Hey guys I wanted to tell you that I won't be updating for a while because my exams are coming up and I really ought to study, so I'm afraid you'll have to wait until after the 13th of June (seeing as that is my last exam.) I'll try to see if I can maybe post some little one shots between Thalia and Klaus, just some shorts that won't mess with the story. But I won't be posting them on this fanfic I'll make another, so you better watch out for it.
Any way I hope you enjoy this chap and the best of luck to any others with exams at the moment.
Please review.
Ordinary People
Thalia lay in her bed that night staring up at the ceiling. She was in her pyjamas, which were some loose shorts and an even looser shirt.
She thought about Klaus and all the guilt filled her up again, even though she knew they were not together she still couldn't help but feel the guilt washing over her, then she thought of Klaus, he was a monster, but she liked him, maybe a bit too much, she knew she had deep feelings for him but she just couldn't bring herself to admit that she was falling in love with him.
But he was a hybrid, who would kill anyone in his way and she wondered if he would kill her if she stood in his way. She wanted to believe he wouldn't but she wasn't too sure, she only really knew him as the guy who took care of her as a child but now that she's seen a whole new side to him, she doesn't know what he would do to get what he wants.
The more she thought about it the harder it was for her to believe he could ever truly love her, he was a monster, he said it so himself and he was bound to kill people over and over.
Just as her thoughts turned darker her phone rang and she answered it without looking at the caller id.
"Hello?" she grumbled out.
Well aren't you full of sunshine today?
Klaus! "Oh hey." She immediately sat up at the sound of his voice.
I just wanted to make sure you were alright; you haven't been answering my calls or texts.
"Oh... Sorry, I guess I got distracted." After she saw Luke she kind of ignored her phone until now, completely forgetting Klaus.
I gathered, anyway I was wondering how everything is going, everything still in one piece?
She couldn't help but smile at his worried voice, her earlier thoughts disappearing from her mind, all that mattered now was his soft voice through the speaker, she calmly lay back down. "Yeah, everything still together."
She could hear him chuckle over the phone. She eyes slowly closed at the sound of his voice.
"I miss you." She muttered.
I miss you too.
"How's it going there?" She asked, blinking heavily and slowly.
Everything's fine, the new hybrids seem to be doing ok, hey Thalia you still there? He stopped talking when he heard her soft snores over the phone, he chuckled as quietly as he could so not to wake her up. Goodnight Thalia, see you soon.
That night she slept peacefully no dreams or nightmares arrived and she woke up from the best sleep she had gotten since she got here.
When she finished getting dressed her phone rang, it was Elena.
"Hello."
Hey, Alaric said he and Damon found something, come meet me at mine and we can head there together.
"K, on my way." Thalia quickly grabbed her keys and made her way outside where she mounted her motorcycle. (I know I wrote she had a car but I think that she would probably ride a motorcycle and not a car.) She put on her helmet and made her way to the Gilbert house. She didn't have to get off and knock on the door as Elena must have heard the motor and was already making her way down the path.
Thalia got off and lifted the seat to get out a spare helmet and gave it to Elena who put it on quickly and sat behind Thalia.
"We got to go to the old Lockwood Cellar" she said, wrapping her arms around the older girl's waist. Elena gave Thalia directions and soon they were both underground following Alaric.
Thalia was walking in front of Elena through the dark cellar.
"So, the Lockwood's really have no idea that these tunnels are underneath their property?" Elena asked from behind the line, shining her flash light around to properly look at the place.
"Careful where you shine that thing. Bats hate the light." Alaric warned her and carried on walking forward, with Thalia behind him keeping her own torch as low as she could while still being able to see what was in front of her.
"Wait, what?" As Elena asked this, Damon sneaked up behind her and whispered in her ear.
Elena gasps, "Ah! God, Damon!"
"Scaredy-cat."
"Just ignore him. That's what I do." Alaric offered.
Elena turned to Damon, "So, you really can't get in?"
"No. Seems even the ancient Lockwoods were anti-vampire."
"What do you mean, ancient?" Elena asked, Thalia not knowing either what they were doing there inched towards Damon to find out. But he only gestured forward and walked past the girls.
"See for yourself."
They all walk forward, further into the tunnel, they near a cave and an invisible barrier stops Damon from moving with them.
"Well, this is as far as I get to go." Damon steps to the side and lets the other walk past him. They look up at the walls and see all the different drawings and writing.
"What is all this?" Elena asked.
"Well, as far as I can tell, it's a story. In simple, archaeological terms, it's a really, really old story." He points his light at the wall, where a couple of crescent shapes were drawn. "That right there, is the moon cycle." He points at another drawing of something that had sharp looking teeth. "A man, a wolf."
"A werewolf." Elena said.
"Yeah, it's the "Lockwood Diaries: Pictionary-Style."" Damon added from the sidelines.
"I don't understand. I thought the Lockwoods came here with the Original Founders in the 1860s." Elena looked back at Alaric as Thalia looked at the rest of the wall.
"I don't know. Maybe the Lockwoods did, but according to this wall, these werewolves have been here a lot longer than that." Alaric moved his flash light across the wall.
"How long?" She asked.
"Long. It gets better..." Damon started but Thalia interrupted him.
Her light was pointing to another part of the wall. "Are these Norse Runes?" she asked.
Alaric stood by her, his light also on that section. "Yes, they're names. They're not native. They're written in Runic, a Viking script." He explained the last part to Elena figuring Thalia already knew.
"Vikings?" Elena asked.
Alaric pointed at a specific name."This name here, I translated it and it reads Niklaus."
"Klaus." Elena muttered. Thalia remembered the call last night and a small amount of pink spread across her cheeks.
"And Elijah...and Rebekah." Alaric rambled off.
"These are the names of the Original Family?"
"Carved into a cave that's been here since way before the founding of Mystic Falls. Or even the entire New World, for that matter."
"Okay, this has gotta be one of Klaus's fakes." Elena said.
"That's what I said." Damon added.
"That could be true, except the last name up here made us think otherwise."
"What's the name?" Elena asked.
"Mikael." Alaric announced, somewhat tiredly.
"Mikael... Mikael, as in, the vampire hunter who knows how to kill Klaus?" Unknown to Elena and Alaric Thalia's heart gave a bit of an uneven beat as Elena asked this, but Damon caught on and he started wondering if she would do anything to jeopardize their plans.
However he decided to push his thoughts away for the moment "Yep. I now like to call him, "Papa Original"."
They were in Alaric's apartment, Alaric was bent over his table, looking at the pictures he took in the cave along with Thalia as they tried to figure out the story, while Damon was helping Elena with her combat training.
"These images tell a story... to learn the story, you have to decipher these images." Alaric said as he looked through the pictures.
Damon disarms Elena, who tries to stake him, without effort "Sloppy!"
Elena grabs the stake, "Shut up! I'm new at this."
""Ghost of Christmas Past" Mason Lockwood" Elena was kicking Damon who merely caught her legs whenever they made close contact with him. "Set up the cave and lead us to a weapon that can kill Klaus." Once again Damon heard Thalia's uneven beat at that.
"Yeah, but doesn't Mikael have a weapon?" Elena asked as she tried to stab him again.
Damon caught her wrist. "Yes. Which probably means the wall will lead us to Mikael, who we have already found... and lost." He grabs the dagger out of her hands and twists her body in his arms and points it at her chest. "Bang! You're dead!" He says into her ear, his head than moved downwards as he pretended to bite her and she pushes him away.
"These images at the very least might tell us what that weapon is." Alaric said.
Elena, stepped towards the table. "Then all we have to do is find out what they mean."
"Fine! Fine! If I am being irritatingly optimistic like you two...how do you suppose we do that?" Damon said as all three turn towards him, he walks nearer to the table.
"Well, if the story is about the Original Family living here, then we go straight to the source!" Elena told them, she then picked up her stuff and made her way to the door, the older three already knew she was going to school.
"Elena." Thalia called. The girl turned towards her. "I could also try to help you if you'd like, with your training I mean."
The younger girl smiled, happy to have a chance to get to know the other, she was desperately trying to find a reason to spend time with Thalia, because if Stefan trusted her she should have the chance to as well.
"That'd be great Thalia." Elena waved them off and left the apartment.
Alaric and Thalia were still in his apartment placing post-it notes on some pictures, trying to fit them all together into a story.
"So, how's your magic spear?" Alaric asked, trying to make some light conversation as they worked.
Thalia smiled slightly, "It's fine, still in my pocket." She tapped her jacket pocket as she said this.
"If you don't mind me asking, where did you come across it, I mean I haven't heard of any witches capable of doing that."
She looked at him for a while, deciding whether it was okay to answer him. "I got it from my father. Well not directly but yeah..." she trailed off.
"Your father?" He asked.
"Well this might be a bit of a confusing question but, how much do you know about Greek gods?"
"Quite a bit, I am a history teacher."
"What if I told you all of it was true. All the monsters, spirits and gods?"
"I...Err...Well."
"You can see why I'm not so fond of talking about my family."
"Yeah." As Alaric said this Elena walked through the door.
"I've got this, Damon. If we can figure out a way to kill Klaus, Stefan will be free of his compulsion. So... how does he look?" She was clearly on the phone to Damon, asking about Stefan who was still in the old jail.
"He'll have to get over it. Call me later. She hangs up and turns to the other two. "Rebekah will come around."
"You're sure about that? I mean a thousand year old vampire, I'm sure, has learned the art of patience." While he spoke Elena got a text and she looked down at her phone.
"She's a thousand year old vampire, who's joined the cheerleader squad... There is a whole different set of rules that play here, Ric. I got this." She holds up her phone to show the two her text.
There's a knock at Alaric's door and he turns his head toward the sound while Thalia keeps her head down.
"Hey there!" She heard Bonnie say.
"Bonnie! Come on in!" Alaric said.
"Got your message." She closed the door behind her.
"Yeah, great! Uh, I'm sorry the place is such a mess. I'm obsessed..."
"You have no idea." Thalia said from her little corner. She didn't look up at the man so she didn't see the eye roll from him.
Bonnie holds up Elena's necklace. "I brought you the necklace that wouldn't die."
"Ahh, that's great." He looks at Bonnie who looked unhappy "...you okay?" At the question Thalia brought her head up and looked at the girl.
"Been better..."
"Listen, Jeremy is an idiot. And I know this with certainty, because I was once a Jeremy. Trust me, we'll learn...Eventually..." He says quietly. He then held up one of the photos Thalia was looking at. "So, I've been staring at this image all day, wondering why it looked so familiar." He then held up the necklace next to the picture. "I was right." He shows both girls the picture and necklace.
"It's the same design." Bonnie says.
"So, your grandmother said this necklace belonged to the witch that put the hybrid curse on Klaus, right? Well, this symbol is repeated all across the wall. I've been trying to figure out what it meant." He grabbed his pen and started scribbling down something. "And now I know..." he sticks the post-it note and shows it to the girls who both read the word 'witch'.
Elena, Thalia Bonnie and Alaric were back in the cave and Alaric was explaining what they had found out. "We, uh, filled in what we could." He points at different pictures with post-it notes on them. "A Vampire, werewolf, slaughter, mayhem, etc."
Elena points at one of the pictures. "That's the white oak tree that was used in the spell to create the vampires... which means that was when they burned down the tree, destroying the only way that they could be killed."
"Ok. so tree equals weapon, sort of. We already knew that. What we are not sure about is this," He pointed is light at another spot on the wall. "We've got the witch symbol, and what looks like a bleeding heart. Upside down figures usually signified death, of some kind."
"Mikael killed the witch by ripping out her heart. But... why is that one connected to the witch's death?"
"We don't know. We haven't gotten that far." Bonnie said. But Thalia's head was already on it, she recognised both drawings, one meaning vampire, the other meaning werewolf, Klaus killed his mother. Elena had already told them what Rebekah told her, so she knew this was it, Klaus killed his own mother.
"Oh my god... Rebekah doesn't know the real story." Elena says.
