Rack really seems to care about me.

It's like he worships me or something.

"Are you ok?"

"I'm great! Are you ok?"

"I'm fine."

"The police still hadn't found the thief who stole the museum's most prized diamond yet."

"Is there a picture of the diamond?"

It was a perfect match!

Let's not get angry with him.

I'll put the diamond back and quickly run back to the bounty without being noticed.

I'll have to watch out for her little friend.

If he so much as goes one foot near her, I'LL KILL HIM!

"Rack!"

"Why are you out so late?"

"Because I'm a boss like that!"

"A weirdo is what you are."

"Urrgh!"

"Where have you been?"

Kennedy's eyes flew open at the sound of Lloyd's calm but firm voice. She darted up from the bed. Lloyd had been lying on the bed behind her. It was dark in the room so Kennedy never noticed his presence.

"Lloyd!" She cried. "When did you get in here?"

"I asked you a question." He said as he got up from the bed and stepped towards her.

Kennedy shrank back becoming frightened. "L-Lloyd…I-I know you're mad, but…" she stared squeaking.

Lloyd interrupted her. "You're damn right, I'm mad!" He closed in on Kennedy, his eyes a blaze. "What the hell do you think you're doing, going off alone at night?! You could've been kidnapped! Again!"

"Um…actually," Kennedy squeaked. "I wasn't alone…"

Lloyd almost blew his top. "You were with that guy weren't you?" Kennedy wanted to scold him for thinking she was going out with him behind his back, but seeing his face kept her quiet.

Lloyd started to pace. "I knew it. I knew it!" he repeated over and over again. He then stopped and looked at Kennedy. His face held pure rage. "I knew that bastard was trouble! Kennedy, why are you trusting him?! You've only known him for a few months and he's still a complete stranger!"

"No, he isn't!" Kennedy said. "He gave me his diary!" Lloyd's expression hardened.

"What a creep!" Kennedy probably shouldn't have said that.

"But you've got it all wrong, Lloyd!" Kennedy reasoned. "I wasn't going out with him. He found me and took me back here!"

Lloyd's face loosened up a bit but he still held a very angry look. "Then why did you sneak out?"

Once again, Kennedy had to search for an excuse. This was nothing like the look Rack gave her earlier. Lloyd's expression was even scarier. He looked as if he were going to attack her any second. "I…I was…" she stuttered. Every second his face seemed to harden. "Well?"

At this point, Kennedy began to cry. She felt smaller than she had before. Her legs shook and then she fell onto her knees. Lloyd's eyes followed her. He still held an angry look on his face but after a moment he sighed.

"I'm sorry, Kennedy." Lloyd said as he dropped beside Kennedy and held her. "I'm sorry I got mad at you like that." Kennedy frightened and crying but she hugged him back. Lloyd felt so bad for making Kennedy cry. The last thing he wanted was to see her so frightened of him. "It's just every day I get so worried about you and I try to keep you within the boundaries of the bounty so you'd stay in my sight." Kennedy calmed down a little and listened to Lloyd's now soft voice. "I don't want to lose you, Kennedy. You're more trouble than you're worth, you know?" He continued to silently rant on.

"Lloyd." She said. Lloyd stopped talking and looked down at her.

"Yeah?"

"You're turning into Jay."

"Oh…sorry."

Kennedy rested her head on Lloyd's chest. Lloyd ought to wake up the whole city if she hadn't dropped down crying at the right time. She was surprised no one else in the bounty hadn't woken up and checked to see what the noise was about. Lloyd must've been really mad when he found out she sneaked out.

"You really blew up, Lloyd."

He smiled and rested his chin on her head. "I'm 13, Kennedy. You'd expect an explosion like that from a person that age."

"You think I'll explode when I turn 13?"

Lloyd looked at her. Kennedy's birthday was only a few weeks away. He shook his head. "No, you're too cute for that."

Kennedy smiled and fell asleep. Lloyd sighed. He felt like a monster. He hadn't realized he was scaring her until she fell down and cried. He almost wanted to cry himself. Lloyd got up and tucked Kennedy into bed. He sat in a nearby chair and watched her sleep.
