Author's notes: Hey guys so this chapter is set like four days after Riley left. Farkle has returned from travelling with his dad, so the three of them have been hanging out a lot, Maya and Lucas are starting to be more comfortable together as well. Anyway just wanted to make that clear. I would also really like to see your guys Reviews :)
Lucas and I arrived at the mall; Farkle, Lucas and I all wanted to go shopping together. My mum's new boyfriend had given me one hundred dollars, which was a lot of money for me at the time. I glanced around and saw Farkle waving at us like a goofball outside the food court. I chuckled a little, and we walked to him.
"Sup Farkle," I greeted him casually, he then smiled at me and twirled the ends of my curled hair.
"Hey sweet thang," he whispered with a really strange seductive voice.
I pulled his hand away and rolled my eyes. "Sorry Farkle, not gonna happen," I stated firmly. Farkle looked at me with a simulated disappointed expression, but quickly changed back into his usual, perky self.
"So where should we go first?" Lucas asked, glancing at both of us.
"I was thinking about going to that new record store. The records there are crazy expensive but I just want to look around," I responded casually.
"I'm just going to get a pretzel and I'll meet you at the book store," Farkle stated.
"I'll come with you then Maya," Lucas told me. I smiled slightly, and then we walked to the Record store. I entered the record store, excited about looking around.
"Wow," I said, looking at the records in awe. "This is so much better than the mainstream music they have nowadays."
"Yeah, so what bands do you recommend for me?" He questioned curiously.
"Hmm for you I'd say backstreet boys," I joked.
Lucas rolls his eyes at my comment, but also smiled slightly. "Very funny Maya," he paused for a moment. "But anyway any rock bands you could recommend for me?" He questioned. I laughed at his comment, thinking that he was kidding.
He looked at me with a serious look plastered across his face. "What's so funny?" He snapped back.
I stared at him with a bemused manner. "Wait you're serious? No offence Lucas but I don't peg you as a rock guy."
He shrugged his shoulders, "I'm not really, but I wanna try some new things."
I nodded my head understandably. "Well you should start off with Nirvana or the Foo fighters, and go from there," I stated nonchalantly.
"Yep. I'm going to check out some of the rock records," Lucas commented.
"Okay, cool," I smiled slightly and he walked off to the rock area. I then started to flick through some of the Hip Hop records.
"Wow someone has a crush on their best friend's boyfriend," a familiar voice stated in a condescending tone. I wasn't sure who it was, but they sounded familiar. I turned around to see Missy, the girl who obviously was obsessed with Lucas.
"Excuse me Milly?" I asked with a feisty tone.
"It's Missy," she retorted bitterly.
"Oh doesn't ring a bell!" I exclaimed while puckering my lips.
"Whatever Maya. If anyone's going to steal Lucas away from Riley, it's going to be me," she retorted.
"I don't like Lucas," I whispered angrily.
"Sure you don't," she responded sarcastically.
"Oh my god Mickey why are you even here anyway? Shouldn't you be getting a manicure or something?" I asked, mocking her.
"It's Missy," she responded, the acid in her voice becoming even stronger.
"Whatever I'm not trying to get with Ranger Rick. Can you please just leave Mippy?" I questioned with a slight smile.
"For the last time, it's Missy!" She exclaimed furiously.
"Be careful Mippy, you don't want to make too much of a scene," I teased in a low whisper.
Missy clenched her teeth angrily, but it quickly changed into a malicious smile. "You're warned Maya,"
I rolled my eyes and chuckled at her comment. "Oh I'm scared," I stated sarcastically. She rolled her eyes, and walked to another area of the store.
Lucas walked up to me with a puzzled expression displayed across his face. "Why did Missy seem so angry?"
I hesitated a little; I knew that I should have told him the truth, but I knew that it would make everything awkward again, so I opted out of telling him anything. "Oh um, I don't know. Something about Manicures and Fashion," I responded with a slight chuckle.
After fifteen minutes in the store, I was starting to feel hungry for a snack. "Are you hungry?" I asked Lucas while we flicked through the Blues records.
He looked at me thoughtfully, "hmm a little." He paused for a moment. "What about you?" He questioned nonchalantly.
I laughed a little. "Yeah when am I not? Should we go get a pretzel?" I asked him.
He nodded his head in unison. "Yeah sounds good."
I went to grab my handbag, but realised that it wasn't there. I glanced around the store frantically, but I couldn't find it.
Lucas tapped my shoulder, and I turned around to see him looking worried. "Maya what's the matter?"
I shook my head repeatedly, "oh no, nothing. It's fine," I responded with a panicked expression. Lucas eyed me suspiciously. As if he suspected that I was up to something.
"What?" I snapped back frustratingly.
Lucas widened his eyes. "Wow sorry. You're just acting kind of weird…" He trailed off, unsure how to continue his sentence. I rolled my eyes, and turned around to see my handbag sitting by the hip hop records. I picked my handbag up and let out a sigh of relief.
"I'm ready to go now," I said to Lucas. He nodded his head and as we walked out of the store for some reason the machine beeped as we exited.
"Mam," the security guard stated with a husky voice.
I looked at him obliviously. "Yeah?" I questioned.
"Do you mind if I look through your handbag?" He questioned.
"What, why?" I questioned with a confused expression.
"Because the machine beeped when you were walking out of the store," he responded.
I shook my head stubbornly. "No, no way. I didn't steal anything!" I exclaimed defensively.
"Mam," the security guard warned.
I figured that it wouldn't be that bad if I let him look through my bag, considering that I had nothing to hide. "Okay, sure," I passed him my handbag, and he started to look through my bag.
What happened next shocked me.
He raised his eyebrow at me, as he took a Tupac record out of my bag. Lucas and I both widened our eyes at the sight. I couldn't believe it. How did it get in there?
I looked at him with a confused expression, "what, how did that get in there?" I questioned. The security guard gave me a serious look, obviously not believing me.
"Are you kidding? I didn't steal anything. I wouldn't have let you look in my bag if I did steal something," I told him. I then turned around to see Missy staring at me happily. That's when it hit me, Missy set me up!
"Kid, you can't get out of this lie," the security guard stated.
"I didn't steal anything okay? I was set up by Missy!" I pleaded desperately. He shook his head yet again, and I was starting to get angrier and angrier by the second. "Seriously! I left my handbag by the hip hop section and I only just found it now. Lucas was with me, Lucas tell him that I didn't steal." I turned to face Lucas, and saw that he looked suspicious. I couldn't believe it. He actually would think that I'd stoop this low?
Lucas stuttered a little. "Uh-but-" I cut him off when I realised what he was going to say.
"Don't bother," I said while shaking my head angrily, trying to hide my hurt.
It had been three days since the incident at the record store. The past three days had been absolute torture; I was risking losing Farkle and Lucas to the evil clutches of Missy, and no matter how much I tried to convince them that Missy set me up, they just wouldn't believe me.
I walked to Lucas's house, even though I was still upset with him, I also needed his help and trust; I believed in our friendship. I knocked on his door nervously; I wasn't sure if I was doing the right thing.
Lucas opened the door and sighed when he saw me. "Look, Maya I want to believe you but your story doesn't add up."
I rolled my eyes, with a slightly angry expression. "You never listened to my story; you just automatically thought the worst of me."
"No Maya I didn't," he said while shaking his head deniably.
"Yes you did. You could have stood up for me, but you didn't." I paused for a moment. "Anyway I don't care about that now. I just need someone to believe me! I need you to help me get Missy caught."
"Maya- " Lucas warned.
"Have I ever come to you for help? For anything?" I asked desperately as I watched Lucas purse his lips in thought. It was obvious that he wasn't going to believe me. Why would he? My confidence had hit an all-time low. Not even Farkle and Lucas could trust me to tell them the truth, and it was hurting me. Farkle's rejection had hurt enough, and now Lucas's refusal to believe and help me was tearing me apart.
I had thought that I started to gain his trust, and I thought our friendship had gotten stronger, but at that moment I realised that nothing had changed between us. He still believed me to be some criminal; that I was nothing more than a thief, and a liar. I felt wetness behind my eyes as I realised he would never believe me.
With that realisation in mind, accompanied by the uncertain look displayed on Lucas's face, I turned on my heel and disappeared around the corner. I rushed away as quickly as I could, sprinting across the street and only stopping to catch my breath at a bus stop two blocks away. I seemed to have sprinted the ominous tears away, and I sunk down on the bench, my head rested in the palm of my hands. For one of the first times in my life I had admitted defeat.
