3 Days Later

Spencer found herself writing a prescription on a nurse desk in the ER. Since the day from her trip to Rosewood, Emily had driven her to the train station and Spencer got back to Harrisburg just a day before she came back to the hospital. Today, she supposed to meet her new resident but unfortunately, she got stuck in the ER until God Knows When.

Spencer put the scribbled paper to her patient charts and handed it to the nurse in front of her. "Chen, can you make sure that Mr. Green got his medication?"

The Asian nurse smiled and took the charts from Spencer. "Sure doctor. I'll take care of it."

"Thank you." Spencer smiled before she slowly walked away from the nurse desk. It's just only seconds later before she heard a horn and shouts from the outside, screaming for help. She quickly glanced up and running to the source of the sounds.

"Someone, please help!" A man with bloody T-shirt screamed while carrying a girl in his arms.

Spencer quickly noticed the blood that pouring from the girl's temple and large wound along with it. Spencer quickly screamed for a gurney and rushed to the man's side.

"Sir, stay the way you are! Let me check on her." Spencer said to the panic man. "What happened?"

"She was climbing a tree to put her cat down but she got slipped and her head hit a huge rock." He said quickly.

Spencer drew out her lamplight and shined it to both of the girl's eyes. "What is her name?"

"Jeanie." The man said, still panicking.

"Jeanie, I'm Dr. Hastings, can you blink for me?" Spencer talked to the little girl, but no response.

Once Spencer and the nurses transferred the girl to a gurney, they quickly shoved it back to the ER and bring her to a trauma room. The nurses hooked her up to some devices while Spencer checked her pulse and breathing sounds.

"She's in shock." A blonde ER nurse said.

Spencer glanced at the monitor that hooked up to the girl's body and gritted her teeth slightly. "Can you ask this girl medical history to her father? I'm going to inject some adrenaline shots and can you bring portable X-Ray here? I need to check the fracture on her temple." Spencer said quickly, partially shouted.

Two nurses quickly ran to the other room to do as Spencer said. Spencer injected 3 shots of adrenaline and waited for a second before the shots worked. Spencer face lit up a little and she could see that the girl slightly winced.

One of the two nurses that leave early came back to the room with a portable X-ray in hand. She quickly did the X-ray while Spencer checked any possible injuries on the girl's body. When the nurse was done, she quickly left the room to get the results while Spencer anxiously glanced at the monitor beside the girl, hoping that she didn't get to a shock stage anymore.

The nurse finally came back with the results and Spencer grabbed it quickly as fast as thunder and put it on the scanner.

"Minor fracture on her temple and there is a possibility that the impact causing trauma on her brain." Spencer observed. "Can you page Dr. Graham for me? Or someone else from Neuro?" She asked to the nurse who brought the result.

The nurse nodded and quickly got out from the room. Spencer walked back to check on the girl's wound which already bandaged. She re-checked the girl's pupils to saw that there is a minor responsive from her pupils.

A minute or so, a man dressed in dark blue scrubs and a lab coat quickly rushed to the trauma room and glanced at the younger doctor. "What do we have here?"

"Jeanie Cameron, 19, fell down from a tree and hit her head. X-Ray shows a minor fracture on her right temple and from the angle I could tell there is a trauma." Spencer stated while the other doctor quickly took over and checked the patient condition.

"What did you gave her?" The older doctor asked while she checked the girl.

"She was in shock so I gave her 3 shots of adrenaline and it worked."

"Well, whatever you did, it was making my job easier, thanks." He said without glancing at Spencer.

Spencer smirked slyly. "Thank you, sir."

The older doctor hung his stethoscope around his neck and began to move the head of the girl slowly and re-adjust her position.

"Alright, she did have a trauma but to be sure we need to take a CT, so make sure she got it and I want the result as soon as possible. Don't let her sleep at any chance and gave her adrenaline every time her BP dropping, got it?"

Spencer nodded. "Sure doctor."

"Okay, I'm going to talk to the parent. You are in charge of this patient Hastings." He stated quickly before exiting the room.

Spencer then walked besides the girl and stared at her face while mumbling. "You're going to be fine."

"Officer Fields, Detective want you to meet him now in the interrogation room." A young police man said to Emily.

Emily got up from her desk and smiled to him. "Thanks Josh". The young officer formed a small smile before he walked away from Emily.

Emily immediately got up from her desk and walked to the interrogation room. A lump formed on her throat as she knocked on the door and a soft voice mumbling her to come in.

"Are you looking for me detective?" Emily asked softly.

"Sit down." He ordered.

Emily quickly sat at one of the chairs, her hands trembling slightly as she spoke. "Why am I here?"

The detective opened the files in front of him and slid it to Emily. "Read."

Emily grabbed the file and scanned it carefully. Words by words passing until finally she spotted the big red mark at the end of the report. Her eyes widened suddenly, she looked up and meet her partner gaze. "What is this mean?"

"It means that we were wrong about this case. That files proof everything." He said, pointing to the files.

"You didn't bother to tell me until now?" Emily asked in disbelief.

"Sorry, I can't let anyone know about this until I'm sure and know I am."

Emily looked up between the file and her partner. "What do we do now?"

The detective rubbed his temple slightly. "We can't do anything until there is a clear statement that he is okay to be 'disturbed'." He said making an air quote.

"But how could he?" Emily said, still in disbelief.

"That's what I'm trying to figure out and then the big reveal coming. He is clearly upset that's why he killed Adam." He said calmly.

"He killed him for being a family? That's clearly not a logical reason to murder someone."

"I think about that too but I remember the missing puzzle that the coroner told me."

Emily frowned. "What did the coroner told you?"

"He said that's the victim and the killer share the same DNA but share a little of chromosome similarity and then I looked at the victim's family history and noticed that indeed Adam and his killer were related."

"We should catch him now." Emily said impatiently.

"Easy soldier, I told you that we can't do anything until there is a clear statement."

"He could have run away without getting caught." Emily argued.

The detective rubbed his chin and sighed. "That's never going to happen. Grab your coat, we are leaving shortly." He said while getting up from his seat.

"Where are we going?" Emily raised her eyebrow.

"Guard the wolf." He said before get out from the room.

Emily frowned, but she quickly got up from her seat and followed her partner outside.

"Spencer?"

Spencer turned around and spotted Jack approaching. "What's up?"

"Dr. Graham called you to his room." He said.

"Oh, thanks Jack." She flashed a small smile to her friend before she walked down the hall to the doctor's office.

Spencer lightly knocked on the doctor's office and at the same time, the man came out from his office.

"Finally, I was just about to call you myself." He said flatly. "Come on in."

"I'm sorry doctor. I was prescribing some meds."

The man crossed his arms over his chest. "That patient who you said has a trauma, a mild one. My resident just got fired and the only free doctor is you."

"What are you saying?" Spencer frowned.

"I scheduled the surgery on Friday which is 2 days from now. I want you to be my intern for a while and keep an eye on her until the surgery day. Do you understand me?"

Spencer's eyes widened slightly. "Y-yes sir."

His lips curled into a smirk. "Good, now I shall let you go."

"Thank you, sir." Spencer said softly before exiting the room.

Once she exited the doctor's office, she smiled widely as she walked down to the hallway to the nurse desk.

Jack who still writing down his report looked up and saw Spencer grinning like a 5 year-old kid on Christmas approaching him. "Wow, what's up with the super megawatt smile?" He asked, grinning as well.

Spencer excitedly drumming her palms on the desk before turning to Jack who was raising his eyebrow. "Guess who got an attending, today?"

Jack's eyes widened all of sudden as his jaw dropped in surprise. "No way!" He exclaimed.

"Well, yes way!" Spencer said getting more excited.

Jack shook his head while grinning. "Well, you are really lucky Hastings; I wish I could get Dr. Graham as well."

"Well, I think you would, but before that…." Spencer glanced at his report before winking. "Good luck with Dr. Brown, I'm sure you will be enjoying taking plastic after that."

Jack rolled his eyes. "If you are talking about breast implant, I would not so into that."

"Who was talking about breast implant? You pervert." Spencer laughed.

Jack rolled his eyes again. "I can't believe I'm a friend of yours."

Spencer chuckled. "You remind me a lot of my friend, Hanna back in high school."

"What does she look like? Is she pretty?" Jack asked, suddenly curios and excited as well.

"Well, she is pretty but she is taken. Sorry bud." Spencer patted Jack's shoulder.

Jack sighed. "Well, you are lucky to have a girl while I can barely go out without spitting my bile."

"Ew, Jack… That's so gross." Spencer closed her mouth, pretending to be disgusted.

"That's just a reference Hastings. Besides, I can't keep my mouth shut about working, so well, every date ended up with 'Am I your date or your patient' thing that coming up from my dates." Jack said.

Spencer frowned. "Are you serious?"

Jack shrugged and continued to write his report. Spencer frowned and suddenly an idea clicked on her mind. "Hey."

"Hmm?" Jack answered without looking up from his report.

"I think I know who you can babble about work with." Spencer smirked.

Jack looked up and meeting Spencer's gaze and narrowed his eyes. "Who?"

"My roommate, you know Erica, right?"

"Erica? The party girl?" Jack asked.

"Yup, well, she is not a party girl but she just like to hang out a lot, and she is very compassionate about her work, so I guess you can really get along." Spencer suggested.

"Well, I don't know Spence…" Jack hesitated.

"Don't worry, I can figure a way to get her to go out with you."

Jack considered for a moment before finally gave in. "Okay. But if this one is failed, I'm gonna so murder you." Jack said in serious tone.

Spencer smirked. "Like you would kill me."

"Whatever." Jack rolled his eyes.

Spencer chuckled before going back to write her report, but suddenly her pager went off and she quickly checked the number.

"Who page you?" Jack asked.

"ER. Gotta go, see you." Spencer winked and ran to the ER leaving Jack alone.

Spencer walked down the hall quickly to the ER as a new patient just came in. Spencer quickly approached the gurney and helped the paramedic push it before asking questions.

"What do we have here?" Spencer asked.

"Shania Perry, 25, fell down from her bike and broke her left leg." One of the paramedic said.

Once the gurney stopped in the trauma room, Spencer quickly examined her eyes. "What did you gave her?"

"Mild lorazepam, she asked us to do that and we already sure that the injury didn't cause any internal bleeding, just some swelling." The paramedic said as he hooked the woman to the machines.

Spencer nodded while she finished checking the woman's eyes. "Okay, you can go thanks."

The paramedic nodded before get out from the room. Spencer quickly opened the temporary cast on the leg before checking out her injury. She tilted her head slightly and inspected it closely.

She could feel the bone cracked into two different parts and caused a large swelling on it, and there is also a gash on the top of the skin just above the cracked bone. Spencer sighed, she couldn't do anything until the patient woke up.

"Chen?" Spencer called.

The nurse looked up. "Yes, Doctor?"

"Could you page someone from ortho? I have a patient that needs their attention here." Spencer said.

The nurse nodded and quickly dialed a number from her desk. A few minutes later, a woman doctor from ortho approached Spencer who was still writing some medical record.

"Hastings? What do you have here?" She asked as walked slowly to the patient.

"Shania Perry, 25, broken left leg. She is unconscious because she asked the paramedic to give her a lorazepam." Spencer explained.

"Hmm, let me see." The doctor said as she took a look on the patient left leg. "Well, this is one hell of damage. I said surgery if this going."

"Surgery? But we have to wait until she woke up first right?" Spencer asked."

"Yes, of course. Wait, are you still on ER duty?" The doctor asked.

"Yes until Friday, why do you ask?"

"Hmm, I was thinking that maybe you could join me in surgery if that's really happen. I just get rid of my resident today. So, I kinda need some help." She offered.

Spencer widened her eyes slightly. "Today, like now you mean?"

The doctor shrugged. "Yep, if she woke up, page me as soon as possible and then we discuss the surgery."

"Uh, Thank you, I'll keep you updated." Spencer said nervously although deep in her heart she was exclaiming with joy.

When the other doctor walked away, Spencer turns her attention back to her new patient who still hasn't wake up. She walked to her side and stared down at the beeping machine beside her. Spencer decided to text Emily while waiting.

Hey Gorgeous, what are up to? –Spence

Spencer waited for a response which comes less than one minute.

Hey! Off to Hospital with my partner, you? -Em

Spencer frowned, why would Emily go to the hospital?

Why are you going to hospital? Are you okay? I'm watching a patient that still unconscious right now. -Spence

Spencer waited impatiently for an answer as she tapped her fingers on the edge of the gurney. 5 seconds later, her phone buzzed.

Still about the case, talk to you later? –Em

Okay, be safe… Love you –Spence

Don't worry, I will ;), Love you too –Em

Spencer shoved her phone back to her pocket and sighed heavily. Emily being an hour away from her making it so hard not to miss her every second whenever she wasn't nearby and the fact that she is a police officer doesn't helping at all. The fact that Emily already got a few accidents at work never put Spencer's worry for her aside.

Her thoughts was interrupted when the machine beside her went off and that's when she realized that the woman start to waking up. Her eyes flicker open and she let out a soft mumbled, Spencer carefully drew her lamplight out and flashing it to her eyes.

"Ms. Perry? Can you hear me?" Spencer asked.

"Hmm, yeah." She nodded weakly.

"Did you remember what happen to you?" Spencer asked again as she finished checking the woman's eyes.

"Uh, I was on an accident and I broke my leg." She said weakly.

"Okay, good. You did remember. Well, since you are already aware of what is happening, I want to tell you that there are damages on your leg that we can fix on surgery…."

"Just do it. I just don't want to see my bones cracked into 2 parts." The woman said quickly.

"Okay, I'll tell the doctor and we can get you up to the OR." Spencer smiled to the woman before pressing a number to her pager.

5 minutes later, the same doctor from earlier entering the trauma room and approached Spencer and the woman.

"Hello, Ms. Perry, I'm Dr. Jinn, how are you feeling?"

"I'm doing okay, I guess. Dr. Hastings took a good care of me." The woman smiled weakly.

"Great then, I heard that you agree to do the surgery. We can do it right now if you want, but we need to assign you first to the hospital room, is that okay?"

"Yeah, sure." She said weakly.

"Okay then. Hastings, would you please admit this patient? Page me when the OR ready." The doctor said, turning her attention to Spencer.

"Sure." Spencer smiled brightly.

Dr. Jinn smiled for the last time before exiting the room. Spencer then grabbed a new medical record and began scribbling into it. "So, do you have a kin that we could call?"

"Yeah, there is a phone number on my wallet. That's my nephew, Nicky."

Spencer wrote down the information before asking a question again. "Do you have any allergies?"

"Nope."

Spencer wrote down the statement again before closing the medical record. "Okay then, I'll get you admitted and we can have that surgery. If you start to feel unwell, you can press that button over here." Spencer said while patting the edge of the gurney.

"Thank you." The woman smiled weakly.

"You are welcome. Get some rest." Spencer said before exiting the room.

4 Hours later, Spencer found herself in the OR, operating with Dr. Jinn on the patient earlier.

"Great Hastings, don't put too much pressure or the damage can be done much worst." Dr. Jinn instructed while she watched Spencer removing the blood from around the cracked bone.

"I got it." Spencer said while she finished suck the blood out.

"Okay, now move over. You can help me by seeing the CT about the damage on the muscles."

Spencer walked over to the scan that hung up on the wall and looked at it carefully. "There isn't much damage aside from the torn muscles just below the bone."

"Ahh, I see it." The Doctor exclaimed while she find the torn muscles. "Okay, it's should be pretty easy. Hastings, why don't you come over here and pull the bone slightly? I'm going to fix the muscles." The doctor ordered.

"Oh, yes doctor." Spencer quickly took a clamp and pulled the bones up carefully.

"2-0 suture please." Dr. Jinn said to the nurse.

The nurse handed the tools that the doctor asked for as she continued to doing whatever she felt is necessary to fix the damage on her patient's leg.

5 minutes later, the doctor finally done fixing the muscles and slowly took out the suture from the leg.

"Okay, I'm done stitching the muscles and it should be okay. Now, let's fix the damn bone." She said excitedly.

Spencer chuckled while lowering the bone slowly. "Okay, do we just use plates or using bone graft?"

"Why don't you tell me what to do?" Dr. Jinn raised her eyebrows challengingly.

Spencer tilted her head. "We are going to use the plates."

"Correct. Okay then, let's get started. Would you help me pin them up?"

"Sure. I'll go get the plates." Spencer said as she walked to a drawer on the corner of the OR.

When Spencer walked back to the operating table, she heard her phone buzzing on the table near the nurses. One of the nurses grabbed it and looked at the caller ID.

"Dr. Hastings, a number with 215 code area is calling you. Should I pick it up?" The nurse asked.

"Just let it ring. I'll take care of it, later." Spencer said as she put the plates near the table.

The nurse nodded and put Spencer's phone back down. Dr. Jinn and Spencer then continue on working at the leg.

"Okay, here we go." Dr. Jinn said as she nudged Spencer.

Spencer nodded slowly as she began to follow the instruction from her attending. However, throughout the surgery her phone never stopped buzzing which sometimes distract her. Dr. Jinn quickly noticed the distraction on Spencer's face.

"It must be some admirer. I counted it like whoever who is trying to reach you must have called until the tenth times." Dr. Jinn said.

"I don't know, but this is much important." Spencer shrugged.

"Well, I think I can handle this, I just need to put one more plate and then we will be done." Dr. Jinn said.

Spencer was about to argue when her phone buzzing again.

"Pick it up, please." Dr. Jinn said before Spencer.

The nurse quickly picked it up and spoke through it. "Hello?"

The nurse frowned, although Spencer still busy in the surgery and couldn't see it. "No, she is still operating, what can I help you?"

After listening to the other person on line for about 30 seconds, the nurse's eyes were going wide. "Okay, I let her know. Thanks." She hung up the phone. Her hands trembling as she put down the phone.

"Who was calling?" Spencer asked as she screws the plates to the appropriate place.

"You better finish your surgery first." The nurse said nervously.

Spencer frowned. "You can tell me now."

The nurse rubbed her head slowly as she nervously spoke. "It's uh…It's your girlfriend…" She stuttered.

Spencer stopped her movement as she eyeing the nurse suspiciously. "What about my girlfriend? Is that her?"

Dr. Jinn stopped her movement too as she glanced at the nurse. The nurse gulped before she answered. "No, it's from Philly PD. They're trying to reach you, because… " She said nervously.

"Because what?" Spencer asked, her tone demanded.

The nurse sighed. "Your girlfriend had been shot on her abdomen…"
