Author's notes: Hey so this is set like two weeks later, and Riley's back. I'm also thinking about doing the next chapter in Riley's POV, featuring Cory, Topanga and Auggie. What are your guys opinions?
Lucas POV
I walked into Svorski's Bakery, as I had agreed to meet Riley there. I then saw Maya sitting on one of the tables, and I approached her casually.
"Hey Maya, what are you doing here?" I questioned pleasantly.
Maya turned around and rolled her eyes cheekily. "Ugh," Maya muttered in disgust, and then raised her voice slightly, "way to ruin my day Friar."
I narrowed my eyes at her disapproving tone. "Charming as ever Maya," I responded teasingly.
Maya smiled a little. "Yep that's me."
I took my shoulder bag off my shoulder, and sat down next to Maya. I noticed that she was drawing something in her new sketch book. "What are you working on?" I asked while looking over at the sketch book.
Maya quickly closed her sketch book and turned to face me. "Nothing, just doodles really," she muttered. I could tell that she wasn't comfortable with me seeing her drawings. I understood that; I also had things about myself that I liked to keep private.
I nodded my head, "well I'm sure they're good." I said while paying her a smile. Maya smiled back, but then looked away quickly.
A little while later, I was still sitting by Maya. Maya was on her phone, and I was doing some history homework. "Luke, go get me a Danish," Maya stated bossily.
I looked up at her, and rolled my eyes at her bossiness. "How about a please?" I asked with an annoyed tone.
Maya smiled widely, as if she was a little girl begging for something from her parents. "Pleaseeeeee."
I couldn't help but laugh. "No go get it yourself!" I scoffed.
Maya feigned a look of agony. "Oh but it's just so far!" She said, almost pouting like a small child.
I faked an overly nice smile. "Well you don't have to go get it yourself if you don't want to." Maya looked at me expectantly. "It just means that you won't be getting a Danish," I teased with a smirk.
Maya formed a slight smile across her face, but feigned annoyance. "Oh you are so annoying!" She said while slapping my shoulder playfully. We laughed, and slowly the laughter died out.
"Could you tutor me?" Maya asked, breaking the slightly awkward silence.
I looked at her with a puzzled expression. "Why do you need tutoring?" I asked.
"Because I'm stupid-that's why." She responded grouchily. I didn't agree with what she was saying. Maya wasn't dumb at all, she was actually really intelligent; she just lacked faith in herself, and I felt for her.
I looked at her with a caring look displayed across my face, "Maya you know that's not true. You're really smart, you just gotta believe in yourself."
"Okay thanks Doctor Phil," Maya responded sarcastically with a slight chuckle. I knew that deep down she didn't find the situation funny; I had noticed that sometimes she used humour to mask how she truly felt about something.
"I'm serious, you are smart. Sure I'll tutor you, but I didn't think you'd want me to tutor you. What about Riley, or Farkle, or Mr Matthews?" I asked intently.
"Because last week when you helped me with my maths, I understood everything that you were telling me. And you made it fun too." I smiled back, thankful for the compliment.
"Sure I'll tutor you, what about Saturday or Sunday?" I questioned.
"I can't do Sunday. Is Saturday okay?" She quizzed.
I nodded my head. "Yep Saturday is good with me," I said with a smile.
Suddenly I got an idea, "ooh and we can shoot some hoops-after studying of course."
Maya beamed. "Sounds good. I got to go home now. My mum is inviting her latest boyfriend over for afternoon tea and told me I have to be there to meet him."
I furrowed my eyebrows. "Since when do you do what your mum says?" I asked with a curious and joking manner.
Maya sighed and nodded her head. "She threatened to take away my cell phone privileges at home," she said, slightly moaning in frustration.
I nodded my head, and chuckled lightly. "Oh I understand now."
"Stop laughing. It's a serious matter, Friar." Maya said sending me an icy glare.
I put my hands in front of me as a type of defence. "I know, I know." She nodded at me, packed her items up and left the bakery. I smiled to myself; Maya and I were becoming really close friends. Even though we were already good friends, I was starting to get to know her more. I was starting to understand who she was, and even though sometimes she annoyed me, I accepted her flaws, because she was my best friend, alongside Farkle of course.
Just a few minutes after Maya left, Riley walked into the bakery with a huff.
"Hard day?" I asked as she approached me.
"Yeah, those AP classes are so hard," Riley responded with a deep sigh.
She sat down next to me and I slipped my arm around her. She put her head on my shoulder and I leaned down and kissed her tenderly.
"I missed you," she stated quietly.
I merely smiled in return. "I missed you too."
Riley and I started dating almost two months ago. The first few weeks were amazing, but lately she had gotten quite clingy. I had thought it wouldn't be too bad, but her clinginess sometimes annoyed me.
Riley turned to face me with a massive smile displayed across her face. "So, I planned the whole weekend for us. We're going to go see that new movie with Reese Witherspoon, and then we're going to the mall because I need some new clothes, and then we're going to have a nice lunch at that new Italian restaurant on Bleeker Street. Then, on Sunday we're going to have a movie marathon at my house, and make it all romantic."
I sighed irritatingly. So much for tutoring Maya and going to Farkle's house.
"But what about Farkle and Maya?" I inquired.
"Huh?" Riley asked obliviously.
"Will Maya and Farkle be coming with us on the Saturday?" I asked.
"Uh no, why?" She asked in what I thought was a very domineering tone.
"Well, uh, I kind of made plans with both of them. And I don't want to leave them out, and make them feel bad," I stated. Riley was still good friends with Farkle and Maya, but she had started to hang out with them less ever since we started dating.
"They can hang out with each other, they don't have to hang out with us." Riley snapped; I wasn't too fond with how Riley was acting. She wasn't acting like the Riley that I knew and liked, she was being bossy, clingy, selfish and envious.
"Riley, I don't want to be in the middle of your guy's friendship," I stated worriedly.
"What do you mean? You're not in the way," she said while shaking her head with a puzzled expression.
"I don't mind if you hang out with Farkle and Maya sometimes. They're your best friends you know? You've known them since you were really young, and I don't want your friendship to change just because we're dating now," I explained, hoping that she'd have an epiphany and realise how she'd been acting.
Riley furrowed her eyebrows and shook her head stubbornly. "Pfft I hang out with them all the time, nothing has changed." She stated firmly.
"When was the last time you've had one on one time with Maya and Farkle?" I questioned, knowing that it had been a while.
Riley sighed with annoyance. "Okay, I guess I haven't hung out with them as much as I used to. But I don't see what the problem is. Isn't that what happens when people get boyfriends and girlfriends?"
I shrugged my shoulders. "Yeah I suppose, but Ryles that doesn't mean that as soon as you get a boyfriend you should cut your friends off," I responded slightly frustrated at her stubbornness.
Riley looked at me with a hurt expression. "Well, uh, I think I'm going to go home," she said while her voice trembled nervously.
"Why? You only just got here?" I asked with a puzzled look.
"Uh, I have a lot of homework," she stated anxiously.
I looked at her suspiciously, not believing her excuse. "Okay…." I mumbled doubtfully.
"See you later," she said while getting up from the table.
"Bye," I faked a smile, and Riley left the bakery. I didn't mean to hurt her, but I felt relieved; she needed to know the truth. I didn't want to keep on agreeing with whatever she said. I knew it wasn't healthy for our relationship; I needed to stick up for myself once and awhile. I just hoped that she'd come around and realise what she was doing wrong, because otherwise I didn't know if our relationship would work.
