Our Town

It was a couple of days after Thalia and Klaus got together and unfortunately Thalia was back at the Salvatore's packing up her bag, much to Klaus's misfortune.

"Are you sure you have to go?" He asked from behind her. His tall frame towered over her petit one. He had his arms wrapped around her waist as she folded her clothes into her suitcase.

"Yes Klaus." She replied and stopped folding the clothes so that she could turn in his arms. "But only for a short while, don't worry I'll be back." She wrapped her arms around his neck and leaned up on her tips toes to kiss him. "I just have to go see my friends, I miss them and I don't want them to worry about me and they've probably heard about the hybrids so I should probably go and explain that to them."

He nodded his head slightly, wrapping his arms around her tighter than before, one of his hands moved up to her face and cupped her cheek, which she snuggled into.

"You truly are beautiful."

Thalia blushed at his words, he had said that a lot ever since she proclaimed her feelings towards him but was still not used to the words. She had been called pretty but never beautiful and when he said those words. She laid her head on his chest.

"You better go, before Stefan or Damon realise you're here." Her voice was a little muffled because of his shirt.

He leaned back and looked at her before leaning down to kiss her forehead. "I'll miss you."

"I'll miss you too."

It had been about a week since Thalia had left to Long Island, and she came back earlier than she meant to when she got a phone call from Elena who was in tears. Klaus had tried to kill Jeremy.

She was told that Klaus was building a house in Mystic Falls and that was the first place she went to in search of the hybrid.

When she got there, she saw Stefan there cutting the head clean from one of Klaus's hybrids. Her head bounced on the floor. She was standing behind Stefan so Klaus hadn't noticed her, but she could barely see his face, he was glaring at Stefan.

"Well, one down. You may want to send the rest of them away before it gets messy, again." She heard Stefan say. He turned to walk out and both he and Klaus noticed her at the same time. With a smile Stefan said, "It's good to see you again, Thalia."

She didn't look at him; she kept her scowl towards Klaus.

After Stefan had left, Klaus made his way to Thalia. "Thalia." He tried to wrap his arms around her, but this time she was quicker. She slapped him.

"How could you put Jeremy's life in danger?" she bellowed, a couple of heads turned their way but Thalia quickly gave them a look and they all snapped their heads back to their work.

"You don't understand Thalia; you don't know what happened..." Klaus started.

"Oh, I don't know what happened? I know that you compelled Jeremy to step in front of an oncoming car." She stopped for a second to let that sink in. "How could you do that? Elena already barely has anyone. Wasn't it enough when you killed her aunt?"

"I thought I could leave for a little while to go visit some friends and everything would be okay but no, apparently I can't leave you alone for a second without you trying to kill someone."

"It's in my nature Thalia, I can't stop who I am." Klaus was now shouting too.

Thalia brought her voice down to just above a whisper, which just made a shiver go down the spine of everyone in close proximity of the raven haired girl. Thalia was already scary when she shouted, but when she was angry and calm was a side of her that no one wanted to witness hybrid or not, everyone still thought she was an extremely scary girl. "You can't stop yourself from killing innocent people?"

She didn't let him answer; she turned and left to go find Elena before she went to school. She hadn't seen her yet since getting back. Klaus said nothing as he watched her leaving. He let her go, he knew she was beyond furious and she needed to cool of before speaking to him again.

Thalia got back to Elena's house just as the girl was getting ready to leave.

"Oh hey Thalia, it's great to see you again." She greeted.

"Hey, Elena, is Jeremy alright?"

"Yeah." The girls started walking down to Elena's car. "He's ok; I got Damon to compel him to leave for a while. She added the last bit in a hushed whisper. Thalia then noticed the bag of balloons coming out of Elena's school bag.

"Whose birthday is it?" the shorter girl asked.

"Caroline's." Answered Elena, "We're gonna decorate her locker." She then heard her phone ring inside her pocket. She took it out and read the text. "Change of plans Caroline's ditched, we're gonna surprise her at her place instead. Want to come?"

"Oh I don't know, me and Caroline aren't that close."

"It's okay, she'll like the gesture, she loves her birthday, plus there'll be cake."

"Well alright then, for the cake." Thalia laughed slightly as did Elena.

Bonnie, Elena, Thalia and Matt were hiding behind a wall at Caroline's when she walked through the door. They all jump out as soon as she steps in holding balloons and wearing party hats, while shout surprise and Thalia blew on a party blower as they did.

"Happy birthday!" Matt said to her.

"What are you guys doing here?" Caroline asks with wide eyes.

"Well you blew off school and missed our work of birthday art, so..." Elena says, removing her tiara off her head and placing it on Caroline's as the blonde neared them.

"Change into warmer clothes, we are going to the Falls. S'mores, camp fire." Bonnie said.

"Cake! Like when we were little." Elena said with a big smile on her face.

"Except for the tequila!" Matt sing-songs. Causing the others to laugh.

"Thanks, guys. Really, I'm just not feeling my birthday this year."

"I'm sorry, what? You've already claimed your birthday as everyone's favourite day of the year." Bonnie said with a slight chuckle in between.

"Yeah, and now, it's just a reminder that technically, I'm dead. Look, I didn't even like 17. And the only point to being 17 is to get to 18. It's a filler year; I'm stuck in a filler year."

"You're not stuck, Caroline." Elena shook her head.

"Yeah I am, but it's okay. You know, it's all good, I'll be fine. But I just need some time to wallow in it."

"You I'm gonna tell you a story." Thalia started. "When I was 15 I became part of a group of girls who never aged as long as we didn't fall in love or fraternize with the opposite gender. Now which is worse 15 or 17?" Thalia asked with a slight smile, causing the others to laugh with her.

"Weren't you a tree as well?" Elena asked.

"That was before."

"Ok now I really want to hear more about you Thalia." Matt said.

"Well first, I think I have another idea for Caroline."

They were now at the Salvatore crypt, walking through the rigid doors.

"This is creepy, even for us." Bonnie said.

"No, Caroline was right..." she put the cake down on one of the alters. "Technically, she's dead. Sorry. But you don't need a birthday, you need a funeral. You need to say goodbye to your old life, so that you can move on with your new one."

"We are still having cake though, right?" Thalia asked.

"Yes Thalia." Elena answered with a chuckle.

"Okay." She waits a second. "Here lies Caroline Forbes—"

Elena continued. "-cheerleader, Miss Mystic Falls, third grade hopscotch champion..." she sticks candles to the cake with every word she spoke.

"...friend, daughter, overachiever..." Bonnie continued.

"...Mean girl, sometimes, no offense." Matt finished.

"Ah, none taken."

"And a pretty cool person." Thalia added at the end.

"She was 17, and she had a really good life. So rest in peace, so that she can move forward. That's what you really need. What we all really need. Amen, or cheers or whatever. Bonnie?"

Bonnie lit the candles using her magic.

"Nice! Okay, make a wish." She held the cake out to Caroline who closed her eyes for a second before blowing the candles.

about an hour had gone past and they were all eating cake, seating in a circle while Caroline stood off to the side. Matt took the bottle of tequila from who to then have it taken from him by Elena.

"Ah-ah. I need it more than you do, trust me. Caroline, what are you doing?"

Caroline stopped texting and tried to act normal, which wasn't very helpful as they all saw her hide her phone in her hands. "What? Nothing."

"Okay, you're a bad sober liar; you're an even worse drunk liar." Elena said.

"I might have texted Tyler."

"Caroline..." Elena started.

"What? I'm delicate."

"Give her a break! You can't control what everyone does all the time." Bonnie said. Thalia watched the ordeal happen while still eating her cake.

"Wow."

"Ouch, Bon." Matt muttered while moving away from her.

"Sorry, I know it's Caroline birthday, funeral or whatever but, I just feel it's really wrong that you compelled Jeremy to leave town."

"I'm doing it to protect him, Bonnie. I want to give him a chance to have a quiet normal life."

He should be able to choose how he wants to live it, you're taking his choices away."

"Bonnie, you can't tell him."

"Why? Are you gonna compel me not to?"

Thalia's eyes darted back and forth between the girls as she still brought her hand up to eat more cake.

"You know, you guys are ruining a perfect funeral." Matt said, now sitting beside Thalia, who nodded in agreement.

"I'm sorry. I'm just gonna go sleep it off or something. Happy birthday." She then left the group and walked out the cemetery.

It had been a while since Bonnie left and they were laughing at some story Thalia was telling them. Caroline's head rested on Elena's lap.

"So then because we were so sleep deprived us three burst out laughing while Zoe still stood there, without a clue about what was going on."

They all stopped laughing as they heard the door creak and turned their heads to see Tyler entering the crypt. Matt stood up as he did so.

"Sorry, I didn't mean to crash the party."

"So, don't." Thalia said from her place on the ground. Something she probably wouldn't have said if the other three hadn't gotten her to drink a couple of gulps of tequila.

"Well, you've got cake on your face."

She blinked at him before saying anything. "Do I look pretty?" she asked while puckering her lips causing Elena to let out a small giggle.

Caroline quickly stood up. "No, it's-it's okay." She then turned to Tyler. "Hi."

"Can I talk to you for a sec? It's kind of important."

Caroline let out a sigh before following him out into the woods.

The girls turn to Matt. "Are you okay?" Elena asked while Thalia wiped the cake from around her mouth.

He took the bottle from Elena and took a swig. "Yeah, I want her to be happy, you know?" he took another swig. "It's what I want for all of you guys, in the middle of this crazy life you got stuck living."

"Is that how you see it? That we're stuck?"

"I'd say it's attached itself to you all pretty tight, yeah."

"Bonnie is right, you know, I have no business messing in Jeremy's head. I just don't know what else to do. He is in danger here. I can't lose anyone else that I love."

"Well this got sad real fast." Thalia said while standing up to get another piece of cake.

"So Thalia, have you never really been drunk?" Matt asked.

"Nope." She said popping the 'p'.

"How old are you?" He asked, "If you don't mind me asking."

"19." She sat back down in between the two raising the fork to her mouth and eating a piece of the cake.

"So this is your first time drinking alcohol?" Elena asked.

Thalia nodded her head at them, chewing on her cake.

"Well I think that you deserve a bit more tequila." Matt said bringing the bottle up to her face. She smiled slightly before taking a big gulp.

The three were out in the woods now, looking for Caroline.

"Caroline!" Matt shouted.

"Great, we've been abandoned. Okay, we're going on a search party; I don't trust that she won't get back together with him." They were all carrying flashlights, looking for the blonde.

"Caroline!" Matt shouts again.

"Come on, Caroline we don't have any more drinks!" Elena shouted. "Or cake" Thalia added, which resulted in Matt nudging her side with his elbow. "Matt's being haunted by the Fell ghosts." She playfully nudges his side while laughing, and he nudges her back. He turns back around to keep on walking when something pushed him against the wall of the crypt, as well as Thalia.

They wake up to hear Caroline's whimpers not too far away from them. Thalia gets up first and rushes to Caroline. She has a gash on her neck and was bleeding a lot, the veins around the injury were popping out and grey.

"Tyler bit me." She whimpered in pain.

"Ok, let me get Matt and then we'll get you home." Thalia rushed back to Matt and shook him awake. They quickly grabbed a hold of Caroline and drove her home. Matt in the front with Thalia in the back with Caroline, her head was on Thalia's lap while Thalia tried to keep Caroline's hair from getting stained by the blood.

Matt got them to Caroline's home. Matt opened the back door and picked up Caroline while Thalia dashed to the door, beating as loudly as she could, as Matt jogged behind her still carrying Caroline.

"Sheriff Forbes!" Matt shouted. She rushed to the door and let them in, Thalia stood to the side and let Matt in first who walked straight to Caroline's bedroom.

"What happened?" Liz asked.

"Tyler bit her." Matt said, still walking to her bedroom.

"Oh my god, sweetheart." She said while following them. "Be careful." She said to Matt. "Oh, honey. Caroline, honey, can you hear me?" Matt lay her in her bed and Liz knelt in front of her.

"I'm sorry, Mom." Caroline cried.

"She keeps hallucinating or something, I don't know. No one's picking up their phone."

"It's alright, sweetheart." Liz brushes back Caroline's hair.

"I'll call Klaus. He can cure her" Thalia said while walking away and getting her phone out.

She quickly dialled out his number and waited for him to answer, he picked up almost as soon as she called him.

Thalia, thank you so much for...

She didn't let him finish. "Tyler bit Caroline." She said quickly. "Get down here and cure her. And don't think I don't know that you put him up to this." She hung up before he could say anything and walked back to Caroline's room.

Soon they heard a knock at the door and Matt opened it to see Klaus.

"Thalia called, she told me what happened."

"You made him do this to her. He would have never done something like this."

"I'm here to help, Matt. My blood will heal her. Please, ask the Sheriff to invite me inside."

"I know how this game works. You want something in return." Liz said.

"Just your support." Klaus said.

Liz considered the option but before she could say anything Thalia walked forward.

"We don't have time for this." Before anyone could ask what she's doing she grabbed Klaus's hand brought it up to her mouth and bit into his wrist, breaking the skin and letting the blood into her mouth, sucking it in before dropping his wrist and walking back to Caroline's room before anyone had the chance to speak, they stared at her wide-eyed as she walked away.

Caroline looks at her strangely as Thalia approaches her, Thalia helps Caroline sit up slightly as she was too weak to move by herself, opened Caroline's mouth and pressed her mouth against Caroline's, pushing Klaus's blood into Caroline's mouth.

Once finished Caroline swallowed the blood and Thalia stood back wiping the blood away from her mouth.

"Sorry for kissing you but it was necessary." Thalia apologised.

"You're a terrible kisser." Caroline said.

"Hey I just saved your life."

Matt and Liz stood at the door frame watching the two girls.

"Caroline, sweetheart. Do you feel better?" Liz asked, moving to Caroline's side and stroking her hand.

"Yes mommy." She hugged her mom and looked up at Thalia, who had a slight pink stain around her mouth from the blood. "Thank you, Thalia." She mumbled.

It was well into the night when Thalia got a text from Klaus asking her to meet him at the town square. She came out in the dark and sat on the bench where he had found her before she had left Mystic Falls.

"Thank you for meeting me." He said as he sat down.

She looked at him from the corner of her eye. He looked down at the ground, his elbows rested on his legs. "I'm sorry for biting you." She mumbled looking at him. He turned his head to her, a small smile on his face.

"It's alright, I understand why you did it, though I was most definitely not expecting it."

"To be fair neither was I." Thalia shrugged. Klaus chuckled with her. Looking into her eyes.

"The hybrids are away from you guys now." He told her.

"I heard." She nodded.

There was a thick silence between the two. "I truly am sorry about both Caroline and Jeremy."

"They're both fine now, just don't do it again."

Klaus stared into her eyes. "I love you."

"I know. I love you too."
