crappy compared to it, and 3, you guys most probably want to see the next chapter in the story anyways. Thanks for reading my fanfiction by the way, it truly means so much that people actually read it! I honestly thought my story would have like 0 views, so truly means a lot to me:)

I walked into John Quincy Adams Middle School and saw Maya sitting by the table that we all usually sat bye, she was eating some type of breakfast cereal. I figured that we should talk about the kiss; as awkward as I predicted the conversation to be, I knew it had to be done. I walked cautiously to Maya, and when I finally got there I went to take a seat. Maya looked up at me incredulity.

"Um no sorry all these seats are reserved for guys that don't break my best friends heart." I sighed a little, even though she was irritating me, I always admired the closeness of Riley and Maya. They always had each other's back no matter what.

"Maya you know it isn't like that. I never wanted to hurt Riley. I really like her, and just because I'm not ready now it doesn't mean that I'm never gonna be ready." Maya let out a sigh, and turned to face me slightly.

"Okay kid, fine you can have a seat. But if you do anything to hurt Riley today I'm going to make sure that you go back to Texas, okay?" I nodded my head, and took the seat facing across Maya.

"Maya can I talk to you about something?" I questioned, nervously anticipating Maya's reaction.

"What is it?" She answered back grouchily.

"About the kiss," I went to talk more, but she cut me off.

"We don't need to talk about this Lucas, we kissed for our fake date, and thanks for taking it so well, but there's nothing more to it," She stated nonchalantly.

"I know but do you feel weird about it or anything?" I inquired.

"Seriously it's no big deal," she said while shrugging her shoulders, "I don't feel awkward, upset or anything…but if you keep bothering me about the kiss it might be."

"Maya," I said, refusing to back down, but just then Riley walked up to us.

"Hey," I said while looking up a little sorrowfully. "I can move if you want?"

"Um it's okay, you're my friend." She stated with a cherry tone, but I could tell she was still a little hurt over what happened, and I couldn't blame her.

"Oh okay," I stated with a little bit of disbelief; Riley was always so forgiving and that was one of the things that I loved about her.

"My grandma gave me some money to spend. I'm going to get something to drink, you guys want anything?" Riley asked kindly. I smiled at her generosity.

"Yeah I can pay you back though. I'll get a peach iced tea thanks." She nodded her head while smiling, and glanced at Maya.

"What about you M?"

"I'll have a peach iced tea too thanks," Maya muttered casually.

"Okay, I'll be two ticks." Riley went to the counter and I saw her get two peach iced teas and an apple juice. Maya was busy flicking through her cell phone, so we didn't talk while Riley made her purchases. A little while later Riley returned with three beverages clutched to her chest.

"Here you go," she took a seat and passed us our drinks.

"Thanks Riley." Maya popped the cap and immediately took a sip. I looked at Maya worriedly. She really was acting like everything was no big deal. Perhaps I over-reacted to the whole kissing business. 'Fine then' I thought to myself, 'Maya obviously doesn't feel the same way about the kiss as I did. I was stupid to think she would anyway…'

"I need to talk to you guys about something, you appear to be normal now, but what happened with you guys on Friday?"

"What do you mean?" I asked with a simulated oblivious expression.

"Well on Friday after your guys fake date Maya was acting weird, and you were acting a little weird on the Saturday."

"I told you it was Ryan, he's a jerk, but other than that everything was good."

"Lucas, I could tell you weren't telling me everything that went on. What happened?"

"Ah, um…" I trailed off, trying to think up a suitable explanation, but I struggled to do so.

"Ryles, we were both weird because during the fake date Lucas and I had to be really nice to each other and it was a bit weird I guess. I felt like throwing up!" Maya explained. I knew she was lying, but I couldn't help but feel a little offended, because deep down I knew that I didn't hate her.

"Oh ok, well can things get back to normal now?" Riley asked while preparing to take a sip of her apple juice.

"Yep back to normal," I replied. I looked over to face Riley who was tucking a stray strand of hair behind her ear and taking a small sip of her apple juice while smiling at something that Maya was saying. She was beautiful, and I immediately felt the familiar flutter of my heart as I looked at her. I knew that while we were on our date my feelings for her were slightly blinded because of my kiss with Maya but I knew that I liked Riley, and the fact that I had almost considered something happening with Maya seemed laughable when I thought about it. 'Maya and I are friends,' I concluded, 'we fight all the time, but we do still care about each other, and that's all there is to it.' Maya walked off to get a cookie, and I smiled at Riley.

"Hey Riley, I just want to say I'm sorry. And I meant what I said; you're always going to be a princess to me." Riley smiled back, and twirled her hair shyly.

"Thanks Lucas; you're always gonna be my prince I guess," I smiled and I held her hand briefly, but pulled away because I was too shy.

A little while later Maya walked back, looking a little angrier than she had before.

"Hey Maya are you okay?" Riley asked her with a concerned expression.

"Yeah I'm fine. When's Farkle coming back again?" She asked while sitting down on a seat.

"He's coming back the same day as Riley gets back from her vacation I'm pretty sure," I answered.

"I wasn't asking you, I was asking Riley," she stated bitterly.

"Does it matter? I just answered your question," I was confused. Was she trying to pick a fight for no reason?

"Yeah, I'd rather hear it from Riley, not you."

"Listen Maya," I said defensively.

"Listen Maya," she said, mocking me. I was starting to get really frustrated; I hated it when people mocked me.

"Stop it!" I exclaimed.

"You stop it!" She shot back.

"Stop it you two!" Riley interrupted our drabble. "Things sure have got back to normal haven't they? You're bickering like children again."
