As I Lay Dying

Salvatore house

Thalia woke up the next morning. Her head hurt and her arm was still sore. She reached into her bedside table and pulled one of the drawers open. She took out a container and opened it. Inside there was small golden, crumbly cubes. She took one out and placed it in her mouth. As she swallowed it she felt her pain drift away along with the sweet taste of caramel.

She got herself off the bed and to the bathroom, where she proceeded to wash her face and teeth. She came out with her hair brushed down not yet styled. She walked over to the wardrobe Stefan had placed in her room. She got out a grey Jack Daniels top and some dark blue jeans. She sat on her bed as she laced up her converse.

She looked to the bedside table again and saw her camp necklace. The star from Klaus' gift still hanged in the middle. Thalia's hand crept toward it and carefully picked it up. She debated on whether or not to wear it or take the star out. She quickly put on after her mental debate thinking no one knows who gave it to me, so it won't matter.

She walked down the stairs to see Damon standing in front of the window with the curtains wide open. Thalia watches him take his sunlight ring off dropping it on the floor.

His skin starts to burn and smoke can be seen coming from his body. Thalia knew she wouldn't be able to move him herself and so giving a quick shout of Stefan's name; he came rushing past her with inhuman speed, pushing his brother away from the sun.
"Get off of me." Damon grumbled from within Stefan's grip.

"You're not doing this." Stefan told him, moving him further away from the light. Thalia followed them.

"Just did. You know what happened to Rose, Stefan."

"I don't care. You're not dying today." Stefan used his vampire speed again and threw his brother into the cellar. Thalia was standing next to him when he closed the door.

"What's the plan, Superman?" Damon asked from inside his cell.

"I'm gonna find a way out of this."

"Oh, right. A miracle cure. Good luck with that one."

"I got Bonnie looking for something, anything."

"Always the hero, Stefan. Just tell me good-bye, get it over with." Damon started coughing up blood.

"Lie still. Conserve your strength."

Stefan then left while Thalia looked at Damon a little longer.

"Just try to put a little faith in your brother." She told him. His head turned towards her slightly he didn't say anything only stared at her, soon enough she left following after Stefan.

They were in Stefan's car when he called Alaric.

Alaric answered his phone and Stefan went straight for what he needed.

"I need your help."

"Damon's dying."

"Tyler Lockwood bit him. We don't have much time."

"I need you to invite me into your place."

When their conversation was over Stefan drove over to the old abandoned house, where they would meet Bonnie.

They were inside the house and candles were all around them.

"I'm not sure this is going to work." Bonnie confessed.

"You've done a séance before, right? Contacted Emily Bennett. Maybe one of the witches might know how to help Damon."

"Let's just hope they want to."

She started her spell and they could hear whispering around them, Thalia couldn't make out any words because they were all whispering at the same time and so decided to just pay attention to Bonnie.

"Bonnie? Bonnie?" Stefan asked, inching closer to her.

She opened her eyes. "Emily." Emily starts to speak to them using Bonnie's body.

"Why have you come here, Stefan?" She asked. "And who is she?" she questioned looking at Thalia.

"She's a friend." He answered quickly. "I need your help. I need to know if there's a spell that can heal a werewolf bite."

"No. Nature ensures a balance to everything."

"Is that true... or are you just saying no because it's Damon?"

"Perhaps it is his time to die."

"That's not balance." Thalia said all of a sudden. "That's punishment." Emily looked coldly at Thalia through Bonnie's eyes. She turned her attention back to Stefan after a moment.

"I will not give you what you want.

"So you're saying that there's an answer to give? Please, if you know something, just tell me. Help me save my brother." Stefan begged.

All of a sudden, Bonnie fell to the ground, screaming in pain.

"Bonnie." Stefan rushed forward.

"They don't want us here. They think I'm abusing their power."

"They know something. There's an answer. They just don't want to tell me."

"I heard them say a name."

"What was it?"

"Klaus."

Then and there, Thalia felt her heart stop. She knew it. She knew she would have to see him again. Oh why didn't I tell Annabeth what was happening, then I could have gotten some advice. Thalia thought.

She was in Stefan's car again while he went to talk to Elena. He was going to tell her about going to see Klaus, something Thalia was not really happy about, but she tried to keep a straight face through it.

She told Stefan how she knew Klaus when she was young the day before and now he had asked her to come with him, in hopes that maybe Klaus would be somewhat kinder than his usual self. It was a long shot but if it meant she had the chance to keep her friend safe and save Damon she took it.

He rejoined her in the car after his conversation and off they went. When they arrived at Alaric's apartment complex Thalia started removing her seatbelt when Stefan stopped her.

"Don't worry, I'll be quick, I just need to ask Katherine if she knows where he is." At her look he carried on. "I'll be back in a jiffy."

"I'll give you ten minutes; if you're not back by then, I'm coming after you."

With that and a smile towards her he was of. Thalia sat there a little disgruntled with being left behind. Little did she know that Klaus would arrive at the apartment only minutes after Stefan to find him there.

She waited the ten minutes, once they were finished she got out of the car making her way to the apartment.

Klaus had just arrived back at the apartment when he found Stefan there, just waiting for him.

"Klaus, you're back. Look who decided to come for a visit." Katherine said as she moved out from behind the wall and brought Stefan out with her.

Klaus looked at him. "You just keep popping up, don't you?"

"I need your help... For my brother."

"Well, whatever it is, it's gonna have to wait a tick. You see, I have an obligation to my brother that requires my immediate attention."

This time it was Elijah's turn to look at Stefan. "You understand how important family is, or you wouldn't be here. My brother gave me his word that he would reunite me with my own."

"And so I shall." Klaus moved in front of his brother, stabbing him through the heart, watching the veins in his face start to pop out and turn grey, his skin becoming paler and letting him fall to the ground.

He then using his vampire speed, pushed Stefan into the wall. "Now, what am I gonna do with you?" quickly shoving a stake through his chest, right next to his heart. "Do you feel that? It's scraping against your heart. The slightest little movement and you're dead."

"He's just trying to help his brother." Katherine said from her post.

"The witches said you had a cure. Make me a deal. Just give me the cure, and I'll do whatever you want." Stefan managed to say through the pain.

Klaus removed the stake from Stefan's chest, moving away from him. Stefan fell to the floor as he felt his wound heal up, trying to catch his breath, as Klaus poured himself a glass of blood.

"Trouble is I don't know if you'd be any good to me the way you are now. You are just shy of useless." As he finished his sentence he heard the door to the apartment creak open and saw someone walk in.

Thalia walked in to the apartment to see Elijah on the floor, a dagger in his heart. She pulled her eyes off of him and looked up to see Stefan too on the floor but at least he was alive.

Her heart started beating faster as she looked up at Klaus who also just looked at her. She knew her heart hadn't started beating faster because of fear but because of how she despised this moment.

Klaus was the one to break the silence this time. "Thalia, welcome." He said with a smile on his face, his arms moving outwards as if to invite her to walk further into the apartment.

Thalia stood there for a second just staring at him as her heart beat slowed down before she rushed over to Stefan's side to make sure he was ok.

Klaus still held his glass of blood as he watched her, the smile now gone from his face. He then carried on with his conversation as Thalia never came in.

"I heard about this one vampire, crazy bloke, always on and off the wagon for decades. When he was off, he was magnificent. 1917, he went into Monterrey and wiped out an entire migrant village... A true ripper. Sound familiar?"

"He hasn't been that way in a very long time." Thalia said now standing up, staring at Klaus straight in the eye.

"I wasn't speaking to you love." Thalia was taken aback by his tone. He had never spoken to her in such a cold way, but she didn't let be shown in her face.

Stefan now stood up next to her and looked at Klaus too.

"Well, that's the vampire I can make a deal with. That is the kind of talent that I can use when I leave this town." Klaus continued.

"Katerina, come here." Katherine moves closer to him and places her hand in his outstretched one. His eyes start to change colour as he moves her arm towards his face and bites her.

"Aah! Aah! No. No... No. No. No." Katherine starts to panic as she feels the bite of the werewolf.

Klaus then bites his own wrist. Thalia wrinkled her nose as the smell of the blood reached her nostrils.

Klaus then moves his bloody wrist to Katherine's mouth and makes her drink his blood. They watch Katherine's wound as it starts to heal.

Klaus looks at Stefan once again. "You want your cure? There it is."

"Your blood is the cure." Stefan muttered.

"Gotta love Mother Nature." Klaus then placed his hand on Stefan's shoulder. "Now... Let's talk, you and I." He then turned his attention to Thalia. "Oh and Thalia?" She turned toward him, her electric blue eyes staring right into his light blue eyes. "I'm not done with you yet either." He then gave her a smirk that made her want to punch him in the face, but she held herself back, no wanting to put her friend's life at more risk.

Klaus was holding a small vial over the sink, pouring his blood inside it from a knew cut on his arm.

"There it is. You want to save your brother? How 'bout a decade-long bender? And I have big plans for you when we leave this town."

"I'm not like that anymore."

"Well, that's too bad. You would have made a hell of a wingman." Klaus starts to pour some of his blood down the drain.

"Wait."

"Now that's more like it. I want you to join me for a drink." He threw Stefan a blood bag.

Stefan only took a sip.

"Finish it. All of it. You do everything I say, and I save your brother. That's the deal."

Stefan drinks the whole bag. At the end Klaus throws him another one.

"Again." Klaus said, his smirk never falling from his, however when he looked at Thalia it fell slightly. She wasn't watching Stefan she was watching Klaus, a look of disgust on her face. He never wanted her to look at him in such a way but he just diverted his gaze back to Stefan, watching him drink his second blood bag.

There a tons of blood bags on the floor. Thalia had moved to a different place in the living room, opting to sit in a corner where she couldn't see the blood bags and the smell wasn't too bad.

"You're very cooperative. It's almost as if you're enjoying it." Klaus says as Stefan finishes another, giving him another bag.

"No more. Not until you give me the cure."

"Not until we make a deal. It's your choice, Stefan. You can either remain here living your life in Mystic Falls, or you can embrace what you truly are, leave town with me, and save your brother's life."

Stefan looks at him for a while. Before adding another part, "Let Thalia go!" At the sound of her name, said girl moved around to look at both men.

"No." Klaus started. "I have plans for her too. Now do we have a deal or not?"

Stefan took a quick glance at Thalia. His eyes said sorry as she merely shrugged and looked at the wall once again. Stefan took the blood bag being handed to him and drank it.

"That's the spirit." He takes the vial and turns to Katherine. "Sweetheart..." Klaus compels her "Take this over to Damon and come right back."

"You want me to leave?" Katherine asked, the tinge of hope could be heard in her voice.

"No!" Stefan shouted from behind Klaus.

"Yes and if I were you..."

She took the vial and disappeared using her vampire speed.

"I'd hurry." Klaus finished. He then moved to a chair and sat in it.

"She'll never take it to him. She'll never take it to him." Stefan mumbled, over and over again.

Klaus stopped watching Stefan and looked to where Thalia sat. She sat so still he might have thought she fell asleep.

He looked at Stefan again. "Stefan." He looked up at him. "Go wash yourself." Stefan stared at him a while longer before standing and moving to the bathroom to wash himself.

Klaus looked back at Thalia. He stood up and walked over to her and stood in front of her, blocking her view from the wall she was just staring at. Her eyes wandered up to his. The eyes she once thought were the kindest in the world were now the most unforgiving.

His eyes softened as he looked at her. He kneeled down so that he was her height as he did many times when she a child, the only difference this time was that he did not open his arms for a hug knowing she would rush into them as she did when she was younger.

She eyed him carefully as he reached his hand across and attempted to brush her cheek with the back of his hand, as his skin made contact with hers, she flinched away. He quickly drew away from her face but grabbed onto her hands and pulled her up with him so that they were both standing.

He attempted to brush her cheek again and this time she let him. She still eyed him carefully not letting her eyes leave his.

"What do you want with me?" She asked him.

He ignored her question. "I always knew you'd grow up to be a beautiful woman."

With that she moved away from him to stand in the other side of the room.

"What do you not like compliments?" he asked his smirk back on his face. She didn't answer him only looked off at the side.

After a moment when Klaus had had enough and was going to move towards her again when her words stopped him.

"I always thought you were this king man who with one step into my life made it all better." She looked at him. "Turns out you're just another monster for me to run away from."

He stared at her. His eyes showed hurt but she did nothing to try and make him feel better only looked away again and crossed her arms in front of her chest.

Then Stefan came out and they all moved to some warehouse where Klaus was keeping his family. They quickly got on the road after Stefan showed Klaus that he would keep his word by killing some girl. With that they were on the road to where, neither Stefan nor Thalia knew.
