Riley POV
'Finally, summer vacation,' I thought to myself as I changed into my usual bathing suit. I wished that I could wear a bikini, but my parents told me that I wasn't allowed to wear a bikini until I turned sixteen. I thought it was very unfair, but I had grown used to rules like that. School had ended a few days before and I knew it was going to be a great summer. Farkle's dad had put in a pool earlier that year and it meant that we no longer had to go to the overcrowded public beach or pool to swim.
I was combing my long brown hair into a ponytail when Maya burst into my room and flopped down on my bed.
"Hey," she mumbled nonchalantly. I turned around to face her, and saw that she was wearing a bikini.
"I thought you, like myself, weren't allowed to wear a bikini yet?" I questioned.
"Well, my mum decided it was okay this year, since I'm fourteen," Maya explained.
I sighed a little and answered. "You are so lucky!"
Maya smiled a little. "Oh come on chump, we're going to Farkle's house. Your Mum or Dad won't be there, just pack a spare bikini and change when you're there, anyway I would have worn this if my mum told me not to wear it."
In the past couple of days, I had come to terms with the fact that I was probably never going to be rebellious and cool like Maya. So I decided to embrace my dorkiness and be myself.
"No it's okay. I'll just wait until I'm sixteen," I said with a slight smile.
Maya chuckled a little. "Good idea," she paused for a moment. "So it's just you and me going to Farkle's house right?"
I shook my head. "And Lucas is coming as well."
"Oh right," Maya stated with a disappointed manner. I wasn't sure what Maya's problem was; I knew they occasionally fought, but deep down they did care about each other, and recently they had become closer friends. So I wasn't sure what her problem was with spending a little bit of time with him.
I looked at her sceptically. "Okay, what's up? Can you at least pretend to like him? Besides he's always so nice about you, and he really values your friendship."
Maya smiled slightly, but quickly turned her smile into a frown. "Okay I'll try," she said with a sigh. I had to let that one go. I knew if I kept hounding her with questions she wouldn't want to come to the pool with us.
Around forty minutes later, Lucas, Maya and I arrived to Farkle's mansion. I was holding Lucas's hand, and he stared at the mansion in awe.
"Wow I can't believe it," Lucas murmured in disbelief while staring at the overwhelming mansion.
I turned to face him, and smiled slightly. "I know right, it's like the houses you see on MTV cribs!" We started to walk toward the pool. "I'm so excited that we're not at the crowded pool-" I was cut off when I looked up and saw Ryan watering some of the weeds in the garden. "Uh am I losing my mind, or is that Ryan?" I said while letting go of Lucas's grasp and pointing to him.
Maya shook her head with a very anxious manner. "Nope you're not, that's him."
I shook my head and scoffed. "No, there is no way we are leaving cause of him. He's probably working for Farkle's dad so he'll be forced to be nice to us."
"Riley I appreciate that, but uh, Ryan thinks that myself and Lucas are a couple. Remember our fake date?" Maya and Lucas exchanged some awkward glances, before looking away from each other. For some reason whenever the subject of the fake date would come up, they'd go really awkward.
Farkle came out to meet us, wearing a very bright pair of green shorts. "Hey guys!"
"Hey," Maya said, her teeth clenched.
Farkle furrowed his eyebrows with a confused expression. "What's wrong with you, sweet cheeks?"
"Can you please explain to us why Ryan is here?" She questioned, the acid in her voice coming to show.
Farkle nodded his head in realisation. "Oh Ryan! Yeah, he's been working for my dad for a couple of weeks now," he said with a slight smile.
Lucas held Maya as she went to pounce on Farkle. "Maya, stop! Remember he was in Spain when you guys were dating, so he probably doesn't know about your history with him."
Farkle tilted his head to one side. "You and Ryan dated?"
Lucas nodded his head. "Yeah, she's a bit on edge because he's here."
Maya rolled her eyes. "Okay, I got it, can you let me go now?" She asked with an impatient manner. Lucas let her go, and she turned to face Farkle.
"So he's working here now, like constantly?" Mona questioned worriedly.
Farkle nodded his head. "Pretty much yeah, he gets days off on the weekend though."
"Maya, don't worry he probably won't even notice you," Lucas commented. I cringed a little, 'bad choice of words,' I thought to myself.
Maya turned to face Lucas with a grumpy expression displayed across her face. "Oh well thanks so much Lucas, thanks SO much for saying that he won't notice me! That's like calling me ugly!" She screeched.
Lucas sighed. "Maya, you're not ugly, calm down. I didn't mean it like that. I just mean that he will be so busy with his job and he won't be able to tease us or anything."
"You better be right Ranger Rick, or else," Maya said giving him her infamous death glare.
Lucas chuckled. "Or else what?" He questioned with a smirk.
"Uh whatever, you're not worth it," Maya muttered with a huff.
We walked to the pool, and tried to sneak past Ryan so he wouldn't notice us.
"Maya?" Ryan questioned.
Maya hastily turned around. "Oh hey Ryan, I didn't see you there," she stated with an abnormally high pitched voice.
"I'm sure you didn't," he stated sceptically. He glanced over at Lucas, and Lucas flinched nervously. "Hey, now you're Maya's boyfriend aren't you?" Lucas was about to speak, but Maya quickly interrupted him.
"Actually we broke up a few weeks ago. He's dating Riley now," Maya said.
Ryan gave her a fake look of pity. "Oh that's just too bad." He smiled a little, "perhaps it's good because I really didn't want to see you guys kiss ag-" Maya then randomly cut him off from speaking.
"Okay! Lets go!" She shouted loudly, and pulled Farkle and I along with her.
We entered the pool area, and I sat down on one of the pool chairs while Lucas, Maya and Farkle jumped into the pool. Initially I was in the mood to have fun with my friends and go for a swim, but I had gained this horrible feeling in my stomach; I couldn't stop thinking about what Ryan had said before. He said something about a kiss, but Maya cut him off-almost like her and Lucas had something to hide. But I trusted them, they wouldn't lie to me, right? 'No, no, I trust them,' I thought to myself. I deemed myself a fool for even thinking they'd kiss, for starters they argued all the time, and Maya knew how much I liked him, she would never purposefully kiss him.
Even though I didn't want it to be true, I thought back to the night of the fake date. I remembered that Maya was acting really strange, and I thought it had something to do with Lucas, but a couple of days later they came up with some excuse, so I stopped thinking about it. And then the day after the fake date I went on a date with Lucas, and whenever I'd mention Maya he'd go awkward...not to mention he got cold feet and told me he didn't want to be with me. I turned to face Ryan who was watering some more plants. Deep down I wanted to ask him about the kiss, but I wanted to trust my friends.
"Woo, hoo, the water is amazing!" Maya shouted out and splashed Lucas and Farkle.
Lucas flicked his hair, and looked up at me. "Ryles you coming in?" He asked with his charming smile.
"Uh, yeah, soon. I'm just going to go to the bathroom," I stated, and got up from the beach chair. I walked over to Ryan and tapped him on the shoulder.
He turned around, while wiping his hands on his t shirt. "Yeah?" He questioned impatiently.
"Hey, uh, what kiss were you talking about before?" I inquired curiously.
"The kiss between Maya and Lucas." He stated it like it was the most obvious thing that could happen.
I faked a huge smile. "Thanks," I stated with a shaky voice.
Ryan rolled his eyes. "Whatever kid," he turned back around to do his work, and I quickly walked towards the restroom.
I reached the restroom and quickly slammed the door shut, trying to drown out the thoughts running rapidly through my head. I put my back to the door and slid gently down until I hit the cold, marble floor. Then it happened, the thing I was trying so hard not to do, I cried. I had wanted to be so strong in the situation but I couldn't help but let all of the anger and frustrations go, I hated that I was such a weak person. I let out small sobs as the sadness and the overwhelming feelings over took me. I sat there for what I had guessed to be ten minutes before I pulled myself together long enough to stand up and take a look in the mirror.
I rolled my eyes at the girl that greeted me on the other side of the marble mirror. "Oh gosh Riley, you look like a crazy person."
"Uh, Riley are you okay in there?" Farkle questioned as he knocked on the bathroom door.
I turned my attention to the door. "Yeah I'm fine...I'm just feeling a little light headed so, I'm just trying to chill out for a while." I said, trying to convince myself and Farkle that I was okay.
"Well why don't you come out and you can lay down on the couch or something," Farkle suggested.
"Okay, just give me a second here and I'll be out." I knew that I had a limited time to pull my thoughts together.
"Okay, I'll wait here," Farkle stated.
"Oh okay, cool." I muttered.
I finally got the nerve to pull myself together, I stepped out of the bathroom to find Farkle, as promised, waiting on the other side of the door for me.
"Feeling better Ryles?" Farkle asked with a smile.
I shook my head sadly. "No, not really. Did you know that before Lucas and I started dating Maya and Lucas kissed?"
Farkle looked at me with a bemused expression. "You're kidding?! When did they tell you this?"
"Well they didn't, but Ryan did. He was there during their fake date," I stated with a disappointed manner.
"Come on he was probably lying. He's that type of guy-you should really ask Maya or Lucas first." I smiled back realising that he was right.
I nodded my head. "Yeah, I'll talk to them soon. Thanks for going such a good friend Farkle." I smiled as I headed back to the pool area, Farkle in tow.
"No problem, that's what friends do," Farkle said, slinging an arm over to my shoulder as we walked.
