Author's notes: Hey guys, so here's the next chapter! In this chapter I'll be changing the POV mid chapter. Just thought I'd let you know that. If you don't like that style, please tell me in the reviews Thank you!
Lucas POV
I sat in front of the door to my house, my arms resting on my knees as my mind raced. What Maya said was true; she had never asked me for help with something like this before; she was too stubborn. If she really did steal the record she probably would have admitted to the truth already. I knew that Farkle didn't believe Maya, but maybe his disbelief was the reason Maya was seeking my help in the first place; she had nowhere else to go.
"I'm such an idiot…" I muttered to myself as I began to put the facts together. Maya needed some support, and all I could do was break her down even more. I rested my head on my arms as I started to find a solution to the problem. It was finally obvious to me that Maya really needed me; I hadn't noticed it before because I was so convinced she was wrong, and I felt like a fool for even thinking it. Even though Maya told white lies on a regular basis I should have known that she would never lie about something so extreme, and I should have believed in her.
I grabbed my cell phone out of my jean pocket, and googled the record store's number. I hoped that there would be security footage of what occurred when we were in the store. Once I found the number, I dialled the number and waited for the response.
"Welcome to Groovy Records. How can I help you?" The lady on the other line asked with a monotonous voice.
I took a deep breath, "hi, I'm Lucas. I need to ask a favour…"
Maya POV (next day.)
I entered the school building the next morning with my chin held high. Despite the fact that Lucas and Farkle believed I was a liar, I was going to prove them wrong. My thoughts became more antagonistic when I saw Missy waiting by Lucas's locker as usual.
"Hello Missy," I said, acid dripping from my sickly sweet tone of voice. Missy turned around, initially frowning, but a wide smile soon crept its way across her face.
"Hello Maya," she matched my tone, and her robotic smile widened as I eyed her threateningly. "Long time no see."
"Whatever," I answered, my tone returning to normal as Missy stared at me. "I've had enough of your 'I'm going to ruin your life,' talk, and I think it's time I put you in your place."
"Oh please," Missy responded, rolling her eyes and crossing her arms, giving me a look that made me want to rip her hair out. "I haven't 'ruined your life.' I've just proven that Lucas and Farkle don't respect you."
"What do they have to do with anything?" I asked grumpily. First she had to set me up at the record store, and secondly she decided to get my friends off side too?
"Well they didn't believe you did they? You'd think that your 'best friends' would believe you, but I guess you aren't as close to them as you think. It was difficult convincing Farkle that you stole that record, but it was easy convincing Lucas; he already hates you. I guess your little crush on him is unrequited," she stated with a devilish chuckle.
"Lucas doesn't hate me," I half shouted. My temper had risen throughout Missy's speech, and the declaration of Lucas's hate for me seemed to be the last straw.
I prepared myself to pounce on Missy as she opened her mouth to react, but just then Lucas walked round the corner. I bit on my tongue to hold back what I wanted to say to Missy about mine and Lucas's relationship. Lucas's eyes immediately fell onto me, his face showing concern. We hadn't spoken after what had happened the other night, and I had no desire to either. Without a word I turned around and walked off in the direction of my maths class, leaving Lucas and Missy behind.
Lunch time arrived. I was already at my locker, packing the books from my morning classes into my locker hurriedly. I wanted to get to the cafeteria before bumping into Missy, Farkle and especially Lucas.
"So what's up?" Missy asked mockingly as she approached my locker.
"Oh, you know," I said, tossing the last of my books into my locker and slamming the door, "just putting stuff in my locker, and talking to some snooty witch."
"Oh you are just so offensive," Missy replied sarcastically, not taking offence.
"Hello," I heard behind me, "you," he said while tapping on Missy's shoulder.
Missy turned around to see an unfamiliar man wearing a suit. "Are you Missy Bradford?" He asked her with a professional tone of voice.
"Yeah, why?" She replied obliviously.
"We'd like you to come to the police station," he said while showing her his badge.
"Uhh why?" She asked, suddenly becoming panicked.
"It's about what occurred at Real Groovy records four days ago. We watched the security footage and we now know that you set this young lady up," I snorted a little; finally she was getting what she deserved.
Missy shook her head defensibly, and then tilted her head, trying to be 'cute.' "There must be some type of like mistake."
The man looked at her with a straight face. "No mam, we are certain."
Missy looked at him sadly, "but-but, I mean, I didn't do anything wrong!" She pleaded desperately.
I couldn't hold the smile back as I saw the disappointment on Missy's face. "Hate to break it to you kid, but you kind of did do something wrong," I stated with a purse to the lips.
"Oh wipe that smug look off your face Maya," she retorted angrily. "You deserved to be set up! And it doesn't matter, Farkle and Lucas obviously don't like you anyway, they much prefer kind, normal people, like myself." She stated maliciously.
"Wow," Lucas stated with a look of shock plastered across his face. Missy turned around in surprise to see Lucas and Farkle standing next to each other.
"Oh! Lucas…" Missy started, but he cut her off.
"Missy don't bother, we know everything." Lucas pointed out as Missy tried to cover up her mistake.
"Oops!" I added from the side-lines, enjoying the moment that was playing out in front of me.
"Well," she started, shrugging her shoulders, "we all know that I'll be a much better friend than Maya. She's like a broken doll!" She shouted lightly.
"You're insane, and evil," Farkle commented. "And you were never my friend Missy, where did you get that idea?" Farkle continued, making his way over to me. "Maya may have her flaws, but she's one of my best friends. You are just the girl who follows Lucas around every minute of the day-that makes you a stalker, not our friend." I smiled at him gratefully, I was still a bit upset that he believed Missy over me, but at that moment, I just wanted to be grateful.
Missy rolled her eyes. "Well I don't care Farkle, I only tried to be your friend because I was trying to get Lucas," Missy quickly covered her mouth with her hand, realising what she had just said.
"Wow Missy, you just dug yourself an even deeper hole," I said with an amused grin.
"Mam we have to go now. You can continue this school yard drama another time okay?" The man asked Missy with a serious tone of voice. Missy sighed and nodded her head. He started to walk toward the exit of the school, with Missy in tow. Lucas walked over to Farkle and I, and we stood together in silence.
"So how did she get caught?" Lucas broke the silence nonchalantly. I was still angry at him for not believing me. I wasn't very angry with Farkle, but for some reason with Lucas it was different; I still felt extremely betrayed that he didn't have faith in me. I turned around to face him slightly, planning to guilt him into admitting that he was wrong. That he had taken Missy's side over mine, and he would never forget it. As soon as his eyes met my eyes though, the words couldn't exit my mouth. He was looking straight at me with a look so penetrating that I was forced to catch my breath.
'He knows,' was all that I could think to myself as his eyes held mine, 'he believed me along. He already knew how she got caught…he must have helped out!'
"I think they watched the security footage," I responded.
"Really?" Lucas questioned, not sounding surprised at all.
"Yeah," I crossed my arms over my chest, eyeing Lucas suspiciously.
"I'm sorry Maya-for not believing you," Farkle apologised sorrowfully, which caused me to break eye contact with Lucas and look at Farkle.
"It's alright Farky. I know what she's like. She probably manipulated you into thinking a certain way," I responded, thankful for the apology.
It was three o clock; Lucas was about to exit the school, but I wanted to ask him if he had anything to do with Missy being caught. I ran after him.
"Ranger Rick, wait!" I shouted, "can we talk?" I asked him with a soft tone to my voice.
He turned around, and nodded his head. "Sure, what's up?"
"Did you have anything to do with Missy being caught?" I asked suspiciously.
Lucas furrowed his eyebrows as if it was the most ridiculous thing he had ever heard. "Pffft Nope, what gave you that idea?"
"Hmm I don't know…I just had an inkling," I said, suspicious of his nervous attitude.
"Oh okay…" Lucas trailed off, unsure of how to continue the sentence.
I looked at him knowingly. "Luke I know you did something to help. You don't have to admit to it, but I just want to say thank you," I smirked at him, and gave him a friendly hug. Though it didn't feel as platonic as I wanted it to be.
Lucas pulled away, and smiled at me widely. "Well I'm sorry for not believing you at first, I should have, you're a good person-underneath your tough exterior," he said with a soft chuckle. "Is there anything I can do to make it up to you?"
"Yes actually. Tomorrow we should go to the mall, and you should buy me a pretzel-considering I didn't get one when we went last time," I said while tilting my head.
Lucas nodded his head in unison and smiled slightly. "Okay, cool, it's a date."
